I have an X8 which I have not used since 2014. I thought by installing an Android 4.4 custom rom that I would be able to install newer apps but I have tried numerous apks which wont install. The custom rom has an old version of play store which wont download anything, I tried updating it with a newer version but just get the message that the app is already installed. I also tried installing some apks with flashtool and for some get the message "install failed older sdk". Is the phone just too old to work with any reasonably modern app versions?

Hello All,
I used to be on RoDrIgUeZsTyLe MUIU rom and bunch of other custom roms. Every rom has its ones pros and cons but were not very stable. So, I thought I will go back to stock. So, I flash stock rom and stock recovery and received OTA update and installed the updates. Now my phone is on the below version.
Android Version 2.2.1
Build Number - FRG83D
Market Version - 2.12
Baseband Version - 32.26.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
I was able to successfully download and install many apps but whenever I try to download YouTube I always get "Installation of Youtube unsuccessfull" message. Also, I researched and saw that some people in Europe on Vodafone rom are having this issue. How do I know if my android version is totally stock?
Do you guys have any ideas on how I can successfully install this app without having to root my phone again? I would like to stay stock and unrooted if possible.
Thanks.
use titanium or manually uninstall the current youtube app, reboot then try to install again. Its because its a system app currently. youll probably have to do the same for car home, street view and a few others
I am un rooted, so I won't be able to use titanium. how do I uninstall manually though? I didn't have any issues installing other apps like street view etc.
Make sure the app is installed on your phone, and unmount the SD before updating...

I tried un mounting SD card and installing and still that didn't work. Thanks for trying to help though.
Try uninstalling the old version of YouTube first.

....if you do not have root access how were you flashing an miui rom?
I was getting the exact same thing as you were, all you need to do is remove the old youtube app
good luck
Thanks for the responses. Like I said in my post I was rooted before but un rooted and went to complete stock 2.2.1. I know uninstalling youtube would resolve this issue but I am trying to find a way to uninstall the app without being rooted.

Recently bought my wife a droid on Ebay, it is not rooted and functions fine with 1 exception it will not update to current software
Firmware 2.0
Kernel 2.6.29
Build # ESD20
My wife would like to down load certain apps but she is stuck with Android MArket and they are only offered on Google Playstore, any way I can force an update or install it myself? When I check the phone says it is up to date, My sone has a droid as well and it is current.

You need android 2.2 or above to use the playstore. The Droid has gotten officially updates up to 2.2.3, so I'm surprised it says your phone is up to date. If you are not able to get the OTA, you can download the update (2.2.3) from here: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/11/21/download-frk76-update-for-the-original-motorola-droid/ or another option is to install a custom rom.
It Does Not Appear in 2.2.3 Either
I just got a Motorola Droid to play with. After resetting and updating it, I was expecting to find a notification for the Play Store, but there wasn't any. I looked through the Google Market on the phone to see if the Play Store was in the Market, but it wasn't.
I downloaded the update and renamed it update.zip booted to recovery did a factory and cache wipe then selected install update.zip from sd card but it failed to open no such file, so i rebooted used astro file manager and I see it plain as day, what am i doing wrong
Hi!
Does anybody know if it would be possible to install the 'settings.apk' from any android ROM to the Gear using a stock ROM?
I've seen some custom ROMs have already included it (like Null ROM) but I don't really need a full custom ROM for the moment, just that little piece of software... So, would it be possible to take the deodexed apk file from one of those and install it directly to the Gear?
I tried this naive idea and extracted the .apk from the Null ROM, I tried to install it using ADB but unfortunately it didn't work (I would had been so lucky :silly: ). I got this message:
Code:
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_SHARED_USER_INCOMPATIBLE]
I hope there's some easy way to achieve this :fingers-crossed:
Thank you!
The stock gear rom is a stripped down version of the samsung TW 4.2.2 rom, which has a lot of the dependencies in the setting removed already. If you tried to install any settings.apk, it will not work as it cannot find the dependencies that is required to run.
If you want to get into a new stock rom without pairing first, there is a way to do that. You will need to install the mk7 stock rom (via odin), and then install twrp recovery (via odin), then go into twrp recovery, mount system folder, then delete the secsetupwizard.apk, reboot, then you are at the clock, and can go into settings.
So, mk7 stock ROM is the stripped down version TW 4.2.2 ROM used in our Galaxy Gear by default, right?
Following your instructions I would get the stock ROM, a custom recovery and I would skip the initial pairing with mobile configuration but I wouldn't get the full settings application.
From what I have understood, the only way to get full settings in our watch is by installing a full custom ROM, right?
Thanks for answering quickly
yup, thats my understanding.
Then I suppose I'll have to consider that
You won't regret it. I am running null_23 now. With everything installed, I am getting about 3-4 days battery life. Though I am just using it as a notification unit, no internet(I find it too slow on the watch), no phone calls, and maybe some spy pictures , but to me I think this little watch is perfect for my needs.
Good luck.
I'll give it a try.
Btw, are you using Gear Manager for the notifications? I've noticed some trouble having installed apps on stock ROM and using Gear Manager on its lastest version (apps kept disappearing from the launcher, although were still installed).
Right now I am using ATN manager for notifications. Yes The latest gear manager does sort of "uninstall" the 3rd party apps. I have read in one of the other threads here that earlier versions of GM does not do this. So you may want to download one of the earlier GM versions and give it a try.
I rooted my phone using KingRoot. but when I try SuperSu Me it takes KingRoot away however despite using the updated google play store SuperSU from chainfire it can't update the binaries at all. One time it said there wasn't any installed and couldn't install any. I haven't unlocked my boot loader or recovery because I don't have a computer. Any help?
Edit: I'm running stock 4.4.2 using the latest Google play store version.
I have tried to use both update methods, despite not having a custom recovery. When using the normal method I just get installation failed and an okay an a reboot option. Ive tried rebooting but it doesn't help. I can't seem to use supersu me to transfer root control to super su. I also DO have Xposed installed but Im not sure if that's the cause. I do regularly use it. I may try to uninstall and I'll post an update on that.
A while back i rooted my Samsung s 3 mini (GT-l18190N) and now i'm trying to unroot it and update the firmware (or android version, idk how you call it). I got the device unrooted, however in device status it says that its "Custom" and when i try to update the android using OTA, it says "Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available". I downloaded Kies and it says that i have the latest version. My androin version currently is 4.1.2.
I also did a factory reset which didn't seem to help.
I'm trying to get snapchat on the phone (as far as i know snapchat doesn't work on rooted phones), i got downloaded snapchat from play store and it works, but it seems to be an older version, i have no "Memories" on it, and the gui is old aswell. I need a snapchat version that has memories. Also some apps on play store say that the device is not supported or something like that.
