As every Oneplus three user know , because android nougat has been released, and because there are some bugs in Oos 3.2.2/3.2.4,Oneplus decided to release Oos 3.5 "community build".
The Oos 3.5 fixes critical bugs such as :
-New and improved animations
-New, beautiful looking Chinese weather provider
-Yellow pages apk for everyone (they forgot to translate it in English)
-Improved dark mode (it is actually a dark grey now instead of black.Maybe dark grey is better for AMOLED screens than black..?)
-new Oneplus apps (dialer,calculator,etc)
-shelf is now transparent(you cannot put a image )
-new icon pack
-The new update follows the Oneplus philosophy
"We will keep it stock Android,we will only add a handful of useful features"
Need I say more ? install the latest Water version 3.5 and be happy !
So happy they fixed all those bugs!!!
Who needs GMail Push anyway...
Luckily they removed safe mode too! Less bloat.

I be honest it slowly feels like some themed out chinese ROMS like LeEco or something.
I wanted them to fix the camera too.
A better thing to do, SCRAP 3.5, just forget about it. Focus on Nougat, follow the existing design philosophy. Sure, update the stock OnePlus apps, but keeps the overall UI AOSP-like just like 3.2.4.
After this, work on themes as well. I'm so torn between stock OOS 3.2.4 (pocket mode. stability + better camera), or CM (more customization + themes).

It feels like a Chinese rom because it IS a Chinese rom.It is a modified Hydrogen os.They forgot to remove yellow pages Chinese app .(Also translations are choppy because of that)

And add to that the badly written translations, it strikes me as really odd that they seem to be almost ditching OOS 3.2.x and instead rehashing H2O OS instead.
I hope they keep both branches open with pretty much identical features across both and give users the choice of which one they want to flash.
The only thing I like so far from 3.5.0 is the weather app (which does not work on 3.2.4) and the shelf.

I'm pretty sure that you understand the difference between a beta Rom and a stable Rom. Oxygen 3.5 is in beta. It's normal to face many bugs.
So.. why complaining?
Moreover..if you don't like the "new stlyle".. just flash a Custom Rom and be happy.
It's should be the reason you bought OP3 : Savage Modding.

You don't get it.The stock rom of a phone should not have bugs .(cm has bugs and bad camera quality). They have bugs on Oxygen 3.2.2.Ok .I am willing to wait for the next 3.2.5 that will fix the bugs. But they decided to ignore the bugs and work on a Chinese rom.I am unhappy because they are moving from stock android (they promised to keep it stock).I don't really like the new shelf . Because of shelf, what comes next?removed app drawer?

I think people are complaining more down to the fact this is quite a departure from 3.2.4 in look and feel as well as some chinese applications in the beta, bad translations and it's a also a port of H2O OS and not a continuation of OOS 3.2.4.
Stock applications are slowly been replaced and where will it end?
True I agree with you that it's a beta and things can change dramatically between now and the final release but like others I am concerned with the path OnePlus are possibly taking and OOS will just become yet another themed OS with poor applications in place of the google counterparts.
I am hoping with the first OTA they will look at all the feedback and bug reports and put back in the stock apps, go back to the stock android look and concentrate on fixing bugs not adding a ton more features.
If the codebase of H2O/OOS is the same I don't care what it's based on as long as the stock look which I love carries on.
And lastly some people don't want to unlock and flash different roms they have come to OnePlus because it's stock by default without all the crap associated with carrier bloatware or value added apps on a Samsung or LG.
i actually like the file manager and the gallery now in 3.5.
better than the one in 3.2.x
just flashed it last night though..

It is awesome feeling when I think about timely and mannerly update. This was previously reserved with cyanogenmod and rarely any of OEM were ready to provide update. It gives much more pleasure that Oneplus not only provide updates but also take the feedback in consideration.
When we talk about updates, we expect something new, a new feature, a bug fix or UI improvement.
We wait for updates eagerly and as soon as the update released we first look for the thing what we want very much.
Oneplus is providing the stock android experience, but everything is not OK with stock android. Even Google needs periodic update to maintain the android os.
What we want much, is user interface. The UI of android are still dull as compared to ios. It is user interface which give nice look to any device. Most of the people are going to ios because they like the UI design which looks premium. I have observed that many of the Oneplus owner request for UI features like quick toggle, notification drawer, status bar etc. It is clear that Oneplus needs some theming options like CM theme engine or layers or any other, which will on the one hand not only maintained the stock experience but will also provide ever ready change in UI for them who needs. Even Samsung is being incorporating theming capabilities in their newer devices. Your opinion may differ, is it?
I'd like to concentrate on that OnePlus Room
Inviato dal mio ONEPLUS A3003 utilizzando Tapatalk
I want it to be as close to stock as possible.
Nougat ROM, close to stock with the minimal OOS customizations found on the original release
that being said, if going FULL STOCK makes updates come WAY FASTER i'd probably take that over the customizations (since I can achieve those myself via specific modding apps)

For me, its those small customizations in OOS which make all the difference. I had a race with a S7e owner on Friday where the task was unlocking the screen with a fingerprint and then putting the screen back to sleep 10 times. He was only on number 5 by the time I'd finished. Its like OP have looked at all the OEMs and CM, and cherry picked the best small tweaks to make things better. The cherry on the cake is that you have the option to turn them all off if you choose.
On my Galaxy Tab S2, I have to load an app to swap the buttons around which doesn't like to start on reboot, (even though its supposed to,) and apps to turn off the screen using an on screen button, kill the fingerprint reader for the next screen unlock. :crying:
Hello, I've been an Android user from a while and decided to upgrade from my Nexus 5 to the OnePlus 3T. The only thing I'm concerned is not having the Google Android version since I'm very fond of how good it is, but in October 31st, Nexus 5 will be 4 years older and although Google isn't still talking of stop working on the software side of it it is probably going to happen eventually.
With all that said, I'm trying to learn beforehand (my phone arrives in 10 days) if are there any lag problems, if people are using any specific ROMs that work better with it and anything that could be quality of life improvements that I could do once it arrives.
Thank you

The Nexus 5 is already discontinued when it comes to official software updates. It will only get security patches and even that won't be for long. (In fact it's latest factory image is from December 2016 so it might've fully stopped already.)
As for the Oneplus 3T, it's currently running the latest 7.1.1, latest security patch and the Oneplus skin (OxygenOS) is basically stock Android on steroids. I'm running the fully stock beta 4 version and the phone is extremely fast and smooth, battery is great. It's good to the point where I haven't even felt the need to unlock the bootloader and root yet. You definitely won't be disappointed in your purchase.
I recently (last week) replaced my 2 year old Nexus 6 with a OnePlus 3T and had the same concerns as you. Would I enjoy another OEM's version of Android? I was even running a really bare bones Vanilla AOSP ROM by the end and loved it.
I don't regret changing at all thus far.
I'm on OxygenOS 4.1.1 with Franco Kernel and Magisk v12 and it's working beautifully! I figured I'm gonna run OOS for a while before seeing if there's any nice ROMs available. I've been looking around a little, but not many of the available ROMs seems worth it (I don't want CM, Lineage or anything pre-rooted).

Ah, that's so good to hear! This is exactly what I was expecting. Yeah, Nexus 5 had an extremely good run and until the beginning of this year I felt it was still so good as far apps go, but anything web related started being more and more painful. It is still a pretty good phone and I'll keep around for Android dev related things.
Now I'm pumped for the 13th.
Thanks

OOS is as close as you can get (factory OS) to "pure" Android unless you buy a Nexus or Pixel (and the latter will of course cost you). Many are calling the OP3T a spiritual successor of the Nexus series.
There are just a few OnePlus versions of apps (music player, file manager, weather) that many folks will find useless (you probably have your preferred options). And a OnePlus launcher.
But beyond that, there are a few modifications many will see as value added: The OnePlus camera app is really nice (great options in Manual mode). There are lots of settings which let you tweak and customize in (my opinion) really useful ways.

I flash Franco Kernel because I have great experiences with it from my Nexus 6. Ran without for a few days, but realised I missed it...
I install Magisk because I want root and for a few nice systemless modifications. Currently: changing screen density, debloating system apps and Viper4Android.

I see. I never used a launcher (except the Google Now, not sure if that is even considered a launcher itself, and hopefully it is a feature in every Android phone, not just Google ones), ideally, I think I would want to get rid of that, if possible. The File Manager might be helpful, although I use one I like, perhaps theirs is a good one. No biggie, though.

Google Now is a launcher (AKA home app). It's not pre-installed, but you can easily install it from the Play Store.
I don't think you can disable or uninstall the OnePlus launcher on a stock OP3T ("disable" is grayed out), but you certainly can with root (may want to freeze it before uninstalling, and make sure it doesn't break anything else). But I also doubt it would make any significant difference, compared to simply installing Google Now launcher, and making it the default home app.

Haven't used it much, it does the basic functions (move/copy files, looks like it can open archives like ZIP) but doesn't look like anything special. If you use one that has more features (particularly root browsing) you'll probably prefer what you already use.
Hello everyone!
I am planning on purchasing a Note 9 which has just come up on discount locally. I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a few questions I have : ):
- Does the battery life of the Note 9 diminish greatly within a few months of usage?
- Does the stock Samsung UI start to lag a lot within a few months of usage?
- Stock camera app good enough or will need to install Google Cam app? If so, How good is google camera app on the Note 9?
Thank you for your time.

Best way to charge is with a wireless charge pad overnight. That's a slow charge and very easy on the battery. By the end of my 12hr days of moderate talking/texting, the phone is at 80%, and then I use it all night (instead of tv) and it's at 50% when I go to bed. That's with auto brightness, the dark UI (night mode) and no added theme. Dark mode all the apps. It looks gorgeous. I've had it for about four months, and it's an amazing phone. No lag. VERY nice OS (Android 9 + OneUI). Camera app is excellent. Google Cam app would not be better. When you buy a Note9 new, do ALL the updates (Android 8 to 9 and all security patches) right away before installing any apps, and you will have a trouble-free system. Android 9 in most regions does not have call recording. A US unbranded Note9 is bloat-free and great for T-Mobile, because you still get wifi-calling and VoLTE, but for the other carriers, you lose those if you don't get their branded version. If you want to root your phone, you must buy an Exynos or dual-sim Snapdragon version. All US Note9 versions are bootloader-locked and will not root. Ain't happening. This is the first Android setup I've had where it's so good I don't need root (7 of my Androids are rooted and non-stock ROMmed). Note9 is better than Note10. The last great Samsung phone.

Don't go past Oreo Dave. There is more wrong past that than is immediately apparent. Most of the complaints at the play store about apps that used to work and don't anymore is based on not only Pie, but also play store updates that put you in iPhone prison. The apps at the Play Store had to be rewritten to uselessness to remain listed, which made apkpure.com my new friend to download previous versions of apps, and turn off Google Policy Updates at both the play store and my phone. Because I have the 960U, I had to flash to the US UNLOCKED U1 firmware and then disable updates in the configs by following these instructions. The forcing updates by US carriers and play store to strip functionality that protects you appears to be a US deep state driven thing because many nations won't put up with those restrictions and appears to be a U-model-only thing.
There's a lot of opinions and hyperbole about Pie and OneUI on Note9. I've been running it since day one on Note9, and I have zero app issues. I think most app issues are from updating from 8 to 9 after apps were installed. Those with upgrade issues have done a factory reset then reinstalled apps and watched all those issues go away. I like it much more than Android 8 + TouchWiz. Most of the justified dislike is around call recording. If you must have call recording, better disable updates and stay on old software otherwise update without worry, and enjoy continued security updates.
Had zero issues after update.
When I hear people complaining about such things I tend to believe that the problem is not with pie+one_ui but with the people.
Yes there are exceptions.

I would agree with that. Actually, any app other than a dialer that leverages your contacts and call history is hamstrung or no longer works. On Android 10, they purposely killed call recording altogether. Since most calls go VoLTE, the calling parties are the only ones deprived of a record of their calls. Everyone else in the chain keeps a copy.
Android established its market by being the open choice, and actually the only choice for non-Apple after Steve Balmer pulled the plug on the Windows Mobile/Pocket PC. Even rooting was a normal option without permanently disabling the capabilities of your device. The progression has been to force IOS limitations upon Android, with more an more access to your private information by phone makers and Google. As with LTE-A, It's time for a non-proprietary mobile operating system that is beholden to its users instead of companies and governments. Vendors can plug their Touchwiz or whatever into that.
As for CDMA, Qualcomm used it as a product name because it incorporates cdma as a technology. The only reason GSM didn't go with it is CDMA as a product name and technology is because it was owned by Qualcomm. GSM service was poor, expensive, and impractical in many areas until later when GSM went to cdma. The EU legislated against CDMA, and this affected their orbiting countries. Developed countries went with CDMA, including the US, Japan, South Korea, Russia, etc., and even countries in the EU bolted GSM for CDMA. The defining moment came at 4G time when Sprint gained control of Clearwire, the owner of the new 4G, Wi-MAX. This caused Verizon to bolt Wi-MAX. Their clout plus the emerging Cingular/ATT network caused Sprint to realize they couldn't pull this off and they also bolted. That enabled LTE to gain critical mass and LTE-A to become the IP of cellular networks. With the problem becoming usable cellular bandwidth, and with a usable de facto worldwide standard for wireless communication, the FCC and similar organizations could now force out the 3G and earlier technologies that were tying up bandwidth. Because CDMA is locked to the wireless network vendor and cannot be shared, it is logical for it to be the first on the chopping block. There are no longer any Wi-MAX phones, but Clearwire, who was and is many years ahead, has gone on to provide the wireless matrix for many of the largest cities around the world with user technologies at their perimeter, of which 5G is one. GSM's claim to fame has never been one of technical superiority, it has been openness and interoperability. However, the US did something similar when it developed the DARPANET/INTERNET by not allowing proprietary protocols and building out IP.
When I updated my S7 to Oreo, I liked the improvements over Nougat, but there were still a lot of things with the OS that needed tweaking, with frameworks like Exposed or Substratum. But with third-party options like that, the problem is diverging development, late bug-fixes, and generally dealing with a certain amount of brokenness. I think Android+Samsung OS has evolved well, to the point where PieOneUI is the first system that I don't mind not rooting or need to heavily tweak. Dark mode is a big part of that. I HATE WHITE APPS. I think Android 10 with OneUI is going to be quite good.
All that said, I agree with IT, and I don't like the GOOG having this much control. I do wish we had a much more open and community driven OS.

AM or PM? ruserious?
Now that you pointed it out, I might have to roll back to Oreo! Oh wait, I can look out the window.
To me, this OS feels like less is more. It's clean, it's laid out sensibly. (unbranded no carrier bloat + tmobile + Nova Prime also helps). There is a Note9 OneUI port for the S7, which has made my S7 almost perfect now.

Ahh the old look out the window comment. You live in Alaska you're ****ed so you need AM and PM. Also it's on phones for years until the notch trend rolled in and they axed it. If it's useless then why did so many people beg Samsung to bring it back during the Pie beta test?
Hello
I still use my note with last Oreo. Everything running fast and without problems.
I think that the best software android version, most stable and overall good is with which the device appears on the market. But with Note 9 is otherwise, so please help me in this .
Android 10 is a lot of better from stable 8.1?
If you still enjoy it...
For most people the newer the better.
Is it really that battery life is better in oreo? Maybe, as I remember easily could get 6hrs of sot but still that time it was new, so of course the battery performance was better.
I'm on 10 and have no problems at all. Can get 8h screen time on wifi with my usage. Bought phone in March this year brand new. The 512GB Exynos model.
Thanks for answers. I'am afraid after update worse photo quality, lower screen brightness, lower GSM network (A9 for me had lower signal GSM) and overall slower running.
This update is unfortunately "one way ticket".
But for me general advantages A10 is gestures and maybe safety (i very rarely install new applications and control access before install), newer interface but whether better?
This all depends on whether or not that you use mobile banking or financial apps on your Note 9. If you do then I would advise that you install the android 10 update onto your device to patch up the security flaws. Otherwise you leave your device opened to hackers to steal your personal financial data.
I don't use any banking and financial services on my Note 9. Only standard use- texting, making photos, Internet, phone calls.
So new interface ans gestures is worth update or maybay stay with sure 8.1 and still enjoy it?

Hi, @_GRIZZLY_
If you are happy using Oreo on your Note9, I would not update to Android 10.
I updated from Pie to Android 10 only because of security concerns - the 0-click vulnerability - after receiving a lot of "Likee" codes in Samsung Messages (freaked me out, lol).
Me not likee "Likee" codes, so after reading about Samsung Messages being updated in Android 10, I updated.
I also removed via adb the Samsung "honeyboard" keyboard, Sticker Center, and Keyboard Content Center. Giving AnySoftKeyboard (from F-droid) a spin instead of using Samsung keyboard.
In Android 10, the Samsung Keyboard "Honeyboard," Samsung Clock, and Samsung Gallery are integrated with other applications (Google Search, Google Translate, YouTube, FourSquare (location in Gallery), Spotify). Some folks may enjoy using integrated apps, though.
I'm still on Oreo and consistantly getting 7 to 8 hours of SOT. Plus One UI is just ad ridden.
Oreo SOT from 100% to 10% 8-9 hours.
Happy with Oreo Exynos model.
Thanks for answers. So conclusion is only one- I'am stay with Oreo. Maybe i will do factory reset after 9 months from last reset.
After 2 years look Oreo is little booring for me but looking more serious than OneUI. I use black theme made by samsung from theme store. Of course ths is only my opinion about look interface .
I have my N960N upgrade to One UI 2.1 and it has been running pretty well. Of course I use it for backing up my N950N, which is currently my daily driver. I will probably switch to my N960N. Once my N950N's battery
Oreo is great but life and especially Note 9 life is too short for using all the time only one version OS.
What with photo quality on the A10? Is better, worse, similar compare to Oreo?
No problems with led notification?

Well as you can see One UI is ad infested now and some of the edge panels are gone now.
