On iPhone it is not possible to reset the phone, while icloud tracks the device's last location.
On Android just enter the bootloader by pressing the side keys to never see your phone again.
Is there any way to make it safer?

YESTERDAY my phone locked when i turned hit the power button. i havent used a password device lock since i got the phone months ago so i have no clue how it happened. no passwords would work but i simple soft reset solved the problem.
TODAY i noticed that i didn't have a data connection like usual, since i always have push email running. opened up active sync and all server info was missing.
all i did was a system restore and got everything back to normal.
I have never had any of these problems and i figure i would share them with you in case its a bug of some sort.
every now and then my phone will say its locked; i am unsure if its a button i hit or what; but i then have to use my stylus to be able to hit the small icon that says unlock (or something like that) (it is frustrating when you are driving and the phone becomes lock and you are trying to hit that small icon with you finger to unlock it).
I must say though i have never entered a password for locking nor has my phone required to enter a password when it says it has become locked; but still is wierd that sometimes my phone says its locked and i have to exit out of the lock through the small icon (which is difficult to hit with your finger)......

your situation is probably that you are holding in the red phone button too long. that will lock the phone. mine on the other hand locks and asks for a password.
You know, I had this today. Got my phone out and the screen was much darker than normal. After a bit of prodding I noticed the left softkey had changed to "unlock".
I have no idea why this happene, though just tried holding down the red button as you said and it did indeed lock. How strange!
Yep. Holding the END key results in your phone locking. I used to use this method to lock my phone before S2U2 did it for me.
I believe pretty recently, someone found a way to re-map holding the END key. Do a bit of searching and I'm sure you'll find it.
FYI- back to the topic. has anyone experienced either situation?
I suspect its the soft on/off switch that might be broken.
First I could not swtich on the device as you would usually to operate it. So I slided the device open, and the screen switched on. Then couldn't switch of device, so i removed sim card to reset phone.
Now I cannot switch on the deivice at all. It remains off. It can charge, but it won't switch on, I've pushed every button. I have even pushed in the soft reset switch, and nothing.
How can I get the phone to operate again? Is there any other way of switching it on without the side button.
How can I get my data off, because if it goes in for repairs they will just hard reset the phone and loose all my data?
Should a push switch be able to break so easily, I can feel it clicking when pushed, I thought buttons were tested a million times before they start breaking? Has anyone had an issue like this before?
Do you get a dark red led when it's charging?
Yes I get the Red LED displaying.
How else can I switch the device on?
How else can I get the data off If i cannot switch on the device?
If I hold down the power and camera buttons, and hold the soft reset button with the stylus will this hard reset the phone and I will lose all my data, or will it give me an option and ask if I want to proceed?
I really do not want to hard reset, Im just looking for a way to get the phone on to be able to backup my data.
A way to test the power button

Well IF your power button is actually faulty, it won't matter. You do realise that holding down the power and camera buttons simultaneously (no need to use the stylus at all) is the way to get into the bootloader screen don't you? Given this, that'll be a way of 'testing' the power button (unless of course the camera button is faulty).
This morning i was using my phone every thing was good and all the sudden this message came up it said my internal memory was full
when i checked it it said its 96 mb out of 96 mb
and when i went to my documents it had no folders excpet for pictures and music
so basiaclly my internal memory went missing and i am not talking about storage memory.
Then i soft reset it and it got stuck at the green screen and even if it goes to the the next screen it just gets stuckk. I cant get it to hard reset i
have treid to do everyyy single thing searched on google watched videos on it its not doing it. Also i have not downlaoded any thing illeagal or

also if like i try to use a rom on it thats made by like you guys how do i install that??
because my phone doesnt go past windows mobile screen ???
Thanks Guys
You said you can't get it to hard reset?
Did you do it following these instructions: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Diamond_HardReset
NOTE: you will lose all your settings, contacts etc.
i have done every thing to hard reset but i cant
becuase my device gets stuck at windows mobile screen
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons "aka the center button" , then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
but it says when the device turned on my device gets stuck at that screen but i have tried like every thing
i press and hold volume down and enter and then i press reset button then i release reset button and once the phone starts it goes to diamond screen and those little numbers at the bottom of screen come up.
First, do you have insurance through your carrier? It doesn't matter where you bought it if you have this.
Second, there is another way to hard reset phone besides those instructions. Sprint Customer Care had to walk me through that, different that what is in manual.
Last resort - HTC should cover within one year, they know the age. Call, maybe "gift" (forgive me for suggesting lying, but I have done that when I can't find receipt). I have had phones covered, it has to be sent in to be replaced, a pain, but probably last resort.
Hi all.
I had a OnePlus 3T years ago, i think it was 2017/2018. The screen got smashed and i the moved onto a newer one plus device with the thought of going back to this old device to recover images that are not backed up.
I've just got around to that and i think the device is encrypted. If i boot into safe mode, or normally i am asked for a pattern. I've now reached a point where if i enter a bad pattern 9 more times it will wipe all my data.
I'm unsure if the device is rooted or not,. I also tried Volume Down, Power and home button, held it down and here it asks for a pattern to decrypt the phone.
If i enter something it goes through a loading bar of trying to decrypt and then vibrates alerting me it failed.
Is there anyway i can regain access to this old device and the images that are stored on it?
Thanks
My Google Pixel 4 XL fell from the second floor. The screen didn't break but it's now black and won't turn on. It has a small crack in the side plastic. When I connect the charger it vibrates as if it were charging. When I press the power button, it vibrates. When I connect it to my windows laptop, it shows as an "unspecified device" (see picture attached) and I can't access the memory.
Is there any way to recover some data such as whatsapp chat history or even to mirror the phone to my computer or something like that?
Thank you!
There are a lot of ways to do that but you need to unlock the phone first , do you have a lock pin or pattern lock ? Does the touch screen works ?

I have a pin. The screen/touch don't work.
Pretty much everything requires that you've done some footwork beforehand. If you had previously authorized a computer with ADB, you could use something like scrcpy to display the screen visuals on your computer. Browsing the phone storage on your computer won't work unless you've unlocked your phone. Which scrcpy could do, if ADB had been authorized.
You have to understand that your phone is encrypted by default and you have to unlock the phone to retrieve the encryption keys from the TPM. If your phone rebooted and is currently locked, you have to unlock it somehow. Even if that means tapping where you think the PIN digits should be to unlock the phone. The PIN input will have haptic feedback to tell you that you're at least doing something.
