Hello friends, I'm Berat, living in Istanbul, Turkey.
I tried to install TWRP on my device (HUAWEI P9) for root yesterday. I couldn't go further from the Fastboot - ADB method. Although I do one-to-one with source videos from Youtube, I have encountered error messages. The phone is running like stable but I have a few problems with my phone.
1- I want to complete root if i can do that.
2- OEM Unlocking is unclickable now and this is disable now, and of course it can't be changed. :victory:
3- I wanted to go back to the original version but it doesn't work either, OEM Unlocking is same; unclickable. I did enter the Fastboot menu and i saw the last status: Phone - Unlocked / FRP - Locked
How should I proceed? Which one is the easier, ROOT or the original version?
Thank you!

- Which stock Android do you have, Marshmallow, Nougat or Oreo
- Which TWRP are you flashing
EMUI versions are different, each has different organization of partitions (names and sizes, different encryption types).
You must use different port of TWRP for different version of stock Android.
Wrong TWRP may not work or may even cause a brick
For Nougat, instructions are in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=71244945
but a little bit newer version of TWRP for Nougat is in the post #1 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rom-huawei-p9-magicrainbow-v4-t3759292
---
For disabled and grayed out OEM Unlocking:
Boot to eRecovery (switch off, connect to charger, press and keep pressing Vol+, press Power).
From eRecovery, choose Download and Install latest firmware and recovery.
Upon installation (before booting to System), choose Factory reset and Clear Cache
You will need to enable again Developer options and OEM unlock (it should not be gray anymore).
If Bootloader will be locked, unlock with the same, previous code

I am from India and I exchanged my iPhone 4S for a Moto X 2014 just this evening wanting to try my hands on the Android experience.
I do not know what the seller did to this phone but I now have two issues. I tried to call the seller immediately after I noticed these problems when I came home but the number is switched off. Shame on him!
After Google'ing I found this forum for android support so I hope posting the problems here would give me some solution
Problem #1: Every time when I boot my phone, it has the warning screen which says "Warning unlocked bootloader".
Problem #2: The warning went off and landed me on the home screen. I connected to my WiFi and saw that there is a software update. I downloaded it and chose to install it. It kept rebooting for 4-5 times and then said "System Update - Failed".
Can anyone please be patient enough to give me step by step solution with download links to get my Moto X2 back in shape as how it was out of the box?
I googled a lot for the keywords "relock bootloader moto x 2014", "unroot moto x 2014" and plenty of links with different download links came up. I do not know which one to trust. I am not dumb and I can easily follow instructions. So, please anyone wanna help?
If the OTA (software update) is failing, maybe it's because the firmware you have was installed via custom recovery, not stock, or even the firmware is custom too, that's why you get a bootloop if you try to install the update.
Can you post a screenshot of your "About phone"? (Settings>About phone).

I fiddled around to find out how to get into the Fastboot mode... and I observed something weird there..
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
60.16 (sha-#some checksum number key with date 2015-04-02 and time#
CPU: MSM8974AC EA1.1
eMMC: 2048MB Samsung RV=07 PV=0B TY=57
Battery OK
Device i UNLOCKED. Status Code: 3
Software status: Official
I mean Seriously? I see the word Samsung in a Moto phone? I so regret buying from this seller... too much for a first Android phone :crying:
Well I also managed to Google more and installed the device drivers and the Fastboot software in my Windows PC.
Booted my device in fastboot mode and issues the below commands:
fastboot devices
#my device was shown#
fastboot oem lock
#told me to use the command with begin#
fastboot oem lock begin
#Said something like the image is ready#
Nothing happened then though. I powered on my device and I still see that warning. Still the software update is failing. :crying::crying::crying:
You don't need to unlock your bootloader, it is already unlocked, that's why the bootloader says that the "Device is unlocked", but also says your firmware is stock (Status software official).
If your firmware is stock, I don't know why its failing to apply the update, maybe is because your phone has a custom recovery. Try to enter into that option in the bootloader and see what happens.

I am not trying to unlock my bootloader. I am trying to restore it back to the "out of the box" state. I mean I want to lock it and I want it to be in the state how it usually is when bought from the store.
Ok... I google'd how to go into the recovery mode and found this link (teamandroid.com/2015/01/08/enter-recovery-mode-moto-x/).
I followed those steps:
1. Turn OFF your phone.
2. Press and hold the Volume Down button for 2-5 seconds. While holding the Volume Down button, press the Power Button for 1-2 seconds and release.
3. I used the Volume down key to highlight "Recovery" and clicked on the power button to select it.
4. My screen went off. I mean the light gone.
Then I had to press and hold the power on button, it booted my phone with that warning unlocked bootloader message.
What am I doing wrong?
UPDATE:
I did a fastboot, connected phone to PC and issued the below command from PC and get below error:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb reboot recovery
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device '(null)' not found
UPDATE 2:
I enabled the developers option (by tapping on the Build number multiple times)
So, I installed an app called MobileUncle Tools.
I then opened the app from my mobile and clicked on "Reboot into recover".
It says "Please root your Android first".
OK.. so looks like the phone is not rooted - which is good.
Only the bootloader is unlocked. All I need to figure out is - re-lock my bootloader and make the system update go through successfully.
Any help please?
You must unlock the Developer Options in your phone, and then activate the debugger mode to be able to use adb commands like "adb reboot recovery".
In the About phone menu in settings, press five times the option of "Build number", then the Developer options in settings will be available. Navigate to that menu and activate the Android debugging option, then you should be able to use adb from a command window in your PC.
EDIT: Also, you have to press the up volume button in the bootloader to choose an option, not the power button.
Having the bootloader unlocked doesn't affect system updates via OTA or anything if your firmware and recovery are stock. Your firmware seems to be stock, so there's no problem with it, but I'm not sure about your recovery.

I have one question for you:
What do you mean by "Your firmware seems to be stock, so there's no problem with it, but I'm not sure about your recovery".
My understanding is - you are saying my stock firmware is intact because it said Official in the fastboot screen. Right?
Ok... now back to the recovery check... I think I did it.
1. I went in the fastboot mode
2. Used volume down key to scroll down to Recovery option (2nd option)
3. Pressed Volume up key to select it
4. The phone rebooted (The white screen "warning unlocked bootloader" message was displayed this time too)
5. I saw a dead android symbol with the word "No command."
6. I pressed Power and Volume Up key. I saw the recovery screen I guess. There were many options - Wipe data, Wipe Cache, Install from SD, etc.
What do I need to check there?
EDIT:
Ok I noted this number from there:
Android system recovery <3e>
LPE23.32-25.1
followed by the options
reboot system now
apply update from sdcard
etc.
I think this is what has happened:
Google says "LPE23.32-25.1" is the Android 5.1 Lollipop update (v23.16.1, build LPE23.32-25.1)
However, the current Android version on my device "About" screen is 4.4.4
The OTA system update, my device telling me about is Android 5.0 Lollipop version: 22.21.19.en.EU (which is a lower version than my recovery's version)
My menu options look all white and after google'ing I realize that it has Android L's menu. Please see the screenshot i65.tinypic.com/14l4mmb.png
Could that be that reason? What can I do t rectify it?
1) You most likely will want to keep your bootloader unlocked, since it'll give you more freedom to deal with roms and flashing. It won't affect taking OTAs, in fact, I've just taken the 6.0 OTA and my bootloader is unlocked.
2) Don't worry about the Unlocked Bootloader Message. That can be fixed by flashing the correct logo.bin file.
3) If your device is in KitKat (4.4.4) but your bootloader is from Lollipop (5.0 or 5.1), DON'T TAKE THE OTA. There's one post here saying that it'll cause a hardbrick. Your solution will be to manually flash the correct firmware or use RSD Lite.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for clearing that point 1 and 2. That is a relief!
Point #3 - "Your solution will be to manually flash the correct firmware or use RSD Lite."
What do I flash? OTA 5.1 (because my bootloader is from 5.1) or OTA 22.21.19.en.EU (because that is what I see in my phone's Software Update Available screen.
Where do I download those OTA files?
How do I flash using RSDLite? Any guide?
Thank you!
UPDATE:
Found the guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231249
I only need to know what I version I need to flash AND where can I download it from. Please?
Best option is flashing the entire firmware of your phone variant using RSDLite. The firmware you're looking for (based on what Google says) is VICTARA_RETEU_XT1092_5.1_LPE23.32-25.3
Can you confirm this? If it's correct, then the firmware is in this folder (Firmwares 5.1 stagefright solved): https://mega.nz/#F!ow8igZRL!Z7vmN8GOpez2bVMYDvEKkg

My recovery screen showed LPE23.32-25.1
So there is just the last number change... the download link you gave is for the version ending with .3 where my recovery shows .1
That should not be a problem, or should it?

No it's not a problem. This will give you the latest version with the stagefright patch.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
It is .3 because it has the stagefright patch, the .1 version doesn't have that patch but both of them are basically the same, so there's no problem if you flash one or another.
Hi, after some attempts to upgrade to N, this is my situation:
The essential setting "enable OEM unlock" is Disabled, not selectable!!
So I'm blocked with any restore / twrp procedure...
What to do?
Here you can note this, is in "gray"
When I'm in fastboot the FRP is Lock (in green)
Someone already solved this?

I'm managing it via DC-phoenix... but I'm not totally out of troubles...
relock bootloader, only then you can enable oem unlock
tested on Mate 9
Hey!
It's a little tricky, but it worked for me. My device was OEM unlock, but FRP locked and with that I wasn't able to flash any of the files. Fastboot flashing and other normal flashing methods didn't work anymore and even tho DC phoenix says it flashes all the partition it still gives you bootloops afterwards.
Here's what I did:
1) Downloaded the original ROM file for the phone. I.e my phone: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1163/g104/v57187/f1/full/update.zip
2) By using DC phoenix to bypass the FRP lock and flash the TWRP recovery - https://forum.dc-unlocker.com/forum/modems-and-phones/huawei/155916-dc-phoenix , but this is a little tricky. When you select the ROM you want to flash, it starts to extract the files into the folder where DC phoenix is located. Here you want to overwrite the recovery.img with the file from TWRP, before it starts to flash the phone. This is what makes it possible to flash the old rom
3) Now boot up into TWRP and flash the original ROM file - The update.zip file!
This should get you bring you back to Android 6 and you can now disable FRP lock from the menu.
After this, I once again flashed the original firmware again, but with all the default contents for the DATA partition and using the normal flashing method - PWR key + VOL up and VOL down
If you want a more detailed version, please let me know...
Best regards,
Claus

Hit the 'Restore default settings' button at the bottom of the 'developer options' and it should disable OEM unlock, and you're free to switch it on/off now, at least that's what worked for me....YMMV
It also fixed my issue of USB Debugging disabling itself automatically.
the problem is the security settings...try disabling the pin/password/pattern/finger print totally then see if it is enabled then.

Hello everybody,
I have a P9 that mounted twrp and magisk.
Needing safetynet pass, i decided to make a factory reset of my phone and to try again the rooting. Unfortunately i discover that Huawei had blocked the bootloader generator of codes and now i have a phone, that is switching ON, but missing a lot of apps (calculator, clock, recording voice, etc...).
Also commands like *#*#2845679#*#* to try update from there not working (not appears the hidden menu)
I tried to restore (finding my exact firmware) via dload but everytime i get error at 5%. Via OTA update same errors.. Now i have the phone in Bootloader LOCKED.
Can someone helps me to install again the full stock firmware in my phone. Thank you so much

Before Factory resetting you had to uninstall Magisk and to flash stock Recovery...
You can't apply DLOAD to builds that are not FulOTA_MF_PV (and most new builds are no more PV)...
Since you prevoously had TWRP, you did have Bootloader unlocked - just use the same code (you had to save it when you obtained it from Huawei) and unlock the Bootloader again.
If you didn't save Bootloader, this time you will have to buy 4 Euros credit and get it from DC-unlocker

If you are on Nougat, when you buy the code and unlock Bootloader, then flash TWRP and use HWOTA method to recover stock ROM
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/rom-huawei-p9-magicrainbow-v4-t3759292/
If you never ever want to root, then you could try to save 4 Euros (not unlocking Bootlader) and
a) Settings / Advanced Settoings / Backup and Reset / Factory reset and accept to Wipe Inetrnal memory
b) Boot to EMUI Recovery (switch off, boot by pressing Vol+ and Pow) and choose Factory reset
But not sure would it be able completely restore stock ROM (apps you are missing).
Also c) Switch off, connect by USB to charger, boot by Vol+ and Power, it should boot to Huawei eRecovery. Then download (over WiFi) and reinstall stock.
But I will prefer getting Bootloader code and then using HWOTA.
When you have unlocked Bootloader, if things go wrong, you have more options to unbrick the phone if it becomes necessary

Did you use Proxy or DNS method in FF?
Using DNS Method, and downloading all three zips
Downgrading Huawei P Smart, Unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP
Hello! In this tutorial i will show how you can, downgrade you phone, installing TWRP + root!
Why you need downgrade? You need to downgrade security patch to read bootloader unlock code.
Lets start!
Note: This method will cost 4euro/dollar. You need buy 4 credits to DC unlocker. Just google for it.
Note 2: Backup your important files. You need reset your phone twice.
Note 3: Im not resposible if you success to brick your phone. I can always help, if you have Discord you can contact ScaryG#8540/B] or just ask in comments
Note 4: Twrp wont work with custom roms :/
Also if something missing from tutorial, please tell down. I will fix them as soon as possible:good:
Part 1. Downgrading
You need 16 GB SD card. First format it to extFat. Then download firmware from androidhost.ru, i used FIG-LX1 8.0.0.128A(C432) Download it. ( Links below! ) Then find dload folder from zip and extract into SD card (Remember to format SD Card into extFat)
Wait until it extracts. Now put your SD Card into your phone. Call *#*#2846579#*#*, locate for software upgrade and press SDCard Upgrade button. Now your phone is installing the update. Wait until installs. After install, you should get bootloop. In this part Press Volume UP + Power button, go to recovery and do factory reset. Now wait until boots. Go to settings -> about, and you should see version (128A). Boom! You have done downgrade...
Part 2. Unlocking Bootloader
Okay. Now get DC Unlocker ready, select auto detect Huawei Phones. Now go to again call to *#*#2846579#*#* and enable manufacturer mode. Try auto detect. It should detect your phone. Now simply, press the Unlock button. You should get your bootloader code, take it up. Enable developer options on your phone, go to USB Debugging and turn it on, also turn OEM Unlocking on. Then open cmd and type cd (same path as dc unlocker folder). Type adb devices It should start ADB daemon. Check your phone, you should get ADB trust popup, Allow it! Then check again adb devices, your device should be there. Now type adb reboot bootloader After it type: fastboot oem unlock (your key) ex. fastboot oem unlock 12345678. Check your phone, and press yes. Yeet! Your bootloader is now unlocked! Type fastboot reboot to reboot! Now goes kinda easy part!
Part 3. Installing TWRP
Download TWRP for Huawei P Smart. I put links below.
Move file to same folder as DC Unlocker and rename it to recovery.img
Anyways, your phone should be resetted again...
Go again enable developer options + enabling USB Debugging. Then again confirm...
Now do again adb reboot bootloader now type fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk recovery.img Now it should be flashed. Get into TWRP by pressing Power button and Volume up. Now you can root and flash zips!
Thats it, i hope it helped :good:

You need download the update, then extract all from zip. Not only update app.

Hi ! Hope you saved the unlock code somewhere
If yes, you can upgrade any way you want. Just redo 'fastboot oem unlock xxxxx' after successful upgrade. (Worked for me on EMUI 9.0.1.115)
It will unlock and wipe again..
As for me, this is the point I'm stuck at :
- latest EMUI FIG-LX1 9.0.1.120 (C432)
- bootloader unlocked
- can flash twrp, allow it to prevent being overriden, then flash Magisk 19.3 without error in the log.
After that, phone boots ok but Magisk Manager says 'not installed' and TWRP must be reflashed again.
Anyone can help further ? I've read about patched boot images to be flashed with fastboot. Are they just Magisk patched or some additional security level hacking required ?
Thanks XDA
Hi.
Just FYI, afters hours, I managed to finish the procedure and restore full root/magisk under latest EMUI 9.1.0.120 (E)
I had to use magisk uninstaller under TWRP, then reflashed Magisk 19.3
Now everything sticks :
- TWRP 3.2.0_1
- Root access
- Magisk is detected as installed and running
I mainly use "systemless hosts" with Adaway and it's OK.
Did not test any other module yet.

Just unlock bootloader with same way on emui 9.
Hey there! I've tried downgrading but i instantly get the message "Software install failed." before it even starts to install. Any ideas?
Can't downgrade from android 9.1, everytime said Software install failed
Thanks for the tutorial. I was able to install the older EMUI 8.0 version and unlock the bootloader of a FIG-LX1 (C432). Two tips:
I was able to use a uSD formatted in FAT32, I did not need to format it again using ExtFAT
When using the DC Huawei Bootloader Codes app from PlayStore to buy the credits, select Android 7 to get charged for just 4 credits, otherwise it will try to charge for a 3-day license
Make sure the phone has 8.0.0.128A or older, and DC Unlocker 2 recognizes the phone properly before buying anything (if it is not the correct version, it will tell you to use the test/probe point method)

I can only thank you hugely for this clear concise instruction. Well worth £3.41 to DC Unlocker developers! Finally an unlocked bootloader on my wifes phone. I'm a definite Xiaomi phone fan compared to the ridiculous hoops Huawei make people go thru with their locked down phones. Gave up with Samsung years back too for the same reason. Cheers
Hello , I have model FIG LX1 and I want to flash roms. I need to follow this guide ?
And basically I have to pay ? What the hell
Hi guys,
I have an old Huawei P9 phone that I installed TWRP on. I got a few ROMs from here and before I installed one of them, I cleaned out the whole phone and when I went to install the ROMs, they didn't work. It gives me errors during install. Right now, I have no OS on the phone. Please help. How do I fix it?
Thanks

Sorry but installation never goes by deleting all partitions from TWRP - did you read instructions for a particular custom ROM (must be ported to EMUI), what are the required preconditions (EMUI 4, 5 or 8) and what is the installation method - like flashing only System (by Fastboot) and making Factory reset from eRecovery or so.
By removing Vendor, OEMInfo, etc, you actually brick the device and you may have problems to recover IMEI
You didn't mention what was your stock firmware and which TWRP you installed - be careful, TWRP versions for EMUI 4, 5 or 8 are different (because of different partitions and encryptions) and using the wrong one will also lead to bricks (TWRP for P9 from TWRP site is AFAIK good only for EMUI 4)
To start with, boot to Fastboot and execute commands to try finding out what was your stock firmware:
Code:
fastboot oem get-bootinfo
PAUSE
fastboot oem get-product-model
PAUSE
fastboot oem get-build-number
PAUSE
fastboot oem oeminforead-SYSTEM_VERSION
PAUSE
fastboot getvar vendorcountry
To boot to Fastboot:
- switch off
- connect to charger
- press and keep presing Vol-
- boot
Does it show Phone (=Bootloader) and FRP locked (both green) or some/both unlocked (red)?
Boot to eRecovery (hopefully you didnt erase by TWRP):
- like booting to Fastboot but (instead of Vol-) press and keep pressing Vol+ while connected to charger.
Try (in that order):
- Install latest firmware and recovery, followed by Factory reset (both are options in eRecovery)
