1. i had an OPO and i guess it not supported anymore, but i installed a custom ROM the first day i got it and custom ROM support is amazing, there is still a big community. Guess there wont be many other devices being better off.
2. couldnt be easier. All u need to do is just follow the instruction given for the ROM. Support in this forum is also given.
3. For me the latency is the same as it feels with my gf's pixel phone. Camera i cant say much cuz the only fotos i do is about documents and writings. But these are super easy to read. I have no idea thogh how beautiful pictures will get.

I came from the D855 (G3) was a huge step i was going to wait for SD835 smartphone but my phone died, so i wanted something super fast, and unlocked, when i mean unlocked is a company that gives you acess to the hardware this is bootloader unlock, as many companys do NOT, the phone is tremendous fast, fingerprinting in 0.2sec it opens before you blink, the screen looks way better than my G3 which was the first 2k screen, its vivid and bright, dash charging is awesome it charge your phone way to fast xD, its the first phone that i dont need to let it in charger over night, 3.4A battery is more than enought, 8h+ of SOT? i had at must 1.5 to 2h of sot on my D855, huge huge difference, for the moment this is by a large margin the best device you can buy, as for the cameras or any other features i dont care, they do the work just fine, i have a mirrorless camera for photography so i dont care about the camera, its still packs a 16MP on front camera which get you a very sharp face if you are a selfie person, anyother i just got this phone by its hardware, super fast and cheap for a flagship? i spent 439 + karbon case this phone worth every penny, so go for it it feels very nice in the hand, and the metal its of nice quality! it even comes with a screen protector by default thats a nice touch from them! oneplus is a great company you wont Regret it!

OnePlus does a decent job but don't expect Nexus-grade updates. You'll mostly be relying on the XDA community.

Very Easy. Unlock bootloader from bootloader menu, flash twrp via fastboot, flash a custom rom and that's it.

Touchscreen latency was never THAT bad unless you're a pretentious user. You shouldn't worry this because most custom kernels improve it, and at some point it will be fixed completely by OnePlus. Camera is decent, the sensor is the same as the one in V20. It's the processing that sucks compared to other phones, so don't expect much.
4. Should I be worried about bad after-sales here in UK ?
Not sure what you mean. But i'm certain you will be satisfied of the phone for the price paid.

Note: I had the op3 and now i am using the op3t from dec.
1. Updates on the op are fairly quick, as of now we have an open beta for 7.1.1 with march security patch. We will be getting the full update sometime in this month.
2.This is where the op devices shine the most.The op community is great,you will get the community app installed on the device. you can find all required the guides for unlocking,roms and troubleshooting there.The op3t has support for all the popular custom roms so you can get the updates asap.
3.The touch latency issue is still there but it is not that bad.The camera is not bad at all.Its a great camera for the price and takes great pics in good light conditions but the low light photos are not that great.If you are a serious camera buff you might be disappointed.
4.After sales is bad here in India. Its handled by a company called servify. Had the op3 and i broke it in 3 weeks of purchase. I had got their one year "accidental damage protection" thingy so i went to the service center fairly optimistic . After looking at the phone they said "the back of your is damaged and we do not cover cosmetic parts under our insurance, we will fix the screen for free". I was angry but agreed to get it fixed any way. After that they say if you want to go through our insurance you have to open a claim via the op app,we cannot do it here. I returned home did what they said and after two days i got a call from some shady insurance company refusing my claim saying there is something wrong with my paperwork.Even after doing all the things they said they still refused it. But I loved my phone so tried to get it repaired any way. Here op3 costs 28k. After making a claim they told me i have to pay 12k for the screen,10k for the back and 1k for repair . Thats 23k,roughly 83% of what i paid for the phone in the first place.

One thing i am quite worried about is that like most companies the older models of OP have been not getting any updates from OP at all, e.g Android 7.0. Also custom ROM development on older models seems to be very slow and most major Dev have moved on to newer models unlike older Nexus which is still supported after all those years. I know I can get Nougat support via custom ROMs but support for old devices is one of the main things I am looking for, since I am planning to keep my phone for at least 2 years.
I think i am going to hold on to my G3 for a bit longer and see what other options are available later on during this year.

Edit: just look at the first OnePlus model and the 7.1.1 roms and kernels that are available and beeing actively supported, this is a 3 year old phone.
If you`re always looking for the next big thing or latest technology you can never ever buy a phone again. There will always be new devices that will be released throughout the year I ordered mine (coming from a iPhone 7 Plus) because i think and according to the reviews its a solid phone for a descent price.

So, here's the thing. I've had my Nexus 5 for nearly 4 and a half years now and I think I'm going to have to replace it soon.
I got a good deal from a friend for a used S7 Edge in very fine condition, but since I'm used to and prefer a untouched android experience etc. I just did not get into it.
So I started looking around for a potential new purchase and it seems that for a mid-upper price range the best candidate is the Nokia 8.
So I just wanted your opinion in this. I'm sure some if not most of you had a similar experience if not having been Nexus 5 users yourselves.
I'm mostly concerned if it gets the latest Google updates like the Nexus series did, if it offers a kind of Pixel-like experience menu and app wise i.e. does the Nokia 8 work with Pixel launcher etc.

Hi, I had a Nexus 5 and a Nexus 5X. I found myself in your same situation a couple days before Christmas, when my Nexus 5X decided to demonstrate the famous bootloop of dead. I also cannot stand the customizations applied by the various manufacturer and I want quick updates.
I have considered three groups of smartphones: Android One, Motorola and Nokia.
Unfortunately, the Moto X4 Android One Edition isn't sold here in Italy, the only one in the series that convinced me. I don't like the Xiaomi Mi A1 and the HTC One U11 Life is very overpriced (both sold in Italy). So I excluded the Android One.
Motorola smartphones have almost stock firmware, with some interesting additions (like the Moto app), but also bloatware (some Microsoft apps). Excluding the Moto Z series which costs a lot for the mods that didn't interest me, I had focused on the Moto X4.
But Motorola smartphones have a "small" problem, they are updated every 3 or 4 months, so they have outdated security patches.
Finally for Nokia the choice was the Nokia 8, since 7 is not sold again in the west and 6 (2017) is a medium-low end smartphone.
My choice fell on the latter. In addition to being a real high end smarphone at an affordable price, it has a fully stock firmware and hmd releases security patches monthly. It was also one of the first smartphones, in addition to Nexus/Pixel, to have received Android Oreo (the rollout lasted not a little, but in the end I think it has reached everyone and probably that of the initial build was interrupted to make way for the improving build released at the end of December).
The software is identical to the one you are used to, the only additions are for specific functions such as Glance or double tap to wake (for example). The pre-installed apps are the usual Google apps. Also apps such as dialer, Contacts and Calculator (etc) are those released and maintained by Google and not the AOSP counterpart (the Motorola instead have AOSP apps). The only two foreign apps are Nokia Support and Camera (released and maintained by hmd).
The launcher is the classic launcher3 with some modifications to resemble the Pixel Launcher (whose porting works without problems). Another difference is the accent color, blue like Pixel and not green like Nexus
On the face of updates hmd is keeping its promises, at the moment there is Android 8.0 with the December patches and in some days should arrive those of January (already present in the Oreo beta of Nokia 5 and 6). These don't arrive early in the month like Google does, but anyway they are released every month. It should also come Android 8.1 soon, since it has been confirmed unofficially.
Summing up, I think that Nokia devices, like Android One, are the ones that are closer to the Google philosophy.
Now I have the Nokia 8 for ten days and I am fully satisfied. Having been in your same situation, I hope I have helped you. The difference between Nexus 5X and Nokia 8 is clear, even more so compared to Nexus 5
EDIT: It seems that the January patches are already in rollout for the Nokia 8 (from a report of an user in the Nokia community)
I also came from a 5X that bootlooped itself into oblivion just before Christmas.. and I too am very happy with the Nokia 8, it has been flawless so far.
The launcher took a little bit of getting used too (its like the pixel 2 one - so you slide up.. on my 5X i had to press the middle button to get the tray).. but apart from that nothing changes. (with the exception of the apps noted above by cri347)
Nokia have added their own File manager (Files) but its tiny and works well.. It replaces downloads on the 5X.
There's also currently an annoying bug somewhere between Nokia and google where photos (which is the default gallery app) cant delete anything off the SD card (it was introduced following the January security patches by Nokia) - but you cant really count this against the device as the nexus didn't have SD cards so couldn't have had this issue.
Oh and one other very minor issue.. the NFC reader is weird. It works fine for payments on a chip and pin terminal, but it cant read NFC chips in passports or bank cards, or the little stickers.. it just doesn't work. Just something to watch for if that's important to you - it seems to be a design fault that affects all of them.
Its a great upgrade and its the best phone I've ever used. If it had Wireless charging I'd buy another right now as a spare!

Actually I've been using a custom ROM on my Nexus 5 with a ported Pixel Launcher so I am used to it, its fine.
As far as file managers go, no prob there either since I insist on using Total Commander! :cyclops:
So as I said, I'm keeping my eyes open and probably will come around to getting either Nokia 8 (2018) or Nokia 9.

That is the stock file manager, was also present on the 5X, so I did not mention it. On the 5X it is reachable from the storage settings, but with Android Oreo has virtually replaced the Downloads app. In fact they are the same app, only that the most recent has access to all the folders. On the Nexus it was still called Downloads in the launcher, while on the Pixel and on this Nokia is called Files. In the apps settings of the Nexus 5X instead it was correct as "Files".

Unfortunately in Italy Android Pay isn't yet available, so I cannot try payments via NFC. I have an AiO Printer with an NFC tag for download the Epson app, then a passive tag, like those in passports or credit card and it work properly. I think the NFC antenna is placed near the protective glass of the camera, because it is sensitive there. Just a touch in that area on the tag and it works, even with a cover (which moves the glass away from the surface). Rather I believe there are bugs in the management services of the NFC, it seems that sometimes it goes on standby even when the screen is on, not working until it is deactivated and then reactivates.
Unfortunately, the wireless charging goes against the metal body But charging via cable is very fast, even with the Nexus 5X charger and the battery life is surprising despite the relatively small battery, it double my old 5X.

I think there will not be a Nokia 8 2018 already, rather a new color (Sirocco, shiny gold at Nokia style ). It would be a contradiction, since the 9 still shares much of the hardware with the 8. There would be too much overlap in the range.
I think it will remain the current Nokia 8, as high end device at a good price and the new Nokia 9 with an 18:9 display and maybe a photographic section at a higher level, all at higher price. Probably all exclusive for China in the first months (Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 9).
Our Nokia 8, as a camera hardware is not bad, confirmation is given by the third-party apps, they have to work on the software and a new app seems to be coming out, with full Zeiss collaboration.
However, the January patches have already arrived at all, hmd is confirmed good about updates. I am very satisfied
Which phone will be more long lasting in terms that it will not slow down after Android or Interface (Samsung Experience, One UI) upgrades?
I'm looking between these 2 phones for the one that will have a better CHANCE for lasting 5 years being as quick and as “battery life good” AS POSSIBLE.
I think all of us know that the OEMs make our phones slower by patches, upgrades with attached algorithms to slowly month after month (so we couldn’t notice) shorten the battery life, slower the speed and make battery consumption bigger with sole intention for us to buy a new model next year or in the next 2 years.
BTW I don’t need the Pen and I don’t play any games and I don’t need a super good cam. EDIT: no rooting and no custom romming for me on that device for ever.
If I don't need the Pen why to bother with Note you may ask?
Well, I hope that Note being the business phone is going to be treated better by Samsung in the above terms than a Galaxy S phone, but maybe it’s the other way around?

i'm using a Tab S 8.4 SM-T705 LTE as a daily driver it's coming up to 5 years, it's still going strong! im rooted modded my Tab S is an awesome bit of kit!
Both phones you have suggested, can easily last past 5 years so it's up to you what are you reqiuremnets do you need a S-PEN ? or you into photography then go for the S10+
i'm planning on keeping my Note 9 for next 5+ years! that's if samsung dont put a hole in the display, for the next Note lineup, if they do then this is my last Note from samsung i'm ever purchasing!
if you dont mind the hole punch in the display? Then go for the S10+ as that screen on the S10+ looks awesome! i find it much brighter then the Note 9! Also i doubt i'll ever upgrade my Note 9 to ONE UI PIE 9 it runs super smooth on Oreo 8.1 so i'm sorted for the next half decade!

4. I found out yesterday in shop that on stock rom (Oreo) Note 9 runs smooth but I fear that after upgrading to Pie+ One UI there's going to be at least micropauses, (it freezes for a second), lags, no smoothnes enymore like in S8 that recently upgraded from Oreo. All stock, no root, no custom.

2: That screen is awesome i had a play with one wow it’s really sharp and bright it's an beautiful AMOLED display SAMSUNG nailed the S10+ display!
3: Dude there's nothing wrong with having a half a decade old device! (Please ignore keyboard warriors! Oh no he’s keeping a device for 5 years lol) When people see video playing on my Tab S 8.4 it's so sharp and bright they are shocked how amazing it looks not bad for nearly a 5 year old device!

With all do respect it's harder to get hacked on 1) tablet 2) old 3) rooted and maybe custom romed 4) not so popular compared to the phones we're talking about
besides I think I wrote that I'm not going to root nor custom rom the device ever EDIT: I didn't, I'm sorry, I edited the OP.

if i didn’t have the Note 9 i would have gone for the S10+ one thing i hate about these days smartphones batteries are not user removable! My Tab S 8.4 i could easily get 10+ hours out of it hard use!
Now i get around 3 or 4 hours that’s with just under 4000 chargers discharges!
So this time I’m not letting the note 9 drop below 20% and i try not to charge full 100% keep it at 80 or 90% i just want to see few years even 4 years down the road if the battery can give me a easily day use as it now!
Just be careful with battery charge discharges if you really want it to last 4/5 years!

I don't need to watch it. I compered these cams long time while being in a shop.
I don't care how great the winner is. The looser is still so good that I don't care about that.
And I said something about camera (read again please) for people not to try to suggest me getting a Xiaomi POCOPHONE F1 that has Snapdragon 845, from screens on the net it has a good camera and it costs 300 USD.

2: brilliant i only recently found out 20-80% battery theory!
3: That’s hard question wow I’m leaning towards the Note 9 due to Bluetooth S-Pen it's so cool and real handy in real world use! Plus Note feels more pro type of device! But after seeing the S10+ the other day! Sorry here I go again the screen i know i keep going on about the screen sorry i can’t get it out of my head it's so crisp bright! But the only true upper hand the S10+ has over the Note-9 is the camera setup and here i go again screen and off course the newer Exynos CPU!

I was mezmorized just like You and yeah the Note 9 ' 10nm Exynos vs. 8 nm Exynos in S10+ that makes it even more harder cause the seller told me it's the first Samsung SoC that took the idea of AI seriously, however I don't believe in this hardware-software AI marketing BS. It's just good software algorythms and all - like the ones that make photos better and find faces on camera app. The newer Exynos is just better case it's minus nm and its newer a probably better.
4. I'm shocked how we share very simillar experiance and way of thinking. My S8 was long on the shelf aswell. I agree with the rest.
5. Can You please tell me if I order Note 9 in 1h what are the names of these DEX devices to put into the cart that are for Note9 deigned. I will get a % off then. I don't have time to check it now on line cause there's too much of this and Samsung always changed something in names depending on which type of flagship and generation it was.
6. I share real conceirn about not accepting any update after potentially purchasing Note9 - cause the first will probably be the Pie+OneUI ****pack.

You said a couple of things (you don't need a pen, for note in this case, and don't need super camera, S10 in this other case) that for me means that you don't really need both of them and for the pen, this was the real deal that made a note the most reliable respect to others in business terms in all the years since this solution was adopted to a phone / faphlet making it more nearly to laptops or desktops in its business functions.
In business terms, less bugs is the right solution and to have this situation, that means less firmware updates and not the opposite because when having a lot of updates, that means mostly correction of bugs and not only monthly security pacthes....for example, passing from oreo to Pie only when Pie gets to be solid rock is right for the note because it's intended for business uses but not for the S10 because it's intended for people who wants mostly a new OS for the new functions and don't mostly care of some secondary bugs knowing that there going away in the next releases so they can wait. Seams ridiculess, but believe me that there are a lot of people that wants the beta versions (full of the wrost bugs) because they can't wait for the stable versions coming out.
Saing this, the bugs that can afflict a phone after a major OS update is equel to every model so battery drains, freezes, slowing down situations and other things can or can't happen equally to all and mostley bepends on the modifications (new launchers, apps in conflict with the new OS, ecc) made to the phone before the upgrade that goes in conflict and even depends on cash /data conflicts and corruptions so that's the reason why when having problems, wipe cash or data of the single app or of the entire phone resolves.
For the phone itself, the note 9 is the only one having a revolutionary cooper pipe cooling system that makes cpu and gpu working cooler and faster (less autotrotheling for to much heating... in other words, less cpu gpu frequency drop downs for heating protection ) and makes all being more durable and only for this, the note is the best since now, even more then the S10, and this should be even the answer of the title of this thread.
On the other hand, the S10 is the new model and like for the coming out of all new models, it's going to have new hardware solutions so better cameras, stronger and faster cpu / gpu respect to the older models. Notoriously, the note series having same hardware of the S series so the note 9 is basicly an S9 with a better cooling system (the first time happening) , bigger battery and screen and also having a pen with correlated functions...so, definitely, the choise is yours and depends on what you need or want.

1. I don't need a pen cause I'm not an artist, drawer, graphics guy. I bought a Stylus for S8 and I enjoy it and use it 1/3 of the time. Maybe I get addicted to S-Pen like many people as I've heard.
2. I like smooth and fast responsive phones with super AMOLED and nice interface ..... etc. so S10+ vs. Note 9 stays on the battle field.
3. Do You think that upgrading S8 the first day Pie+OneUI came trough OTA and started lagging, 1-second freezing, not smoothing would never happen on the first day on Note9 and now after some time I could with no hesitation update Note9 and be sure that I will notice no drop in the 2. point areas?

So true! Once you see that screen on the S10+ man it's like a sledge hammer imprint on the brain! crazy how bright and really vivid + super sharp Samsung has pushed that oled panel to wow!
Yeah defo the Exynos in the S10+ is way better! Samsung is really pushing towards the AI side of things! I havent really read up on the 10nm vs 8nm will do sometime! Bixby they are pushing as there Ai, Bixby isn't that bad it comes pretty handy once you know the commands!
For Dex you need a USB-C - HDMI cable or you can purchase Clicky--> Samsung Multiport Adapter EE-P5000BBEGWW Also you will need a Bluetooth keyboard, and mouse, once all hooked up you got a full desktop experience!
Same with Linux witch can run in DEX so you got a full desktop O.S from your smartphone!
DEX is pretty polished off you can browse the web play games edit documents office etc. really you got a portable laptop in your pocket!

Yeah Dex first launched on the S8, S8+ it was a big deal for Samsung! They haven’t updated the page, it is compatible with the Note 9
I’m not sure if you can charger wireless, I do know it has inbuilt fan to keep your phone cool while in Dex mode... And it does charge the phone once docked!
Yes it is a gigabit Ethernet socket
I can’t answer that as I did order the Dex multi dock seller let me down so cant test what version of Linux is running on the note 9 see this link for more info on Linux for Samsung smartphones https://www.linuxondex.com/

Dude, one very important thing, a "expert" on the net and in real life calimed that:
- the DeX station for Note8 is exclusive in name and in destination
- the DeX for Galaxy S9 is exclusive in destination and name
So now let's focus is there a third type of Dex or a fourth and what it is name and what does it do and for which phone is it?

For 1. Pen is not mostly used for drawing reasons and normally it's used in many working fields and even in multy tasking environments and its the only way you can put an hand made signature in a document for example...
For 2. The response that you can have is mostley the same and if there's a difference, you will not be able to notice it if you don't put them both near to do the same things... So for me, this thing is worthless for deciding only if you consider it when phone is cold... Heat them by using them and, you can look if the note is faster because it's cooling system let's the cpu run on the same frequency as its cold...
For 3. The first version released of every OS is laggy whatever model you consider, Even for the note with Pie, then the other releases corrects buggs. Explained in my post why other things can happen and doesn't depend only for os having bugs by itself. OTA is the worst way for updating... better using a pc with smart switch or Odin.

Well, explaining some things could be to long so, for not going OT and for returning on the threads title and question, if the software is the same and offers same problematics , hardware is different and even if S10 has the most last hardware, the note has the most efficient cooling system ever made for a device and that makes more durability and also makes the device faster because not heating where others will causing, in the others, a decrease of cpu's frequency for overheating ... So, for me, note 9 is better.

In terms of business, the one thing Samsung takes seriously is Knox. This is irregardless of device.
Knox is what makes Samsung money once a device is sold to a business.
Want to build a custom APP using Samsung APIs or manage your Samsung device inventory, you have to pay Knox licensing fees.
One of the primary reasons you see security updates released for older devices is because multinational corporations and government outfits have thousands of Samsung devices in their possession. If we have a issue, we raise it with Samsung. They address it based on OUR severity versus THEIR OWN. If they don't, we go to the Carrier we purchased it from and apply pressure. Either way, internally or externally, the problem is addressed and the average consumer/enthusiast benefits.
Ok so I had been humming along fine with my Note 8 for 2 years but recently I started playing pubg heavily and it would only last 3hrs at most I called bestbuy and they said they did not replace batteries in Samsung devices even though it stated they did on there site. Anywho I seen the sell on Amazon for 799 for the note10+ with galaxy buds so I bit! Got it home set it up beautiful phone aura glow very nice to look at BUT it would not pick up 1 bar sitting the same spot my note 8 sat which always had 2 bars of 4g+ . So I returned it and decided to just keep my note 8 and find a way to get a battery, but then about a week ago I was browsing ebay and Amazon everywhere looking at NOTE 9 Amazon was 900 for the 9 and 799 for the 10 but went on Ebay and found Microsoft on ebay had brand new unlocked note 9 on clearance with 1 year warranty for 449, so I bought it and wow the Note 9 had same signal as the 8 but better battery 4000mah and no hole in screen and led light and headphone jack! She only came in one color for the sale which is blue. I'm usually a black kind of person but for 450 I like it just the same I was going to leave it on oreo but my 8 had the pie and I was already accustomed to it so I updated it and pie has the better of battery life. I just scored the best deal ever seen for a never opened or turned on phone. Which is what I wanted btw there were hundreds of open box rehash junk but I wanted a warranty and a trustworthy seller. Microsoft ftw!!!

Was offered a Note 9 (copper) second hand but in superb condition for £350 and thought what the hell as was looking at the S10 or Note 10.
Wow, blown away by the phone. Especially now have change the CSC to UK. So much smoother than my Pixel 3XL and with a bit more character to it. Screen scrolling is smooth and battery much better.
Am with you about the lack of pinhole or bezel.
Damn thing just works so may just stick with this and see what Note11 (or whatever they call it) comes about.

Yeah I have tried Google phone before and the radio in it is not nearly strong as the samsung. I used to be a Motorola guy but not since the note 8 I've stuck with Samsung ever since.
I experienced weaker cellular signal with both an S10e and an S9 than the better signal reception of my Note 9. I love this phone!
I had what I thought was the phone I really wanted, before this Note 9, in the Pixel 2 XL. What a disappointment. I just didn't like it. So much that I didn't even get around to rooting, before selling it.
I only miss a couple minor things, without root with the Note 9. This is the first unrootable phone I've had since 2012.
I got the 8/512 version, in hopes of keeping it for 4 years or more. I kept it on Oreo, because I did not want the new "features" of pie.
I'll let my S9 go to Android 10 / One UI version 2 and if all is well, may let the Note 9 update to that.
I've always felt that a phone runs best on its original Android version.
I am usually the same but I like the pie dark mode and aod touch to see. But oreo is a good os. I started to just stay with it but I'm looking forward to 10

nothing is better than a phone running on its original Android version but... lets hope Android 10 change this... I have been on Oreo still and once Android 10 is stable enough.. I will jump to it!

It's nice to see someone agree with me, for a change!
Most are adamantly in favor of taking updates. I believe security updates are almost placebo, covering old threats, but I'm no software engineer.
My and the wife's Note 9s are on Oreo, with the December 1, 2018 security patch, experiencing no I'll affects. Are we just lucky?

Pie's "dark mode" is so incomplete, it makes me wonder how "complete" the One UI 2.0 dark mode will actually be and the fact that it cannot be combined with a theme is utter stupidity.
I don't know this "aod touch to see". I'll have to go for up my S9 on Pie and compare the difference with the AOD on my Oreo Note 9.

If you use mobile banking and financial apps on your mobile device, then I would highly recommend that you install the latest OS updates onto your device. As those patch the unknown security flaws in your device's OS. Without them you risk loosing your financial data to hackers.

What about phones that are old enough to no longer receive any update. Should they be thrown out?

Comparing a One + 7Pro with a Galaxy Note 10+ does not seem very wise to me. By cons with the One + 7T Pro yes.
The One + 7T Pro HD1913 released with Android 10 under Oxygen OS 10.0.5 HD01BA is really remarkable, no bug unlike the 7 Pro.
For network sensitivity and 4G + speed, the Note 10+ is lagging behind, I made the comparison directly with my operator and I therefore bought the One + 7T Pro.
It's been 10 years since I was a samsung pro, in the style of pierced screens while I never take a selfie, I much prefer the popup camera.
On the positive side too, there is no slew of totally useless applications like Samsung's.
I just replaced the original SMS / MMS application with "TEXTRA" and installed "BlueMail" to manage my email accounts.
I also have a Galaxy Note 9, certainly the stylus is practical but not essential.
The Note 10+ is a very good cell phone, but my first purchase criteria is above all network quality.
This is only my personal opinion.

Seeing as those security patches are design to patch up security exploit holes in the OS. I would believe that installing them would be make your device more secure. Of course you are free to not install them. That choice is entirely up to you. I am just throwing in my 2 cents

One would think these to be true. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you made a bold claim about security patches protecting banking apps.
I just asked if there is any data to back that up.
It's not like this would be the first time we were lied to or claims were exaggerated about security.

It's not a bold claim--it's a sensible and widely held belief, so of course 'one would think these to be true', no evidence forthcoming!
If any given security update blocks hackers from exploiting some method to get sensitive data, we are not likely to find data that some actual hackers were blocked. This is a good example of a negative that cannot be proven, and absence of evidence is not evidence of absence! In security, there are no absolutes; you take your chances. It's a well known generality that an updated system is more secure that one that is not updated.
If your banking data is on your phone, and you go read about all the latest holes, in smartphones, that can be exploited to steal your data and log into your bank, you could then go on a wild goosechase trying to determine what holes are on your phone and what patches apply and in what software versions, which is not easy! At that point it becomes apparent that it's more sensible to apply the latest updates (that's what most people do). On the other hand, if you don't look into it, you could just pretend that your phone is better than most phones and there are no security holes that need to be fixed. In that case, ignorance is bliss, right?
I have halted all my updates since summer of 2019, because I don't want to roll forward my bootloader version, for the rare chance that there might one day be a method to root the Qualcomm variant, only on an early bootloader. Although that is looking grim, and I really should keep my phone updated. The point is, I don't trust that updates are only for my benefit, since it's clear that 'security' updates from Samsung are sometimes more about keeping me from being able to own my phone than protecting my data. I am not in any denial of either.
Also, to OP, ya, this Note 9 is 'better' than the Note 10. I bought mine brand new last spring for about $600 before the Note 10 was released, and I bought it knowing that the Note 10 would be worse, which is why I did not wait for the Note 10 release. What seems interesting is the Note 10 is so not loved that the Note 9 actually went back up in price after the release of the Note 10! Way to go, Samsung!! Curved screen, non-replaceable battery, camera holes/notches, removing headphone jack, bendable screens, and just generally trying so hard to be 'cool' like Apple, is what has turned me off of their products and Samsung as a company. It's like they used to target a market of more sensible lovers of tech, but now they have changed their target market to go after all the Apple fanboys, who fall for gimmickry rather than appreciate really sensible and cutting-edge design, leaving their old market behind. I am not a big fan anymore, and I'll likely look for another brand when I am ready to upgrade.

Not directed to you two specifically or anything...
Those security holes are definitely legit, but the breaking in and utilization of said holes aren't being reported on for very specific reasons. Especially when it comes to major multi-billion dollar companies that manufacture smartphones. You wouldn't want to buy a smartphone from a company that has had hacks occur on a regular basis. Not to mention if that did get out, the amount of crumbling some of these companies would face.
In my field of work, we report vulnerabilities we find to companies who's products we are using. Nothing ever gets out to say that a vulnerability was found. At least not that we have seen. I know a lot of folks have distrust of companies and why they update software but one simply needs to think like a business or the creator of something that's largely used by a lot of people, to understand why security updates are important. We all definitely have our reasons for not updating, but to not update and think everything will be fine is a bad idea. It's all fun and games or conspiracy until somebody gets hacked.

Ok update! The blue note 9 that I got on discount from Microsoft for 449 had to be sent back, the battery was acting funny and discharging very quickly after all updates. So I returned it. Now get this the very day I send it back Samsungs own outlet on ebay had the black note 9 wesley snipes edition 128gb for 349.99 brand new unlocked with 1 year warranty they had 5 left, I got the notification from ebay as I had been watching this item for some time at 549.99 but I guess they were trying to clear inventory dropped it 200 dollars so I bought 2 of them and about an hour or so later it went back to 549.99! Ooooohhhhh I just got them today 4% on both batteries I charged one up to 50 and keeping it stored and the other I'm using as my daily driver. I am on the original oreo factory firmware and going to stay there awhile which version of oreo are you oreo guys at? I'm sticking with oreo because it has 83 apps when its optimizing apps after updates and pie has 380 apps :0.
I think we pretty much knew this was inevitable, but I just noticed that Samsung just released this list today of Android 11 eligible devices. Unfortunately, it doesn't include the Galaxy Note 9.

What are we missing out on? So far, it looks like built-in screen recording, according to this Yahoo! article.
So basically, for us SM-N960u users, Android 10 with One UI 2.5 is essentially the end of the road, for us.
We have stock screen-recorder? Whay we need something from google? Screen recorder is there from from OneUi 2.0(android 10)
We have screen recorder already built in. We have the chat bubbles in a form via the pop up apps function. We can also resize pop up apps so the resizable picture in picture we also have of sorts. In Android 11 the screenshot doesn't have a notification in the panel which i find bad as in Android 10 i can take a screenshot, share it via some app and then simply delete it from the notification panel. In Android 11 you have to go to the gallery to delete a screenshot which you only needed to share, not save. Overall I'll be happy with Android 10 OneUI 2.5.
It's just getting close to the time where we're all gonna need to consider letting this phone go, that's all

I bought it 6 months ago and have no intention of changing it for the next 5 years lol
Also if someone so desires new android versions there will most likely be ports from the Note10 Lite as it's the same phone.

i bought my note 9 about the same time as you did and agree that this phone is still awesome as an 2-year-old phone.
however, 5 years is a very long time and technology changes a lot by days. so im doubt that you could (want to) use this Note9 even after like 3 more years.

Depending on what version of the phone you have there's no chance of ports. If it's not running exynos then customization isn't happening. Besides, 5 years is a disgustingly long time to hold onto any piece of technology outside of game systems and maybe computers/laptops.
The note 9 was/is a decent phone in it's own right but in today's time it's far outclassed by just about everything else. Removing old tech like headphone jacks and such doesn't make new things obsolete, technology is evolving and we're going into a true wireless era. It's not like you have to use Samsung's buds or anything. There's so many higher quality things out there.
Personally I just kinda don't like the idea of folks being so upset over not getting 3 major updates. The phone is old. Early adopters, late adopters. All have to just come to terms with it. It's not new, the tech looks dated in comparison to new devices. It's just the way it is
@yaibakt I had my S5 from early 2015 until early 2020 and it was not a Note + it was with a 32-bit CPU That's why it's no problem to keep the Note9 for at least as long for me. @KingVekxin 512GB/8GB Exynos 9810 here And I don't care that to some it's 'dated'. The uninterrupted display looks better than any type of notch or hole and there's no moving front pop-up camera. The removal of the jack isn't only about the more expensive wireless earbuds - it's yet another device to charge alongside your phone. But there are Type-C headphones so that's kinda ok (though you can't charge phone and listen at same time which you can do with the Note9). Also since I'm not rich or anything I won't change phones when mine becomes 'outdated' despite it serving its purpose perfectly (even better than newer phones with less useful features than it).
For my birthday in February I got a brand new PC as a present, then in March I bought the Ocean Blue 512GB/8GB Exynos Note9. Next step is saving for a car (so want the 2013 VW Golf, it's 8k euro here right now ).
PS: Not to mention that they removed the LED light as well which is extremely useful. Other removed stuff are the iris scanner, heart rate sensor, force touch home button and Bixby button (great as a mute switch) to name a few. And S Pen's and speaker's place is on the right side.
