T813: Horrible battery life with latest update.. rollback was the cure - Galaxy Tab S2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Up until the April(?) update, my 813 would hold a charge for weeks (infrequent usage, wifi off when sleeping).. After the April update, the battery drained in ~3 days. Tried a factory reset.. no dice.
Using Odin3, I downloaded the November 2018 version from
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
and back to the way it was.

Could you please be more specific as to which version caused the horrible battery life and which version you are currently now on?
Thanks!

I didn't write down the version.. but I got it as an update ~April 2019
My only reference would be looking at
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-tab-s2/firmware/SM-T813/
and they don't seem to show US versions. (seems very odd to me that there isn't official??? firmware from Samsung to let a user reinstall from scratch)
anyway, I "fixed" it by picking the UK Nov 2018 version. Not perfect, but it was better than sticking with the battery sucker.

Ya it seems whatever they did to 2019 builds for both the T713 and T813 ruined battery life.
There seems to be a pattern here. I will stay on the end 2018 builds.

I accidentally ended up accepting the continuous nag for the update, but got a July update instead of the March update... the battery drain seems to be fixed

Again, keep in mind I went to XAT by accident.. but I can live with that
There is also a newer Oct 2019 update, but I have not been asked to, not applied it yet.

FINALLY a Security update - March 1, 2018 update - BRC1

Well, AT&T skipped February, and waited until today to post the March 2018 update, but at least it's something to hold us over as we all wait for Oreo. The update came in at just over 39MB, so fairly small.

Hi, i have a s7 edge with baseband g935aucs4bqc2 then can i upgrade with this version of baseband?

It looks like a new firmware is coming (T700 only so far)

Sammobile has posted a number of regional T700 firmwares in the recent few weeks. The firmware patch level is from summer 2017, but it was built this summer. Bizarre, isn't it? Very un-samsung-like to release an update to four year old tablet. However, if they do release an update why not use the most recent Marshmallow AOSP codebase (I believe from r81 from October 2017) instead of summer of 2017?
Anyways, if this is not a hoax, I hope the T800 version would be coming some time as well.

Please see my thread XDA below - I thought I saw something a couple of weeks ago for my T805W but I am rooted so I can't check from my tablet. Perhaps someone who is not rooted can check.

I got my T800 Updated this morning. It was a France model and the version of the update is T800XXU1CRH1 dated august 2018 with august 2017 security.
The update says it was for the european GDPR law. So maybe just the euro models will be updated.
Got the update too. Confirm it says it is for GDPR. A whole update only for this? OK the security update is there, but they never bothered to keep it updated in that sense

Oh, that's disappointing. This means that these updates won't extend beyond Europe. Sammobile shows now that there is also an update for T800 (France only so far). I guess Samsung won't do a real miracle for our tablets, as in providing an up to date security patch level.
A new firmware was now also published for the T705 (TGY = Hongkong):

Anyone know if its worth upgrading to and the noticable benefits? Thx
I have upgraded with the new TGY firmware. Security patch level is still February 2017, and I cannot see any visible changes. So I cannot report any noticable benefits yet.
Best, maris

Just got a prompt for an update on my 5 year Samsung sm-t800 in th UK. Its 253mb and I guess there is no improvement just a load of help files and data protection warnings in the os I guess. Does anyone know what is exactly in it..?
Heard a very strange 'ding' from my T800 (U.S WiFi only model) just now, and sure enough a new software update window was on the screen. At first I was thinking it was a 'fake' splash page since I had Chrome open, but alas it was not.
Firmware T800XAR1CRI5 @14.89MB.
Their last update was over a year and a half ago for this tablet, and it seems they are releasing an patch every year or so. (v6.01 09/2016, then patch 6.01 4/2017, and now patch 6.01 11/2018). So this original Tab S 10.5 is almost 5 years old and still getting security patches each year.
Also, I'm a bit baffled since I had 'Scheduled Software Updates' set to 'Off' and it still got it.

According to Sammobile, the Security Patch level of this firmware is only 2016-11-01. So, either this update is for something other than security patches, or Samsung does not report the patch level correctly. If the patch level is truly only at 2016-11-01 level, then this update does not address some of the famous security problems from recent times, such as the KRACK or Spectre. So I won't be pulling this firmware because my ROM is already modified, but I might use the new ROM if I decide to start from fresh setup.
Just got a notification for the US version on t-700. I'll flash in the morning. If I notice anything meaningful, I'll report back here.
Before and after, for your comparison. Kernel was updated, and SE as well. I'm guessing patching vulnerabilities there.

Even worse for me, it installed itself without my permission overnight without even a prompt. I don't have updates on just like you.
I notice the kernel version has a new date but is exactly the same version and build.
Seems strange that Samsung would push an update to such an old tablet. Hopefully they aren't trying to drum up sales for the S4 by breaking something.

I looked for the s9+ also but like ya said its not there yet my guess its not on the s9 server yet or could be a different build number but I wouldn't figure

If u want to get pie, u have to get the ARI6 Odin files which are about 4GB. This is an Oreo file with September Patch. The subsequent update files on SamsungFirmwareScience is all you would need going forward after that to upgrade to Pie and other Patches if u choose to stay on Oreo. You just need to take a leap of faith and downgrade to ARI6 using the Patched Odin by Thomas or so 3.13.3

All Samsung firmware are not carrier specific. Now how your phone works with the firmware is totally unknown to me. Sprint is weird since it's a cdma network. If u were on a GSM network i would have said it's as easy as pie. But to answer your question yes, it's simple as pie to just download Odin and ari6, put your phone in download mode, load the files to Odin (if u want to retain your sprint software use HOME_CSC rather than CSC) then run the update files from there using adb sideload from the recovery menu

same here, n960n only that im in (SKC) and on april , which by the way is quite bad, you would think samsung will update those models first seeing that its for their home market but nope.
i thought maybe samsung knows we are outside korea but when i check sammobile and other web pages it doesnt show new updates.
i really didnt want to root but this might make me to root and flash a rom with latest updates, but first i have to visit samsung service center to check my camera module.
Same here, verizon update last night. Includes night mode. Also includes typo...lol

Any carriers release the July update yet?
I'm curious how this goes for me. I switched to Google Fi for a few days this past month, and the last time I did that, my phone got stuck without getting updates anymore. Curious if this got me stuck again...

Any carriers release the July update yet?
I'm curious how this goes for me. I switched to Google Fi for a few days this past month, and the last time I did that, my phone got stuck without getting updates anymore. Curious if this got me stuck again...

Yes, Verizon just pushed the July 1 security patch to my Note 9 an hour ago. It's a feature update that includes the V2 Bootloader, QR Scanner and Night Mode for the camera. The build is N960USQU2CSGA. I attached some screens in a thread created a few minutes ago in the news section.

That depends on what you mean by "July update". For the N960U1 (US unlocked), several carriers released the CSF9 firmware update in July, which includes the July Android security patch. For the N960U (US carrier-branded), some carriers have released the CSGA firmware in August, which also includes the July Android security patch.
Any news on ATT releasing anything?

What version were you on before? I wonder if I can flash N960U1UES2CSF9 to N960USQU2CSGA if someone has the OTA update.zip file. I am on unlocked Note9 and do not want flash carrier firmware but believe the OTA should be able to flash since they both on version 2 of the bootloader, I believe.

I was on update 9 from Verizon which was N960USQS1CSF3. For some reason they still haven't updated the change log on their site but they are pushing out the new build 2CSGA, which I'm running now. Unfortunately, I don't have the zip file, nor do I remember how to grab it. If I wasn't always busy with work and kids I'd look into it again at some point. I'd imagine that since they both would be V2 of the bootloader that you could flash it but I could be very wrong about that.
