Screen Brightness outside - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

Anyone else find the screen a little too low for use outside? Even at full brightness, if there's a little sun outside, I find the screen a hard to see. I've come from an S8+ and the screen was exceptional so I may have been a little spoiled.
Also, from the other threads I've seen, autobrightness activating after a reboot is a "feature", not a bug? Is that correct?
Other than that, I can't find much to fault about the P30 pro (I'm not even that bothered it's unrootable atm).

Well i have the opposite experience Auto brightness seems to be always too bright for me, and i have to constantly dim the screen. In direct sunlight it's very well visible. I'm on 124, and have a feeling that Huawei nerfed native Android 9 adaptive brightness function that is supposed to learn how do we set brightness in different conditions, and just left simple auto brightness. We'll se it over time if it will start adapting, or maybe the update will fix it. But i have no complaints about max brightness, it's even too bright for my taste in a sunlight.

I find it very dim outside, like even if it's cloudy out. It's max brightness doesn't compare to the lcd my P10 pro had. I'm finding it hard to edit pictures on here in the day.

I agree and find the display hard to read outside. Could it be that different units have different maximum brightness?

Thanks, It's already enabled.
I just read that the Mate 30 has two display suppliers, "Samsung Display or BOE Technology" If this is true for the P30 Pro it could account for the difference in brightness. Expecting BOE Technology to be inferior.

According to this site the P30 Pro has LG and BOA made screens: https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-H...ures-AMOLED-displays-made-by-LG.418210.0.html

I don't have that feeling. Under sun it is ok

Lens flare

Well, it seems that not only the Pixel suffers from lens flare...
Today I tried my op3t camera for the first time in low light condition and... the flare is there.
I'm attaching a picture, you can clearly see the 5 spots on the left of the lamp.
Does it do the same to you? As far as I understand it's a common problem between cameras.
Any way to avoid, or at least reduce it?
Thanks

There are some camera apps (like DSLR) where you can change the ISO, most of the time when you change to a high ISO value the flare would be less seen

Just tried it and it works. The thing that bothers me is that everytime there is an artificial light there is a flare...
I'm not an expert here but I think a lot of phones exhibit this. My wife's s6 edge plus has weird light retractions in low light.

Yes. Most phones have it. It largely has to do with the lens attached to the phone. I've had more success on phones such as the Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra. Use such phones and go into manual mode. In all cases I was able to eliminate the lens flare. Too bad I had to switch to the 3T which is a better phone but poor shooter. Can't find a way to eliminate it there yet.
You captured a UFO! No way! Lol. Anyways my experience with low light conditions has been great. This is at a party. So clear I can zoom in to the musicians faces clearly absolutely 0 editing. With Snapseed I can lower the brightness of the lights overhead

How's your screen uniformity?

Hi, I recently bought a Nokia 8 and it's an amazing phone all round. Crazy fast and smooth and has great features.
One thing I noticed though is that the colour temperature at the bottom inch of the display seems a little more yellow/very slightly brighter than the rest of the display. So on a page with a light grey background for example, it's noticeable that the bottom of the screen seems slightly yellowy/green or maybe slightly lighter than the rest of the screen. It's not a huge difference but it's quite noticeable especially when browsing with Chrome or other apps that can show solid background colours.
How's your Nokia 8 display? Have you got the same characteristic where the bottom inch is very slightly "warmer" than the rest of the display? Any other issues. I'm trying to figure out if it's worth getting a replacement. Such a shame because otherwise the display is great (apart from being more on the blue side than I'd like).

Mine is quite alright. There's just a blotch at the very center of the screen that is a little brighter than the rest. But it sort of gets "framed" by the darker areas and I don't really notice it much at all. In fact this is one of the most uniform displays I've ever had.

Hi. I cannot see anything there on the screen - not one bit, regardless which background it is.

I can see it too but only in bright sunlight shining strait at the screen with a white background. Even then it's hard to see. I tried it under a bright UV light and other very bright lights and do not see it otherwise. If you check this video out at 8:50 it should explain why. It's the reflection from the bright sunlight reflecting through and then back from the screen. I don't see it as a defect, it's just the design of the fingerprint reader. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes visible all the time.
But while i was using Chrome in direct sunlight the shadow stayed throughout and it was very irritating.
Do check in direct sunlight

Visible Scanner
Here's what mine looks like...
Not just from light at the back but direct sunlight, and on other colours than white.
Hello,
i have same problem... any solution?
Maybe stick some gaffer tape over it to hide it?
I can see mine aswell.

Pinkish tint when tilting the phone?

Hello! I have noticed that my device is changing color when tilting the phone in different angles. It gets a slight pinkish/reddish tint and I wonder if everyone has this or if my screen is bad and if I should get the phone replaced? I took a video of it but it doesn't really show as much in the video as it does IRL. It's much more noticeable IRL. I can't add the video here due to XDA rules.
So, is this normal or should I get it replaced?
My s10 plus doesnt do this hmmm, do you run it on wqhd? See if that makes a difference if not I reccomend taking it back

It happens no matter the settings I use. Tried vivid turned to cool, tried to turn down the red color etc etc. It's only noticeable on a white/grey background. Like in the Gmail. I guess I'll try to get it replaced.

Seems like it's a common issue. Not sure if it's actually normal tho? A friend of mine has almost none of this issue on his. I also took a picture of it showing quite a lot of the issue.

Mine is much less pronounced and if i look the screen straight on is perfectly white
I can see green edges if I tilt the phone.

Screen uniformity issues

Hi, I've recently bought a S20 FE 5G. I noticed at night that my screen was brighter on the edges like a cheap LCD phone.
I could reproduce the issue using "Display Tester" app using Dark Grey color and 1% brightness, I was in a dark room.
There is a sort of light bleeding from the edges of the screen and the center of the screen is brighter than the other parts.
Any of you has encountered the same issue?

Actually, I think you are lucky. Your oled looks almost perfect to me. Compared to yours, mine is way worse - it has a brighter area and banding in the lower part of the screen. Disuniformity can be noticeable in dark gray image in low brightness in dark room. I've seen this in other oled panels (Galaxy and Pixel phones). There is no guarantee I can get a better replacement, so I don't go that route unless display is annoyingly low quality.

I think this is related to implementation of how they increase the brightness, when you are using it longer on low brightness the color will uniform.
Per checking on witrigs.com. The Replacement screen cost on S20 = $230 vs S20 FE = $148 vs S9 = $162. So the S20 FE screen is not high quality as S9+.
Since I have an s9+, this doesn't happen to my phone which is already 2 years and 9 months
I
Its an oled screen, should it should black where there is nothing being shown on the screen. Do you have edge apps enabled?
Also how did you get to the test screen, as I would like to test this on my SM-G781B
