Locked Phone - Moto X Q&A

I recently changed the lock on my Moto X4 and I cannot remember the pin. Worse, I'm not sure if I used PIN or password. Question 1 - can you used a password as the unlock of a phone or is that a pin only? Question 2- if it's a pin is there a digit limit (either minimum or maximum).
Like most people I cycle through about 5 passwords and about as many pins with various combinations of these. I feel like if I can get answers to my questions above I can probably get into my old phone. TYIA BTW I bought a new phone and transferred some data but not all. I didn't want anyone fooling around with the old Moto X4, thus the new password/pin.

[Q] SMS secure box password reset help requested.

Greetings everyone. My post is a topic that has been discussed for other phones but I did not see anything specific to my phone.
I recently purchased my used One Max on ebay and it came to me in a hard reset condition. I had a normal set up (Sprint is my carrier)and in the weeks that have past, I am at my happy place with respect to having it set up the way I want it . My issue is that the SMS secure box is password protected. I do not remember having set a password for this and every single password that makes any sense to me will not unlock it. I have perhaps a dozen different password combinations that I use and none work. I have tried all the default passwords suggested by others on other forums, phone number combinations, 1234, etc. no good. I have learned that in order to save a message to the secure box that a password must be created. I dumped a message from my daughter in there with no password prompt so I think it must have been set up previously. Anyway, I need help to unlock it.
If anyone can help, I can prove that the phone is mine. I am not apposed to paying a reasonable fee to anyone that can help. I did read in another HTC forum that rooting the phone will allow a command line prompt to view the password that is active but this was for an evo 3d and I'm not sure that the same command would work on my one max. I am not a developer but I can follow instructions to complete this task.
Please do not suggest a hard reset. I am not willing to lose all the work I done. If you have a solution that does not require that, I welcome your input.

AT&T Note 5 Network Lock Code Bypass

I am abroad for a semester. I bought another plan for when I was abroad. The new sim card came with several codes on it which resulted in me attempting too many times to unlock my phone. After a week or two, I finally made the connection that the 'SIM Network Unlock PIN' was supposed to come from my USA carrier AT&T. After hours on the phone with them, they pretty much told me my phone was a brick. Only good with wifi. I am hoping there is a way to bypass this 5 attempt limit with some changes.
I've looked for possibilities in the
Developer Options
Service Mode (Only thing that shows up is [error] <RAT_NONE>)
But can't figure out a way to work around this 5 attempt limit.
I have all of my information backed up and haven't made the final move to factory reset my phone (if that would even work), hoping that there was some other way!
Also I have not been able to figure out why my phone won't connect to my Mac computer. When connected by USB it only charges. I couldn't find the option to switch to MTP!
Any help is much appreciated!

Device Pin on Moto X4?

Did a few searches, but didn't answer my question.
My moto, on initial setup, asked for a device pin. I didn't have it/couldn't find it (nothing in the box or instructions). I was able to set it up without (been a few months, details are foggy).
I want to do some modding as I have on other phones, but going to "developer options" requires this PIN.
Additional searches this AM suggested maybe the last 4 digits of the IMEI, but that didn't work either.
I haven't changed it... where do I find this PIN?
Similarly, how do I set/edit a "Personal unlock code" (another thing that came up during my searches this am).
Thanks!
Was the phone purchased from your cell carrier? They tend to lock down those phones, so you'd have to get the code from them if so. That's my only guess; I've never been prompted for anything like that on any device I've owned.

Unlock PIN not recognized and phone blocked

Hi all, feel silly posting a question like this but I am completely out of ideas at this point.
This morning I woke up and my P30 pro asked me to unlock it through PIN instead of using fingerprint (it usually does this sometime during the day "for security reasons"). Put my usual PIN, same one I am using since 20 years on all my mobile phone... PIN not recognized. Did it again various times paying attention, still no luck.
Things I did till now:
- Rebooted and retried, no luck
- Rebooted in recovery, safe mode, retried, no luck again
I am trying to unlock it since hours and after 3 wrong attempts I am blocked for 1 hour. I am absolutely sure that the PIN I am using is the correct one, anybody in the forum ever had a similar issue? And any idea on how I can solve this?
I own it since July 2019, never did a factory reset, phone upgraded to latest rom EMUI 12. There is a way I can at least access the internal memory to save some data? Photos are backup using google photos, but I would like to keep the original images before trying with a factory reset from recovery menu.
Thanks
Hey, I have exactly the same issue today. It asks me for a pin and I use the correct pin but it does not unlock. Did you find a solution?
Hey again,
I found the solution on my side. After the update the lock screen pin was replaced with another's app password (bank app screen password in my case). In order to be able to try many different passwords you are using to access different apps on phone and bypass waiting time:
Solution
1) Find old android phone and format it
2)Set up the old phone and use the gmail account you have on your p30 pro.
3) Select to restore from gmail and it will ask for lock screen password.
4) You can try many different passwords without waiting and when the password is accepted you can use it to unlock you are p30 pro.

Hi @apoelultras , now that you are saying that to me I just remembered that exactly the day before I also changed the PIN of a baking app on my phone! In the meantime I also tried other PINs and I finally unblocked the P30pro using a very obvious PIN (my birthday date), that for instance was the same PIN I momentary put in the banking app (I usually access it using fingerprint).
But how is that possibile that an application is changing the lockscreen PIN? This is a bug of enormous proportions!
I've the same issue, but i've tried all possible PIN's i'm using, but it doesn't work for me.

Phone locked, PIN not recognized

Hello,
TL;DR: I cannot unlock my Huawei P10 device, PIN code was not changed by me, but the device does not recognize it. Need to remove PIN or push forward without resetting.
Long version: I was driving with my device connected through Android Auto, Spotify was playing and I was tracking an order through Uber Eats that should arrive a bit after I got home.
After parking the vehicle, the music died, and so did the phone. After taking the cable out and trying to restart the device, it came back up.
However, even though it accepts the SIM card PIN, it does not accept the Screen unlock PIN (which is actually the same). After rebooting, it still does not accept the PIN and I'm not waiting for 1h before I can try a new code.
In order to insert the SIM PIN, I have to press OK, but the screen PIN does not, I just add the PIN and it unlocks.
Can anyone make heads or tails out of this situation and help me recover access to the smartphone without doing a factory reset and losing all the unsaved data?

Give your girlfriend her phone back if you feel insecure about your relationship it's better to talk to her about it, if you can't do that then it's best to just leave
Also if that is your phone and not your girlfriend's then you might be giving it a hard reset unless you have developer options open with enabled USB debugging and a computer nearby

It's not my wife's phone, it's mine Plus, if I wanted to do such a thing, I just need to use finger unlock
I do have developer options open, not sure about the USB debugging, but it might not be because I've been trying with ADB and whatever commands I could find, but so far no success....
