At first, I was confused. I didn't know what I was missing. But I knew something was wrong.
Then I looked at a non-pie samsung s8. And I knew it. The dialer is so much better, because it has your recents on the same screen, while the number pad is an overlay. It's so much more efficient because you will only ever need one screen, ever. (T9 dial, or click a recent). Also you can scroll the recents and "hide" the dialer wihout actually switching screens.
Now that I know, I'm supper annoyed.
Can I get the old dialer back, somehow? Because this is going to bug me for a long time.
Also, HOW can nobody else have a problem with this? I can't find anybody else questioning this? How?
I hate change
I like Oreo's dialer. No plans to downgrade to Pie

Okay to start off I love my nexus one and would not buy an iphone so all the android fanboys don't jump on my case. But there are some software aspects of the iphone that i like. For instance I like the way messages show up on the lockscreen on the iphone and the iphones multi-tasking. I was wondering if it would be possible to implement the iphone style of multi-tasking into the nexus one. Basically the trackball can still be used for selection and all that good stuff if you even do that, but if you double tap it at a selectable speed it would open recent apps. Or even go further to make the scroll bar that the iphone has. Give me some response on this, tell me what you guys think.
what is this...i dont even?
what is your question? I want to somehow have a setting in the nexus one where if you double tap the trackball it will open up recent apps and possibly implement an iphone like scroll bar at the bottom.
Sorry for asking but.... Are you sure you know how to use your Nexus ?
yes i know how to hold the home button... lol

and? why would you want to double tap your trackball? you know iphone do that because they only have one button right?
also it would create huge issues for selection with trackball...
Let's say while wanting to double tap the trackball for multitasking, you had something selected, the first click should theoretically open that app/link directly...if we implement such feature, people that actually use the trackball for opening stuff will have delays, which sucks massively.
All in all, this idea is awful. You can make the number of recent apps higher in Cyanogen, do that and you won't need the scrolling bar of the iPhone...
If you want to double tap something, download QuickDesk PRO and set it to open on double tap of home key. It has a 'QuickPanel' feature that shows recent apps and its a fantastic piece of sofware.
For the messages on lockscreen.. download WidgetLocker and place Pure Messenger Widget on the lockscreen..
chompSMS does this lockscreen "thing", and even allows you to reply to them without unlocking, if you so wish, and relocks after.
For double-tap home, there's literally loads of multitasker apps that can do that, even offering "coverflow" style switching between apps...
Itching thumb is another good task switcher. nice looking graphics and gesture support.
Use HandcentSMS to replicate that better than Iphone experience
just get an iphone.
then you can try that, and maybe you'll go back to the nexus one, maybe not.

Nice first post
OP, the reason double tap is a feature on iPhones is because of the lack of buttons. Steve only likes to push is customer's buttons, not his phone's
(horrible, I know lol)

Thanks, The video below looks great.

Unfortunately it does not seem to work with CM61/ADW, only see 1-3 apps. Also the 'styles' preference is disabled.
wow lots of activity just got out philosophy class so its alil hard to comprehend all of it but, I am gonna try the lockscreen thing and the double tap the home button sounds really good. The thing that i got annoyed with holding the home button is that sometimes it will accidentally go to the home screen. LOL I don't want the iphone... my mom, step-dad, and roommate all have them lol. Android is where its at. With all these customizations you guys have told me about I am satisfied.
if you hold "home" button the last used apps would appear and that also means those apps would open faster which leads you again multi tasking. ok, I admit that's not a user-friendly way to access the apps but theyre going to fix alotof stuff like that in gingerbread.
There's also a program called Smart Taskbar. I didn't like it, but perhaps someone else will..

have you thought about running miui for rom?
I do. I am on rods 11.9

Is anyone else's touch/drag/lift smilies overlay horribly inaccurate-- like one whole smile row off?
Why/is there a fix?
Thanks,
Mine is. I think this is a feature. If it were otherwise, your finger would cover the smilie and you wouldn't be able to see which one you are selecting (maybe I just have fat fingers ). Anyway, it makes it easier for me... The same behavior can be seen if you hold down the period.
So for an upcoming April Fool's joke I want to get my N1 to look like iOS. Any suggestions as far as ROMs and themes go? Icon packs should be easy to find. I'm pretty sure I could toy around with LauncherPro to get the general look, but the key to a good April Fools is in the details. That includes the Notification bar and some of the built in apps (Dialer, email, etc.) if possible. Splash and bootanimations would help too.
MIUI would do the trick very well. Visually it's pretty much iOS copy.
MIUI rom looks like IOS, check it out in development area if nexus one.

MIUI always struck me as more of a TouchWiz clone than iOS, but I guess with some tweaks it would work... Probably a better start than CM at least. I guess it'd be too much to try to get the trackball to work like the app button on iOS and make the other buttons do nothing...
Scratch that last post. I didn't notice they've completely moved over the widgets and everything. MIUI should work nicely (assuming I can get the Notification bar done properly). For the button trick I'm thinking of just playing with the key bindings to get that to work and using QuickDesk for the double tap functionality. Anyone know what their app button does on a long press?
On iPhone4, if I'm not mistaken, it brings up the task manager.

I thought that was a double tap. QuickDesk has a "QuickPanel" that shows the recent apps. If I just have that with no icons on the rest of it, it'll look really similar. Close enough that even an iOS user might not notice the difference (which is the ultimate goal)
One thing I miss from my iPod is being able to tap the top bar and have it take me to the to of the page. Would that be doable?

Surely doing this to somebody elses phone would be a prank. Doing it to your own...??

Just changing it out isn't the prank, but it is a necessary part of the gag as a whole. At this point I've got the whole thing themed, slide to unlock looks right, the wallpaper doesn't scroll, double tapping the home button acts properly, and I've got a good plan of action for the face buttons. I'm down to two problems, the first being much more important: getting the Notification Bar to look like their Status Bar, and getting the icon jiggle when the launcher goes into edit mode(I'm using MIUI). I'm thinking I might have to change out the status bar layout xml in framework-res.apk. Does anyone know if there's a better way or if this will even work?
Anyone know how to implement the Universal Search feature of iOS? True the search widget more or less replicates the functionality, but I need it to look like and behave like Universal Search (needs to become full screen, and a second press on the home button needs to return to whatever home screen you were on). ideas?
ok, I am totally stuck. It looks like the notification bar is gonna be more than just a quick xml changeout in framework-res.apk. services.jar will have to be edited too. Does anyone have any experience at all with moving icons around on the status bar?
Hi,
I updated my HTC One today with Sense 6. Only two things are bothering me so far. First the far too big space between the homescreenicons and the dock, but this is a known bug and not really a big deal for me. But the second one is kinda strange and it seems that it didn't happen to anybody else than me. The problem is with the new lockscreen feature. You can swipe up to unlock normal, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left for the selected homescreen. But now something strange happens, when I swipe left. I expect to see the homescreen but it goes always to the most left page beside blinkfeed. I tried everything, rearranging, set other pages as homescreen, removing and adding blinkfeed, but neither of them worked. Strangely the homescreenbutton works as usual and jumps to the right page.
I would really appreciate some help or maybe even a reproduction of this bug.
Thanks for any help provided,
SkryptX
PS: Sorry for any grammatical flaws or mistakes
Does nobody have any idea for this problem?
I updated to Sense 6 today and am having the same two issues.
Seems like there is a huge a waste of space on the home screen where they now have a few dots just to show which page you are on and then disappear to leave an empty void. Kinda ruins the whole aesthetic for me. Also I have my screens set up so the middle page is my home screen with an extra one either side of it. Swiping left on the lock screen always takes me to the left hand page, not my default one.
Both not huge things, just annoyances really, but would still like a fix.

you can use the Xposed framework + Sense 6 toolbox to reduce the gap between icons and the launcher bar or even add another row of icon (5x4 instead of (4x4). The Xposed framework require root access.
http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
And for the unlock issue, I can confirm its the same for me, doesn't bother me as my home screen is the one beside Blinkfeed. Maybe there is also a xposed module to correct that bug.
Sadly I don't want to root my phone already... So there is most likely no way to solve this problem?
But I'll write HTC and ask them if they will release a fix. This is a damn basic function and this can't be so hard to fix this. I don't even know how they managed to overlook such an obvious bug...

just wait for an update, or use the screen next to blinkfeed as your homescreen.

well there are thousand of things to check when releasing an update, its quite easy to miss such a minor bug. And this is not so obvious, I did not realized it myself before trying it after I saw this thread.
So i use the on screen keys on my P10 but one thing that has been bugging me since i have it is the fingerprint sensor behaving like a home key, is there anyway to disable this? it's annoying when i'm on yt and a touch it unintentional and just goes to my homescreen

yeah I don't have any app that uses my fingerprint scanner except to log into PayPal
Its a global bug, i have it too
I really hate this too. I use the fingerprint sensor everywhere possible and this is really, REALLY getting on my nerves. I'd go back to my own Xperia Z5 if this wouldn't be what my employer got me. The Z5 actually has a very, VERY good power/lock button with a fingerprint sensor that actually is usable for something else than screen unlocking. I've used Xperia's for years and after a few weeks I'm really starting to miss my Z5 - mostly because of this. And full waterproofing, covered by warranty.
Is it too hard to add a setting to disable the button completely to use it ONLY as a figerprint sensor? I want to use the default Android navigation bar, not some unique gesture thing. At least Sony's Android has been very conservative for years but this thing is like any Samsung with tons of bloatware and this crappy and useless fingerprint sensor acting as a home button unless you touch it just gently enough. And I'm forced to use this for work. AaaAAaarrgGgh!
Edit: And I have the P20 instead of the P10.
Same gripe here. I downgraded to Nougat and the bug is still there. Very annoying.
Bump. Anyone has a solution for this? (Other than flashing a trevle rom)
I have this problem too. So annoying?
Only solution is t use the offscreen navigation buttons. Then the fingerprint button functions well.
Press once is 1 step back, long press is home.
Swipe over the button to see active programs and change or close them.
When u are used to it, u don't wanna go back.
I found a solution. Install this specific app, enable it, then set all actions to "none".

My parents just called. I got them a Huawei Tablet. They asked me if they could still return it because of this annoying behaviour.
Will try the app that was mentioned. Thanks
