Maybe you guys can help me, because the P30 Pro is driving me nuts. How on earth do I get it to stop saving power?! If I wanted a phone that only does single tasking and isn't able to do anything in the background, I'd get a Nokia 3210.
For example: I'm listening to music in the car. Then I pause the music playback via my in car controls. After a few minutes I want to continue, so I press play. What happens? Nothing. The music app stopped running, because Huawei thought it is absolutely necessary to achieve 2 days of battery life. Here's a trick for you if you want to achieve that: Turn off the phone! I'd rather have half a day than something that is this useless. It gets worse. I use an app to warn me about speed cameras. Well, it doesn't work on the P30 Pro. Because even when I go to the settings and go to the app, then details about battery usage, and then tell it to continue running in the background... the app doesn't get any GPS information in the background. Which is bad enough to begin with. It NEEDS to run in the foreground. As soon as it is in the background... IF it even keeps running, because it usually doesn't, despite me telling it to... no GPS, no function. I'm also using a GPS Logger for my photography. Guess what: Doesn't work on the P30 Pro. Because the app just won't run in the background. I've even set the phone to the power mode. Jup, doesn't help.
What. The. Hell.
How can anyone live with this sort of insane "optimization"? If Huawei had ONE place where we can RELIABLY tell it which apps to keep running in the background, and maybe a setting where it just doesn't optimize at all, then great. But this...?
Edit:
Ok, so I did find ANOTHER setting, well hidden, under Apps, then Apps, then the three dots, special access, battery optimization, then select all apps. And THEN are you able to AGAIN tell it not to optimize. Why is this so hidden? And why aren't users, like, warned? Normally, you can reasonably expect your apps to run in the background. And you can rely on it. If the phone does not want to behave that way, tell me. Then I can say if I want this behavior or not.
Ok, some more testing, and... some apps just won't keep running in the background. They just won't. Any ideas? They work on other phones. I've never had a phone they didn't. But the P30 Pro... no chance. Screen goes off or I go to a different app... and goodbye.
you can read it here, its for mate20pro, but it works for p30 aswell
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-20-pro/themes/remove-powergenie-to-allow-background-t3890409
Cool, thank you.
I did try a bit further, and without changing anything else, it looks like after a couple of restarts and some more attempts of running the apps in the background, the phone is starting to behave. Still no final verdict, but it's getting better. If it's still too annoying, I'll try the Power Genie thing.
Disabling Power genie has finally fixed my Softphone problem. it finally keeps running in the background to receive my business numbers.

I seem to have been bitten by whatever it is that's causing Note 8s to freeze. In my case, it seems to freeze when idle - case closed, always-on display showing a clock. Sometimes the digital clock - just stopped; the last time, the analog clock with the second hand ticking, but an otherwise unresponsive phone.
It seems like this is happening to other people, in a variety of other applications - and the only advice anybody is giving is to see what happens in safe mode, then uninstall applications one-by-one. All of which seems rather time-consuming, and counter-intuitive -- if a single App is freezing the system, that suggests on o/s or hardware issue -- the o/s should be isolating the rest of the system from app misbehavior.
Which leads me to wonder how one might track down what's actually going on. If this were one of our servers, I'd crank up logging and look at crash logs. But... those options don't seem to be available without rooting the phone. (Why does Google insist on making syslogs unreadable by normal users - that puts a big crimp in the ability to do any kind of real trouble diagnosis.)
Any suggestions on how to do crash analysis? Any tools that someone can recommend?
Any insight on the matter?
I have not had this problem, so I would not know how to tackle all down to pinpoint the exact culprit, but I would start by controling what apps I dont want to run in background, in maintenance>battery>always sleeping, I put all the apps I dont need to be in always running state, I would also try to unistall or freeze apps I installed just before the problem began, if you have bk disabler this is a rather easy process, as you can batch-disable/enable apps, in the end it is a trial-error exercise
You can use logcat extreme, Catlog or somthing similiar from playstore. But you need some knowless to see wat happend and root. Perhaps you can pull the log file without root to your computer with ADB.
Sounds like impending motherboard failure. My wife's S7 Edge started doing the same thing then one day it just wouldn't start up at all.
Common thing for Samsung phones unfortunately .... and if you're out of warranty they won't repair without a charge.
Not sure if this is permitted by the mods, but let's make a list of issues and bugs you experience on your P30 Pro. It's a fantastic device, but every now and then I run into, or hear about some stupid issue that impacts the overall experience, but probably could be fixed if reported.
Two of my biggest issues right now:
screen gets unresponsive at times in the bottom left corner
sometimes when I pull down WhatsApp notifications, if there are more of them they get stuck on the screen and won't pull back up, not even using the back key, only swiping them one by one gets them off the screen
My only issue: Having to pay to a rip off like FunkyHuawei to get my official updates!

I followed the instructions in the link to the thread below to get the latest updates.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...orial-vog-l29-flash-firmware-153-usb-t3928793
Ghost vibrations.. I have turned off vibrations now since it does vibrate without getting notifications like once or twice/hour or 2...
Updates from Huawei seem very staggered, seem to mainly be looking after their own country who seem to be about 3 firmware’s ahead of a lot of other places. i know a lot are getting v153 now but why are a lot going straight from 124 to 153 yet some places got fw's in-between in the 140's? i am currently on 124 and my provider EE in the uk say they still haven’t received any newer fw from Huawei since v124.
Issues with screen response, sometimes i have to tap home button a couple of times for it to register, same with some notifications when i unlock the screen, having to tap them a few times.
The software is really rubbish compared to Samsung, i have only just come over to Huawei from Samsung, i had an s8 and it had not long got One Ui, and that genuinely felt more developed, faster and smoother on my s8 that one this p30 pro.
There’s been a couple of times i have contacted the Huawei chat on the Hicare app and they are really funny cause whatever i tell them my issue is they seem to always want me to completely reset my device.
I keep getting really annoying gray bubble pop up notifications telling me apps have been blocked from showing their dropzone and other notifications similar that i know has happened, like sound has been changed etc, not sure how to turn them off cause i don't need them to keep telling me.
I don't understand why Huawei would release a flagship phone and not have the software just feel complete and nice because at the end of the day it’s that which you pretty much judge the phone on.
I guess i also don't like that there seems to be too many settings to change and turn off to make the phone useable, that’s why doing a flash that wipes the phone is really putting me off doing that and using the method that’s being used at the moment to update to 153 via the OTG method.
The screen auto brightness bug that’s not a bug according to huawei and is a feature? The fact that every time i restart my phone i turn auto brightness off and then it comes back on every restart! It really makes me laugh that they think forcing you to have to do that every time you restart is a good feature to have. They say it saves power so it good, yes if you leave it on! i was talking to them and said well the slider is there to have auto on or not so if people wanted it on, they would leave it on would they not? It’s not the biggest issue in the world but it’s fun arguing with them about it, it does annoy me though lol
My issue is simple, EMUI.
Coming from an S10 and oneUI and mix 3 with miui made me realize how bad EMUI is in everything, cloning iOS, native apps like dialer gallery calendar, missed up setrings, Crippled animations (this is a huge one) and notifications. Stupid decissions like launching the camera with volume down. Many many things
I just wish Huawei support at least native Android interface, animations and gestures
Hello,
I have P30 Pro L29 Global
256GB with 8GB of RAM
Update 9.1.0.140
My issue previouly was huge battery drain which makes no sense for p30 pro to run out of battery at 7pm (100% at 7.00am) for moderate usage.
So I have tried clearing cache partition and factory reset several times to find out the culprit. It seems the battery drain stops when I factory reset and did not restore anything from HiSuite (I start fresh).
Setting > Battery > Usage
What I noticed was that the battery drain seems to happen when "Phone Services" at 34% usage. Initially I thought it was normal but after comparing with the p30 pro's of my colleague, her "Phone Services" always lower than 2% usage.
The main culprit that i suspected was Carrier Services which I didn't update till this day in playstore.
I also stop the Carrier Services in Developer mode 1 time.
Until now my battery life is superb. Lasting me 30 hours of moderate usage (still have 37%) at the time I recharge.

- Firmware updates are messed up, they need to fix this
- Annoying beeps without any notification icon
- Memory management is way to agressive (softphones like skype keep missing calls)
- Native android options are missing
- Response to back button or home button is sometimes not working only after after pressing it multiple times it works.
All above can easily be fixed, the real question is will they fix it ?
Issues i have is that sometimes when i m fast typing a message the keyboard disappeared(i m using gestures, I don't know if this is the case) and the AOD with smart view flip case issue. Other than that i have zero issues, extreme great battery life 2 full days with normal use(facebook ,instagram ,mail ,chatting, light gaming e.t.c.) and 35% left or 1+ day heavy usage. I m coming from p20 pro and yes at the beginning i was very fraustrating with emui and how it works, but after learned and used to it, i loved it(it should be smoother though). My major complain is the lack of notification led, I missed it soooo much.
I have the P30 Pro, VOG-AL10, 8GB/512GB model; gifted from a friend
I have a couple annoyances
1) My biggest problem (along with any other mainland Android phone I've owned) is there is no way to force full encryption. You can only add stuff to the "safe."
2) My second annoyance is the aggressive power management. I've done a lot of my own tweaking so it doesn't force close my Cisco AnyConnect client for example. I use LastPass for password management and for whatever reason, whenever I re-open the app it requires I use my 2FA again even when I choose remember for 30 days. I don't know if this is a LastPass problem or what. The only way to keep it from resetting is to keep it active in my open apps.
3) Even though I use Chrome as the default browser, for certain tasks (like using a WiFi hotspot that requires registration), it will still open in the default browser which you need to accept their TOS to use...
4) I use SwiftKeys as my default keyboard. I have the Huawei IME unchecked. I use the phone, after a while the Huawei IME will get enabled again.
The BIGGEST issue I am facing is the lack of the Camera2.API implementation with the p30 pro

Even doing that you can render certain features unusable since they aren't certified so saftey net fails meaning some games, banking apps and g pay won't work. I've reset using the USB method mentioned and have everything back to normal. Just going to be patient instead of blowing cash and wrecking stuff.

I think aperture mode is rubbish. Really poor quality, unless anyone has any suggestion to improve it. However just standard photos of objects seems to have fairly decent bokeh by default so use that as a kind of object portrait mode.

Android Auto doesn't work most of the time, and when it does, it stops working after a couple of minutes.
1) No Bootloader unlock
2) No way to set Alarm tone Globally
3) Missing an option to install firmware manually
4) Change volume without preview sound
5) Some basic apps are not system apps and when uninstalling them having no way of getting them back (not available on PlayStore, AppStore)
Im on 9.1.0.131 firmware.
My problems are:
1. Phone sometimes vibrates without any notification icon
2. Proximity sensor doesn't work sometimes during phone calls. The screen is lit up the whole time Im on my phone
3. The slow motion videos at higher fps are of ****ty quality
4. Opening up the apps from notifications panel doesn't response sometimes and the respective app doesn't open up
Though I dont have any issues like other mentioned like battery draining, heating up etc
My widgets are very slow to update. It may take him a half hour or longer to update. I have checked battery optimization is not on for those apps, although one of those two apps that I have the problem with background data is grayed out. So I can't turn on allow background data. Not sure why that would be great out.
Any thoughts?
Wunderlist Task List.
DTG/GTD
But, I did some things poking around, don't remember for sure what all, but I had read that changing the Animation Scale etc to .5 would help. I did change that.
Before posting, I had found that Wunderlist was on battery optimization. Changing it didn't appear to help, so I posted. But now, it seems to be working. Maybe it's fixed. I'll post back in a day or two and indicate if it is still working or has stopped again.
Well, no, I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that's the only change I made, and at that point it had started working.
Are you having same problem, albeit different widgets?
FYI... mine is now not working again. I'm not surprised. But am frustrated.
Update...
I am finding that it does eventually update. It feels like the phone has been taken over by something. But, then, other things don't seem slow.
I just installed Gsam battery monitor, and ran the ADB cmds to try to identify apps using battery. Maybe I'll find something using a lot of battery and hence cycles.
My battery does seem to be going down quite a bit faster than it should.
It cleared up for a while after a factory reset,But it's back, and, I find that notifications from Lightflow come in 30 minutes after recieved.
It's like the phone is operating in molasses.
I'm beginning to think this phone is crap. If I switch back to my old Mate 9 it works fine.

certain apps aren't syncing well with pie. i had this same issue with Beautiful widgets, could not get the weather or time to update unless i manually updated it.
Under <Problem APP's> App Info > Battery
1.A Make sure the app is allowed background activity
1.B Make sure the app is not set to "optimized"
. (note: by default, the optimized list will only show apps that HAVEN'T been optimized, . you have to select "ALL" at the top to see all apps.)
Under <Problem APP's> App Info > Mobile Data
2.A Make sure "allow background data usage" is enabled.
2.B Make sure "allow app while data saver is on" if you have data saver enabled.
. (enable this if you want to be sure an app will receive background data.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't seem to be having any luck with that. Had already done those.
But!! ...
I just found a post after doing a global search for another issue I am having that seems to coincide with the widget issues, which is, Play Store freezing during updates. The post was in a Xaiomi forum. He said that he found if he had blue tooth on, his play store would constantly freeze. He turned off BT, and rebooted, and it worked.
I just did the same thing...and it is working...both the play store, and widget updates.
Interesting to have the great feeling of success, along with the frustration of a new (newly realized) issue yet remaining (BT).
Looking for a little further and through the settings on Bluetooth, I turned off Bluetooth scan. Now at first I would still have problems with Bluetooth on even though Bluetooth to scan was off. That of course would be very quickly after turning it on or off at cetera.
so this morning I get up having left Bluetooth on all night, with scan off, and everything's working fine. I did find last night that when I would first turn Bluetooth on even with skin off, the problems would be there. But of course when you first turn Bluetooth on it's going to scan anyway.
so I will update this thread little later after I see a little more about weather. Just having scan off actually cures the problem, in case someone else runs into this and it helps them.
Basically since the introduction of emui 9, I have add the issue that the google news feed (swipe left at home screen) will close while scrolling down the article list, or whilst reading an article.
With version 9, it was often enough to be annoying, but not so terrible that I avoided to use it.
With EMUI 10, I normally avoid to look at the google feed at all since I know it will just close at any time.
It could be after 1 minute, or 30 seconds. However, it will always close at some point. I have set every google app to manual manage in the battery app.
Does anyone else have an issue with this crap box phone just randomly decided to close an app? Any idea how to prevent it?
At the moment It is hard to overstate how much I hate this phone.
I have the same problem. It started happening after the update to EMUI 10...
I noticed today, it also does it with the google store.
My god what a crap phone. I don't understand how Huawei was able to make something as good as the nexus 6P and then come up with ****-show EMUI at the same time. Had I not dropped my already cracked phone into water, thus killing it, I would just go back to the old nexus until December when it's time for a new contract.
I cannot imagine any situation where I would ever consider to another Huawei product.

So I am aware that this reply comes almost a year later, but this problem had me searching the entire web for months, only for me to give up. I have a Huawei Y9 (2019) with EMUI 9.1 that did the same. So the obvious solution i tried was to go to settings->apps->google and clear data and clear cache. This temporarily fixed it for a few hours before going back to the same crashing issue. I even tried turning the gestures on and off but that did not help either. Now I had a lot of documents , high resolution images and videos in my phone which occupied almost 88% of my 64gb of internal storage. So I recently decided to back up my data to an external hard drive and removed a lot of the large files from my phone, dropping my occupied storage to about 78% and the very next moment, google feed stopped crashing at all. There were no recent updates and no other changes were made to the phone except freeing up some space. I guess its functionality requires a good amount of free space?
So Im not sure if this will work for anyone else. But it did for me. And so I just want to reply here in case someone else is still facing the exact same problem or still uses their old Huawei. Try freeing up some storage space in your phone if it is full well above 85%. Try dropping it down to 80% or below and hopefully it will fix the issue if nothing else did.
Hey All.
I have always used AOD as a night clock whilst its charging vertically.
But with this phone the AOD always goes off after about an hour.
Which sort of defeats the point of the feature really.
the setting is set to ALLDAY aswell.
is this a fault or is this how it is with phone.

I hear you. Best to ignore the phone and sleep.
Always being "connected" detrimental to your wellbeing. Quiet time is very underrated.
Lots of power management settings scattered throughout the phone, usually.
Check to see if global power management is running first: Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active. It can't be disabled here though.
Check each apk being used for AOD. Make sure they have needed permissions and that battery saving isn't checked.
Disable any power management including Android, 3rd party, carrier or manufacturer ones.
Try in Safe mode.
Clear system cache and AOD data.
Make sure screen lock isn't interfering with AOD.
With a factory reset even if it works the issue will likely reoccur. Exception is if a 3rd party app altered user hidden settings, this can and does occasionally happen with poorly written apps. Sometimes only after you uninstall them
Play with it, find the root cause... fun isn't it?

Feels good when you track it down.
I've tracked (and caused, oops) a few bizarre ones down
Stock Androids are generally very robust platforms.
Lately I have had a Oneplus 9, Oneplus 9 Pro and a Oneplus 10 Pro. In all of them, from Android version 12 (it also happens in 13), what is said here happens (AOD turns off at night even if it is programmed so that it is always active).
From what I see here, either it is a bug that has been introduced since the Oneplus and Oppo software were unified, or it is a crap that Google has put in Android since version 12 that there is no way to fix Because I've been trying things for a long time and reading in forums and websites and no solution to this problem is found anywhere.
For those of us who use our mobile phones as a nightstand clock, it is a great disappointment.

Welcome to XDA.
Tap on works fine for me and uses less battery. Constantly looking at the time when you should be sleeping is counterproductive and a bad habit to get into. For me the novelty wore off after about a year as I find it now annoying.
It's the same on OnePlus 8T, Oxygen OS 13. At least after midnight, maybe earlier, the screen turns black with AOD always on after roughly 25-30 minutes if non use. Double tap or more activates it again.
It's broken for people who is working nights and/or is awake and active after midnight.
There's gotta be a setting fixing this through root or adb shell.
