I am now spending about 2-3 years in North America.
I learned that my device is on EGY CSC. I don't know how on earth Egypt got here, I first booted the phone out of a sealed box without sim, could that be it?
Anyhow, it's the multi-csc OXM sw, and provider info shows EGY//ILO,EGY/EGY while I have 2 sims in the device. The data is on AT&T Mexico.
I am currently roaming on Rogers in Canada and AT&T in USA. While on Rogers, I did a speediest, and got 1mbps down, 0.6 up. I took the sim out, and placed it in a unlocked Pixel 2, and I got 25mbps down. Same Rogers network, a few seconds apart.
Could, changing the CSC of my device help improve network speed? If so, which CSC should I choose. The roaming network, or home network? If home network, which CSC code is AT&T Mexico using... I. read IUS, but I don't believe that is an option.
Thanks for any help.
the SM-N960F does not appear to have any IUS CSC version for it. Anyone in Mexico using a N960F here can confirm which CSC they are on?
Hay un mexicano aquí que podría confirmar su versión?
Flash a Rogers CSC ( use the note 9 W) CSC thats what I did and to reboot use a patch boot image.
Don't forget in this way your Knox is bye-bye

If I can use the Roger's CSC from a N960W, can I use the IUS CSC of the N9600? That's what is being used in Mexico, wouldn't this provide the best tuning for my carrier? Or using Roger's (providing I roam on Roger's frequently enough) is still better?
Much appreciated.

OK, so long story short. I have a client who bought 4 tabs. 2 UK GT-P1000 and 2 US ATT. He was told by another service provider that the GT-P1000's would not work in the states, so he bought 2 ATT Tabs. He lives in states part time and in Argentina the rest of the time. So he wanted me to make the ATT tabs have the phone (which he had seen on the UK GT-p1000) functionality, which I did using rotohammer's original method with Odin. I flashed the Russian and then Euro versions and then added the bell Modem. My client only had an ATT sim card with data only, so he dumped his tab contract (and paid the fees) and picked up a cheap blackberry with phone and data plan. We used this sim in the tab and he was very happy here in the states. He has now returned to Argentina and is not able to use the tab using the ATT Sim card. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Is the bell modem the wrong one? Is there a certain provider that he would be better using? Any help appreciated.
Can he use a Movistar sim? They are throughout South America. They are the same as at&t, so the bell modem would be a good bet.
That was my recomendation to his IT guy in Argentina yesterday. Anybody else know any more info. I was actually thinking the movistar tab was way cooler than the ATT with it's sat tv capability.
I agree. Movistar is good down there and you can add credits easily. That tab is very expensive!

So I'm writing a tutorial using RotoHammers Thread on unlocking
LINKhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323 - How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab
I am having him install titanium, astro and a custom gcript.apk that will allow the tech to install the custom apk using titanium and then have him back up the tab completely using clockworkmod (rotos custom, pre installe here in states) then some scripts in gscript that will run the /efs backup and the another to run rotohammers adb commands from that thread. (I hope that this all works)
The I have to have him pull the APN settings ( anybody know where these are so I can write a script of adb commands to back them up) and have him test the tab and correct the apn settings if they are wrong. Still have to find the Movistar APN settings for Argentina as well.
Thanks.
You are exactly right. In wireless settings make sure roaming is off or you will burn through your credits.
Here is your apn:
www.celularis.com/tips/configuration-gprs-y-mms-para-movistar-argentina.php
dude, you should get that tab unlocked and use an Argentinian SIM when he's there and then when he comes back to the states he can plug in the ATT SIM, problem solved.
Check the date - your advise is 3 months too late! Thanks anyway.
so after 6+ hours of searching for an answer i'm giving up and asking. i've found many tutorials and guides on how to use a t-mobile tab with voice calls and edge data but not 3g. now i dont know if im crazy or just not understanding this right but baseband determines if it will allow the phone to pick up certain signals including phone calls and data such as edge or 3g. therefore by upgrading the baseband on my tab i should be able to use these services, together or however I choose, depending on if the modem.bin i flashed works in my area. please someone tell me if i'm wrong, because i'm not 100% sure on all of this.
anyways, I have 2 galaxy tabs. 1 purchased in Hong Kong and the other purchased in mainland China (but this is a branded t-mobile tab in black). The info is as follows for firmware:
HK Tab: PDA: P1000XWJMK | PHONE: P1000ZTJK1 | CSC: P1000OXAJME
T-Mob: PDA: P1000XWJMK | PHONE: I9000UGJK3 | CSC: P10000XAJME
Both ROMS on latest Overcome firmware/kernel, rooted, and all 4 settings in lock status(*#7465625#) are set to OFF.
SO onto the issue... I'm using China Unicom (CHN-CUGSM) for the Hong Kong Tab with working HSDPA and voice calls in mainland China. When I insert this SIM card into the T-Mobile tab all get is EDGE/Voice calling. Now. from my understanding, all I need is the Asian/HK modem.bin(P1000ZTJK1) flashed onto the T-Mobile tab and it should work on the China Unicom network, because again from what I understand it is the carriers in the states that are blocking the use of 3g with voice calling. I could totally be wrong here and please correct me if I am wrong. Lol for all I know it could be as simple as differences in hardware.
Another question that I have is: I have a US AT&T 3g sim in a blackberry. It currently receives 3g data/voice calling on roaming. If I wanted to use this same service with the T-Mobile tab is it possible with a new modem such as the one I have on the Hong Kong tab? Also, if I decide to take this T-Mobile tab with the AT&T sim in it to the states do I have to switch modems?
Sorry for the ridiculously long post. I just havent found anything for a person hoping to use a T-Mobile tab in China regularly that is in plain English. Found many Chinese sites, but they use different terms for flashing and what not (ie they call it "brushing" i think).
(SQEAL)
SUMMARY of QUESTIONS for EASE of ACCESS, Lol
1) Will flashing a Hong Kong baseband(P1000ZTJK1/ZHJK1) to a T-Mobile tab allow access to 3g/voice service in Mainland China on China Unicom?
2) Will an AT&T 3g sim on Roaming (with 3g/voice currently working on a BB in roam) work in the T-Mobile tab IF said tab had the HK baseband? (With current baseband doesn't do HSDPA or 3G.) and again, on China Unicom...
3) Will using this T-Mobile tab in the states with the AT&T sim in it work in terms of voice/data (if so, what kind? EDGE only?)
4) Will I have to switch modem.bin when visiting the USA if using the AT&T sim in the T-Mobile tab?
So i managed to get everything working and just in case anybody is wondering here are the answers that I've found.
1) Will flashing a Hong Kong baseband(P1000ZTJK1/ZHJK1) to a T-Mobile tab allow access to 3g/voice service in Mainland China on China Unicom?
A) no. At least in my case. I got it so that both my hk tab and t mob tab were on the same firmware, baaeband, kernel, etc. And while my hk tab was 3g and voice call capable the t mob tab was only getting edge and voice.
2) Will an AT&T 3g sim on Roaming (with 3g/voice currently working on a BB in roam) work in the T-Mobile tab IF said tab had the HK baseband? (With current baseband doesn't do HSDPA or 3G.) and again, on China Unicom...
A) nope. Im guessing by this point the modem is only half the problem? Found a tutorial titled "Getting 3g and voice on a Tmobile Tab[Updated Nov 22,2010]" on xda and after following this guide the Tmobile tab is fully functional on China unicom with hsdpa and voice calling.
Sorry don't know answers for last 2 questions but Im guessing i will have to flash a new modem if tryin to use in the usa.

USA -> Malaysia -> South Africa - it worked a little in Malaysia, no service in SA
Hi everyone, I have a bit of a weird situation and I'm hoping someone with experience can point me in the right direction.
I bought a Note 8 (second hand) in Malaysia. It's a US snapdragon version:
When the phone boots it shows the XFINITY logo.
SM-N950U, Baseband Version: N950USQS5CRG9
Service provider SW ver. :

Android Security Patch Level:
August 1, 2018
The phone worked in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but not very well. I was using a Malaysian uMobile simcard. There were a few places where I could make calls.. but in most areas only the LTE worked.
I usually couldn't make or receive calls or get SMS or even use MMI codes (like *123# to check balance). I could browse the internet though.
I then traveled to Malacca (a smaller city in Malaysia) and I couldn't get the phone to work at all anywhere - not even LTE.
I'm now back home in South Africa and again, the phone doesn't work here at all. I've tried sims from all the providers here. Is there a firmware I can flash that would help? I've been reading this thread, and it's a little confusing to know which versions to flash and in what order. Before I attempt something, I just wanted to run this by you guys and make sure it's not in vain, and that this phone can be made to work in South Africa?
Only the cellular functions of the phone are not working. Wifi works fine. I also noticed some people mention that they have an airplaine mode icon, I do not. I have have a circle with a line through it, and a message "No Network Connection"
All I want is to be able to make phone calls and use internet - I don't need wifi-calling or anything carrier specific. The South African networks are Vodacom, CellC and MTN - I've previously bought phones from the USA that work here before.
I don't think my phone is carrier locked because it did work a little in Malaysia depending on where I was.
When I use a sim from a carrier here called MTN:
I fiddle with the Network Mode, switching between LTE/3G/2G and 3G/2G in Settings->Connections->Mobile Networks - I get a few bars of connection, but when I try to do anything it says "Not Registered on Network"
When I use a sim from a carrier here called Vodacom:
If I go to network operators and search networks - it shows all the south african networks - I select Vodacom (for this sim) - I get zero bars in the connection strength. In the notification pull down, it says "No Service - Selected network (Vodacom-SA) not available.
Thanks!
Update
I've attempted to flash an N950U1 firmware ( N950U1UEU5CRJ2 ) .. but still no cellular connectivity.
So far I've:
1. Did a factory reset.
2. Used Odin 3B(PatcheD) with the latest N950U1 XAA firmware from updato and used BL, AP, CP and CSC_OYM, and NOT HOME_CSC)
3. Odin Passed, and the phone rebooted and erased itself again.
4. When it booted it said "Your device will restart to configure features supported by the new sim card"
5. It rebooted, with a screen with a blue image of a sim card and 3 dots.. which stayed that way for a while, then again rebooted.
6. After rebooting again, I'm now in and everything works except the cellular stuff .. still No Service. The signal icon on top shows the empty triangle (no bars).
Hi.
My phone's model is SM-G780F. CSC was set to MID when I bought the device, but since it was taking so much to get OTA updates, I downloaded a Firmware and flashed it. My CSC changed to TUR and I can't see the 4g+ Icon (the one for 4.5g network) ever since. I don't know any other method to check If I'm connected to 4.5g network but I'm sure my carrier offers it where I live. Also, I noticed that there's a new opption to use 4.5g network in mobile network settings for me; so I tried to activate it and I saw no change in the situation.
I was thinking of changing CSC again (my phone is rooted), but I saw that after most of the available cscs, there's the word "single". Now, I'm not sure if it means that those countries have single-sim phones or it's safe to change. (E.G. BTU has the word single after it, but TUR doesn't).
I appreciate any help or suggestion. Thanks In advance
changing CSC just to get faster updates is not worth it. the countries who receive it first change all the time.
you will have to wait no more than 3 weeks longer than the first recipients unless there's an issue Samsung wants to address.
you can also see the downside in having the wrong frequency bands for where you are now.
switch back to your original CSC if you can, I've heard Sammy will be making it more difficult from now on (Android 11) to change, is it really worth the hassle ?
Hi everyone,
I've received my new SIM for a 130GB-per-month 5G data plan with Bouygues Telecom by way of MVNO NRJ Mobile, but the phone remains stuck on LTE.
I've tried to change network settings (going from GLOBAL to 5G/4G automatic, and back, to no avail.
I bought this phone new from Rakuten, and I understand its ROM was designed for US carriers (unlocked), but I thought that once properly set, I'd get access to the Bouygues Telecom 5G network anyway.
What am I missing here?

What you're missing is a phone that can handle international 5G bands. The U.S. version uses different 5G bands.
Hi, and thanks for the quick reply. Can I flash a different ROM on this phone, or is it that the 5G modem can't accomodate French 5G bands?

OK, thanks. I'll just have to decide if I simply cancel this new plan, or buy a new phone to go with it...
