WIFI connection issue - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hi my Redmi k20 pro keeps connecting and disconnecting frequently . Is anyone facing the same issue?

no i dont, but i miss the feature to off wifi when screen off.

Mine is ok

Mine is good as well, maybe an update could fix it if your aren't updated already.
You could also switch to miui eu rom, hopefully that will fix it.
Also other phones connected on the same wifi don't have this issue?

Mine seems to have the same issue. I used an app "connection stabilizer booster" from play store and that keeps it alive.

Yup same issues... Constant dead wifi, constant drop offs, can't fix it. Driving me nuts.

I think I have the same issue.

I have the exact same issue and it's infuriating. I have a feeling it's down to the Chinese ROM. A couple years back, I had a phone with a Chinese ROM which had the same problem. Although I don't really know. If anyone can identify the problem or even provide a solution that would be great.

Hey. I got the app but the problem seems to still be there. What did you do in the app to resolve the issue?

The problem came back unfortunately . On further research the issue is mainly because this phone has a piss poor wifi 5 GHz connectivity. I am thinking of switching to oneplus7 pro because wifi is a mess

I was already thinking my device was broken or my wifi extenders incorrectly configured... Good to hear other people having the same problem. My WiFi speed sometimes drops and I have to switch it off and on to resolve it. I'll set my Router and the two extenders to 2,4 GhZ and report back.
Alright, that fixed my connection issues. I previously had my WiFi set to the same name in 2.4 GHz and 5GHz. I switched it to a different name for the bands and used the K20pro in 2.4 GHz only.
No dropping connections any more.

Hi i am also facing this issue. Anybody got a solution.?

1- are your phones up to dates with latest official chines ROM (not beta or global rom)? (rooted or not?)
2- did you checked with another WiFi modems?

could you please explain how you used k20 pro in 2.4ghz only?

Hey, u might have gotten me wrong.
My Netgear Router and two extenders where configured to sending a WiFi network on both frequencies at the same time with the same key and the same SSID.
I reconfigured the router and the extenders to sending with a different SSID on 5GHz and never entered that password into the K20pro. Now it's only able to connect to the 2.4 GHz networks.

I immediately replaced the shoprom with xiaomi.eu. Haven't flashed anything else, only their OTAs.
I believe since they are based on chinese beta they would include a new modem partition but I'm not sure.

Yes to all your questions. And Device is not rooted .
This is a hardware issue and cannot be resolved .

So the only thing to be done here is get a replacement and hope that device doesnt have the same hardware issue?

This seemed to fix the 5GHz connection problem for me:
On router settings:
Changed encryption to AES only
Changed channel to 100/80

Problem solved
I had same issue...but it is very easy to solve.just change ur region to usa...my region was india then i changed it to usa.. now using 5g network without any issue...???

[Q] Can't Connect to 2.4Ghz networks

Hi Friends,
I've been experiencing some really weird behaviour on my Moto X 1st gen.
My Phone is not Rooted, not flashed... It's all stock running the latest software (Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat) for a while.
Recently I've noticed my Phone stopped connecting to my Wifi Network. It can search for networks and find them, but as soon as I try to connect It to the networks, they become out of range on the list or simply "Saved" and not connected. The Networks WONT connect at all... never ever.
Doing some tests tho, I noticed that my Moto X fails to connect to all 2.4Ghz Networks... It can only connect to 5Ghz ones. I can't figure out why. Tried Clearing Cache Partition, Data Wipe from inside Android and from Bootloader menu... all with no success.
What I come here to ask is: Are there 2 Wifi Radios on the Phone, one of 2,4Ghz frequency and one 5Ghz Frequency? Are there Two antennas and maybe one of them got broken? Do you guys think that re-flashing a Radio Firmware may fix the problem?
Many Wifi Networks run under the 2.4Ghz band. So It is quite important to me to have It working.
I'm asking if I should bother trying because Flashing Radios and Kernels has It's risks, and this phone is my Daily Driver, so I come to you for help or new ideas on how to solve It.
Thanks in advance.
Look in the advanced Wifi settings (three dot menu at lower right when in the network list) and see if the frequency band is set to Auto. If it is set to 5ghz. Putting it on Auto is probably your best bet.

I checked every configuration... I even discovered that the phone doesnt connect specifically to 2.4Ghz networks by switching It first to 2.4Ghz-Only to filter the 5Ghz Networks out and see that no Network connected and then I switched to 5Ghz to check and see that 5Ghz networks do work.
My guess is that Radio Firmware got this strange behaviour after I installed Netgear WiFi Network Analytics App(It started happening after that, afterall)... It might have changed some configuration on the Firmware that I do not have access through the System UI, and is not OS-wise, because not even factory reset worked to fi this... so Only thing that I didnt try yet was a Radio Re-Flash.
Maybe I'll just try It. Or my WiFI Radio just broke.
Hey just replaced my Netgear R6300 with the Netgear R7000 and I am running into the same issue.
My Moto X and my Razr Maxx HD have the same issue seeing the 2.4Ghz, but see the 5Ghz just fine.
All other devices in the household see the 2.4Ghz fine, it just seem's to be the phone's.
Any ideas? I tried two different R7000, and working with Netgear, but no dice.
It's not a biggy, as I have verified it only impact's the phones, and I can set them to 5Ghz anyways.
I was just wondering if anybody has seen this too.
Very odd that it's two different devices. Are you certain that the network is using both bands?
I have the identical problem described in this thread.
Only difference not yet noted is that maybe 1 time out of 50 it will connect to the 2.4ghz network, and stay connected for a few hours. Then it will go back to not working at all for days, weeks.
I've been trying to fix this for months. More than a few people seem to be having the same problem. I've tried every combination of router/phone setting imaginable. Don't think there's an easy fix to this other than new phone or new router.
Have the same problem, 5ghz works fine but 2.4ghz don't works for weeks. it started this spring. Anybody fond something that helps?

Update: I've recently been in deep on this problem with Motorola technical support. Several hours on the phone with them, explaining the issue over and over, bug reports, email exchanges, etc etc etc. Tier 4.
At the end of the day, company policy rules and they wont look after me because my phone is outside of the 1 year warranty. I'm still paying for this phone on contract. Not cool. They won't see another dime from me!
I have the same issue on my Moto X XT1097 Lollipop 5.1

May I know how do you set your phone to connect only on 2.4Ghz?
On my old phone (Nexus 5X) in Marshmallow (not Nougat) I could disable 5Ghz on the phone. I can't find this in my P9, Marshmallow C636B180

Ah....you had my heart aflutter for just a moment. Unfortunately my issue is with work wifi, set by corporate IT.
Due to the multiple hotspots @ 5Ghz @ same SSID it just drives the phone crazy. This is especially worse when you have wifi based location switched on.

Sorry man
I can feel your pain. But its really weird that the 5Ghz is such a battery drainer? I just dont understand that. I read something about the similar problems you experiencing at work. If im not mistaked the solution was to set up some kind of wifi hotspot. Cant seem to find the website again tho.

5.0Ghz wifi not showing after pie update.

So I bought note 9 two days ago and it was on Samsung experience 9.5, oreo 8.1. I have a dual band D link router which has both 5.0Ghz and 2.4Ghz wifi. But after pie update the phone is not picking the 5ghz band at all. I have reset the phone clear cache and also changed router settings.
I think its a software problem of one ui. Is any one facing this issue? Anying I can do to get back 5.0Ghz?
Any suggestion will be appreciated.
Not sure what is causing your problem, don't think it's anything to do with Pie update.
I have been using Pie for months and use 5Ghz wi fi without issues.
Also haven't read of others having similar issues on this forum .
Have you tried wi fi analyser app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
Tried with app and still nothing. I have reset the phone, cleared cache and still nothing. Mine is a exynos model and it's update handled by Malaysian samsung team.
After One ui pie I don't even see 4k 60 fps recording in rear camera option. It's an awful update. So many things are missing. They need to work on one ui.

I have had a similar problem before and since the Pie update. I use 5 ghz band in the same room as my router. 2 Apple devices and my LGV20 are connected to the same 5ghz band. I used wifi analyzer to choose the best channel which for me is channel 40. The other devices hold signal even after sleeping. My Note 9 (unlocked American version) sometimes just loses internet. There is an exclamation point next to the wifi icon. When I check wifi analyzer the signal strength is fine (lower absolute value than 60 or higher value than -60 dbm). The worst thing is once the exclamation point appears (meaning no internet despite retained connection to router) it will never reconnect to internet unless I turn phone wifi off and on. Resetting router has no effect. I reserved an ip for the Note 9 and put the phone on fixed ip so it won't get booted by another device. I'm at my witts end.

If you search the internet you will. Lots of us have wifi icon suddenly show an exclamation point next to it
This means good connection but NO INTERNET! This despite other devices on same 5 ghz network have no problem. Wifi analyzer shows good signal and no competing networks.
The temp fix is wifi off wifi on now it reconnects and everything is fine for 20 minutes or several hours but eventually the exclamation point is back. If it would reconnect or at least try to reconnect it would work but it just sits there waiting for me to do manually.
If we had Bixby routines like the GS10 I would write a routine to toggle wifi when there is no internet but the problem is the wifi IS connected to the router so there is probably no way to write that as a routine... and we don't get routines anyway.
I agree it isn't due to Pie in fact mine is slightly more stable since pie but still that damn exclamation point!

Every time I turn off my snapdragon U.S. version note 9, I have to stand very close to the router for like ten minutes before going upstairs to my room. I have to be standing close to it before it gets picked up by the 5gz wifi. If I do not stand next to it for 10 mins after turning my phone off then on, it will not pick up the 5ghz. I know that sounds simple, but it worked for me.
(I tried first: changing wifi channels, restarting the router, turning off the 2ghz and not the 5ghz, changed passwords for each, I mean everything.)
Hope that helps!

No, as I explained mine always connects and may remain connected for hours or for minutes. It never disconnects. It remains connected to router but stops receiving internet randomly at any time (connected wifi icon with ! next to it
I only use wifi in the same room as the router. It is my mancave and I spend all leisure time at home in that room. I shut off the wifi and the phone before bed. I have unlimited lte data but 5 ghz wifi is way faster. 2.4 ghz is perfectly stable but no faster than LTE+

Same problem started to happen recently with my phone but only with 5GHz WiFi.
Getting the same problem with 5ghz as well, have to shut it off and then reconnect to the router. Their networking coding is a disgrace, tons of complaints about it all over the place and Samsung does nothing.... I can't return my device but if you're still within the period of being able to, I would if I were you. I absolutely hate this device and all its problems.
I"m having a similar issue. First I noticed that LTE would stop working until I rebooted. Then the wifi would glitch up the same way. I'm not sure if it's the switch from one to the other, or what the deal is. The worst part is it's not repeatable. It just seems to do it randomly.
I have encountered the same problem with wifi dropping. I went to wifi setting and forget network and reboot. Punch the password back. Its working fine now. By the way im using the latest s10+ firmware rooted
Hi guys,
I was faced to the same issue since I bought my S10e. DO not mind the solutions proposed on generic sites (thecellguide.com, thedroidguy.com), they're garbage, totally irrelevant (reboot your phone, erase your cache blabla).
I've tried several hypothesis to troubleshoot this issue (very inconsistent wifi connection with my TPLink 4G routeur MR600, disconnecting every minute or so). In fact, tens...
And the final word seems to be, as observed by other users: 5GHz. After disabeling the option on my routeur (switching all traffic to 2,4GHz) everything is fine. For now.
Good luck
Chris (Fr)
I've also had this issue on the S10E where the wifi would be connected but no internet. After a few minutes it would no longer see the wifi. 5ghz of course. 2.4 no problem. I noticed this happened right after login to Samsung account. Now that I'm logged out Samsung account wifi is all good. I'm on the oneui 2 Jan sec update.
I have the same problem with my girlfriend's Samsung S10, it keeps disconnecting from 5GHz. Just now I switched her to 2.4GHz to see if it solves the problem. All our other devices (HTC One M9, 2x laptops, raspbbery pi 3, chromecast, google home) have no problem with the WiFi on either band.
Samsung really has a problem with it's network code, I also had a problem at work with Cisco APs when an Apple device and the Samsung S10 where on the same network it would bring the whole network down. It was some multicast bug where the Apple would announce itself as the gateway only when an S10 was present.
It's happened to me but never until after the last update. I noticed yesterday I was connected with no internet.

Problems with WPA3

So my accesspoint now supports WPA3 in beta.
This seems to work great with my apple products but I have some issues using wpa3 with my Pixel 4 XL.
At first I had to delete the WiFi and reenter the passphrase to get WPA3 working.
Then after a few hours the phone disconnects and asks for the passphrase again but can't connect. Keeps asking for passphrase again and again. I have to disable and enable WiFi to get it working again. This happens every few hours.
For me this looks more like a pixel related problem then a problem related to my access point, isn't it? But with WPA2 everything works fine.
Anyone else out there running WPA3 personal with Pixel 4/XL experiencing problems?

I know late answer but better as none.
I just activate WPA3 on my AVM Repeater 3000 and i have the same problems.
I needed to delete the passphrase and connect again
because before that the phone didn't change to WPA3.
And when the connection going away unexpectly i must deactivate and activate the wlan once.
I don't know whether this happens so often as by you because i'm running wpa3 since an hour (round about).
And well i have a few hickups in wpa2, too. So i can't say whether this is wpa3 specific.
I know that doesn't help you really but well at least you are not the only one with that problem.
Nice to see I'm not the only one experiencing these problems.
Have you reported the problem to AVM?

My connection aborts are so high as before. I'm back on wpa2 again.
I have issues with WPA3 as well. I switched it on the Google Nest WiFi and whilst my Chromebook doesn't face any issues, my Pixel 4XL is randomly disconnecting from the network.
I've also noticed that when I walk in my apartment, it doesn't connect automatically. I have to switch off the WiFi on the phone and switch it back on to connect to the WiFi network.
This issue does not appear when WPA3 is switched off. I initially thought it's a poor implementation on the Nest WiFi but perhaps not?

I believe meanwhile the implementation in our phone is the problem. That would explain why the problem occurs on different wpa3 router/aps.
As far as i know the pixel 4 xl isn't a wifi6 certified device and only wifi6 certfified devices are required to support wpa3.
That could explain the bad implementation.
