I went to check out the Samsung Focus, man! samsung sure is coming strong. It has way more options for the camera than the hd7, like contrast, brightness, micro, quality, and more.. I hope we get updates for our cameras. I recently did a picture test with the hd2 vs. the hd7. Hd2 pics are way more clear and much more detailed. Hope an update can give the HD7 the same quality. Or of course wait for the custom roms to roll out..
i pray htc updates the camera. the pink issues to lack of settings just shows us that htc spent almost zero time with wp7. the lg and samsung phones have better picture stability and fewer camera woes. i just stopped using the hd7 camera, the pink issues and u having to stand perfectly still to take a picture just pissed me off. so i am with u waiting for that update if htc ever releases one. somehow i think samsung and lg are more serious about wp7 than htc is.
Video and photo
I wonder wether its the actual camera or software thats causing poor video and camera quality. I hate the autofocus it makes the video/photo blurry.
I hope they bring an update firmware where you can manually choose if you want autofocus or not. Also when taking a photo of someone while they are moving the picture comes all funny, the camera frame rate and response is to slow. If they can improve the camera through update this phone will be a one of the top phone in the market I think?....
I believe they could make the camera better cause I know when I first had my HD2 the camera had its issues and after I had changed the rom on it with the camera updates, wow the quality was much better. So yes I agree once this camera gets fixed, definitely the hd7 will be up there.
Also about the comparison with the Focus, yes the focus has the vibrant colors but I would nt trade it for my HD7. And why would I need to see my screen from an angle anyways??
In theory it should work on this device, right? I'm not sure if I installed it right but it doesn't seem to work yet for me. It's still in beta so that could change. This is the article for those that haven't seen it yet, https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported/
I'm stoked because my current Rom doesn't have hdr

Snap camera give me good result anyway !!
I just tried it with the latest RRemix and it works like a charm. Really impressed with the detail it gets out. I hated the pictures made with the normal Google camera, especially since I was traveling these days and it's either an overexposed sky, or underexposed building that were on the picture. Now I can have the best of both worlds.
Then require Nougat ROM version !!
Thx for report

Hi. Can you post some pics? Maybe comparing to default and snap camera if possible. Thanks!
Sure thing, here is an album for you of some quick pictures I took. The difference is quite big and you can see it immediately.

Thanks! Nice improvement. The camera is the only thing keeping me from making the Mi Mix my dd. That may change soon once I check it out. Anymore pics comparing to say, snap camera ap would be great. Thanks again!

Sure mate, here are more pictures. This time with Snap Camera samples too.

Since I don't use the Snap Camera all too much, this is a huge improvement in picture quality. Especially how it gets the harsh lighting and sky to be correct.

Based off those samples it seems like Snap strikes a good middle ground. I used FV-5 and Open Camera and low light pictures would always be even darker than they appeared. I tried the modded Google Camera with HDR+ and while it does take better photos in darker surroundings it almost goes a bit too far.
Sure, but I'm not into changing apps and whatnot and setting up manual modes to get the most of my shots. With this, I get a good picture. And all I had to do was point and shoot. Good enough for me. Now I'm actually compelled to take more pictures, since it takes good pictures now.
So this doesn't work with the original ROM? Mine crashes straight away.

Doesn't work on the latest EPIC (7.7.20 MIUI) either. I assume it doesn't work because MIUI 8/9 is still based on Android 7.0 and this app was extracted from 7.1.2 (the app is a mod of Camera version 4.4.012 which requires 7.1+).
Hey Guys,
I wondering if I am missing the trick to this... I am running LOS so camera API2 enabled via HAL3 enabled = 1
But when I try to install the apk, I get the error:
App not Installed
The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name.
Any ideas? I really want to try this!
Install apk, enable camera API2, reboot.
Work on latest Epic ROM.
Not working on stock chinese MIUI 8.5.3.0(MAHCNED)....application crashes

Based on photos it's very clear that Google hdr+ captures a lot of detail from the sky, and that's what I missed a lot on standart camera app...
Thanks for sharing!

I'm running latest epic everything is fine and nice with Google photo app but the main camera app Force to close when I try to take a photo, it does however take videos normally. Do you know any workaround?
EDITED
Nevermind, clearing cache and data solves the issue !
MAN, finally we got a great HDR!!!
I'm very happy, this HDR IS AWESOME
I've been using the modded Google camera for a couple of days now on RR 5.8.4. I like it a lot! I can hardly believe that the photos, especially with HDR+ on (instead of HDR+ auto) were from my Mix.
Mostly everything works. Panorama, Photo Sphere, Lens Blur all work. I did find a couple of issues, though. The worst one is that the video camera, both in normal and slow motion mode, crashes probably 9 times out of 10. It seems to work, but after the filming is over the app crashes when the video is saved. There is a file saved that is unreadable. This is the only issue that prevents me from making this app my default camera.
A minor issue, that's probably fixable with a build.prop change, is the selfie cam takes upside down photos.

Sad news...
Hi
With the latest Nokia Camera Pro or a suitable GCam installed, is it fair to say that the Nokia 8's camera performance is now reasonably acceptable, say, comparable to a good 2017 mid-range phone, and with usable OIS?
Or do you think it is still sub-par?
In addition to picture quality, practical issues like focusing speed and accuracy are also important considerations.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I have a GCam mod installed, Arnova's version and in my opinion the picture quality is very good, at least in good light conditions. In difficult light conditions the camera still has its limits. The Nokia Pro Camera app has not changed much here in my opinions though there is potential for future improvement. However, we have to see what Nokia can deliver. That being said, the picture quality in my opinion with a suitable GCam mod is more than sufficient and I have taken some very nice pictures with the phone already. I definitely do not think it is any worse than a 2017 mid ranger. I have not experienced issues with auto focus on the GCam mods.
I use the Nokia app almost exclusively now, it still has some silly problems but the image output is satisfactory for a phone snapper.
I used to use a mix of GCam and the nokia pro app. In good light the photos are really good.
The main issue i had was the phone never focused when i used to point it downwards (say for example taking a photo of my dog). i had to hold it facing up and wait for it to focus and then take the photo.
Hi
Has the Nokia 8's camera performance improved even further with the latest GCam CStark version, which seems to be the preferred mod on XDA? Would any user care to share their recent experience?
Thanks!
Hopeless in low light, ok in day light.
GCam helps a lot.
I use the latest Arnova version and it works very well, also in lowlight.
Wirh gcam very best , nice pics , nokia software is ****
Bought this phone yesterday. I'm new to Samsung. I had seen and read a lot of reviews and articles, and all were very positive about the camera, but in my experience its very disappointing. Especially the front facing camera. It's always blurry, and what is up with all that smoothing out??? Even when it's off it just does the same. I haven't changed any special settings. After looking for a solution I see that I'm not the only one experiencing this. Is this just a question of taste, or is there really something "broken" at the moment with this camera?? I'm really considiring returning this phone. 1000€ and this is the picture quality I get?
I paid considerably less than 1000€ a week after launch, I think I'd return it if I paid that much. I've had some good photos from the camera and also less impressive ones, it seems Pro mode is the place to be.
Yes the selfie cam sucks. Too much post processing causing the smoothing effect. I'm not an Instagram model, I don't need to look airbrushed.
The rear shooters though can produce some really nice pics.
It's the software that causes issues. The hardware is solid.
The other option is to download GCam which uses Google's HDR Processing from the Pixel devices. It produces really nice photos. Some GCam builds have Night Sight working as well.
You might find this link useful for installing GCam, it seems to be a bit hit and miss, the camera works for a little while and then just force closes every time it's launched.

Welcome to the esteemed club of Note 9 owners! unfortunately a lot of us are already having this issue and understand exactly how you feel! there is a thread on here already about this: see below
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/help/galaxy-note-9-camera-sharp-t3835459
and trust me its annoying having paid so much for this device and then get this rubbish picture quality!.... and I bet you any money Samsung folks read these forums so whether its a case of "cant be bothered" or "working on it", no one knows!
I hear the point about Gcam download as an option but I really feel I should not need to download additional software to make up for Samsung's lapses. We buy this device cos we love it and desperately want it to work, guess Samsung makes them only to get our money... not rocket science who the real losers are !

Tbh I also paid far less. But still, one expects to get a decent camera for this price and all that marketing jibberjabber. How come all big YouTube tech reviewers praise this camera ?! Money makes them dance

Now if these problems can be fixed with future updates that would be great, but is there communication from Samsung about this? And can this be fixed with (near) future updates.

The only likely upgrade would be Samsung's take on Night sight, I wouldn't expect any miracles.
Guys, hey, HW is solid as someone said, i also have some issues with cam quality, i thing that we must wait till we have pie update and then see what changes. Like im working with audio eq and for example player FIIOX5 III sounds quite bad at beggining, but later firmware updates makes it much better. So i thing - wait for software update and then decide to do something with it or ask for refound.

It's been hit and miss too for me, coming from a Pixel 2 XL.
Things are considerably better since I use the Arnova's Gcam port (better than my Pixel 2 XL in fact), and it made me realize Samsung's app/post-processing is the issue, not the Note 9 camera/sensor
Samsung needs to go back to the drawing board and do something about that agressive, over the top post-processing. Like I said, Gcam produces way better, more natural looking like pics, and most of all, they're not blurry (faster shutter time with Gcam maybe?)

More features like Advanced HDR+ and Night Sight are working for me with Arnova's builds vs the one you just posted.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/
Can you post some sample pics? This phone is consistently rated as one of the top cameras on the market and I have to say that I'm not disappointed. In good conditions it's hard to say that it's any worse than my DLSR with expensive lenses. Night shots are excellent too. If your rear camera is as bad as you claim, perhaps there is a hardware problem? The front camera does apply a lot of post processing (which I'm not a fan of either) but you can turn most of it off.
TLDR: either you have an actual hardware problem or insanely high expectations, the camera on this phone is just about the best on the market. When I say that it comes close to my DSLR, I'm not kidding.

That's the one you want: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.3d_TlnNeun_2.apk
If it force-closes on launch, that's because it was installed over an older version, just clear data + cache and relaunch, it will work
Reading some of these comments . . . The stock camera app takes fantastic looking pictures IF the subject is not moving. Try taking a picture of your kid or pet doing anything BUT standing still and the photo is a blurred mess. Wish the shutter speed was faster smh not holding my breath on Samsung fixing it thru an update

Use Pro mode if you want to be able to specify your shutter speed, I find the raw's are pretty good once they've had some basic touch-ups.
Guys, I am planning to get this phone. From the reviews, I have seen about this camera and for the short time I had a look at all the pictures taken from the Vivo X70 Pro (not plus) I am quite impressed. There are a few reviews that pointed out some minor stabilization issues on front camera and other minor issues like the output of image quality at times slipping out.
I am just curious to know from the users about the general opinion on the photographic and video prowess of the phone and had there been any new updates/fixes to the camera software from October 2021 that might have improved the camera even further.
thank you all in advance!
Sany
I would like that there was the possibility of using the gimbal camera in external applications to be able to do stabilized live streaming.

The back camera is top of the line, in my experience better than most out phones out there, if not the best. Front camera is decent in 98% of the situations, it may under perform in some areas like when under direct light etc, but not as bad as people describe it in reviews. Overall, money well spent.

None as for as Funtouch OS is concerned. They have a huge scope to imporve on Software lines like Google Phone. But Vivo is very cautious about using its Camera Beast.
I tried horizontal line stabilization today and was amazed.
Holding the phone horizontally, walking without holding it straight, a stabilized video came out.

Not by a lot, origin os here, but not many things I would like to be changed. Improvements yeah, eventually they will come. But it is currently a beast!
They actually removed a lot of third party support in Ocean OS. No 10bit support, no stable 50fps, only main lens in filmic pro since the update. If you care about Filmic Pro and mcpro24fps Id suggest not to update.
The Vivo Camera is rock stable as ever but it eats A LOT of battery for video. If you use the normal camera app the phone is still a beast.
