Is there a way to get future updates after rooting my device ?

You mean future updates from Samsung or independent third party?

Yes, just download the future firmware and flash it with Odin. You'll lose your root but you can root it again. You can repeat this process again and again for every new update. Even I have done it too with my j5(2015).

I was able to get OTA even after I rooted, you may copy the ota file and then flash stock AP( firmware's portion selected in AP section of odin) and flash OTA from the stock firmware and then flash twrp again.
Hideous I know but you dont have to search the whole internet for your firmware and most trusted sammobile requires premium for even decent download speed.

I use SamFirm Tool for downloading firmwares. It gives me high speed of my ISP which is 100Mbps

Can't find I537UCUCNH3 (4.4.2)

So i get an i537 locked on AT&T ion ebay by almost 100 bucks so i decided to buy it instead an S3 because for the price was a better choice , thinking that i could unlock "free" but then i realized that i could do it but i had to have the zx3 box.... thing that i did'nt have and i am not going to buy it . So i had to buy the unlock code almost for 15 bucks on ebay with a link from a store of Spain, took me around 4 days to have it. The first thing that i wanted to do was root it, i hate bloatware, so i rooted it and leave the stock rom, yesterday i saw in gsmarena.com that it was getting Lollipop via OTA, so i had to restore it back in order to get it. Mine was running I537UCUCNH3 but i couldn't get the full firmware that is almost 1 gb or something like that so by mistake i get the I537UCUCNE3 to flash on odin.
It flash with no problems but then i get the problem that i didn't have the radio service, so i flashed the modem bin from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2689218, after that i get signal and check for the update and it begins to download, almost an hour and a half then it begins to install the update and reboot and when it was on 28% it turned off and reboot. Then it says firmware was not installed and checked for the update and it says that is up to date check in XX hours again. I checked the band version and was on UCUAMF1 but with the I537UCUCNE3 version so i think that i flash it wrong and may be in the process of the update as is does not match it failed the update.
Now i can't restore again the modem.bin because it fails so i need urgent help to restore it and the lollipop update

Flash the NE3 Odin package again and then flash the NH3 OTA update. Assuming that your radios are working you should get the OC6 update right away. Just be aware that currently there is no way to root OC6 and may never be, plus there is no way to downgrade back to a firmware that is rootable.
The issue you're running in to is that the updater checks all the files on the phone before installing the update. If all the files match what it thinks should be there then it will update just fine. If anything is changed, any system files, modems, or even if you've just rooted the update will fail to install as you've seen.

Did you read through the [HOW-TO][GUIDE] Install Any i537 Firmware? It explains exactly how to install any firmware you want. I know why you're having problems flashing the OTA's, but it seems like you haven't read how to flash them.

yes i have read it, it flash with no problems but weird part is that yesterday it worked fine but when i got the signal fix it shows on system version I537UCUCNE3 but band version was on MF1 an not on NE3. I can't remember what exactly i did after lollipop update fail but now i can't get the modem.bin working. So i guess that something went wrong during flash yesterday that now i can't fix the signal

The signal fix flashes the MF1 modems, that is why your band version says MF1; you're actually using modems from a older firmware.
These are exactly the steps you need to follow:
Start over and flash the NE3 Odin package. It doesn't matter if you have a signal or not because you should have already downloaded the OTA files with your computer ahead of time.
Once you're on stock NE3 (without modifying the modem), flash the NH3 OTA. Instructions on how to do that are described in detail in the i537 Firmware Guide.
Once you're on stock NH3, flash the OC6 OTA file. Instructions are described in detail in the i537 Firmware Guide.
If you still don't have a signal after you're on OC6, then try the Modem fix, but it may not work.
Basically what you need to do is follow the instructions step by step in the section titled "NE3 to OC6".

So you can reflash the NE3 Odin package, that's good. I understand you don't have a baseband, but we need to make sure you can update your phone to NH3 and OC6 before we try to fix that. What exactly does your phone say when you try to flash the NH3 update? Maybe posting a photo would be easier.
Also check that the MD5 of the files you downloaded matches the MD5 posted in the i537 Firmware Thread. If the MD5's match then you have a good download, if they don't match then you have a corrupted download and need to redownload the files.

Wait did you put the cfg inside a zip?! You have to rename 240058.cfg to update.zip, not compress it to a zip archive. Or did I misunderstand your post?

Unroot and update

OK, I can find how to up date to 5.0 and keep root. How can I unroot and update to 5.0?
Just flash the OTA. But why would anyone want to? If you don't want this phone rooted, sell it. If you unroot and go stock you can never go back to root.
I've tried to just do the ota but it fails at 26%
It fails because your rooted. Flash stock Rom first.

Go to the OP scroll down to step 4 in the notes section, download the back to nce firmware. Use odin to flash it in the AP slot. Take the OTAs.
I take it you would leave out the root with towle root part

Latest KitKat stock ROM available

So I've reset my HTC One back to stock 2 days ago and since then have received a lot of OTA updates.
Then I found that I had lost root.
I managed to reinstall TWRP and root today, but got another OTA update notification.
Because I don't want to lose root (and because TWRP says you should not update with custom recoveries), I'm looking for another way to update.
TWRP suggests to "wait for the developers to create a new ROM" but honestly, finding something in this forum is not easy...
My update is 6.09.401, but if there is something more recent I'll take that (but still KitKat). I've looked in the ROM collection but the latest seems to be 5.x or jump to 7.xx.
If I have to do some work (e.g. more research) please direct me to the right direction and I'll be happy to do it.
Will RUUs work? Still not clear what they are.

Yep, you'll always loose root after an OTA update. Must ppl doesn't matter about that since it only takes a few minutes to root again.

The only way to use ota update is by flashing back the stock recovery that match your version-main. Like said above, you'll loose root after an update. You can also update your phone by flashing a RUU but you'll also loose root and all your file since the RUU will make your phone stock, like if it was brand new.

I think the simplest solution since you want to stay on kitkat is to reflash your stock recovery 6.09.401.? (you didn't typed the last number), install the ota updates until you are on 6.09.401.11 or 6.09.401.12, reflash twrp and flash Supersu to re-root.

RUU are packages that will restore then entire phone Software and firmware partitions.
Thanks alray.
So are you saying there is not pre-rooted 6.09.401.11 ROM available to flash on the forum?
Where shall I look for it?

Maybe i don't know. All roms are posted in the development section. Why not simply updating your phone and flashing Supersu again? It will take you maybe 20 min to install the update, reflash twrp and root...

I'll have to find and flash the stock ROM first, do the updates, then flash TWRP and SuperSu.
If there is a way to flash only once why should I waste time (and increase chances of bricking the phone)?

You already are on the stock rom, just flash the stock recovery over twrp, install ota update(s) until you are on the desired version, flash twrp and supersu. There isn't really any chances to brick....
Code:
fastboot flash recovery your_stock_recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
Then boot the phone, install update(s). Once updated to the desired version, reflash twrp:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Boot in twrp, install supersu 2.46.zip then reboot in the OS and you're done.
But yes if you prefer you can find a stock rooted rom of 6.09.401.11 if there is still one somewhere.

Help with up to date guide to Root

Hi,
Can someone concisely give the most up to date instructions on how to root the P20 Pro
Confused because some people talk about debranding first? Is this necessary if you, like me, just have a generic non-network branded phone?
Also.. Does rooting require twrp?
A bit unclear on if I should use the offical or unofficial twrp methods.
And if so does twrp prevent OTA updates? I was lead to believe that any OTA updates would simply wipe any root and you just have to go through the steps again, but would twrp prevent an OTA update in the first place?
What are the best instructions to root the P20 Pro to keep the OTA updates going (even if you need to reroot after each update).
Thanks heaps in getting through the confusion!
Here you have manual to root in simple 4 steps. You need adb and fastboot on your computer, bootloader unlock code and Magisk from link in post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...de-how-to-root-debrand-remove-retail-t3788326
Does any of the steps,
1/ unlocking the bootloader
2/ debranding
3/ installing TWRP
3/ rooting
Wipe the device?.. I'm assuming yes?
Also. What's the point of debranding?..
I think I'm on a generic P20 Pro that wasn't bought from a carrier - so is that step necessary for me.
Thanks heaps again for the advice - coming over from the Samsung world and maybe I'm so used to the rooting methods there
Also do any of those steps prevent OTA updates?
Or is there somehow to still use OTA updates but simply need to reapply root on every occasion there is ah update?

Unlocking the bootloader will wipe your device. The other steps won't.
You need to have TWRP installed in order to be able to flash Magisk (for Root), and no you don't have to rebrand if you don't want to. You'll still be able to receive and download OTAs but if TWRP remains installed on your phone it won't be able to install unless you change back to the stock recovery. However there is methods to update with TWRP and you'll be able to get and install updates quicker than waiting for them to be pushed to you phone. That's the main reason people rebrand because generic European models are getting updates the fastest.
What's your device model and current firmware version from 'About Phone' in settings?

Thanks heaps for the advice - makes sense now!
I'm using the model CLT-L29 on C636 which I think is the Asia Pacific model.. And incidentally just received a OTA upgrade to the 128 firmware
.. So in order to receive OTA updates you simply have to change back to the stock recovery after using TWRP to install magisk and root?
But I imagine every time the OTA update occurs it wipes root?.. Which would mean reinstalling TWRP to regain root and doing the whole process again every time?

Yep you got it in one lol
The other option so that you don't have to flash TWRP then back to stock recovery each time is when you receive an OTA is download the same firmware (Full-OTA version) from Firmware Finder - you would just need the update.zip - then using Huawei update extractor you can extract the ramdisk.img Then copy the ramdisk.img to your phone, use Magisk manager to patch it then copy it back to your PC and flash it via fastboot. But I think this is more work than flashing between TWRP & stock recoveries haha

Root + Ota update

Hey I have p20 pro EU version 6/128
Today I got a new update about Google security.
I want every update run on my phone
But I rooted my device.
I wanted first to ask guys , I tried to update but was unsuccessful. I do not have twrp because of the method I used to root p20 pro didn't allow me having magisk and twrp recovery.
So now if I want to update have to do it manually ?
2 questions
1) which program do I use ?
2) where I can find the firmware Official WITHOUT BEEING CHANGED ANYTHING inside from someone third.
Thanks John
You need to flash the stock bootloader. If you are running Pie and Magisk, you have a modified bootloader. I don't know where to download the stock one. Could probably rip it from a stock Pie firmware.
Me to have twrp on my p20 pro and i cannot update my phone.. Have new update but when I try system update after download, its entering to recovery mode for install the firmware but it cannot coz working twrp and unsuccessful installation.
Me to look for stock recovery for clt-l29 pie

Download the current version you are using. Extract recovery_ramdisk.img and flash. Reboot and take OTA update. You will lose root, as I said you have a modified recovery and need stock to take OTA.
Edit - Once your done, patch the bootloader from Magisk and flash to get root again.
