Does anyone know how to make the lower buttons, back, menu, search, and home buttons not light up when I receive a message our missed call while using the NoLED app?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't believe there is that option within the NoLED app. The BLN has to be built into the Kernel I believe.... I'm sure there will soon enough be a supporting Kernel for this as there is much support for the Galaxy series phones and this sort of thing. As I am not a dev I have no idea how easy/hard it would be but I cant wait
The op was trying to turn the lights off not on. As far as I know it just needs to be updated for gingerbread/ns so that the bottom lights don't turn on. You can follow the original app thread here. It looks like the dev won't be working on it til after the holidays.

As in the camera flash? Well if your phone is laying on it, that probably doesn't work too well
Plus that LED is bright. Not sure what it's power requirements are compared to using NoLED.
Could someone just blink the menu buttons as a notifier?

That's what Back Light Notification (BLN) is and it needs a supporting kernel to be ported over.
Didn't want to start a whole new thread just to ask a question, but for whatever reason, NoLED doesn't work for me. I'm on Android 2.3.1 running stock (not LP or AWD). I've read the FAQ and I believe I have everything set up correctly. I call myself and miss it and I've emailed myself (different accounts) to test it, but I don't get anything on my black screen.
SOS?

did you use the widget to turn it on or restart the phone? personally i don't like it, i had my phone fully charged and had about 4 notifications bouncing around, not sure if thats a lot but it drained my battery to 16% in about 3 hours.

Did you go into NoLed settings and under "Toggle Settings" checked off the notifications you want?

Yeah my battery also feels like it's draining quickly put I never thought our was because if this, since they say it's good for these types of screens, but note I'm thinking it may be this app. What other alternatives exist to get some sort if notifications for the nexus s?

I honestly doubt its the app. Blacks on SAMOLED consume nearly 0 power.
Check your apps power consumption under Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery Use.

My phone says 53% display. It can't ber because I haven't even used my phone the whole day, yet I know I had some notifications with noled.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Display will always be the highest under almost every circumstance, regardless if you had the app or not.
If anything is higher than display, I'd be super concerned.

I use noled on my Nexus S and it works fine for all notifications except twitter for some reason,no noticeable drain on battery with this app!

Yes to both. I have the widget set to "on," restarted my phone, and before, made sure all the settings were correct.
Still, nothing shows up after sending myself emails and giving myself calls (didnt' pick up, of course).
Doesn't seem to work; I'm running 2.3.1 with stock launcher.
Just read the FAQ. It's the "No Lock" app that's preventing NoLED from functioning. That's a shame because sometimes when I'm at home, I dislike having to swipe or enter my pattern key to unlock the phone.
NoLED works fine now. Thanks y'all.
NoLED keeps force-closing on me! So annoying. Anything else similar that works entirely on NS?

It's forced closed on me a few times as well.
I'm finding I don't really need NoLED. I prefer having No Lock capabilities. Oh well.

I tried NoLED from the app market but I can't get it to work on the Fascinate. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any apps to get either recurring visual or audio notifications?

bln are built into all of our kernels these days
I've used NoLed since I purchased my phone in Sept with no problem. In fact, the wife and I both use it. Uninstall and reinstall and see if that works. Also, you should add the NoLed widget to your home screen and then tap it, colored dots should appear inside the box. At that point it's activated. If you reboot your phone I believe it does it for you.

NoLED was a great option prior to the popularity of "BackLight Notification" or BLN.
If you have a compatible kernel, I think it's a better way to go. It doesn't differentiate between different "kinds" of messages like NoLED does, but it's cleaner, and doesn't use the LED screen at all, potentially saving battery and protecting your screen from potential burnin/out.

I never could get that app to work right on the Fasc. It used to be the bees knees, till people started realizing that the lights never turn off until the message has been cleared. In other words, the 10 sec, 15, 30 second versions all stay on till the notification is cleared, despite supposedly having a timer. Newer versions of the BLN app have come and gone, yet I have heard nothing positive about them in the Fasc forum.

BLN does not have a timer unless it is set on blink mode, and there are no working kernels with BLN 2.3, which is required for blinking for the Fascinate. The "timer" you are likely referring to is probably for the timeout for the buttons when the screen is on. Since DJ05/DL09, the buttons stay lit as long as the screen is on.
To control the blinking rate, use "blinky" from market
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Blinky 2.3 (download zip from thread, flash in Clockwork) works on the Fascinate. Blinky 2.4 (Market version, no flashing) works to turn BLN on/off, but doesn't actualy blink stuff.
Try sms popup, works like the handcent pop up, but works for the stock messaging app which is what i use
so fresh and so superclean.

Really? Do you recall the release of BLN? Now it appears the developer has added internal settings. However, the releases in October-November could be downloaded via XDA and came in .zip format with an option in increments of 5-10 seconds up to 30 seconds. Despite the option, the light never turned off until the notification was cleared, even with a supportive kernel, resulting in rapid battery drain in my case. This was a turn off for me and I have not reviewed the product since. Now it appears that the lights blink instead of constantly glowing. I will have to check out the newer version.
didn't know of these apps til i read this thread. thanx everyone.
Anyone else having trouble with their trackball light not working on non-google apps?
non google apps? as in some 3rd party chat client or something?
if so then it depends on the app if it features the trackball light..

i'm not getting the notification sound for emails, either?
edit: relating to the thread topic, trackball light for sms popup isn't going off like it was with froyo. unrooted stock here.
eric b
Well it would be like for chompSMS or SMS Popup, it just wouldn't work.
Same with me, i think Google disabled the trackball light in 2.3.
More likely that the app devs just need to update their apps to work better with GB.
Mine seems to have stopped working altogether.
ya.. now mine is gone too..
edit: I just reinstalled sms popup.. and now everything works just like it was..
idk what's happening.!

I agree, I think the developers of certains apps just haven't updated to gingerbread yet, including Blink.
I've also noticed the flashlight widgets/apps don't work now either
Edit: oh, I'm also stock. Will this finally be the thing that forces me to root? Nah, I'm too big of a wuss (and lazy
Found a solution. Look for "Light Flow" in the Market, works like a charm.
I d/l the free app and it covers a lot, the paid app ($1 ish) allows even more (social apps, etc.).

The "Torch" flashlight widget works fine for me.
Been using Light Flow app for a week for trackball alerts with no issues, but you want the latest market version for GB.

Same.
The LED would blink on boot so I knew it wasn't the LED.
I restored and now my notifications blink repeatedly only if the screen is off. Once I turn my screen on (doesn't matter is I unlock the phone or not, dismiss the notification or not- literally just turn the screen on) the notification LED stops blinking. If my phone screen was on when I get the notification, the LED doesn't blink at all...
Ideas? Solutions?
After reading the thread in the devs section regarding the charging LED I became curious and I made a quick app to change between modes.
It's not great, but it gets the job done.
I couldn't reply to the original thread so I'm posting here.
Source is attached too in case anybody wants to run with it.
Thanks to @garyd9 for doing all the research. Read about it here.

Thanks you very much . Will add this to my toolbox of mods
This is nice. Just need some notifications and some color and this will be the bomb!
Thanks!!, working great.

Had lightflow first it works great. then tried this . installed apk work perfect even green flashing works . Thanks
What the fudge!!! Why was this not activated by moto??
Thank you! Works perfect. Hopefully someone can take this and work it into a ROM of flashable zip to have blinking notifications.

Is this supposed to persist through reboots? It works great when I select the light up for charging and full, but after a reboot it reverts to none
Same here. Doesn't save selection after reboot.

I didnt realize it, but the kernel I'm running (leankernel) supports LED charging via a script. It was setting it back to off on boot. Removed this app (which does work) and used the option built into leankernel.
Thanks for the app.
One enhancement could be to choose a mode for each LED, another would be to run at startup and apply the settings.
These are what i use ina script
#Charging LED blinking while charging, solid when full:
echo battery-charging-blink-full-solid > /sys/class/leds/charging/trigger
#Red LED as HDD(storage) activity indicator
echo mmc0 > /sys/class/leds/red/trigger
Hello friends!
after a week with my S6 + I am very happy!
but I have a question:
the notification LED does not work correctly with apps: Light Manager, Light Flow - LED Control etc.
I have the S6+ Root, but these apps work at times yes and no
someone happens?

with my S6 edge+ works perfectly
keep trying, thank you very much friends!
I've used Lightflow for years, but it doesn't work well with Gmail. It has a "workaround" option for Samsung devices running 5.1.1, but that seems to cause more problems than actually helping.
