So, I let a friend of mine use my old M7 in order to repartition/format an sd card (using an OTG adapter). Came back with phone completely dead. I do suspect he ended up partitioning or formatting one of the system partitions in there (possibly the bootloader?) phone was rooted so...
Anyway, situation is as follows: Phone looks dead. Long pressing the power button does nothing, no vibration, no keys light up, no screen comes on.
BUT, when connecting it to the computer I get the usb connection sound on my Windows 10. If I long press the power button for ~10 seconds, i do get the usb disconnection sound, followed again by the usb connection sound. So "something" is alive in there. Also, power+vol down button does reboot the phone.
However there's no way to access recovery, bootloader, adb/fastboot, or even flash a RUU.
It isn't even charging when I plug it in, no red led.
Anything else I could try before giving up?
Thank you.

When you here that USB sound when connecting to your pc, go to the windows device manager and look for devices in the usb section. Is the phone showing as "QHSUSB_DLOAD" or simply "HTC Phone" ?

Hey, thanks for the reply, sorry for the delay. Yeah, it shows something similar to QHSUSB_DLOAD. Looked it up a bit, guess it's completely borked.

Yep sounds like your phone is in Qualcomm download mode. Usually this can happens for 2 reasons.
1- Hardware failure
2- Bad firmware flash
this thread can help: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770684
Hard to tell since we don't know what your friend exactly did or what was used from that usb-otg drive.
A phone shop that can connect to your phone using jtag/riff could maybe fix it but doesn't worth the $$ asked for a 2013 phone, imo.

As far as he told me, he just used an app to try to format the otg drive, multiple times, and after a reboot phone died. He couldn't remember which app he used, but since phone was rooted, I can only guess he actually tried to format some system partition.
I will give the unbricking project a go, need to find a linux machine first. I really know jack about linux, but I guess it's no harm trying it Thank you!

Hi all,
I was flashing between Jf6 and JH7 today, wanted to see if flashing JH7 via different methods would give me a 3 button fix. (If it did fix it then flashing via Kies mini didn't do the job)
Ironically it backfired when Odin froze and I flipped out the battery
(Hey, I've been at the dl screen before when it was doing nothing and it survived!)
I plug the USB in, I get the exclamation screen
Do it with volume keys pressed, still get it
Hold down the volume + power and the screen goes blinking between exclamation and blank. I've tried releasing power keys at each point in those screens
I even took a video incase I'm not doing it right. Odin is running in the background. No USB plug-in 'pings' from Windows, as you can hear.
Anything I can do?
btw my bat build date is 8/13.. that bad week
I'm in Australia (bought phone off ebay) so sending it back to the States will be a bit of trouble.. I'm hoping I can work something out with the ebay seller otherwise I'll buy another cappy and hope someone finds the jtag points I guess.
same here. no button combo method that previous worked is working now. :/
OP, did you see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911
not working for me, but maybe it'll help you ... ?

You may also want to try removing and then reinstalling the Samsung USB drivers on your PC.
I've verified there is simply no USB device being registered no matter what OS, the phone is just sucking power.
@The_Bishop: Did see that, exactly the same as yours, plug usb in, get that screen
Anyone want to be awesome and send my Capppy back to Samsung on my behalf?
best method that never dies when i was in your situation......
unplug usb, turn phone off, then put battery in, turn odin on, now hold volume buttons ONLY then insert usb in phone, you will see download mode with odin identifying the port;
hope it worked ?!?!?!?
Believe me I have tried everything. There is simply was and still is no way to enter recovery or download mode on this phone. Its hardware locked!
a little off topic, but how do i find my phones "bat build date" ?
I had the exact same problem. If you do a battery pull.. hold down both volume buttons and plug the usb cable into the phone while it's hooked to PC then it bumps you into Download mode. I did the exact same thing you did and am running froyo at the moment.
Oh.. no power button.. just both volume buttons.

Done that. Exactly what happens in video. Both volume buttons down, plug in usb.. no response, just brick screen.
I had the same problem.. the phone didn't register USB.. have you rebooted the computer? I believe i did that at one point.

I did try once or twice. From another thread it was also said to disable driver verification on windows startup for x64 machines. which I also did.
Basically I want to hear from someone who:
a) has a captivate that could never enter dl/rescue via buttons, only adb
b) captivate didn't trigger a plug in 'ping' from Windows until they ??
FYI this is a Macbook Pro, and I booted into Win7 x64 Pro for flashing.
Hi I have the same problem..
What I did was this rooted with one click.. loaded Cognition 2.1.6 all was good..I saw the froyo so I thought lets try it. so opened up ODIN put it in recovery mode. with ADB could never get it in the button way.. it started to load and it froze. I didn't disable voodoo and IS THAT WHY I AM STUCK? I have tried every combo changed drivers computer will not see the phone.. is it a AT&T Phone
IS there anyway to fix it?? or can someone make a program to fix this? I would make a big donation if they did!!!
Thanks Forum!!
Yeah I had it in adb mode to enter download mode, maybe that is why it won't start back up.
I've now given the phone to a local mobile repair business, if riffbox or someone comes out with a Captivate rescue soon its probably as a end result of me
I sent mine back to Samsung as well. BTW, I have a battery from 2010.08.12 so I might be in the same boat. Wish I'd have used one of my OEMs to see if that made any difference, but I did not. :/
I have the same issue.
Rooted my phone through adb, which was fine. Couldn't get into recovery/download modes with hardware before then.
Now my phone is bricked, and not detected or even charging via USB.
wtf
If the repair shop cant fix it try this:
1.) Remove Battery, SIM Card and External SD
OR
2.) Press and HOLD VOL UP AND DOWN with USB inserted and THEN slap in the battery.
This worked for me, for some reason inserting the battery last did the trick.
Let me know if anyone finds a solution to this I have tried it all and my computer will not detect my phone. Has Samsung blocked this in there firmware?
Did you try what I posted above?
yep nothing if I could get it to detect in command prompt I could force it but it won't... the button thing didn't even work when the phone worked!
So ....
Hi,
Searched the forum and didn't really find anything like the problem I'm experiencing (even though I might be very wrong on this ).
My device is S-OFF, has clockwork recovery etc. And I was using a custom ICS build (namely this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424260 )
And earlier today it froze (not super uncommon ). But I had to remove the battery because it was non responsive.
But anyway. Now it's dead!
Nothing happens when I press the power button.
Tried it by removing the battery a couple of times, pushing the button again.
No sound, no buzz, just pitch black screen.
Tried booting into the bootloader with "Vol Down + Power button". Same result here. Just black screen.
Tried connecting it to the PC to boot into bootloader from there. But the PC doesnt even recognize that I have plugged something in
(using dmesg says nothing about a device being connected.. which usually is not so good )
The only sign of "life" I get is when I connect the phone to the charger (or usb cable to the computer) without ever tried booting it with "power button" or "power button + vol down" is that the LED lights up orange.
If I have tried to turn it on it will not light up orange.
I have tried to have it for a few hours (with the light orange) on the charger, then booting it.. But with no luck
I kinda feels like my device has died! I dont really feel it has been bricked? Maybe hardware malfunction? which sucks since my warranty will not be valid because of S-OFF
Anyone have any ideas or tips on what I could possibly try with?
If you were overclocking, the cpu may have overshot. Probably 'hardwear'...
You might take it to a repair facility to diagnose if they can help.
If computer doesn't read it and no boot, nothing you can "do" yourself...
Sounds like brick :what:
sent from xda premium on an Incredible S
Check to see if it responds to any ADB/fastboot commands
cant run any adb commands
Since it's not recognized at all by my computer I cant do any adb commands.
Not list the device, not do fastboot etc.
I still have warranty on the phone, will the repair shop be able to see that I have taken it S-OFF? Or will they most likely just replace the motherboard?
The company I have to leave it to is notorious for being the biggest assholes in the history of this earth
and yeah... I had it overclocked! but only by one step (from oc virtious quattro) or perhaps 2 steps max.
If you cannot see the device on the PC at all, the service centre won't know that you are s-off. If you have a windows install, check in the device manager to see if the phone is detected at all.
Yeah htc has so many repairs they don't have time to mess around dude. They'll try to turn it on, and it won't, so they'll try a fully charged battery and it won't turn on again, they'll throw from anew motherboard in after that and if that doesn't work they'll give you a brand new phone. I'd say you have a 5% chance of them finding out your s-off.

hey guys!
Can anyone please help me with my problem.
I was trying to root my device using this toolkit HTC_QuickRoot_1.1.10_Release (1)
The process worked fine until it rebooted my sensation XL.
Now it wont turn on. I tried charging it and it is currently connected to my PC through USB,,the orange LED on the top of the device doesnt even show.
I am hoping its only a battery problem.
If anyone has had the same problem and has any fix just in case it is not a battery problem would be much appreciated.
You can try taking it to a phone store, and asking to try a diffrent battery in your phone. But it sounds to me like a H/W fault. The method of root you used is not familiar to me. Are you sure its compatible with the SXL?
Sent from my iPhone 4S using Tapatalk
i think that the HTC_QuickRoot has never been tested with SXL
anyway remove and replug the battery and try to enter bootloader mode with power+vol Down
if its working u can unlock, flash new hboot, recovery and a custom rom
everything Here thanks to stona175
if u can't enter the boot loader connect the SXL to your PC and check in device manager for this device
QUALCOMM QHUSB_DLOAD, if u find it, it means that your phone is bricked
Ok so i took out sim + battery for about 20 mins. Put it all together then plugged it through usb.
good thing and I hope it only gets better. Orange led is now showing,
I thoroughly searched for QUALCOMM QHUSB_DLOAD in my device manager and it is nowhere to be found.
Tried POWER + Vol DOWN button to enter bootloader, but nothing happen
is there a tool when i can access my device through the PC?
well my SXL seems like its totalled. Orange LED is still on even though it is not charging or connect through USB

To enter bootloader try this: remove battery, put it in again, hold FIRST vol down and THEN (without releasing vol down) power. Give it a try, you never know...

If your device is showing as QHUSB_DLOAD, then your going to need to use something like jtag to repair it, or a service centre.

Hi, I posted a question on this already but the situation has changed. So firstly what happened was i rooted, flashed cwm recovery and was running the sinless rom GPE. this was fine for about a month and then i decided to s-off...the s-off process went smoothly and the phone powered back on like normal. Then i flashed another rom and there was a cyan colour filling the screen at boot so I decided to restore from a previous backup. However this backup was done before the s-off process. After restoring successfully I clicked "reboot phone" on CWM and since that the phone never turned on or show any signs of life.
At first it would connect to the computer but show up in device manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD but now when I connect the phone to the computer it jus disconnects and reconnects over and over.
Things I tried:
Holding power button for over 2 minutes (with and without bright light on the sensor).
Left charging for over 4 days.
Holding Power+VOL down for over 2 minutes.
Holding Power+VOL up for over 2 minutes.
Holding all three hardware buttons for over 2 minutes.
In the process of trying all these things not once did the led even blink or did the phone even show any signs of life. Can anyone help with this situation?

Hi mate, as i know, the QHSUSB_DLOAD mode, is the same to say: bricked phone...
So, probably, you have to send it to htc for warranty and they have to change your motherboard...

Theoretically no, because the mainboard won't work...
I think is the possibility that your phone is bricked is hard
HTC One, Froze, Restart, Cannot turn on, NO LED etc.

I also had the case of my HTC One, my battery was still at 55% while I was watching a video until it froze, so I decided to shut it down to reboot but when I tried to switch it on, it already does not show the Red LED, did any possible combinations of power on and pressing down the volume also under bright light, but there's no luck on it. However, I tried plugging my phone to the PC and there are still the sounds that it has connected. I checked it on the devmgmt.msc but it says that:
Base System Device, QHSUSB_DLOAD and Unidentified Device - All appeared to say "No Driver Found"
It has been a day since I left my phone wall charged, plugged it in the PC with the USB detected sounds but still can't turn it on. Is there any other way to turn on the phone again? Since I badly wanted to recover all my photos and other stuff from the phone Any possible help/tip/advice would be much appreciated! Would there be any way before sending it to the HTC Company? Thank you in advance!
There is a possible fix for that around here somewhere, a Guide to fix hard bricks, typical I cant find it now.
EDIT: Here it is, only supports M7_UL devices though, never had to use it so I cant answer any further queries on it, if you have any problems trying it you'll have to post in that thread.

I have the Xperia T and I am trying to update to 4.3, I had tried to use flashtool, but the phone isn't recognised by the computer when I plug in the cable holding the down button. Now the update is finally here for me I tried using PCC but again having the same issue. I have tried two different computers and all the USB ports on them. I have also fully switched off the battery (holding down the power and up button keys for 10 seconds).
I am stumped as to what is wrong with the phone??
thanks

turn of your phone. open flashtool. do not connect the phone to pc. select the firmware and click on flash,. after a few seconds it asks for the phone to connect. the hold the vol - button and plug in the usb. release the vol - button after the green light turns on. this may solve your issue

Interesting update (well not really), but I did some troubleshooting and stuff and found that when plugging my phone into the charger when it is switched off, it doesn't respond either (i.e. boot up). So I have a feeling that its the actual phone with a fault such as damaged pin in the usb port that relates to power when the phone is switched off?

I have the same problem.
When the phone is turned off it won't charge, either wiht the wall charger or with the USB cable connected to the computer.
I've sent an email to SONY but they told me so sent it to tech support.
It's not very easy to do it where I am so I'm looking for some other options.
I also noticed it when I was trying to update to 4.3.
PC Companion isn´t a solution since it asks to connect the phone to the PC while turned off pressing the volume down button, even to try the repair.
Can someone help?

Such a weird problem, but unplugging and reconnecting the battery solved all the issues I was having!

Have a look at the thread link above, very simple to solve just take off the back cover and disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes
