Hi everyone, I'm new here and would really appreciate some help with my new phone from Mobilicity. Samsung Galaxy Mini (SGH-T499)
After rooting, unlocking and installing all my apps I realized my phone doesn't come with Native Chinese support. I can type some chinese characters while some appear as squares. CSR from mobilicity said that the phone doesn't have Native Chinese support and won't provide any support.
I'm guessing the only thing left for me to do is installing a custom rom with native chinese support (if there is even one available). It's not a big deal but my girlfriend's parents only understands chinese and it would be a lifesaver...
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.
PS: In case there isn't a rom with native chinese support. Since i factory resetted my phone, I might as well install a custom rom since stock rom is garbage.
What's the latest custom rom without bugs and is 100% stable? Any help on this would be great. Thanks in advance.
For samsung dart, i doubt that there might be any but one custom rom i suppose.
Try searching inside the galaxy mini android development forum for it.
or google it.
Edit: i was wrong.
Found a cm7 port for dart on madteam forum…
Try this.
Dev's comments
Partially working:
Camera (no preview but can take pictures, unable to adjust effects, brightness, sharpness, contrast and exposure)
Not working:
Video Camera (depends on the camera preview to work) Touchkey Backlight - Nothing wrong with it. Just have to finish adding support for it in the liblights daemon which I am almost done. But is a bit buggy.

Yea i found that one too. Too bad that the camera doesn't fully work. Guess i'm stuck with stock rom then...
Well don't think so that camera is a priority (atleast not for me xD),atleast you can give it a try..
wild guess:
search for miui roms - they should have it, since the genuine software is chinese (beware stability issues though)
Lol the galaxy dart is having hard time when it comes to custom roms and you're suggesting for MIUI roms.
Insane , try porting some already.
yea well no one seems to give a damn about this crappy phone lol...
guess its stock rom for now..
Well there is always hope,
You can try compliling cm7 from source, if you want to or modify stock roms to your needs.
Good luck.
hello,
i bought a mi5 with 32gb for my mum. at the moment she has a Motorola phone with quite to vanilla android.
i dont want to change the OS to miui for her. so i intended to flash mokee 71 (cm 14.1 based). but a read a lot about bad camera with cm roms and i am not sure if its a daily driver.
what rom would you recommend?
They are all the same... Maybe you should go for marshmallow roms... They are really more stable than n...
i bought the phone because i thought all sources are released and officiall CM would work great in any way. now i have read about problems everywhere. i am very unhappy with the device...
If you want nougat, i'd suggest AICP/RR. I've personally had issues with RR and Doze, for some reason the phone is active all the time and bleeds battery. I've seen it go down by 10% in 15 minutes. Although i think this problem is related to me only.
AICP is nice. And Only flash pico gapps. The others hog a lot of resources.
As for marshmallow, CM 13 is good, RR is also good albeit a few bugs, and hasn't been updated since 21st November.
as RR is based on CM i thought there will be more bugs than in pure CM?

try this "cm-13.0-20161211-NIGHTLY-gemini", it is working fine with my mi5.
There is a Snapshot of CM 13 https://download.cyanogenmod.org?device=gemini
i have tried mokee, which id basically a cm14 rom, and its running nice, except the picture quality of the camera.
I have been using XOSP ROM, somehow the screen on time is like 6-8hrs. It is crazy. It seems faster and smoother compared to Miui8 as well
At the moment:
AOSP based:
CHYPER OS --> good battery and youseful features
SLIM --> rock solid, almost plane
JDC AOSP ---> little feature, good battery and camera, good stability
CM based ( i m not a fan of cm roms but this one it's really good)
XENON HD: battery smooth, fast, cm features plus some more, really good battery and no drain.
i m using cache and data formatted to f2fs, for all roms.
CM 14.1 is great except camera quality. I would use that rom for daily use but now I switched to miui eu rom just because i will take full advantage of camera.
If they ever get camera quality even near to miui, I will switch back to CM.
Xosp Record battery life, no lags. Just check it

after a lot of reading i think all non-miui roms have the same bad camera quality as xiaomi has not released drivers/sources for the camera.
this is the first and last xiaomi device i have bought!

The camera quality is quite on par with the Miui ROM on the unofficial Lineage 14.1 builds. It takes time for DEVs to fix bugs in custom ROMs before they can get it to become stable and then, can they actually improve things like camera quality. If you are not willing to wait, then you should always research on the phone and making sure the custom development on that phone is up to what you expect before buying it. The Mi 5 is a superb phone for its price, but trade offs have to be made too. Be glad that there are people who are actually working on making this phone even better. If you can't even appreciate and spare a thought about these Devs when you make such uncanny posts, then I doubt this community will be happy to have people like you over here either! They don't owe you anything for your "mistake" purchase.

thats not what i said. i appreciate the great work the devs do and did. the only thing i dont like is xiaomi's way of acting. xiaomi is always promising to release sources and so on but they dont do it in a proper way.
but i'm happy to hear the devs are on the best way to solve the camera problem.
I'm using the last official CM nightly and find it superb.
Stock camera is only average, but with Footej Camera from the Play store I'm happy with the results.
Just make sure not to install a full Google apps package since some of their apps don't play well with the CM ones. I use the nano package.

So speak out and call out bull**** like this. People who use their ROMs should be appreciative. I'm glad OP isn't one of those insensitive people!
I think the ROMs right now as we speak have suffered major updates, and all of a sudden I have doubts about choosing one instead of another, because if you guys check out the Development section, there's a lot of ROMs in there. We don't have any comparison or debate thread about one guy or so doing a review or brief about each and every ROM. So all threads and posts like this one (about daily usage and so) will only have a statement about current status of the ROMs. The devs aren't magicians, and there will always work to do. Bugs to fix, and features to be implemented. Just be patient.
Right now I'm in doubt of which ROM should I choose, and I hope you guys could tell the difference between each ROM (there's almost 10 different in xda). These are the ROMs available and I really want to know which ROM should I choose. I've currently Lineage OS 14.1 installed.

Since people say on every rom released with OpenKirin source codes that there are same bugs on every rom, I joined forces with some of my friends and in result=> KirinMixTeam Development, name's not fully decided, so it may change, but that's not important.
The important thing is that we already started working on a new P8 Lite source code: https://github.com/KirinMixTeam/device_huawei_hi6210sft/tree/AOKP-7.1.2 ,there are much more bugs to fix, I'm sure ril will not work on first hand, at least hopefully wifi works.
Our team goal is to develop for as much as we can, and now that I've finnaly repaired my computer I have 2TB of free space to develop on.
Reminder: Do not take our team as a rival to OpenKirin or haky86, or any other developers, we do not want to do that, take this as some good news that P8 Lite will get even more developers to work on its platform and others!
Also, since for now we're just 3 members in the team, maybe one of you want to get in. PM me or @AymenDe7 for further information, but if you think you are not ready for this please do not fill our inbox worthless.
P.S. Do not overhype already, wait until at least a bootable rom to be sure that our source code works. Tommorow I'm already testing first build of AOKP 7.1.2, so we'll keep you updated!
Thank you.:good:
Wow so P8Lite isn't dead
Nice news !!
I just want to get a stable rom that consists no bugs, and as stable as huawei's stock firmware. I've tried all of the custom roms and there are lots of annoying bugs such as,
slow and laggy interface,
poor app performance
720p 60fps playback issue
headset issue,
low download speeds on my mobile network etc. etc.
I've now converted back to stock and unrooted firmware, I will be waiting and checking for a %100 stable custom rom. good to see you're determined to make a good rom, good luck and thank you.

Nor OpenKirin roms nor haky86's are slow, they get almost all of them 30K in antutu. Problem with 720p 60fps is related to codecs, but I don't know what causes the headset issue.

Thank you so much for your support!
For your interest, but not interesting, I'm already compiling AOKP 7.1.2 for Nexus 6P. After that will get back to P8 Lite.
wait wait best ROMs kkk
Guys dont take me wrong if any of you are willing to try ROM building but cant do it due to various reasons like Computing power or HDD space or slow Internet speeds etc.., . Here is the best alternative even a small mobile is enough to build the ROM.

@XTutorials
I wish you luck but in my opinion you (and we as community) should focus on fixing bugs in OpenKrirn's source rather than making a new ROM from scratch
Actually on their nougat we just need video recording, 60fps videos (here emui 4.1 kernel and blobs can fix this I think), GPS and deepsleep to have a fully functional ROM (I don't count dual SIM).
HWC is unfortunately a different story...
That's the best option, we don't want other roms, we want fixes for current ones, like thst cpu fix... Maybe GPS, deepsleep, wifi fix etc

Unfortunately, in my opinion I don't think is right to just continue OK source code and post it as yours.
How it is said, better do it slowly than doing it fast and bad.
I know you really want asap a fully-stable ROM, and we put a lot of effort in doing that. Expect a booting ROM in 1-2 weeks from now.
Thank you for understanding!

I'm not talking about posting it as yours I'm talking about contributing to their project.
Pls don't get me wrong I know it's hard to develop on this phone (and we don't pay you for it) but you will probably also have problems with your project (maybe even the same as OpenKirin and XePeleato when there was no OpenKirin yet). What's the reason of doing the same job again?

I'll have my new Mi Mix tomorrow. What are some of/all of the things I should do to make it the best it can be? At the very least, what are some of the big things I should do right away?
Bootloader Unlocking
OEM Unlocking
Update OS to 7.?.? or Oreo if possible? How?
Root - Anyone know what the best method is, maybe provide a link, I'm a noob.
Flash ROM - What's the best ROM out there? One that doesn't cripple the phone in anyway, what are the benefits of it?
Pixel/Pixel 2 Camera App, is that included in any ROMs? Is there a way to install it only?
Is there any other way to make the camera better?
Is sticking with stock worth it or just to unbearable?
Did I miss anything? Any links you can provide would be greatly appreciated! I get so overwhelmed looking through these forums I wind up giving up. I really want to make this phone the best it can be!
Thanks in Advance!
P.S. If you and recommendations for cases or screen protectors, that would be cool too!

+1 for that. Some call miui is laggy etc, which is bullshît. I was always choosing miui even on non-mi devices. Theme engine of miui: A fk'n cool stuff ever built in my eyes. Easy to set and customizable ?
Yet, I tried many of Los/Aosp based roms on Mix, always went back to miui, Epic rom actually.
Thanks for all the replies! I got the phone a day early and holy crap is this thing gorgeous!
Anyway, @Kalisfura1001, I took a brief look at the guides and boy there's a lot of modifications, tweaks, etc... Surely standard for any phone on these forums but still a bit overwhelming for me. I'll dig deeper once I'm more settled in with the phone. Thanks.
@gtshiftin6, @james1089, I'm happy to hear that you really enjoy using MIUI. Some questions for you if you would be so kind:
Is there an MIUI beta update out there with Nougat and is it worth it? Or are you just using the latest MIUI provided by OTA updates?
What tweaks or App installs have you done. if any, to help out with the poor performance of the camera?
Are there any tweaks in the settings that you would recommend turning on/off?
That's all I can think of at the moment. If you guys think of anything else that new owner may not be aware of please share!
Thanks
I don't mean to be that guy, but i was wondering if anyone was going to bring plain old lineage 15.1 to the Mix. I see all these new oreo roms, with both aosp and los bases, and while they are intriguing, I'd prefer to stick with the tried and true, the most well supported, and thus the most stable custom rom for android.
Ah... I haven't any right to be impatient. I appreciate the work thus far. Just a wish.
I moved away from Lineage since AICP is basically LOS + their extras, and frankly I was building it for myself to begin with. I assumed the AICP/LOS maintainers would already have put out Oreo builds by now. I always found AICP and RR (although it's mostly AOSP-based) to be every bit as stable as LOS, and any bugs they had would almost always be inherited from it. The only app that isn't working in AICP/RR that I'm aware of is the default Music app. There aren't any apps crashing or random reboots or anything else that you'd normally associate with beta ROMs (aside from the TWRP issues that some have reported).
It doesn't look like RR is going to have an official maintainer for the Mix so I might have that one for the foreseeable future. The AICP guy said that they will be bring Oreo builds soon. If/when they do I suppose I could swap AICP out for LOS, but juggling 3 ROMs is a bit much. Even if I built it, it'd almost certainly have the same TWRP issues with decryption/mounting data that my last AICP/RR builds had. Hopefully Hen Ry will migrate to Oreo ASAP.

Didn't necessarily expect the outpouring, but it is appreciated. Ive heard alot about aicp, and its rock solid composition. In theory id like to switch, but i perhaps have an irrational attachment to LOS. Been running custom roms for 7 years now and I'm not long for much experimenting, though i should probably do a bit more.
Ha, no pressure at all, but it would be cool to see LOS 15.1 in official or unofficial capacity. Gavin especially, you've put in alot of work, so dont take it too seriously. Just voicing a thought. Thanks guys.

Tried it, works like a charm.
HOWEVER, the twrp issue, encryption, 0mb data even though the settings in 15.1 state that the rom is not encrypted, that's been plaguing all oreo roms reared its ugly head. Typing this on my trusty oneplus one because i utterly botched my mix. Whew. I know better. Still, it hurts.

Re: twrp issue, what version are you using ? Same problem with RR oreo? Is proximity working on this rom?
Sorry, didn't test long enough to find out. Chickened out at the first sign of trouble. I really cant have my phone down for too long.
As for the twrp, its an older version, smarty twrp based on 3.0.2.? I believe it is the only other version of twrp beyond raines that doesn't have the touch screen issues if not matched perfectly with the rom. It flashed oreo, but it wouldn't mount any partitions after flashing oreo. Had to format everything. Should've anticipated that, but id been drinking.
Oh well.
From whay ive seen, i have no reason and had no expectation of proximity working here,as this is the base for other roms with non-working proximity. Those that have downtime to spare can confirm.

The MultiROM and raupe builds are both newer and have working touch. I've been using this one for ~6 months (unencrypted) and never had any issue with the Oreo ROMS (PE/RR/AICP and Cardinal).
The proximity mention was because they stated that they had fixed the issue.

Cheers man..next time dont drink and flash roms lol..kidding aside..well i asked about proximity since the dev mentioned that he found the solution to the proximity issue on other oreo roms....
What good is it if everyone creates a ROM and they all have the same sources?
I have already created a LOS build, but no proxi and partition is
"Encrypted".

Well if built from same sources possible no difference at all..anyway, may i know if what twrp you are using? Thanks hen ry and eagerly waiting for your official oreo los based rom.
I know im not a pro dev , im starting to it but hey...we all have started from zero so..ill try my best to keep Mi Mix updated (the proximity sensor fix is not mine , the user that fixed it don't want to share with me so sorry for that) , as I don't know which sources are the best I just use the ones that the other devs used .

The average user doesn't care or know about sources. Sure, PE/Cardinal and AICP/RR could be twins, but more choice is better than less.
The whole reason that myself and albertoduqe started building Oreo ROMs is because no one else was doing it. Sure, some of them might be very similar, but to the end users most ROMs are 95% identical anyway. All it takes is for one ROM to have some minor config option or theme or whatever and that's enough to make someone choose it over the next one that's 99% the same under the hood. Also, if one or two of us move on to another device, like papps did, then there will still be one or two around to keep putting builds out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't almost all ROMs out there based on either LOS or AOSP anyway?

Just LoL. No other words.
Don't drink and flash, truer words never been spoken.
On the TWRP, I was aware when i was forced to reformat, but i didn't want to go down that rabbit hole again, not in that condition. Now that its down and im sane again, i suppose i could really mess with it. Ive reached the acceptance phase of loss.
Ill try those newer versions of twrp when i have some time, its a bridge ive needed ti cross, now more than ever.

100% Agree to your point Gavin. Being a flashaholic user, the more ROM to try the merrier.!!! Its regardless of the sources. To devs who are devoting their time trying to build a new ROM i salute you all. You all know who you are. We are all glad that you keep the flame burning for Mi Mix! Keep it up Devs.....
The major issue I ran into when flashing the build posted here is that I cannot flash magisk. An issue with mounting the vendor partion arises in that part of the workflow, ending in Error 1.
Beyond that, the temporary solution to the 0mb issue is to reformat your data to f2fs in recovery, specifically the one Gavin posted here. I no longer have any issues after first boot. A little more on my experience here. But this confirms it working on two oreo roms for me now, and I expect the rest will run too.
In my expanded testing, I couldn't get proximity to work..., but everything else ran fine for the most part. Ill have to wait until the vendor partition mounting works to continue on as root is a requirement for me, and magisk is the best supported at this time.
