Yes it does work for TMobile.
What app are you guys using to change these settings?
That's not the issue. How about when you have the voicemail button showing just fine but once you tap on it is says it "can't activate visual voicemail. You can still call to check voicemail"
Preference manager usually works

IF still have issue, make sure you tried using the tmobile visual voicemail, then, undo the preference changes made to the phone app, and reboot. Then, open tmobile visual mail repeatedly until it finally works (did it for me) then renable the visual voicemail prefrences,
Guys what I did to get stock voicemail to work is uninstall TMobile visual voice mail. They can't be be installed it will prioritize the TMobile app
I don't have anything like that even though I have voicemail active and working.

you need to use root or adb to change preferences using system files. you can try using adb shell command. I don't know exactly how you'd edit xml file tho. I always do it on device with root. Maybe someone will chime in

I have T-Mobile and I just made sure the visual voicemail app was uninstalled, and went to the stock dialer. Pressed settings, clicked call settings, tapped on Sim Card Slot 1, clicked voicemail, and it gave me the option for visual voicemail. Just enabled it, closed out of the app, opened it and it was activated. No root, or anything else.

Hello,
I am having issues with my Telus HTC One. I have been using it for a week and am able to send MMS pictures without issue, however I am unable to receive pictures. I am new to Android so maybe I am missing a setting. I am using Chomp SMS and have disabled all notifications and "auto receive" in the stock SMS app and have turned those settings on in ChompSMS.
However when I am sent a picture it just shows a message "Multimedia Message. Message size: xxxKb" and a button to download. When I click the button a little wheel shows up and spins for a bit but then disappears and never displays the image. I have no idea why. Even if I switch over to the stock app it shows the same thing and responds the same way.
What can I do to fix this? I am beyond annoyed at this point. If it matters, I bought my HTC One new from Telus, locked to them and purchased an unlock code online. I have also rooted the phone but am running the stock software. I looked in the "Access Point Names" and the settings match when I found on the Telus website.
I have a screenshot but am not able to post a direct link

Same happened to me. If your phone is set up like mine, like being rooted, you probably have ADB installed. Uninstall ADB, maybe try using AdAway instead, but I haven't tested AdAway yet.
Revert your APN settings back to the default
Uninstall ADB
Restart your phone.

Sorry, when I switched to Verizon last year and realized they were trying to charge Android users for visual voicemail (something I've gotten free on Sprint and ATT) I told them to shove it and switched to Google Voice for my visual voicemail needs. Never looked back.

It takes some finesse, but is definitely possible - I'm using Google Voice for only my voice mail on my Verizon Moto X. If you're interested, PM me, and I can try to help you out.
Also, I do not know how to pull .apks and am not rooted, otherwise I would.

Really? Works flawlessly here and very little finesse necessary on my part.
Set it up, make Google Voice your voicemail provider in Phone / Settings / Voicemail / Service, and in the next step when it tells you your carrier is not able to be set up automatically, just click, next, skip, whatever... then dial the numbers listed here (I dial all three just to be safe, but just using the first had worked for me early on):

You need to put the files in /system/priv-app and make sure the correct permissions are set for both files. If it doesn't show up in the app launcher, you can try installing it from that location.

it may never work. it might need some other verizon apk to run correctly for all i know. a lot of system apps that verizon or others install rely on other apps to work. thats why people are nervous when removing certain bloat ware system apps because sometimes they help other apps work.
google voice saves money and integrates with every phone and is far more useful. You can set it up to text you when someone hits your voicemail even if you failed to receive the call on your phone. No point in using vvm IMHO.

Doh. I was looking for something that worked with AOSP.
Is there a way to stop the screen from coming on with new text messages? Sometimes when I get a message I just leave my phone in my pocket, but if the screen turns on then I'll start pressing stuff in my pocket...I've already disabled notifications on the lock screen and it still does it...
Any help? Or am I just gonna have to deal with it?
You can disable it, you need to be rooted though.
Go to /data/data/com.android.mms/shared_prefs/
once in that folder, open up com.android.mms_preferences.xml
scroll down and find
<boolean name="pref_key_backlight" value="true" />
change true to false.
save, and reboot.
Make sure your messaging app does not allow that. I froze the stock messaging app and I am too lazy to defrost it and check. But some messaging apps have the option to turn on/off screen when new a message arrives.
Damn...I guess imma have to download a different messaging app...I really don't wanna root this phone just yet, but this screen issue bothers the hell outta me...
What's the best messaging app right now that I can use in place of the stock one?

I like Textra because it has the option to delay sending for a user-selectable period. If you have ever accidentally texted the wrong person, you will appreciate the value in that
But everyone has their favorite messaging app. You just gotta find one that suits your needs best.

As some of you know, 3rd party SMS apps are currently bugged and do not recieve notifications (or messages at all) on devices running the T-Mobile build of the Moto Z2 Force software. After a little bit of testing, I've discovered that this is caused by the "Summit RCS Services" service that runs in the background. Through the normal system settings, you can't disable this service. However, using adb, you can disable this package and get 3rd party SMS working. You should still be able to get updates even with the service disabled.
Step 1: Enable USB Debugging
Step 2: Install the Android Platform Tools
Step 3: Using the terminal of your choice, once you've navigated to that folder (You can just type "cd" then drag and drop the folder into the command window on Windows and MacOS) type the following:
Code:
adb shell
Then, type the following command:
Code:
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.summit.nexos.sdk.app.service
Finally, reboot the phone. 3rd party SMS applications should receive notifications.
You could also just wait for Lenovo and T-Mobile to push the official update to fix this issue, but who on XDA sits and waits when they can fix it themselves? :silly:
Can this be used to disable any app or service?

This was causing my issue with duplicate text messages when receiving a Group MMS. I uninstalled this RCS service and it fixed my Group messaging. It was driving me insane and I figured it was a TMobile APK causing it. I like RCS but would rather go without it than deal with these bugs.

Interesting.
Were both devices on the August update? It's possible that the August security patch update fixed the problem. I haven't tested as I just keep the package disabled (since Pulse doesn't support RCS yet anyways and that's my main messaging app).

Interesting. It might be that Textra supports the setup that T-Mobile requires, whereas Pulse SMS (which doesn't support any RCS) and Android Messages (only supports Universal RCS) are not compatible with T-Mobile's service. I only tested those two apps.
Would you mind trying to use Android Messages and see if that one gets incoming notifications without any package disabling?
No problems...
Interesting. It must have been a server side fix then, recently.

So lovin the phone so far. I purchased the unlocked version directly from samsung. Activated on sprint no problem however being unlocked I dont have any of their bloat ware on my phone kinda nice. However I also do not have their visual voicemail app. I found a copy .apk from this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint/themes-apps/modded-sprint-visual-voicemail-apk-t2994978
Loaded it however it does not seem to work app starts up but does not show the existing voicemail in the voicemail box. states activation message could not be sent check connection. I contacted sprint they were of no help and claim they do not even have visual voice mail. Any way was hoping somebody here far smarter than myself figured out how to get this to work. Its not the end of the world but would be nice to have the visual voicemail back.

Yes...you can...just Google Sprint VVM for rooted ROMs and extract the app from your Sprint folder in csc directory or from DevDigitel's ROM...you can edit the build prop to designate greatltespr or something like that...you will see what others have done for ROMs before...I am going to try this with my ROM in the coming week...if you need, give DevDigitel a pm as he did this for his ROM....sorry I don't have the specifics at the moment...It has been a while since I had to do it and it was a Note3....if I get done with my ROM and come up with a clear method I'll let you know how I did it...but it may be a week or so...
I actually flashed your unbranded a long time ago, and I lost voicemail notifications then, so I can wait another week. Thanks for your help
