Chromecast 3rd gen boot loop, any solutions? - Google Chromecast

Hello good people,
A month ago I bought a Chromecast 3rd gen on Ebay and it worked properly until two days ago. I saw a black screen and nothing happened. My phone was unable to detect it in Google Home app. I even tried to factory reset it a dozen times as well as power cycling it. Nothing helps. It turns on, I see a small "Chromecast..." at the bottom followed by a 4 colored dots and the Google Logo. After the logo it's just a blank screen. The led indicator is just pulsing white and then it reboots and starts the same drill again. This same situation actually happened already some 15 days ago but it started working again after just a couple of reboots, but this time it rejects any cooperation. I live in a small country and we don't have Google support here and Ebay seller won't respond to my inquiries so I would like to know if there's a way to fix it myself.
Is there a way to revive the Chromecast somehow? Can I connect it to PC via USB and try executing some shell commands or something? What about flashing a ROM?
Any suggestion will be very much appreciated.
Thanks guys,

i have EXACTLY the same problem with my 3rd gen.
However no bootloop. I have to factory reset each time for it to boot at all

That's not encouraged at all. As part our Forum Rules it is stated to search before posting as your question may have been asked before. This avoids multiple threads talking about the same issue and usually ends up in more information on the topic.
As a matter of fact this is XDA's No.1 Rule.

PLEASE HELP!!! Wont Boot - Red/Green/Blue Screen

Im really really hoping that someone can help me here
It started this morning around 10:00 or so - I took my phone out to check my messages, everything is working fine. I lock the phone and put it standby (power button) and *surprise*, it locks up and wont come out of standby
So i just re-set it (like im forced to do 20 times a day) and instead of booting it went straight to this red/green/blue screen. At the bottom of the screen it just says "Serial" but doesn't actually give a serial.
I instantly thought it was bricked, so i removed the battery and left it out for a few mins. Then i put the batt back in, and it booted normally. I used it throughout the day with no problems.
Fast forward a few hours and it does it again but now it wont boot at all (ive reset the thing like 100000 times in the last hour ive been working on it).
WTF is going on?? Im really really hoping that it isnt too screwed to fix
The last program I installed was the SPB pack, but that was over a month ago, and i use the phone every day, multiple times a day.
Oh, and to make things worse i was planning on relying on my TomTom tomorrow
and the text on that screen says:
Kais1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLID-8
And at the bottom it just says "Serial" but none is given.
This blows
Have you recently tried to flash your phone? Have you ever? If you never have flashed it or attempted to use Olipof's app, then take it to the store and demand a new one.
Do you see "USB" instead of "Serial" if you connect your sync cable to your phone when in the bootloader?
If so, I would download the latest carrier-branded rom and flash it to your device. As long as the rom is designed for your device, then you do not need to do anything special prior to running the file from your PC.

I have never flashed it but i have spilled water near it (on the counter, the phone got wet but that was months ago and has no relation to this).
Can they check if it has been wet before?
When i plug it into my computer it says USB instead of serial. Should I try to re-flash with an updated rom and see if it fixes it or just take it in?
If you find me on MSN IM ([email protected]) we can run a diagnostic & see what the problem is.

Thanks, ill give you a buzz.
I need to finish and email a few things first (shouldnt take more than 30mins).
Actually, ill just message you tomorrow or something.
Ive been really busy this week.
well did you get it fixed? what did you do?
Yikes, that happened to a friend of mine, but he flashed his and then had to reflash it. I think there is a place on the back under the battery that they use to tell if it's been wet. I would take it back, even if flashing it fixes it, you don't want it to happen again.
oh and it doesn't mean serial like a serial number, it is a serial connection.
I havent been able to get it fixed.
I think ill try to flash it this weekend and see if that fixes it
You'll only make problems worse if you reflash. I've analyzed the MTTY output you've sent me & you have a bad NAND storage blocks.
You need to follow the directions I sent to your email account via MSN IM.
DO NOT REFLASH UNTIL YOU'VE TAKEN CARE OF THE BAD BLOCKS!!!
this happened to me and someone else in XDA a while back. I saw his thread (link below) and then PMed him. I will copy / paste our PMs:

Although its unfortunate what happened to you, I'm really grateful of all the troubleshooting that you've done before me, so I know what works and what doesn't. Interesting to note that I have had the Tilt since the day it came out, and never cooked/ flashed my rom. I have been using the Tilt rom the whole time with no problems. Otherwise I'm a huge power user and have a ridiculous amt of software installed.
So after everything was all said and done, did you end up just replacing the device? Thanks again man

Anthony,
Yea I went ahead and replaced it. No matter what I did to reflash the original bootloader, and flash the original rom, I always ended up with that same problem. Did you notice that if you can't get it out of the bootloader, but you connect it to your computer, and while it's connect, you soft reset, that it boots? Just curious. that's what happened to me. Either that or I would have to yank the sim and battery, then try.
My tilt was working fine for about a month with a flashed rom, up until I started installing gobs of software on it. Just a thought. If I were you, I would get the device replaced. Especially if you've never flashed a new rom on it - it definitely should not be doing that.

My computer has been broken for a month or two. To answer your question - I haven't been connecting it to anything other than an AC outlet. Anything installed in the last couple months was installed OTA... I usually just obtain a CAB by downloading it directly onto my device.
Also, its weird but sometimes after I drain the batter with the RGB screen then recharge it (this process takes about a day) then hit the reset button, it will actually boot correctly. I am on the third time this has happened. It was bricked for a couple days, then after a combination of charging / depleting got it to boot into windows. Then it happened again, then again.
As long as I don't restart the phone it will stay in windows... If I restart then I lose it for a day or so. Interesting to note that since this has happened, phone calls connect, but I can't hear the other party and they can't hear me.
Also, I use the mini usb out to a 3.5mm stereo jack to stream shoutcast into my car stereo while driving. Last week (at the onset of my problem) the music was playing from the Tilt's speakerphone, and not going through the headphone jack as it normally would. A restart fixed this, but when it happened again a day or so later, the next restart is what got me to that boot screen for the first time.
One of us should post this in the forum...

And just an update, I never sent back my phone or did anything as far as bad blocks go. I just let the battery drain and booted it right up and now it works perfect. I have since installed a few cooked rooms and radios and have had no issues since. This RGB screen was isolated to just those few days that we were talking about in the PMs.

I had him perform a diagnostic & it reported HE HAS A BAD BLOCK! So unless you're psychic or can be sure that every problem with Boot Loader is the same as the one you had, I suggest sticking to what you know.
BTW, search the CURRENT threads, in the KAISER forum, & you'll see I've helped a few dozen people with this & similar issues.

[Q] Black screen after Flash

So here is what I have. One of my friend's girl friend attempted to flash here T849 T-Mobile tablet. I do not have any info on if she attempted with Heimdal or Odin but the result was that it would not turn off. They brought it to me and I ran down the battery and recharched it, I was able to get it into download mode and have attempted several firmwares via Odin. All have passed and installed fine. When I turn on the tablet after the flashes it still has the black/blank screen. I hear the boot sound and the soft buttons at the bottom light up as normal. Its like the screen is dead. I do not believe it is though. Any suggestions?
I have attempted the power+touching screen trick to reset. It resets fine but still no response from the screen.
Like the other ten people posting about a black screen, you have a protected bootloader.
I have been part of this community for about 5 years, I read alot on here dont post alot. I have read all the threads pertaining to that problem but have not found a solution that worked to fix it, or else I would have not posted. So rather than post a smart ass response trying to expose me as a lazy xda newb asking a dumb question how about suggesting something that I have not tried.
As stated in the first post I have done complete stock rom reinstalls and can not see an image on the screen so I can not turn the apk to unlock the bootload. So still no love. Do you have a suggestion?
Also, I have nothing on the screen at all. most of the protected boot loader stuff I have read at least has the phone exclamation triangle computer graphic up. I have nothing.
I gave him the answer and he complains about it.

Ok, you stated that other people have had a similar problem. The ways to avoid it are in several places in the galaxy tab forums. The ways to fix it I have yet to find. If you are as helpful as you are suggesting would you be as so kind as to give a tip on how it could be recovered? This is not even my tab. I would not have had this problem in the first place.

Unable to root Kindle Fire HD

Hi!
I got my kindle fire hd today (german edition) and tried to root my device. So i watched the guide on *** and read several articles and forum threads to be prepared rooting the kindle fire. Ok first of all: i might have damaged the screen, although i have no clue how this happened. One of the corner led doesn't work properly anymore. The effect is like heavy clouding on led tvs.
I followed exactly the tutorial on ****. After the first step, the processor starts to heat up and the tablet slows a bit down. After the second reboot the tablet gets really hot and significantly slows down. The screen starts to flicker and the tablet needs about 10 seconds to execute a command. After a reset to factory defaults everything works like charm except the clouding. I changed the usb port, reinstalled the android sdk and even used qemuroot. Nothing works. I am going to send my kindle back and buy another one, but i wont try to root it without solving this problem. Does anyone have an idea??
/edit as a new member i can't post any urls. The first *** is reverendkyle.c*m and the second is an article on redmondpie
Sounds like you received a defective device. Send it back.
Maybe the "German Edition" versions were those that didn't make the first round of quality control checks.

I only mentioned it because my firmware version isn't 7.21 (sorry my fault) but 7.20. Never heard of it, maybe the eu version somehow differs from the us version.

yup, it's the right advice. don't try to force any root, send the device back instead and have a new try with the next one.
The root will work for both 7.2.0 and 7.2.1, barring any anomalies with your specific device. I would use the automated root found on this forum when you try rooting next time, since it'll eliminate any possible mistakes (not saying you made any). Either way, everyone else is definitely right in saying you got a defective device. Luckily, Amazon's pretty good about replacements when you're under warranty. My own device's CPU was running so hot, it smelled like things were melting. Got it replaced with no fuss, and no extra charges.

[Q] XT925 hard bricked - battery failure during factory reset. Halp

Hi guys.
First post, apologies if it is in the wrong place.
I was given a Motorola XT925 3 days ago, running what I can only assume is the most recent version of android (i tried updating it, and it claimed it was up to date). No SIM card in, no SD card.
All was well, until I noticed an app, "media" sucking 50% of the battery. It was killing me, so I did some extremely brief Googl-ing and arrived at the conclusion that a factory reset would be a sensible thing to do to nip the problem in the bud.
Unfortunately, my battery ran out half way through the reset (derrrrrrpppp), leaving my new phone semi-hard-bricked.
The loading icon will come on sometimes if it's put on to charge after some time off charge, and sometimes the stupid little robot even pops up, with a loading bar underneath him, and a tangled blue web protruding from his abdomen. He freezes a short time later.
The power and volume buttons are unresponsive, and the whole semi-booting pattern is erratic, but things seem to happen if I leave it off/on the charger all day.
I have a suspicion that my phone in it's current state has half the operating system un-installed, and will therefore not boot correctly.
Anyway I was hoping to get some recommendations for the most appropriate next step. I will be taking it to a nearby shop tomorrow, and see-ing if the people who sold it to the person that gave it to me can help...
I have read about "flashing" devices etc, and if the shop-people can't work it out, I'm probably going to give it a try. I am running a mac as well, so many flashing programs will probably be incompatible.
Thanks for the help
tl;dr: Motorola XT925 hard-bricked following complete battery depletion during factory reset. Wat do?

[Q] Moto G 2nd Generation Unresponsive/ Erratic touch behaviour

Hello XDA,
This is my first post/question for XDA so please excuse the errors,
PHONE DETAILs :
Motorola Moto G 2nd Generation (XT1068)(India Release)(16GB/1GB)(Dual SIM)
Issue : Erratic / Unresponsive Behaviour of Moto G 2nd Gen. Screen post root (2-3 weeks post) and reinstalling XMOD .
Brief : 2 - 3 weeks back I had rooted my phone for using Xmod for COC, it was working perfectly fine for sometime i then removed xmod and then after few days reinstalled now this time a lot of issues started popping:
Specific region of screen became unresponsive
lock screen would not allow any swipe like screen got frozen
screen completely becoming unresponsive in between use
I tried the rooting procedure again on my phone but the above situation still persisted, did a hard reset/recovery via no command menu.
still the issue persists.
Some observations :
The bottom left corner is the most un responsive or erratic behaviour prone. FYI this is the region where COC's next button
is drawn which is overidden by xmod.
consistent reboots is required, lock/unlock also gives few minutes of normal behaviour.
the dock/slider is also higly prone to be stuck/unresponsive.
sometimes it works hassle free but first points spot is still many times buggy.
I am open for all suggestions and help and also have no problem with completely re installing the OS (please do provide the process).
P.S. I have attached a screen shot marking the buggy corner which is mostly down or erratic.

I have the same problem. it is not related to xmod, probably a hardware issue of the touch screen. I know because it even happened in twrp recovery once. My best advice is to turn on show touches in developer options and turn screen off and on to temporarily fix it. I'm thinking about getting a one plus two to replace it depending on the price.
Flashing stock is always an option. If it doens´t solve your problem you can still buy a new phone.
