Hey guys, I've searched endlessly online and can't seem to figure out what the problem is. It's not the "optimize battery settings", that's where most of the guides online start with. I've checked the data savings settings and from what I can find there is nothing wrong there either.
I keep android web messages and the whatsapp pc app open on my computer all day so I can coordinate with my guys at work.. but the pc apps keep getting disconnected. I have an odd feeling it has something to do with a wifi timeout, but I can't find any settings for it.
In order to get them to come back alive I have to unlock my phone and open either the whatsapp or android messages.
This is a very recent problem within the past week or two I would say. I don't have any app killing managers or anything like that installed either.
If anyone has any insight I'd greatly appreciate it - thank you!
I've the same problem and already tried to exclude WhatsApp from battery optimizations. I have raised the concern with the support team. I don't think it's related to Wifi connection as it gets connected as soon as WhatsApp is opened on phone. But I've never thought it this way so will try to troubleshoot more now and get back to you.
Hope someone else have a solution.

I'm using Note 9 and having the same issue for a long long time.
You may try to time how long it takes to lose connection - it should be very consistent at 30 minutes.

tried the same thing, adding whatsapp to the exclusion list, not useful.
Try these:
General Management -> Battery
Turn off "Battery life optimiser" & go to Advanced settings, turn off "App power monitor"
It works for me.
I have been facing these problem with my home-wifi and office-wifi. Everything is fine when connected to 4G, but I only have limited data usage. My device's problems started after upgrading of routers. There were other routers which gives perfectly timed notifications when connected. Have been trying to solve it by all the ways I could find on the internet. Finally, today I managed to solve the work-wifi issue temporarily with the adb command method. I cant confirm yet about my home-wifi.
I found the adb workaround in a samsung community forum. (Search in google: S9 delayed notification issue)
It is still a temporary solution and must repeat after reboot and need PC to do.
It requires setting phone to usb debug mode and connecting to it.
The adb command to send is.... adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
If you have never used adb before, the instructions are here https://www.xda-developers.com/quickly-install-adb/
Good luck.

Sounds like battery optimization is what's the problem. Is WhatsApp set to "optimized?

I tried turning off all battery optimisations at everywhere I could from inside the phone and even in performance mode too, notifications just wouldnt come in time. Now after turning deviceidle off through adb, notifications seem working even after battery optimising is turned back on.

Hi,
I have a problem with Whatsapp program. It works perfectly fine when it comes to sending messages, although I have a problem with staying connected. The messages are delayed (sometimes it's even over 30 minutes) and when I simply wanna unlock my phone and text someone, the person won't receive my message until I reconnect my mobile data (grey clock icon on the left of my message). I've already seen many instructions on the net, like reinstalling Whatsapp, rebooting my phone, checking if my sync works and all that, but none of them worked for me. It really starts to annoy me, but I like this program alot and I don't want to give up on it that fast. So is there any way to force Whatsapp to stay connected full-time ?
I'm using MiniCM-2.2.0 with latest nAa Kernel.
Regards
Bump, spent the whole night browsing the net for similliar topics and found nothing...

well maybe you shouldn't give up on whatsapp but the ROM instead. What i mean is, maybe something inside the ROM/kernel wasn't installed properly and you could try reinstalling ROM and/or kernel... I know it's a stupid solution but it saved me many times when i couldn't find the answer anymore

Thank you for your reply. I already had the problem on previous ROMs (I mainly used MiniCM). Maybe I'll give GingerDX a shot. I'll tell you how it went.

Did you leave the app in background? When you leave Whatsapp, dont click back button, try clicking home button?? Dont move app to SD if you did!

i belive that whatsapp is running in background by default, so as programs such as viber, hotmail, etc. but we all know that this can be checked under settings > applications > running applications
but i agree that moving whatsapp to SD could be the problem, although i had no problem when i moved it to SD
I didn't move it to SD card and I don't use any task killer. Process manager says it is running in the background. Still no idea how to fix it.
if it isn't because of moving to SD, and it is running in background, if it isn't because of ROM (you've said that you have used some ROMs before and that there was the same problem), if your data settings work normally (sync and stuff), if the problem persist on wifi and 3g and edge,...
it occurs to me that it can only be due to two things, maybe you installed cracked version of whatsapp due to 1-year-free expiration, or maybe something went wrong when you installed your current kernel
P.S. whatsapp is 70% of communication on my X8, and i understand you very well when you say that you won't give up on it so easily

I didn't crack anything, I'm still on trial. If I wanted to get another free year, I'd change my phone number I also reinstalled the kernel too.
EDIT: Now it works properly on WIFI only. Still disconnects after couple of minutes on 3G.
EDIT2: It seems like reinstalling GDX and Alfs finally worked for me. Thanks for all the help guys

It is only logical that Whatsapp won't implement itself right on your phone... This is all ridicoulos right know, because for as far as i know, you almost tried every solution possible, you've changed to other ROM, heck, you've even changed to other kernel and it still doesn't work.
You said it worked for a while, maybe some of the settings you've changed, and apps you've installed AFTER it was all working properly was interfering with your newly applied settings and/or installed apps

I've installed Advanced Task Killer to see if it's the problem with Whatsapp, but it didn't block me from receiving the messages or anything. I uninstalled ATK and like an hour later, the problem occured again. I'll reinstall the kernel and the ROM again and leave it with only Whatsapp installed for a day. If that doesn't work, I might just buy an Xperia Neo V :S
Maybe it's because I connect to another network instead of my providers one ? I have data roaming enabled and stuff and I connect to Plus instead of Play (even though Play says they allow such things). Could this cause the problem ?
Or Swype Beta maybe ? I'm running out of ideas...
I just found out that when Whatsapp's not showing the "last seen" date (not connected), when I enter any website in the browser and return to Whatsapp, it shows the "last seen" properly. But I still have no idea what can this be...

Wait, does it work normally when you are on wi-fi? try to test whatsapp when you are strictly on wifi (wich means that you turn off celluar data, data roaming and national roaming), so that we can definitly exclude the problem of wifi.
if the problem isn't in wifi, try to connect on your providers network (PLAY) instead of other network (PLUS), and see if the problem persists
if the probelm still persists i belive there is counterinterfering with some application...
i know that i'm offering too much possible solutions, but i think that this can only be solved by method of trying out every possibility

As from what I see for the last 30 minutes, it's working fine on WIFI. I also tried switching to Play and disabling the roamings, but it still kept disconnecting.
The apps I have installed:
- Barcode Scanner
- Battle.net Mobile Authenticator
- Dolphin Browser
- exDialer & exContacts
- GG (Polish messenger, but I doubt it causes any errors as I just installed it recently)
- GO SMS Pro
- Real Player
- Root Uninstaller Pro (I only uninstalled DSP Manager)
- Whatsapp obviously
- ColorNote
- Nexus ICS Minimal Analog Clock
That's pretty much everything I have. I didn't change anything in the settings of GingerDX itself. I'm really helpless here...
huh, nothing from that list shouldn't interfere with anything... maybe you should put back ATK and see what exactly happens with whatsapp when it disconnects from network
i'm really running out of ideas
It's pretty simple. It's got nothing to do with your ROM, kernel, 3G or WiFi - AFAIK. Rather, I think it's to some extent do to your connectivity. The app's refresh interval apparently varies. Seems worse when you have many long threads. Deleting a few threads seems to work from time to time. I however use another android device & I assure you the problem is in no way restricted to the X8

Hi,
Do you still have the problem of the messages getting delayed?
I have the same problem since three months now I think.
I have already tried everything you guys said here.
I have no problems what so ever on WI-FI but only on 3G.
I think it has something to do with Whatsapp, maybe even with our accounts in specific.
Did you ever fix this problem?
Because I am having it on my Samsung Nexus S.
I found that when I send a message, and I am running whatsapp in the background I still woulnd't recieve the messages.
So I hope you found the solution and could maybe share?

I'm experiencing problems with Gmail and whatsapp: whenever I'm on my home wifi the push does not work. But more problematic, sometimes it does work. Next to that when I go into whatsapp after a day of no messages they all arrive at once.
So I'm able to receive messages and Internet works, but the push services doesn't work most of the time! I'm not on stamina mode or any other battery app (BTW battery of my z1 is worse than my sp).
Does anyone have an idea how to find out if there's a culprit or what settings I've messed up?

Thanks for thinking with me, though that is not the case! Sync is on and it works perfectly on other wifi networks.
I can report a more peculiar fact: pinging google.com with Fing results in 100% packet loss, though pinging for example tweakers.net gives me an average of 40msec. Strangely I can brows to www.google.com in Chrome... It seems as though there's something very wrong with my Z1 because pinging Google.com with my Xperia SP does work!
Any news on this?
I'm experiencing the exact same problem. It has been around for at least a couple of months on my Nexus 4.
Most of the times I don't receive any push notifications. I need to open the app manually, wait a couple of seconds, and then all the new messages come in.
Here is what I tried so far:
- Notification settings for each app
- Reinstalled complete OS
- Background data is allowed
- Wifi policy is "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" -> Always
- I don't have any battery savings or task killer apps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2599417
I also tried this, and now I only have the OS and Whatsapp installed. But the problem persists.
I have the same problems since KitKat.
Sometimes I have to open the app to become the messages.
I had this problem with 681, then I done a full wipe and installed the 757 rom.
But i also have this problem....
So as it turns out, the problem only exists in my wifi at home.
When I'm at the university everything works fine.
I also noticed that facebook and instagram are very slow on my phone at home.
And only the apps, not the websites.
(this also has been around for a couple of months)
Having the same issue with my HTC M8. Guess I just have to find out what settings are causing this on my router.
Edit: Fixed it. My VPN's DNS servers were blocking push. Changing them back to googles DNS brought push back.
Actually, I was also facing the problem. I tried to get it solved by uninstalling all the recently downloaded apps, but it didn't work for me. And I couldn't uninstall all the apps.
Then I got the idea that it may be because of some setting on my router. I don't know much about router settings. So, I finally installed the VPN App Opera Max and it worked. It was a big relief for me.

Max does not change DNS settings so in theory it shouldn't fix this issue. It's possible that your issue was unrelated to this one.

My smartwatch LG G Watch R is connected throug bluetooth, but 9 out of 10 times teh ok google says its offline, with a slashed cloud.

Is my watch broken? Or can this be another problem?

I have had this a couple of times. It is the phone not connecting to the internet. I only have had it when on wifi. Switched wifi on phone off and on and that fixed it.
Does it happen on wifi and mobile data?
Hi. Yes it means that it's connected to the phone but the phone is not connected to the Internet.

Have the same problem; it's connected via bluetooth AND voice recognition works perfectly on the phone - any ideas anyone ?
Ash
seems to be when i receive a card, directly after it wont connect
Hi all, I've registered in order to ask exactly the same question.
Every time I use some voice recognition (i.e. give an order, answer to someone...) I got these "offline" errors same as OP.
"Offline" or "Can't reach Google at the moment" even if my phone is 100% with internet conectivity.
Anyone got this fixed? Any troubleshooting around it?
Thanks in advance !
I'd expect it would happen if you have a battery saver like Juice Defender on the phone that turns off data when the screen is off, or only switches it on every 15 mins etc. I'd turn off any battery saving stuff on the phone that could be doing anything like that and see if there's any improvement
At least I, I don't have any kind of battery saving application...
Add me to this list. Total garbage. I've had this watch for a few days and I'm very underwhelmed because of this problem.
I've experienced the same problem. Watch works when wifi is active but goes" offline" when only connected to data. I believe I've come across a solution. It's working for me.
Switch on background data for Google search.(on your phone) That worked for me.
Go to settings, data usage, scroll down to Google search (should be there on the list) and make sure background data isn't restricted.
Hope this helps. Good luck guys/girls.

Nope no joy for me with this...
No ticks in any app on that list..!
These constant disconnects are really getting to me now !
Strangely I'm on a note 3 too, albeit running the leaked lollipop rom, I take it your still on stock KitKat firmware ?
I was going to flash back to 4.4.3 stock to see if it cures it but if you're still on this I won't bother.

Looks like a very common problem across all android wear watches.
Even though I have a G Watch R, I've had a nosey around and according to the Moto 360 forums they are having the same issues so I would guess either lollipop on the watch has an issue or the latest android wear app.. rather than the watch itself if the 360 is doing the same.
And I don't think it did this when the Mrs first bought my watch and let me try it out prior to putting it away for xmas.
I had a good few hours playing with it to make sure it was working ok and what I wanted for my xmas present
This was before the updates to the app and watch firmware.
Had it been like it is now I think I would have sent it back...!
Hopefully it will get fixed after the New Year and everyone gets back to their jobs at Google..
Most of the functions still go to the "cloud" to work, so if you have any battery saving "features" enabled that restrict Google Play Service, then you'll likely to run into problems.
I've seen this problem also and it was caused by my flakey wifi connection or trying to make the watch do something while out of signal (like in an elevator). But that not the watch's fault...
You can try downloading the voice recognition offline, that could help, but it still neds internet to work properly. Uninstall all batery saving garbage (I have yet to see a working one) and try again.
Sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. I had that problem on 4.3 and upgraded to 4.4 thinking it would solve the issue. Changing bootloaders, roms, android versions didn't fix it until I reenabled background data.
I was rooted running jedi 4.3 rom when I got my g watch r. Switched to PAC ROM 4.4.4 and the prob was still there. It's all good now though. Good luck and hope you find a fix. I totally understand your frustration.

HI Guys,
I have exactly the same issue.
Very boring....
Stock rom from acer 4.4.2 no data restriction...
Any news or way to solve this ?
Thanks
Hi guys,
my Moto X 4.4.4 worked without issues for about a year, then I got a new phone from my company so it just lay around for a month (battery was kept in a good state through that time). Now I found a nice new use (and the right magnet for my custom SKIP) for it and decided to do a clean install on friday. So I flashed system, boot, data, pds and zwleiw kernel r12 and was surprised to see . . . nothing . . . when enabling WiFi. The same stuff has been flashed a couple of times in the past so there shouldn't be any issues, I thought of file corruption or something like that although everything else worked fine but md5sums of the 2 backups I have from those files matched. OK, next try now without custom kernel but still the same.
In the meantime I found out that some of the networks in my neighbourhood show up when I restart the phone while WiFi is enabled. If disabled once or I go out of range they won't show up again and it's definetly less networks then before, I got the one from my neighbour which is on 24/7 and pretty strong only once in the basement yesterday for a short time. I came up with the idea to manually add my connection which works fine, once enabled it connects in lightspeed and offers the same good bandwith as always, doesn't matter if WiFi was enabled when shutting down or disabled a dozen times before or whatever.
I already looked out for errors in logcat but couldn't see anything. If someone has a solution or thoughts on this, your help is very much appreciated.
OK, finally I solved the problem or better found a workaround. Posting this here just in case someone else has the same problem:
Issue:
When enabling/disabling WiFi through the on/off switch in the menu nothing shows up, in rare cases a few amount of networks available might show up but disabling/enabling WiFi once and they are most likely gone.
Solution/Workaround:
Get a Terminal Emulator (or use adb) and enable/disable WiFi by "svc wifi enable" or "svc wifi disable". Ridiculous but that's it.
Dont' know why this error occured but I'm sure it's software related. Only clue I have found in the various logs so far is this from the bugreport:
07-05 07:16:01.410 882 882 W PackageManager: Unknown permission com.motorola.permission.ACCESS_WIFI_AUTONOMOUS in package com.motorola.context

Hey all,
In case you don't know what WhatsApp Web is, basically you can use an existing WhatsApp account via browser on your pc, same as you would from your phone. This requires the phone internet connection to be alive.
So I've got my Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S for about 2 weeks and I noticed that when I'm using WhatsApp Web and my phone screen is locked, I keep getting 'Phone not connected' notification. It goes away when I unlock the phone.
It happens quite randomly though, not always, I can't seem to determine any regularity. This did not happen on my previous phone, I also tried with 2 different laptops and different networks and it still occurs. I've also disabled all battery saving possible, WhatsApp set up to no restrictions in the background.
Any idea on what else I can do to fix it?

For anyone finding this thread in the future - the vpn I was using was Blokada, there are many reports in the web about miui 12 killing the background process despite disabling all optimizations.
There's a response from Blokada team on reddit that suggest some other workarounds but I haven't tried them and can't confirm if they work
