Hi,
I recently purchased this android 10.25 octacore 4gb ram headunit replacement from ebay for a w176 A-Class 2013: [link removed] icebox auto 10.25 W176
And it didnt come with any instructions or model number. Its the version with an additional android video box aswell as 10.25 monitor screen. Fortunately I figured out how to install without instructions and managed to get everything working. I wanted to know if anyone knew how to do the following:
1. Identify the model.
2. Change the way the device launches into android (currently i have only figured out how to do this by holding down the nav button)
3. Command control the android unit via the stock controls
4. Compatible Rom etc that i could potentially use(possibly rooted?)
I can provide pictures etc. Thanks in advance!
Ps, i will offer an incentive via PayPal to anyone who can help as I'm eager to sort this correctly!
Regards

You can't change it. I have a glc, also want to change the launcher, but it doesn't allow me.
Changing the Rom will make you loose all the settings of Mercedes that go trough your screen.
I suppose you don't want that ?

I had some issues with the ADB commands for preparing my rooted Nook Color for on-device app install (primarily due to microcrap's 64-bit Vista) so I found a very easy method.
In the Market, there's an app called "Sqlite Editor" from the folks who make "Root Explorer" - it's about $3.07 US$ but I bought it anyway.
With this [AFTER A BACKUP!] I was able to directly edit the settings.db (sub category SECURE) and change the following:
'install_non_market_apps' from the default value of 0 to 1 and following a SAVE and REBOOT I can now install directly from my SD Card.
While I was doing this, I find a large number of additional entries including (are you ready for this???) bluetooth_on!
Dare I do this???
I also posted this in Mobileread's excellent Nook Color Forum and I was thinking that may we should also acknowledge them as a great forum for our beloved Nooks!

LOL...If only it were this easy.
I had no issue with installing apps from the sd card after rooting/installing mkt and gapps.
Depends on How You Rooted..
I'm not certain but some rooting methods have market/gapps built-in, some don't. I used Autonooter (after upgrading to 1.01) and market & Gmail just appeared - I never had to install anything else.
If you used Autonooter then you wouldn't have to do anything to be able to install non market apps. Maybe just toggle the setting in Nook Tools if anything.

Its NOT that simple, its been turned on in the kernel & custom ones built for it with nothing.
If you see the "salting nook" posts so much as been done trying to get it to work, most expect something ground breaking to come from actually looking at the pins on the chip it self an connection through the MoBo.
Amd sold faulty quad cores as triples so it could be that the chip/Mobo cant do it. Could be a easy hardware mod but TBH so much deep thought an attempts have been seen in IRC i dont see a "virtual fix" anytime soon.
But that said im an idiot so could be 475% wrong
Yeah, I tried toggling Nook Color Tools per the instructions - never seemed to work for me. Anyway, it appears to be just a one-shot adjustment any way it's done (at least till we get FroYo) so I'm happy.
Merry XMAS everyone

sqlite not working for me
Purchased Sqlite, when trying to install, exits without loading apps. Any suggestions? Rooted with older booker and then re-rooted with pre 1.01 autonooker. Thanks. -
I have a kernel and u-boot that enables the bluetooth portion of the module and sets up an rfkill device. hciattach will detect it as a TI Bluetooth module and will load one of the TI bluetooth firmware scripts, but then complains about a missing socket or something. It sounds like a software error more than anything that might be wrong with the hardware.
What this means is that the Bluetooth part of the WiFi module isn't just left disconnected and the link to the CPU is working. But we don't know if the antenna is set up to share between wifi and Bluetooth or if the hardware is otherwise missing something that would keep it from working.
If you have experience with getting TI WiLink Bluetooth working in Android or Linux, or know someone who does, PM me or join us on Freenode channel #nookie. We're really close!
Hi Guys,
I have a car multimedia that came with my car, the brand is "Premier" - the problem is that it's a sticker brand, meaning this brand doesn't really exist.
The Multimedia is locked - I don't have GApps, I have a browser and ES File Explorer but I don't wanna flash anything since I don't really know which brand or which ROM I actually need.
This is the information under General >> About:
Processor Type: QuadCore-R16 16G
Android Version: 4.4.4
MCU Version: 5/3/19-11-10-453101-170320
System Version: 20170327_4.5.10
DVD Version: 2.13.15-860mc-160106
I have "Development tools" (not sure of the exact name, the one that you hit 7 times on the build number) but When I try to access it I'm being prompt for a password that I have no clue what it is.
No need to say that the importer of the system is not willing to provide the password.
I also like to mention that I have an issue when streaming music from my iPhone (Apple Music) to the Multimedia via Bluetooth.
I keep hearing a horrible distortion sound, Anyone encountered that and knows how to fix it?
Can you guys please advise?
If this is the wrong thread please point me to the correct one.
Hi,
So I wanted to give you a quick update, I talked to the company who imported this brand and I managed to get google play on it.
Since I'm not an android guy for a long time now, I wonder how can I stream music via AirPlay without the use of a wifi since I still don't have a dongle and the regular Bluetooth music streaming has a bad distortion. According to the support of this brand it happens on all of the Chinese multimedia android devices Due to songs in high bitrate. I tried to maybe airplay music from my iPhone to the android multimedia but couldn't find an app to work properly, anyone knows any airplay solution that doesn't need to be working when using wifi?

I'm a newb to this head unit stuff but know flashing android better than my girlfriend. There was a link I found with codes on it and I have a feeling the on I didn't screenshot is the one you may need. like [email protected]
try:
126
518
m123456
*#hct#root# - that ones allowing adb root through usb so twrp and back it up or however youd like
If you can adb pull evvverypartiotion config/all files aka make a back up I would reflash mcu.img and find whats applicable to you;
ht**tp**:/***/huifei.fs-fileserver.de/content/ *********** firmware/KK%204.4.4%20Quadcore%20/********BN%204.4.4/1024x600/ (delete the asterisks)
I'm not really sure how flashing goes. Maybe imaging 4.4.4 system.img being itself and mcu.img being vendor.img.. But that brings me back to my personal concern.. Does it need to be updated? Id suggest generic twrp
Hi,
I have searched on the internet but I can't find any good info about android auto.
First I don't understand how it works. I have seen that you need android auto on your phone in order to communicate with your car device but what is running on the car device? Is a different type of operating system?
Can I add an application developed for Android on Android Auto?

AA consists of 2 parts -
AA application running on the phone
AA client on say a car headunit (could also be another android phone or an android tablet) that mirrors the AA phone display
AA can be run self hosted on a phone, then you don't need the second part.
If you want to have a fixed display (client/server setup) in the car & you don't already have a car headunit supporting AA, you can install an app such as HUR- https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ndroid-4-1-headunit-reloaded-android-t3432348 on the headunit/tablet. There's a trial version that you can download to try.
Hi kk131
Thank you for your replay.
So if is running on my phone this means that all my phone application will be available on my car console?

As the purpose of AA is to enable phone use during driving, it provides limited access with a simplified display :
Google assistant - so you can have voice interaction
Phone
Navigation - waze/google maps
Music apps - google play music, spotify (depends what you have installed on your phone)
Great info.
I am asking this because I have an application of podcast on google play and I would like to be available on AA and I am trying to find out how can I do that.
Do you know any relevant info on the web that can clarify me? I am guessing that there are some constraints if we speak of automotive
Install AA on your phone., run it, see if the app is shown in the menu. If it isn't you can go into AA developer mode and enable 'unknown sources' and test again. The thread I referenced above covers getting in AA developer mode.
If that test is successful, then go further and install the client on your car console.
Great, I will try it and come back with some answers.
Thank you for your time
Hello again,
I manage to complete all my tests and all was ok. I have installed a few applications and one custom application and all worked ok.
I have one more question for you if you can help me of course.
Do you know a tutorial or something from where I can start with Android auto? I have seen that there are not tow application (one for Android and one for Android auto ) is the same app but for Auto version are fewer scenes.
If you can give me a hint here it will be just great.
Thank you.

It would be helpful to know what hardware you have in your car.
I'm not an expert, I use a Nexus 7 tablet for the car display with headunit reload (HUR).

After setting it up and trying it for a few days I looked around online and I don't see much specifically about this device and if it can be modified or accessed in unconventional ways. can we root it? I would love to be able to cast to it youtube etc. HDMI out anyone? Has anyone else tinkered with it yet? The '1G+8G' marking on the box seems to suggest it has a 1GB of flash presuming to be for the android things OS and another 8GB of flash for apps or media or caches?

The price was pretty low, $50CAD at best buy, I cant wait to see what people can do to hack it. Other smart displays seem to have USB/ADB/Fastboot connections, I havnt found one on this device yet.
I too would like to see some custom stuff on this cool little clock.
Yessss! It would be nice!
Open smartclock
Hi,
Does anyone know how to open this smartclock thanks.
Regards
Bob
We haven't hacked any google assistant devices yet that I know off, in fact, I dont think we even hacked android things yet. I am sure there is somebody that is trying to hack android things. Btw, youtube can be watched on the clock, by going to something like the weather page > taping weather.com > going to the menu > download app, clicking on the download on the app store logo, going to the menu, support, go to apple support youtube channel, taping the YouTube icon. It's only in 480p, I tried it, I would rather watch on my phone or tablet, also the video will stop and the clock will go back to home if you wait to long without touching the screen or wake up the google assistant. Other than that. Playback is smooth.

I plugged in an android device to the clock, and it came up with some message, I dont remember what itsaid, it was either for adb debugging or transferring files over usb. I think it was transfering files over usb. The usb port does allow data transfer. Plugging in a USB mouse will make a mouse show up and can move for example.
It probably isn't much but you can go to ip.of.smart.clock:8008/setup/eureka_info in a web browser to view the basic info of the device
Home Assistant
It could be great to have some custom home assistant displayed on smart clock screen instead of clock
Apparently it's possible to plug in a keyboard and/or mouse to it via the USB port on the back (a cursor will appear).
Just got one of these myself today. Best Buy had em for 40 bucks. Quite the awesome little thing. I'm really surprised I can't find much for it.
I'll see if maybe I can buy a second one to purposely "break" (just in case), and see if I can get anything working on it. The little screen is good quality and has great sound. Would be cool for a mini emulation station of some kind
Update: Realized mine doesn't have the usb-c port under the rubber feet like other's have stated here its supposed to. Really don't wanna tear into the carpeting around it. I have the exact same model as first post
Plugging in a usb keyboard works for typing
update 2: navigated my way to youtube and tried downloading an apk from a direct link, downloads don't work period
update 3: can not get device recognized by a pc via plugging in USB port on the back to a USB-C port on my laptop, also tried USB-A to USB-A, no results
Update 4 lol: Unlocked the bootloader, had to have device manager search online for the driver, but it found it and installed it just fine. to unlock the bootloader, simply type
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock

Hello KaptinBoxxi,
How did you manage to unlock the bootloader, did you use ADB on computer via USB? or directly via a pluged in keyboard?
I'm a bit new to all of those types of hack but I'm very interested in getting into that since this device is small, cheap, good quality and could be a perfect smart display if there was any abilities to extend the frontend to better use cases.
Thanks

Fastboot via computer. Although, if this is the first device you're picking up, I'd recommend it not be. No one's really done much with cracking/hacking Android Things (the version of Android that runs on this) as it isn't a full version of android. Its heavily stripped down. Grab an old phone that has a ton of support for modding/hacking but isn't exactly the easiest and do that. I'd recommend a Sprint variant of the HTC One M7 if you want a real challenge. I had to find my own custom method to S-OFF the device, unlock the bootloader, then ROM it and root it as no tutorials worked that were currently up and I wasn't willing to pay to unlock it. If that sounds a little too high end for now, get something like an unlock Galaxy S4 or Verizon Galaxy S5 and hope its a Toshiba model so you can unlock the bootloader

Thank you for the recommendation. I actually meant that I want to control the music from the screen, though. : )
Installing Spotify should probably be possible if adb is working. But, I would still need to figure out some way to launch Spotify without opening the app over adb every time.
