Question Battery draining by simply turning AOD and AOD notifications on ? - Xiaomi 11T Pro

Hello, I'm on the 11T Pro. For some bizzare reason I get absolutely annoying battery draining by simply toggling AOD to be on and with notifications. Even set to the defaults which is a 10s timeout, I'm getting almost half the battery life. The phone is also warmer I think but just by a bit.
EDIT: Happens on stock EEA- both 13.0.20 and beta 14.0.3 and on xiaomi.eu latest 13.0.8
EDIT2: Shameless copy-paste from my own thread at https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...d-and-aod-notifications-on.68045/#post-683839

Is this an original AOD theme or downloaded from the store?

original AOD actually. And notifications on too. Seriously, I'm going from 3-4h SOT to 7h with AOD disabled

You have used several roms, did you perform a clean flash for the last one?

Yes, my usual methodlogy from TWRP is: Format data -> Factory Reset -> Reboot -> flash rom -> factory reset -> format data

Before concluding on a hardware problem, maybe flash a fastboot rom (V13.0.21.0.SKDEUXM) with Miflash without re-locking the bootloader and testing.

It's working perfectly without AOD tho. I'm getting 6-7h SOT...which I'm actually not sure how it is.
Also, I flashed just a few days ago that fastboot rom and locked my bootloader and it still happened.

I don't see what else to do except send it in for warranty.
In the battery statistics, what is the consumption of the screen?

Well that's interesting...with the screen on is about 65%. in 2h 30m of usage it's 813mAh. but With AOD and AOD notifications enabled and no screen on time, it's about 40% which is odd-200 mAh.

I mean I can live without AOD as 6-7h SOT is honestly expected from a SD888 device IMHO. Or do you mean there's a deeper issue that will only get worse ?

SOT is relative and stays depending on what you are doing, streaming, music, etc. AOD has little impact on battery.
I only look at how long between the next charge without going lower than 20%.

Hmm, then maybe it's not AOD itself but a bug within the functionality, that only I have ??. Or a hardware problem.
hmm, I got 9h of just reading Play Books and answering messages. Got about 7h45m of: Chrome(Hacker News, Xda, other news), Discord, Teams. normal usage for me to get 7h is basically just Teams, Discord, forums and about 1h of LOL Wild rift
But with AOD and AOD Notifications on it's usually 4-5h continous SOT like max, max.
I haven't tried any battery calibration, to be honest. And I get battery drops between reboots.

Problems after Repair (Battery or Processor)

I sent my phone in for the purple camera problems and I got it back last week.
When I received it, it was updated to 4.3 Sense 5, most likely from the latest RUU.
Since I got my phone back, my battery has been horrendous and I noticed it had heat problems. I checked battery health and it said it's good, so I figured I just needed to re-calibrate my battery so I gave it a week of use. It's been the same horrible battery life.
I checked for wakelocks but there were no significant ones I haven't seen before. I've attached some screenshots of battery use. One thing that confuses me is that it shows Wifi running for 9 hours, even though I had it off for most of that. Is this normal?
To deal with the heat, I had to install a custom kernel and undervolt/underclock a bit. Before flashing, I noticed this thing is forcing itself to max frequency (1.7 GHz) which explains the heat. So the battery is draining because of this, presumably. I switched to intellidemand and lowered the clock a bit so it can last 12 hours (Doing nothing at all) instead, but that's still horrible compared to what I had before I sent it in.
Before I sent my phone in I typically had stock kernel while using insert coin or trick, Power Saver On, Auto-Sync Off, All Play Services/Google Now On and got 4-5 hours OST. Now I can barely get 2 hours.
Does anyone know where I can look to find the cause of my processor forcing itself to max frequency? I want to figure this out before I annoyingly have to send it in again. (Have to S-On/Re-Lock again =\)I was thinking maybe something shorted when they replaced the camera.

Thanks, I guess it's normal then since I never turned that off before.
Now to figure out why the cpu is forcing max frequency all the time on stock kernel/firmware.

must be some rogue app, maybe best to factory reset, install (or restore) apps one by one.
if you're rooted use Titanium Backup, and check out Greenify for facebook and similar apps.

Those screenshots were from after factory resetting. I'm considering RUUing back to 4.1.2 and flash my way back to 4.3 and see if that helps.

That gained me maybe an hour. Just applied a Sense 5.0 4.3 and it seems to be better. 10 hours on idle with 40% left. A lot better than 8 hours to dead. I'll give it a couple days and re-calibrate the battery to see if it's all okay. I've noticed very steep drops from when the screen is on. Thanks again for the help.

Battery drain

Hi, I have p30 pro for about 3 weeks now and the software is updated. However, I have noticed in the last few days that battery drain is happening a lot faster than it used to be. I did not install any new apps nor do I have a live theme or notification app... I think I can only get about 5 hours on screen time now, but earlier could do better.. How long does your battery holds and what is your average on-screen time? Also what is the unlocking frequency of yours in the past 7 days or so?

After update, you should clear cache via recovery so it can optimize apps back properly. For me easily 7hours sot with my Samsung gear connected 24/7 + GPS always on and that's with around 15-20% left. Also in App Launch, I don't set it to automatic. I manage them manually allowing those I want and disabling those that I don't need running in the background.

Can assure you that almost everyone here can get 7 hours of SOT. Do you have any rogue apps ? Reboot your phone into recovery, then choose Wipe Cache.

So now it's 2 am, I have charged the phone to 100% at 9:30pm, It has not be used much although it was on mobile data the whole time. This is the result now: 85% baterry, and it says "time awake" 1:06 mins. Does that mean that phone was unlocked and used for 1 hour and 6 mins after being fully charged? Since I don't think I have used it for so long, since I was in cinema for 3 hours, from 10pm until 1:30am, and only unlocked it for couple of times during the movie. Something strange is def going on. I don't have rogue apps, just normal ones and tbh just a few.
Can you please be so kind to type step by step tutorial where to find all that in settings and what to do, because I don't want to mess something up.. Thank you.
i unplugged the phone at 6:30am today its 9 pm. phone has been playing pandora thru BT since 10 am to 7pm still have 50% battery left. cant see how many hours of SOT. Battery life is amazing for me.
I'm expierencing same thing. Only about 4 or 5hrs sot. Something isn't right. Running 131 aoftware

Yes sure, shut down your phone. Then hold volume up and power key. Once you feel a vibration, then release the power button and keep holding the volume key. You should now be in recovery menu. Find Clear Cache. Then reboot when you're done. You wont lose any data. It will optimize all installed apps. The time awake you're referring to in the hardware section is the screen on time. You should also note that if your network coverage is bad, then consumption will be higher too. Try downloading this app to lock it in either 4g/lte or 3g only if coverage is bad in your area : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
Hope that helps. If you're still facing bad battery life, then i reckon you to do a factory reset as a last resort.

Okay, thank you very much, I will do that before my next full charge. Are you sure no data will be lost?
Ps. Update on the battery status. So it is 9:26am now, screen awake time 3:26, battery 66%, 12 hours since last charge. Only on wifi, no mobile data.

Okay thanks about the data info. But not sure whether it's fine because ppl have 7,8 on screen time and have 15-20% remaining.. I will test it today until the battery fully drains to see what screen on time will I get.. Also, one question considering the wipe cache, will it get downgraded to original emui version that was on the phone before the update or will the. 124 update still be present?

No it won't too. Firmware can't be downgraded.
just do factory reset and start over ...
Update. 16:50 now, 23% baterry, 6 hours on screen time, 19h34min since the last charge... So it was yesterday at 9pm fully charged, not a full day of without charging, not to mention two days that others are experiencing.. Tonight I will do the cache cleanup and measure the results in the next couple of days.. If no result achieved I will do a factory reset, hoping it would fix the issue..
I have done the cache clearance, but no difference at all considering the battery drain. Can you share what is the best way to save all data before doing the factory reset? Upload it on some cloud or some other way? Also, are you guys always in normal mode or do you enable power saving mode?

If you're still facing battery drain then i guess you may have restored your apps when you first setup your phone. For call logs, sms and contacts , you may use huawei's in built cloud back up and for photos , use google photos. Then factory reset and don't restore any apps from google. Start fresh.

I am exactly like you. Consistently getting 35 percent screen and 65 percent software

is this normal?

This is my first xiaomi phone "coming from s8 plus", I'm really happy with it, the only thing that annoys me is the standby usage.
As per screenshot I lost the 31% is 11 hrs and I was sleeping the whole time!
Same usage same apps same networks with s8 plus was like 5% loss.
There has to be a fix for this!
I'm thinking to unlock bootloader and try xiaomi eu, but can anyone confirm that it doesn't have this bug??

So definitely your mi9 power consumption is too high.

I think you have to root your mi9, because for every new firmware you've got to format data, internal storage and factory reset.
So make an external backup.
May be it's also possible with mi tools...... You can try....
I don't take care about locked or unlocked bootloader, means I've never tried to lock bootloader again.

Why you've got Bluetooth on over night?
So, your mi9 power consumption isn't bad but it could be better.

Question High battery drain

Hi guys. I am rocking CN version of Mi11 Ultra 12/256. It's currently on stable 12.0.10. i have allowed the application for notification and set up the system in my way to be usable by uninstalling most of the chinese ops that i was able to. Now, i can see that the battery drains abnormally it seems that the phone doesn't go to deep sleep. The second highest usage stats is android system.
Awesome phone!
It's a bit old but you can use Wakelock detector to see what is preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
I'd also try to check the logcat to see if there is some system process working in the background continuously draining your battery.
I'm also looking at that graphic, it doesn't seem like Battery Drain is much at all. The phone has been active for 8 hours and it's around 80%? Doesn't seem bad to me.
Screen and Android System are the commonly the two most battery drainers if nothing else is cpu intensive.
Yes, but it was 8 hours overnight

Thanks for the input BTW, I'll definitely check wakelock. Maybe it's just me, but it seems it's draining in my eyes.
20% overnight is indeed too much... Might it had something to do with the debloat ? Did you uninstalled the Chinese aps via the getapp store or ADB ( disable or remove )?
After I upgraded to 12.0.13 my battery did drain a bit faster the very first couple of hours. ( background optimizations i Guess ).
Today I updated OTA to 12.5.
We'll see how this goes .
Good luck to you !
You probably already checked these settings but don't forget to disable AOD (if you don't need it), WiFI/Bluetooth scanning and WLAN Assistant too as thais will help reduce power consumption slightly.
I think its normal drain...the system drain is just there for example i debloated around 30 apps and its good
Last night with everything on as during the day ( Bluetooth, wifi, mobile data, gps, nfc, etc ) it drained only 4%.
For me it's a new record
Here is mine

I uninstalled some chinese apps traditionally, so didn't use ADB download method.
Is the same that i did when i got my phone.
I went in the getapps store ( xiaomi store ) and uninstalled everything that i could there
Maibe you have some other software then installed , that isn't perfectly optimized.
My best advice is to go ahead and clear the full data for ALL the aps you are using ( including google playstore and the related services )
Also you can try to keeps the phone plugged during a night or two ( without touching it )
As i read somewhere, if the system sees that it has full battery and is plugged in after a while ( more than 20 min or so ) will start the optimizations of apps/general system ( otherwise it will try to do the optimizations during the day when it's in standby and above certain battery level )
I had some success doing this on my mi9 with xiaomi.eu, but in that case the rom version had a known battery drain
Do you have the miui optimizations disabled ( i left it enabled and haven't touched it ).
Have no issues with batter drain so far.
Good luck and keep us posted !
Did you ever fix the issue with the high battery drainage? I got my global unit last Friday (running 12.0.1) and I feel like I'm seeing a similar thing. Wanted to see what other users were averaging for screen on time. Is around 5hours of SOT with 120Hz and WQHD+ enabled decent?

Same.. i am on global with 12.0.6.
Batt drain is very bad, overnight, from 100% at 1am to 88% at 8am.

If it would happen to me i would check every app behavior closely ( battery app and maybe a third party battery monitor like accubattery that i'm using ), see if i find anything suspicious and if nothing is out of the ordinary i would do a complete reset, reinstall again and if this doesn't work, install xiaomi.eu stable at the very least .
But that's just me
on a side note, on my china unit when i was on the 12.0 the experience was not so great...
As soon as the 12.5 update came i could see a major improvement.
So maybe have a bit more patience until 12.5 will launch for global versions as well, all tough china will always be ahead in terms of improvement...which leads me to xiaomi.eu, again.

i had the 12.5 CN rom on the mi 10 ultra, it was bad, notifications were delayed or not coming in at all until i opened the app, like whatsapp.
it was working fine in 12.0
that is why i decided to go back to global rom
I don't know about mi 10 ultra but i can tell you that for me on the mi 11 ultra, it's very good.
Good luck !

Question Critical battery drain

Hello
Yesterday i had the phone around 65% at 01h00, in the next morning (around 7h20) i wake up to find the phone at 1%, no wifi/4G/bluetooth/GPS...etc was active, even the battery saver was ON. As you can see in the screenshots, android system drain battery around 400% !!! what's up with this behavior ? happened the 1st time last week (49% drained in 8 hours) the problem seems gone after i fully charge and than reboot, but still today happened.
The phone is almost 1 month old.
The 1st few days, i disconnected the phone from charging at 100% and went to sleep, after 6 hours battery is drained by 6% without doing nothing. is this normal ??? screenshot
ROM : crDroid 8, latest magisk installed+microg+magiskhide props config and fdroid/aurora modules installed.
Thanks
which rom are u using now? stock or custom?

clearly something is going wrong, I would suggest factory resetting, and optionally reinstalling your custom rom.

well, that must a bug related to optimiztion of the rom, report it to the rom mantainer
Exactly what happened to me same ROM same phone but I didn't root it. it drained from 54% to 6% during the night, next day I switched the ambient display off and the battery became better but so far I am also looking for solutions to make it similar to miui
I feel the battery is draining so much fast when I start using the apps unlike miui but the room is also great and fast , with my light use it gave me 1 day of use and remaining of 10% with 120 fps (3.3%/hr screen on and 0.6%/h screen off )
today I will test it with 60fps

No, only when charging of course (around 40°)

I'll wait and see if this bug happens again as right now i need the phone for the rest of the week, if happens again i might switch rom altogether on the weekend.

Wow, 3.3%/hr is seriously impressive for active drain, especially for 120hz. Can I ask you if you did anything special / your exact setup? I installed Ricedroid 8.0 + Sleepy kernel and applied the GMS Doze module + Naptime (as suggested by a kind poster on here), and this allowed my idle drain to go down to 0.2%/hr, but my active drain is still struggling a bit.

to be honest I am not sure if I report it correctly I have used accubattry app but I will post few screenshots from the app and you can see , I didn't do anything except disable the ambient display maybe my usage is light in default I don't know I also formatted the phone like 20 times during my testing for different ROMs. I found Cr-droid to be the best so far or miui

Ohh the 3.3%/hr is combined use, which takes account of both active drain and idle drain (through what I guess is some weighted average). But honestly, 6.7%/hr (or even 7.8%/hr tbh) is still pretty damn impressive, so I'll thank you for letting me know! Now I wanna flash crDroid haha.

I spent 1 day and half trying all custom roms in this forum because for long time I was on miui and didn't know how custom ROMs are now , after trying I found that all custom ROMs either are pixel flavored or very basic without any customization and I settled with Cr-droid because it offers best of both worlds less google and good customization options.
now regarding the battery after few days of using on 60 fps I have combined use 2.4%/hr and 0.8% screen off but I still feel that it drains fast during my usage compared to Miui , I have only used naptime for optimization do you advise me to add anything else for non-rooted device ?

MIUI very often switches off alarm (not clock alarm) and wakeups -- it's known for long. Your notifications often comes late when using MIUI. In real life situation, however you might never notice it, but it's there. It also sets higher priorities to known messaging, social media apps to receive notification/action faster than any apps that are outside "the list".
It's a good trade off for battery life compares to stock AOSP or lineage which put every apps on generic list of "optimized battery" based on your pattern. It will took a long before the pattern is useable.

I'm not sure about your possibilities on a non-rooted device honestly. I think Naptime can work on a non-rooted device, if you grant a few permissions through ADB first (if I remember correctly, the app itself will guide you through the process). Be mindful of which apps you're restricting though, as Naptime will likely cause delays in the arrival of notifications. You can whitelist apps through Android's battery restriction screen.

yes I am it currently after activation via ADB it made some improvement I felt , so far the highest consuming system apps are : Android OS [19%] screen [9%] and System UI [6%] can I do something about them ?

Hmm I don't have any further tips honestly, not about these specific things. In my case, using Naptime already improves battery life by a ton over the course of a day (not wasting entire %s in hours of idle time is already huge).
Try and see if greenify or its replacements helps.
