Mi8 70hz refresh rate - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys,
I was checking a kernel but I can't seem to download it, I'm guessing it got taken down.
Is there any current way to set the screen refresh rate on the Mi8 to 70hz?
Thanks

Do not attempt messing with your refresh rate, if it was something that was safe to do every single rom would implement it. Maybe you weren't around a few months ago when several Mi8 users attempted using a Mi9 mod to change the refresh rate. Let just say it didn't work out to well for them.

Hardware Super Boost and Force GPU rendering

Hello redmagic3 fellows,
I mainly play pubg mobile everyday and only turn on GameSpace and set it to Super Mode.
The in game graphic settings that I use is Smooth Extreme.
Whilst under Developer Options, there are this feature called Hardware Super Boost (with red font warning "This optimization is experimental only and could impact some functions) and Force GPU rendering.
Have any of you tried above features? If yes, does it really improve gaming experience and smoothness?
Thank you
Can't you just display frame rate on screen, apply the change and see if it goes up? If you are already hitting the fps limit for the game then try it with some benchmarks. (i don't have this device yet)

I dont have the frame rate app installed on my phone becausse I read the review, it said that my phone has to be always connected with a laptop/pc, to me it is such a nuisance on gaming wise, too many cables hanging around, earphone cable is already enough for the mess.
Anyway, I will wait for those who have already tried before.
That feture was bisabled in new version, it won't bring any improvement for your phone. However, if you can find the V2.24 Chinese version, it will work

Wait what.. You don't need to be connected to anything to display refresh rate on screen. If there is no option in debug settings to show refresh rate on screen, then i would use GLTools or something to display it. If you are not rooted its probably not worth messing with.

If you are using the global version ROM, IT WON'T HELP. If you are using Chinese ROM and the version is V2.24, it will help and improve the performance.

How To Guide 120Hz refresh rate everywhere (including YouTube) No root.

I jumped from stock CN firmware to XiaomiEU and I noticed that my YouTube running on 60Hz...this is how to fix it back to 120hz all the time. This is method gonna change you refresh rate to 120Hz everywhere including games, and it will stay after restarting ur phone
Attached screenshot
I think videos on YouTube are max 60 FPS so no real point in any higher than 60hz. That was my understanding anyway I could be well off.
I would gladly make it so that the refresh drops to the content I'm watching ( like YouTube to 60 ) but it seems to be stuck on 120hz always... that's why I set it to 90hz and it's much better now . It's a very good compromise between battery drain and viewing experience imo.
Cheers !

Correct, videos on YT are 60FPS max. However I think OP simply meant 120Hz when scrolling in the YouTube app

Nope, it doesn't work in my 11 Ultra global rom. What i did was clear the cache of battery and performance apps and it will become 120Hz everywhere. However it will revert back once restarted.
I am not sure if this will work with xiaomi devices but for those who want to test/try, check galaxy max hz

Damn thx bruh. I'm getting 120 on yt now. Was trying to find out how to get this done. Idk I came across stuff like to clear the battery app. Weird.
Anyway thx! This helped a ton!
It doesn't work really well though as after watching a video YouTube goes back to 60hz, I found the solution with forcing 120hz via custom props for those who have root
Thanks, it worked on my Poco F3
Thanks it worked on mi 11.

The swich between 120 and 60 or between 90 or 60 (when setting the refresh rate manually) on Mi 11 Pro is driving me crazy. The reason is that the screen flickers eveytime it switches refresh rate. I really need to set 90hz or 120hz permanently but none of the solutions above works for me. Is there any other way to fix the refresh rate to a given number? 60hz is too low.
You can do ot with terminal if you have root or via ADB if not

I used this app before. I now suspect that my problems with flicker started some time after I changed the refresh rate to 90hz using setedit. Anyway, I recently did a clean install of MIUI 13 (Xiaomi EU) and the flicker is gone. I use the default 120 hz mode now and get more or less the same battery life as when I used 90hz. Before I did a clean flash it did not work using ADB commands either. Even if I set both minimum or maximun refresh rate to 90 it jumped between 60 and 90 constantly.

Question Refresh rate drops when edge lighting comes on

Hello since first build on one UI 4.0 im facing refresh rate / screen strutter when edge lighting comes on.
Have done factory reset when receiving the first build of one UI 4.0
Anyone can confirm if another factory reset is needed? As restoring my games and apps take quite alot of time and data.
Current build is the latest BULC
Exynos dual sim model
Hi, I've sometimes noticed that too, although not 100% sure if it's simply related to this:
Picture in Picture, Split Screen etc - Refresh Rate drops to 60Hz (EXYNOS)
Hi there, I'd not noticed this before the Android 12 update, but refresh rate appears to drop from 120Hz to 60Hz when using Picture in Picture or Split Screen views. Can anyone else reproduce this please? You can confirm this by going into...
forum.xda-developers.com
Can you please test that scenario too? Thanks.
There are a lot of moments throughout a lot of applications when adaptive refresh rate just decides that it's the moment to use 60hz. The one that annoys me the most is the unlock animation.

Question can Spen option cause screen flickring?

Hello friends
i have S21 ultra exynos version, when i turn on Spen option in setting the top off screen is start to flickring (Small white horizontal lines difficult to see easily with the eye but it is visible when i focusing vision) its like vibrations when we bring a metal object closer to an old TV screen.
when i turn off the spen setting the screen its become normal
so any one can confirm that for me its normal that i see this or not? tnx in advance
I think it needs degaussed
Not normal for Notes. May be a firmware glitch, try at different refresh rates.
Try a hard reboot and clear the system cache.

CRT's were fun. Got shocked more than once.
One time when I was replacing a huge one even though I had discharged it several times to no spark. Capacity memory is scary. Fortunately I didn't drop it, that could've ended up badly.
Sounds like firmware. The variable refresh rate displays are extremely hard to calibrate. It's bad enough trying to color/gamma calibrate at fixed rate display through its brightness range. It's near impossible on variable refresh rate displays.
I would just ignore it unless it gets worse*. If under warranty maybe then otherwise the cure maybe worse than the disease. There maybe other work arounds or use the one you found or the easiest... just ignore it. If it's not a major issues don't go too nuts.
*It's possible the rom got corrupted (single event upset) or one of millions of the transistor or mosfet junctions failed in the mobo or display matrix. Every wonder what happens when one or two fail?

If you take a screen shot of it:
If it shows on the shot it's the firmware or mobo
If it doesn't show it's the display
Can you return it do a charge back on the card used to buy it?

It may be the display. The active matrix is packed to the gills with mosfet junctions.
Try some Google searches; it will likely show up on Samsung members forum if it's an issue.
Take an image of it and do a Google image search if possible.

Question Refresh Rate stuck at 120hz (battery drain)

Pretty sure, my oneplus 10 pro is stuck at 120hz the whole time which drains A LOT of battery. BUT, isn't this phone meant to be LTPO 2.0 technology which has variable refresh rate as low as 1hz. I am so confused why it doesn't drop to 1hz. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP . I tried those stupid apps like smart hertz and they are useless, shouldn't the phone itself drop to 1hz, like bruh

Hi, in the developper options settings you can toggle on a settings that show you the live framerate of the screen. You will see it drops at 1hz when nothing is happening on the screen. Warning : it drops only to 10hz when brightness is at middle, and stay at 120hz all time at mid brightness
Hope it helps you
Edit : i tried and mine is also stuck at 120hz or 60hz but never dropping below
It was working few months ago
Working fine here
Screen Recorder Doesn't Support 120fps Record
It's stuck on 120hz on my side on lower brightness levels.
On the Standard refresh rate setting, it's altering between 60hz & 30hz on lower brightness levels.
@regrestbuyingOP10pro are you in quad HD + ? If so try to go back at full HD +, then reboot
On my side variable refresh rate worked again after that, but as soon as I go for quad HD it brake it
Still great battery life with quad HD tho
Edit : tried it again and does not worked this time. I really dont know what's causing that, maybe with debloat I disabled an app nedded for that
Have you used the magisk module, because some time ago, because of some modules, the screen can only switch between 120 and 60hz

Interesting, indeed I have some Magisk modules and Lsposed modules. I disabled them all but did not change... Still stuck at 120hz and dropping only to 60 and only when watching a vidéo or with keyboard openend, just as you described. I will restore some disabled system app to see if there is a link

So i removed root completely, i restored ALL the system apps that i disabled long time ago to debloat the phone, and removed some apps that can changes system settings such as Naptime, 3C toolbox, DarkQ
Rebooted a couple of times and this damn phone is still stuck at 120Hz
I will give up there, except if you have other ideas to test, but i'm too lazy to do a factory reset to see if a ****ter user app is causing this...
Someone have his phone that is dropping fine to 10hz or 1hz with OOS 13 C22, C25 or C26 ?
To know if it is not a system issue of these builds, please tell me
I have never rooted my phone. Refresh rate is working fine for me on C26

Yep, I can lock some app that were 60hz to 120hz like snapchat, and lock some apps to 60hz
But it don't fix my issue : if I stop scrolling to read something, my screen will never drop hz, and stay still at 120 or 60 depending on how I set it
