I upgraded from or 8.0 to pie all seemed to be working ok. I noticed my vpn clients were not working. I tried a few things with no success and finally did a factory reset. Still vpn will not connect. Anyone else having this issue? Very frustrated. I have a unlocked bootloader as well. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Update VPN works fine over wifi. Just not working over mobile data. Thinking it's a restriction on mobile data. Not sure where , or what service is blocked.

Solved!!!
The problem was when I updated to pie the APN was auto configured to ipv4/ipv6. Creating a new APN type to ipv4 only corrected problem. I am with Rogers in Canada as a provider. Hope the helps others that experience this problem.

I am currently having issues connecting to the internet. I am running the old 8125 (cingular) is there possibly a firmware I need to update?
How would I check?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
What is the exact problem? Can you connect to the internet but does it disconnect. You can't get a connection at all?

I finally found the HTC Wizard config cab.
It seems that AT&T is upgrading the local towers, and this file managed to solve my connection issues.
Thanks for all of your help.

Hi guys,
On jp6 rom I have a problem with the wi fi by stucking on Obtaining Ip. I try a factory reset works ok for 10 hours and after this same problem. The router is encrypted with wep key. I've removed the security from router side but still can't obtain the ip. At work it s a wi fi encrypted with wpa and works like a charm.
Have somebody else this issue? How can be fixed?
Thanks in advance!
Strange... I thought the problem is long gone since JPC. This is a bug in obtaining dynamic address, set static address instead in W-Fi Settings -> Advanced.

i had the same problem. But I FIXED it.
I just set my wifi to use static IP.
Hope this works for you.
jp6 has horrible wifi problem.
you should really update your firmware.
I think jp6 is what I got when I first bought sgs.
update to froyo or jm8.
no more wifi problem for me.
I had to get the Wifi Radar app in order for me to connect, no matter what I did it would not connect for me, a phone thats a few €100 I`d expect something as simple as that not to be a hassle..
I fixed it when using this method

Hi guys, I hope someone can help me out. the wifi and portable hotspot are not working. The wifi has not been detecting open or locked wifi networks. When I try to create a portable hotspot, the phone displays the word, Error. I have Tmobile and use T-zones for my internet. Currently I am still using the internet but it is being used via USB. I still have and use internet so its not that Tmobile cancelled my internet but its more like something is wrong with the actual phone parts or the software. I have tired flashing other roms but no luck. I am currently using Android 2.3.4 on cyanogenmod 7.1.0-RC1-IncS and also has S-off. The phone is unlocked and rooted. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

Try upgrading to cm 7.2.0
APN settings
No idea if this will work for you but it did for me. I am on t-mobile(UK). Wifi and tethering were both working fine for me until I rooted my phone and installed a custom rom. After going through loads of different options, I noticed that the APN had somehow changed when I rooted. (Settings>Wireless&networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)
For me the correct APN (general.t-mobile.co.uk) became general.t-mobile.uk after I rooted for no known reason. Adding the 'co' resolved the issue and everything started working again.
I would suggest searching the internet for your network's APN settings and having a look at the settings on your IS.
Good luck.
I tried both and none worked. Thanks for the suggestions. Any other ideas anyone?
Any one know if there is a new wifi software update? That or a hotspots update but I think they might be the same.

So I have CE1 customized base firmware with the US oem firmware file dropped in. I'm on T-Mobile, and everything works except for mobile hotspot.
After testing multiple re-flashes, it looks like hotspot only works right after a fresh flash. On this first boot with the hotspot, a connected device will show a regular WiFi icon. After rebooting, the hotspot connection will no longer allow any connected devices to the internet, and the WiFi icon will show a mobile device overlay on the WiFi icon.
Anyone else experiencing this or have a solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes this issue seems to be common. There is another thread discussing this issue.
Is that thread specific to this issue? If so, can you link me to the other thread?
Make sure your APN has all the right settings.
I think you need DUN in the APN for hotspot to work.
You may also have to set a fixed DNS server (e.g. 8.8.8.8) on the client.
I think Google has totally screwed the pooch on internet sharing and there are various bugs. Eg: I believe there has been a bug in base Android for 2-3 versions for Bluetooth internet sharing. Wifi works fine, but Bluetooth is just dead.

Hi,
at first sorry for my english, it's not my main language. At second, I searched but didn't find anything here about my issue.
I set up 2 vpn connections in my P20 Pro (one to work, one to my home). Both vpn connections are working if I am connecting from mobile network connection. But the connection won't establish when trying to connect from a Wi-Fi (doesn't matter which, tried several different Wi-Fi's). The ports are open, the credentials etc. are correct and it's working from Wi-Fi on another Smartphone without problems.
I go to the vpn-menu, hit connect and 1 second later I get the message "not successful" for both connections.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? Is it a known problem?
Thank you in advance
Best

I had the same issue. VPN connection was correctly set up to an AVM Fritzbox 7490.
Always used to work with my previous phone, stopped working when I started using my new P20.
When I read your comment a few minutes ago, the VPN connection (no settings changed) all of a sudden worked when I checked.
You may want to retry and check if it works. I don't know if some firmware update fixed the problem in the meantime, but now it works on my device.
Oliver.
I'm using Tunnelbear VPN on my Pro, and so far no problems with using it on wifi. Maybe just restart your Pro.

I have to correct myself here.
Unfortunately it looks like after a fresh reboot the VPN connection over WIFI works. Then after a couple of hours, it fails. Whereas the VPN connection over mobile data works a few seconds after the failed WIFI attempt.
Rebooted - VPN connection over WIFI successful again.
Pretty annoying.
Oliver.
Hi,
sorry, I forgot to post here. For me it worked after turning off "WiFi-Calling" and restarting the phone. I also would like to have WiFi-Calling because of bad cell reception at work but VPN is more important for me.
To be clear, this issue only persists when using integrated android VPN functionality. I didn't try other VPN-Apps from the play-store or somewhere else because I don't use 3rd party VPN-connections.
I didn't try to enable Wifi-Calling and testing VPN after the last upgrade (last week or so). Maybe they fixed it?
Best

Interesting; I didn't know Android now has built-in VPN; going to check it out. (Awhile ago, I decided to go with either Tunnelbear or OpenVPN because they seemed to be the only VPNs that had independent security audits done.)
