I did it,but no folder foundI made a mistake and instead of naming an archive .nomedia I put the name in a folder..

You can try two things
1) tc file Commander, navigate to the folder and delete the .nomedia file
If this didn't work, try terminal app
Use the "cd" command to navigate to the folder e.g. cd storage/downloads/blabla
Then del to delete the file

Look for Android terminal emulator in Playstore
After installing, run the terminal app
Then use the he following commands
cd /path
Will navigate to folders e.g if your .nomedia folder was inside the sdcards pictures folder, the use the command
cd /sdcard/pictures/
Then to make sure that your nomedia folder is here do
ls -a
Will list files and folders including hidden folders
Once found, use mv command to rename it
mv .nomedia/ newname/
Hope this helps

I did it at last, but can't find the folder. Does the first dot "." at list to be?

@Jason The Greek
Unfortunately it seems that the ".nomedia" folder is deleted as well as the files.
I did a test.
Memory used from my p20 pro: 24.20 GB
Creating a "Titi66200" folder and copying a large file in it.
Memory used from my p20 pro: 26.03 GB
renamed the folder "Titi66200" to ".nomedia".
The folder ".nomedia" is not found with "rootexplorer, terminal, adb etc." and the memory used is returned to 24.20 GB

It's gone.. By the way thanks all for your time and help.

Ok... I'll bite. Ringdroid from the market. Any other answer will take some info.
As in, the ringroid will put the ringtones in the sd card memory not the phone memory, i tried copy paste over but fail.
To place them into the phone memory you will need to either copy them using the terminal or push them through adb.
using adb, place the file(s) in your tools folder
Code:
adb push filename.mp3 /system/media/audio/ringtones
In the terminal, if you place them in the root of your sdcard
Code:
cp /sdcard/filename.mp3 /system/media/audio/ringtones
I am not sure if you need to remount or not to push/copy into the folder or not.
It says read-only file system as the error.

Try:

adb remount
That should fix the "read only" problem.
i'm not using adb... I'm using the second method which is in the terminal.
Do yourself a favor and go get Root Explorer from the market. It lets you move any file to anywhere.
Move your files to /system/media/audio/ringtones and remember to check to see if the files that are there are .ogg or .mp3. If they are .ogg just rename your files after you move them.
What you mean I have to rename the files after i move them?
What's the exact application name? I tried searching on market but could not find any.

I like SUFBS but ES (or estrong) file explorer is good also. SUFBS cost a buck or 2 but I think it is worth it. Either way your phone needs to be rooted for this. You do have root right?
Yeah, phone is rooted. I tried ES Strong Explorer but cannot work, it says something about permission or something like that..

I'm not sure if it's a "hero thing" but sometimes the file extensions in the ringtones folder are not .mp3. They are .ogg. If you look into the folder and see .ogg files just change the extension and you'll be all good.
As for the apps. Look for "Root Explorer". I believe there are both free and paid options. The paid one isn't very much $$ so, considering how much easier it makes things, give up the loot and support a dev.
I tried searching under market, but cant find it..
id use terminal with cmds, would be a tad faster and a bit more reliable, in my opinion, but as of searching on your behalf i have found root explorer a paid version and estrongs free version by searching "root" while in the market. estrongs sounds unstable. If your going to pay for a good file explorer get SU file manager&terminal. (and...SAA?ror)
How do I use terminals? I tried but that say permission thingy..
Did you mount the system?
OK dude. If you're rooted I assume you have somebody's recovery. Boot to recovery and go into console (Alt+x). Now do this.
<enter>
mount /system <enter> (maybe mount /system/media if just /system doesn't work)
mount /sdcard <enter>
cp /sdcard/yourfolder/yourringtone.mp3 /system/media/audio/ringtones <enter>
reboot
You should be good to go.
Can I do that in terminal? As in one of the application in my HTC Dream?

Can separate apps be moved between SD and system?

I was wondering something, and couldn't find it through search.
If I run into performance issues with certain apps, can I move just those apps back to the system, or would I have to move all of the apps from the SD back to the system?

The way a symlink works (apps2sd) you would have to move the whole application folder back.
If you are having performance issues, invest in a class 6 card. Which is supposedly faster than the internal storage.
ok Thanks for the info. ^^
Actually, that depends on what ROM you are running. With DarchDroid 2.6.2, I know for certain (cause I did it this morning) that you can choose where you want an app installed. You go into manage applications, click on the app you want to move, and scroll down a bit. You will come to a box that has info about how much memeory the app is taking up and were it is stored. There is also a button that says "move". Clicking takes the app from were it is (either internal storage, or sd storage) and moves it to the other. I don't know if any other roms have this option.
Is it possible to put an app into the main system app folder? Those apps aren't moved to the SD card.

Not sure if this answers your question exactly, but you can install apps into your /system/app folder by using adb.
Open a Windows command prompt, navigate to your android-sdk-windows/tools folder, then use the 'adb push' command:
Code:
adb push Filename.apk /system/app

Keep in mind when you do this, you will have to also uninstall it the same way.
/system/app/ is internal storage
/data/app/ is external storage
you can do a ls in the directory to see where it actually is
the move command would be
Code:
mv /system/app/<name of apk> /system/sd/app/<name of apk>
or
Code:
mv /system/app/<name of apk> /data/app/<name of apk>
as the symlinks should put it to /system/sd/app

If I do that second move command, does that put it on my hard drive in the android-sdk-windows\tools\ folder? Or, does it put it on the sd card? Sorry, I'm a newb.
I want to copy my htclockscreen.apk file to the android-sdk-windows\tools\ folder on my C:\ drive so I can open it up and make changes to the png files that create the slide bar on the lock screen... see my post on creating a custom lock screen under Q & A. Newb restrictions won't let me post the link yet.
Thanks!

the command you want is
Code:

that will copy it out of /system/app and put it in your tools folder.

How to create the ".nomedia" file....

I might be missing something really obvious here, but how are you supposed to create the .nomedia file so that the music player won't see files from system folders? I have a whole bunch of mp3's appearing in my music player because of Real Football 2010. If I try and create the file on Windows 7, it says "You must type a filename". Any help?

Open notepad, rename file ".nomedia" and change the file type from txt to "all files". Try again, report back.
rename it on the phone
Easier way is to create a folder directly inside the one that has the music files (did this on letsgolf it has tons of sounds) just tap create folder and name it .nomedia works for me.
Creating .nomedia folder in windows 7 solution
1. Goto command prompt : Run->cmd
2. Goto your flash drive e.g. F:
3. Goto you desire folder e.g. CD gameloft
4. type "copy con .nomedia" and press enter
5. press F6 and press enter.
This will create the .nomedia file in windows.
Old thread but here is a no Computer needed option:
Download ES File explorer (its free)
Install and open it
Navigate to the folder you want to exclude (remember it propagates down e.g. if you place it in the root of SD then the whole of SD is excluded including all the sub-folders)
Press Menu and select "new"
Select "File"
Call it .nomedia
Rescan your memory Cards
Sorted no PC required
thanks all above

Does creating a .nomedia file in a folder also stops it from scanning lower folders?
Ex.
\Mystuff
\Mystuff\lotsofstuff
\Mystuff\lotsofstuff\pics
Will putting it in \Mystuff stop it from scanning the lower folders?

You can open notepad via Windows->notepad and ctrl+S to save it (with blank content), in the "File name" field, you type ".nomedia" and in the "save as Type" field, you chose "All files (*.*))"
Good luck!:good:
No need to create file or using an application
You don't need to find a way to create that file. Connect your mobile to pc by USB and browse in your sdcard. Enable show hidden or system files from your operating systems file explorer. Find a .nomedia file and copy it to the new location you want. This is more practical. Also if you have a root explorer on your Android, you don't even need a pc.

Another way doing this (imo the best):

[Q] How do I remove/hide Let's Golf audio files?

As the title ask's, does anyone know how to keep these from playing in the music app. I know I can not delete the sound files or the game will not play (already tried ), but jogging and at work is getting a little annoying when every other song on shuffle is a golf wave lol. Windows won't let you create a file with no name, only extension. It doesn't mean anything for Android, which is Linux and operates with such files. Create the file on the phone with the following command in Terminal Emulator:
echo "" > .nomedia
Move the file to the right place using Windows, if you want.

Check that you did it correctly, and reboot. There is no other way, and this one works - if it doesn't for you, you're most probably doing something wrong.
Will try the emulator method.. thanks
If you're doing it in Windows, open a command prompt to rename the file.
rename <filename> .nomedia
You might already have a .nomedia file in some of your directories already. Using Astro you can copy them to the Golf folder.
However if you don't and you have Windows, create a blank text file on your memory card in the Golf folder and call it nomedia.txt, then when you put it back in your phone use Astro to rename it to .nomedia
Both methods need an SD Card memount for the media software to scan, so either plug the USB in and select Mound then Unmount or reboot the phone.

Can't get apk's to install?

I got my NC rooted (I think LOL) I went through the root process and everything looks fine but now i'm trying to install some apk's and I cant get it to work. I want to install root explorer so I pulled the apk from my Htc Evo and put it in a folder on my desktop. Then in cmd I type

adb kill-server
adb devices
I get my device listed so then I type (before the cursor it says C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools>)
adb install C:\documents and settings\owner\desktop\apks\root explorer 2.12.4.apk"
and I get a message that says "can't find 'explorer 2.12.4.apk' to install
I am stuck I don't know what to do. Please help me!!

If cmd is like Linux you have to put \ before spaces like root\ explorer\ 2.12.4.apk
its definitely related to where the apk is located or the file name.
Try putting quotes around the path such as....
adb install "c:\docume...."
If that doesn't work then create a folder on your c:\ called apk then move the file over to that folder and rename the .apk file to something without spaces.
Good luck!
So I am at the correct path? What EXACTLY do you type after you open the cmd? Can you just open the cmd and start installing apps or do you have to navigate to android-sdk-windows...
What do I need to type from the time I open cmd?
