How else do you unlock it at the moment ? It has always been touch screen to unlock. Turn on ambient display for single touch to wake or enable double tap to wake and scan fingerprint.
Yeah , camera definitely could be better with the current hardware it has.
Google phone app can be installed via flashing the Google Dialer Framework magisk module
There's no better option because there's no option at the moment Hoping for a real always on display implementation. That would be great.

Hey all,
I have bought the Mi8 Dipper and would like to know if the fingerprint sensor is more then just reading fingerprint.
For example lots of device has fingerprint gestures.
Something like sliding down opens qs panel sliding up opens something else sliding to right and left for switching pictures in gallery.
I can't find any settings for that in latest Miui 10 EU ROM ... so is it just Miui or doesnt it even have the ability for that.
thx in advance.

To my knowledge the only other fancy thing than read fingerprints so to double as a camera shutter button, but that's about it. Though that being said, as I understood all fingerprint reader gestures are just software so should be impossible to get modded maybe?
There are apps on Google Play to do this. I was able to use the finger print sensor as back-button but it stopped working after a while and I couldn't get it working again.
Unlike other OEMs out there that use the in-display fingerprint scanner to just unlock the device, OnePlus actually gives you the ability to quickly launch other apps as well. That's just frigging amazing and I absolutely love it. You can check the full tutorial here - https://themrphone.com/article/oneplus-6t-quick-launch-apps-screen-unlock
Kind of a bummer that you still need to wake the display in the first place to actually use the in-display fingerprint scanner, but still, this is good nonetheless.
Nice, thanks for info.
Yes, completely agree that having to wake the display in the first place to actually use the in-display fingerprint scanner is a bit of a step back. Fingers crossed for a Magisk module!
tmobile version doesn't have this yet. just so everyone knows.

I think I'll be using the "touch to wake" option

The screen has to be woken in order to light your finger. UD readers use a camera behind the OLED panel to take a picture of your fingerprint, and the panel is what actually lights your finger for that shot. The only compromise I could see would be something to keep the rest of the screen dim/blank and only activate the fingerprint area, but it'll still require you to wake the screen.

Yeah, aod is probably something that can do the job at the lowest acceptable lighting requirement to read the FP.
My "Settings" app carashes when I try to enter on that menu (quick launch)... What should I do?

When you touch the fingerprint reader area the pixels behind it light up to 100% brightness in order to illuminate your finger.
The "tap to wake" feature already available pretty much solves this "problem". You simply press your finger onto the "off" display in the place where the fingerprint reader is located (easy to do after some practice) and the display turns on, fignerprint scanner illuminates and reads your finger which then unlocks the phone.

I do hope they tweak how bright the screen has to be, but from all I've read, those pixels have to be at full blast to get an accurate read on the fingerprint., so they probably need to at the very least need to regionally brighten that area of the screen fully on the ambient screen. Someone out there more clever than I will surely figure it out in a way that doesn't compromise security. Hoping it's OnePlus, but we've got an incredible community that can take a swing at it too!
Mine do not have any such feature..
Though the feature is cool I am not happy with the experience. It's not smooth, it shows pattern input screen for a while before showing quick launch menu.
Also the home screen/last app screen before the quick launch and the vibrations (too intense) are also bummer
What version of OxygenOS are you on? I'm on 9.0.3 and I don't seem to have the Quick Launch option?!

Hello mate!
I've already solved this by enabling the apps that I disabled before (like Google Pay, Google Music/Video and a few others). Then, once the quick launch worked, I disabled again those apps. :good:
still waiting for 9.0.4 to have this

by default, the quick launch is set to open a few google apps preinstalled on the device.
If you disabled/removed some of them, but didn't remove them on the quick launch list before that, then it's going to crash every time you open the quick launch setting.
Enable every default app and try again, if it still doesn't work then factory reset and next time remember to remove all apps in this setting before disabling them.

Hi!
Does the Huawei P30 Pro have the following features:
- Always On Display with ALL 3rd party notifications?
- Double-tap to sleep from home AND lockscreen
- Double-tap to wake from Always On Display
Thank you!
Yes the AOD supports all 3rd party notifications as long as they appear on the status bar. There are exceptions to this, for 'silent' notifications that only appear when you pull the bar down.
I don't believe that it supports double tap in any way, shape or form. With regards to tap-to-sleep this wouldn't work as the double-tap gesture is used to take a screenshot.
Double tap to wake from AOD is not supported either, however if you have fingerprint unlock it is kinda 'one-tap-to-wake' as you place your finger on the fingerprint scanner and the screen comes on.

Good to know about 3rd party notification on the AOD. Do the icons stay on the AOD even if you wake the phone up, but do not act on those notifications?
I'm asking because the way Xiaomi Mi 9 handles this is a complete mess.
Thank you!

No. When you unlock the phone (even if you don't dismiss the notifications) the icons will disappear from the AOD until another notification from the same app comes through.
For example, if you have a whatsapp message and unlock the phone the WA icon will disappear from the AOD until you receive another WA message.
EDIT: The exception to this is persistent notifications. For example I have VPN Unlimited. If this is connected then the icon remains. Likewise with WhatsApp Web notification, that remains.

Ah. I see. What an odd implementation. Xiaomi did the same thing. Good to know.
Are you happy with your Huawei? I'd mostly get it because of the camera.

To each their own, but I think it makes perfect sense. If I have unlocked the device then I am aware of the notifications - they don't get removed from the phone, just the AOD. Much in the same way a notification LED would handle it on a Samsung or other device. I would, if I could, get rid of the persistent notifications on the AOD, but other than that I don't mind.
Am I happy with the Huawei? In a way, yes. I got it for the camera and I am very impressed with it, unless you wish to shoot video. If you want to shoot video (with special mention of super-slow-motion videos) then you should look to get a different device - In my opinion.
The still photography is better than pretty much any other phone that I've ever used or come across and the night-time photography is also excellent. Video wise the panning stutters a little, the slow motion is purely interpolation (the sensor only captures 240fps, not 960 as it claims) and the colours in video seem... unrealistic. Sometimes too soft, sometimes too vivid. It's good, but not as good as others on the market for video.
Hello all,
I'm currently in China and would like to buy a P30 (Pro) and use it in Europe / Germany.
Are there different hardware specs (e. G. Lte bands) except for the obvious memory and storage options?
Thank you very much ?
Hello, I was using the holey light app on my S10.
I understand that holey light no longer works on Android 11.
I just got an S21 Ultra.
Which app (free or paid) can do the same?
I want a permanent black screen (even on a new notification, no AOD, no clock) with only the edge of the camera illuminated.
If possible the application using as little battery as possible.
Thank you all.

It would not be a bad idea to go on that link, log in and post your demand to make good lock available for all the countries. Even if there are others who posted the same, add your voice to them.

I don't want the aod to show up when a notification comes in, or the aod to be a black screen (I believe that was the trick with holey light).
Are you sure that aodnotify can display a totally black screen (no aod no clock) just the light notification and that it only disappears if I erase it or read it

Hello, I am new owner of Pixel 7.
-I came from Huawei P30 and on that phone when I touched the screen (when it was off) it inmediatelly scanned my finger and unlocked/opened the device. Is this also possible on Pixel phones? I haven´t found it in the settings.
-How can I set the blue eye filter to turn on and off automatically at desired time?
Thank you.
Hey, you can with the app AoD notify (Notification Light for Pixel). But you need to use an adb command. It uses you always on display and replaces it with his own (black one) So you have a completly Black AoD and the fingerprint scanner is always on.
You have to use the settings like in the Attachment.

Those attachments aren't English. No idea what they are showing.
Neither do I but what does 'patched you are finished' mean? Hmm..
Don't need no battery chewing app, just turn on the AOD that's it. Without AOD, you just need to tap or lift the phone, which is enough in most cases.
My problem is the fingerprint icon is below the actual sensor. So i have to intentionally place the thumb in higher position.
