is this normal? - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

This is my first xiaomi phone "coming from s8 plus", I'm really happy with it, the only thing that annoys me is the standby usage.
As per screenshot I lost the 31% is 11 hrs and I was sleeping the whole time!
Same usage same apps same networks with s8 plus was like 5% loss.
There has to be a fix for this!
I'm thinking to unlock bootloader and try xiaomi eu, but can anyone confirm that it doesn't have this bug??

I'm on global dev 9.6.27 and my battery looses 5-6% over the night and in plane mode (8h) so your drain is not normal

Exactly if I turn airplane mode everything is okay.
But I don't want to turn it, with pervious devices without turning airplane mode I never lost more than 6-7 percent over night.

I'm on xiaomi.eu debloated and modded by myself with around 3% discharge over night (with automatic wifi, bluetooth, gps off) and SOT around 6 hours with automatic brightness)
So definitely your mi9 power consumption is too high.

So I have to root to install eu? Or just unlock bootloader?
And I can lock the bootloader again, right?

I think you have to root your mi9, because for every new firmware you've got to format data, internal storage and factory reset.
So make an external backup.
May be it's also possible with mi tools...... You can try....
I don't take care about locked or unlocked bootloader, means I've never tried to lock bootloader again.

in my configuration with permanent switched on wifi, data and high accuracy gps (without mi power saving options) I'm around 4 to 5% over night.
Why you've got Bluetooth on over night?
So, your mi9 power consumption isn't bad but it could be better.
If someone interested what I've frozen and what I've removed see here the screenshot of my app status in titanium :

Can I force activate deep sleep / doze mode when screen is locked but not off?

I've got a ROM on my Galaxy S5 with Always-On Display tech but it remains stuck at the lowest frequency (300MHZ) while the AOD is active thus phone never enters deep sleep state and it drains more battery. Is there some shell command or some way to make the phone enter deep sleep even when the AOD is active and technically the screen is not off (although the ROM thinks it is). I never understood how the newer phones enter deep sleep while keeping AOD nonstop running. Would be nice to let my phone sleep while AOD is turned on.

Hi again mate
I don't think it's possible unfortunately...
Just disable AOD if you don't want to loose battery.
By the way are you using nemesis reborn v4 ROM like me ?
I'm using sparkplug kernel but I still got less than 4 hours SOT and I can't find solutions at all !

I used Tasker to make AOD turn on only when the phone is being charged, works ok.
And yes, I'm on Nemesis v4, very soon will be on v5 when it comes out
I get ~2h SOT and ~24h total life out of my phone. I'll buy a brand new battery after I flash v5 and set it up as I like it. My battery is really bad, I know it.
It's possible to put it in Battery saver mode if you want.

Mi 9 lite battery drain \ cpu usage miui 11

Hi everyone,
I received my phone a week ago.
After first boot it updated to miui 11.
I noticed a day later that the battery is getting empty fast. Much faster than my old redmi 4x.
I figured out that the CPU usage is never under 19% @ 595mhz
I testet that with different apps that show the CPU usage.
In case of that the phone also never get into deepsleep and the battery drains and drains...
Is here someone who can help me please?!

Sounds great! But how can i go back to 10?
First put phone into fastboot mode, then check antirool feature with command fastboot getvar anti if you have
anti: 1 it's all good, after that you need to download from Miui page proper recovery rom, put zip on your phone storage and then flash via Miui system update in settings. Don't flash wrong rom it can hard brick device if you have locked bootloader, also remove password for screen, fingerprints, all accounts, miui cloud

Thanks for that! I´ve downgraded to MIUI 10. But the CPU usage is still never under 19% . If the battery now will drain not as fast as before i will see., but i think it will be near the same.
Maybe you can do me a favor and check with the app " CPU / GPU meter & Notification " if your CPU is going under 19% usage. Maybe it is a issue with this kind of apps....
Probably apps have problem with readings..
I think below 19% when device in deep sleep or battery saving mode. Dont know about that app, maybe just reading in relatime. There is a case when i like your case, at first day using miui 11 stable eu, i can get 2days with 6h sot, most of it using wifi. Then i setup my phone completely. On next day, the battery getting drain fast, and it cant last for 1 day, and just 5h sot. Next i check battery usage, and whatsapp at the top rank. And i unlocking every task. The next day my battery back to normal. And when im writing this post, my battery have 85%, 2h sot, and 7h ago since last charge.
Miui 10 with airplane mode enabled
Since I upgraded to MIUI 11 the battery drains fast
not much draining for me but never go deep sleep, most used frequency is 576 mhz
Hi everyone,
I have the same sad issue.... changed from a 3 years old Redmi Note 4 to a 9 lite.
Battery life with my old Note 4 (same 4000mah) was twice the battery life on my 9 lite, after 3 years!!
I disabled everything in 9 lite, NFC, wifi, bluetooth, background and startup apps, animations, notifications, Gplay updates, face unlocking, always on display, enabled dark theme etc etc....
Same battery drain, 12-13% Android System usage on battery stats.
I hope it will be fixed on a newer MIUI update, but it is very irritating to have to charge a new phone every day, when on an older you had a double battery life.
Please update us in case we'll found a workaround....
Just a question.... How do you monitor CPU usage? I see the setting inside developer options has been removed.....
Same here. Tried many things. Looks like "Settings -> Battery and performance -> Battery saver" solved problem for me. Used to drain ~30% over night while idle, now ~7% in same case.
I suppose battery saving tries to shutdown functions I already disabled...
I tried to leave a feedback to Xiaomi.
Also I created android commands local file dump with code *#*#284#*#* and trying to investigate by myself...
I tried modify modify some settings and uninstall or disable some not used apps before. It made almost any difference.
Previously I used Samsung smartphone. With similar settings I had great battery life. It seems mi 9 lite just cannot sleep/deep sleep without Battery saver turned on. I did not notice any difference in performance, user experience or notification frequency while this setting is on, and it seems it works in different way compared to Samsung implementation. Just give it a try.
May be I'm out ; when I sleep if my screen is " up " I lost 25- 30 % of battery : ( when my screen is "return" 4 or 5 % : )

Interesting.... I'll try....
I find it crazy how this phones loses 7-10% overnight while my RN5 lost maybe 2. I work and live in area with bad 4G but decent 3G signal. I try to force 3G when I can.
I just switched on battery saver to see if it helps my standby drain at all.
I'm currently at 1.5 days off the charger, with 37% battery left after 4 hours of screen time. I am a fairly light user and just browse Reddit, XDA, text, hangouts, and 2 email accounts. Reminds me of my Nexus 5 lol. So terrible considering I do so many things to try to squeeze as much battery life as I can.
Maybe my Galaxy Watch being constantly connected has something to do with it.
Top 4 battery users are :
Android system 20%
Phone Idle 12.7%
Cell standby 12.5%
Screen 9.8%

Have you tried a GSI? Does anything stop working, like finger print reader, etc?
Inserting code ##4636#*#* and accessing networks menu, I found that in both SIM1 and SIM2 is set as default (LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS if you have 2 SIM and you use Dual 4G, LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS on SIM1 and TD-SCDMA/UMTS if you have 2 SIM and don't you use Dual 4G as default), the chinese network TD-SCDMA (before or after LTE network)
Probably this cause waste of time, battery loss and an higher sar level, mostly when LTE network coverage is not at its best.
Unfortunately this setting can be modified inside this menu (setting for example LTE/WCDMA), but this is lot when you restart the phone.
My firmware version is PFCEUXM european Rom.
I wish this TD-SCDMA chinese network will be definitively removed in next rom upgrade!!!

Battery drain issue after update to miui 11

Hello, I have a battery drain issue after updating to miui 11. I read most of the threads that was posted about this issue. i check autostart, check network type and even tried to press 3 times on miui logo (in the system update) and download the latest package and install and it didnt work. I have battery drain in background (when screen on and off i have this issue)
I have some screenshots of battery drain on night when i m not using my phone (few times that i had this issue). In miui 10 I had around 8 sot and in miui 11 around 4.

Revert to miui 10, for me this was the solution. You can also try a strange workaround that worked for me. Set all the apps in "no restriction" in battery settings. It is very strange but is saving me a lot of battery

Question Battery draining by simply turning AOD and AOD notifications on ?

Hello, I'm on the 11T Pro. For some bizzare reason I get absolutely annoying battery draining by simply toggling AOD to be on and with notifications. Even set to the defaults which is a 10s timeout, I'm getting almost half the battery life. The phone is also warmer I think but just by a bit.
EDIT: Happens on stock EEA- both 13.0.20 and beta 14.0.3 and on xiaomi.eu latest 13.0.8
EDIT2: Shameless copy-paste from my own thread at https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...d-and-aod-notifications-on.68045/#post-683839

Before concluding on a hardware problem, maybe flash a fastboot rom (V13.0.21.0.SKDEUXM) with Miflash without re-locking the bootloader and testing.

Also, I flashed just a few days ago that fastboot rom and locked my bootloader and it still happened.

Well that's interesting...with the screen on is about 65%. in 2h 30m of usage it's 813mAh. but With AOD and AOD notifications enabled and no screen on time, it's about 40% which is odd-200 mAh.
I mean I can live without AOD as 6-7h SOT is honestly expected from a SD888 device IMHO. Or do you mean there's a deeper issue that will only get worse ?

SOT is relative and stays depending on what you are doing, streaming, music, etc. AOD has little impact on battery.
I only look at how long between the next charge without going lower than 20%.

Hmm, then maybe it's not AOD itself but a bug within the functionality, that only I have ??. Or a hardware problem.
hmm, I got 9h of just reading Play Books and answering messages. Got about 7h45m of: Chrome(Hacker News, Xda, other news), Discord, Teams. normal usage for me to get 7h is basically just Teams, Discord, forums and about 1h of LOL Wild rift
But with AOD and AOD Notifications on it's usually 4-5h continous SOT like max, max.
I haven't tried any battery calibration, to be honest. And I get battery drops between reboots.

No. There is no discernible change from the previous version (EEA ROM).
On a seperate note I see that Xiaomi have now removed (hidden?) "cell standby" from battery stats to stop people, like me, moaning about it!
