at this stage, which is the best? Carbon or Omnirom or Lineage?
(perfer best camera, and good battery) without google, with microG
is 8.1 currently more stable than 9?
thanks
I still use the Stock MM, but I only use it for playing emulators in RetroArch, tried Lineage 16 yesterday, but there's no Dualshock 3 support, so I came back to Stock MM
The Lineage 16 is smooth and probably almost all things works, and apparently it is frequently updated, you can check for yourself, or at least read all the forum comments

Controller support is pending for review at LineageOS now: https://review.lineageos.org/c/LineageOS/android_frameworks_base/+/254092
It is likely that it will get merged into LineageOS 16 soon.

thanks for the great news
carbon 6 oreo has worked the best for me. also tried carbon pie and lineage oreo and pie. carbon pie does not have radio and lineage seemed less snappy... at least for z3 which is quite similar. i had been using existenz mm for 3 years, quite happy for locked bootloader/stock based but as years pass i find more and more apps requiring newer android. it is my daily driver.
I've used carbon 8.1 for just over a year, thought it was great.
I'm now using LOS v17 as of last week and I think it's awesome
I'm using an MM based rom, the Flyme 6 OS beta. It has some minor bugs, but I use it daily.
Can anyone explain to a noob what u mean when saying i use this i use that?
Are you saying u basically have done an installation of this type with different "OS for mobile" versions of your choice ? Which are cointained in these LOS 16 ... 17 etc and these do contain android versions?
I want to buy this one and upgrade it to 8.1 and then 9 I guess if not 10.. i doubt that 2 RAM are ok, I hope that this phone can last for 5 years AT LEAST.
thanks very much for sharing your experiences guys

Friends,
The work on Cyanogen OS/MOD 12.1 seems to be stopped.
Developers are working hard on Cyanogen OS/MOD 13.
So lets discuss about Cyanogen OS/MOD 13.
Add your suggestions, which we want in Cyanogen OS/MOD 13.

Why there are no changelogs ? last 2 Nigthlys came without any information.
Because developers are moved towards canogenmod 13
Hope next week we get CM13 Nightly`s on our devices
I think I will never buy again a Cyanogen OS phone. Cyanogen OS with MS crap and lame updates. Old S3 get CM13, ZUK Z1 still not get CyanogenMod 13 :/
Note 5 get Android 6, S6 get it and even Huawei roll Android 6 out... Huawei xD

The s3 has long been in the market, others (s6, etc) cost more than double

Don't worry. As long as I and JoaoPaulo are around you guys will have the latest Android versions.
Just get our unofficial CM13 build.
It has everything but the fingerprint reader working and even that one is only a matter of time until we get it working.

LOL! Typical for people like you. Go ahead, don't buy. Would you rather like to get constant updates with tons of bugs, or just stable and working OS.
And watch your language here.
Also Huawei is one of the greatest players on the market... You obiviously do not know a thing and all you do is rage on xda.
(Huawei made some ofNEXUS devices also. Would Google let Nexus line to someone stupid?)
Maybe it's your first Cyanogen OS phone but I use CM already for 5 years (CyanogenMod). Huawei got 200 devices, Cyanogen 4-5 and no-cyanogen-phones get CM13 Cyanogen is just clean Android, nothing special like MIUI with ton of tools.
If you can't wait for updates just start building for yourself? So do I. That's one of the opportunities you have with our Zuk Z1. At least everything is working as it should with Cyanogen Mod on it. I had a lot of phones in the past which had Cyanogen Mod but a lot of features wasn't working anymore.

CyanogenMod and CyanogenOS aren't same.
Also, they have scheduled it way before. There was already information when Cyanogen OS 13.1 is coming to this phone before you could buy it. So please just be careful and don't whine about update. Everyone would rather like good and stable update over some quick and buggy update. And only most of premium devices are getting update now , not this price range.

100% True.
To that guy that was talking without knowing anything:
CM13 was scheduled for ZUK Z1 way before i get it, and i get this device like one month ago, but they are working on it offline for sure. They prefer to get a fully working ROM to a device than give it a full buggy one. Me and @MrColdbird just could not wait more until they release their source, and i came from a nexus device (pretty sure you know that i downgraded from android 6.0 to 5.1.1 when swap devices), and we decided to work on 6.0 to give users an early experience of CM13, because we can't handle 5.1.1 anymore.
We made a almost full bringup of 6.0 devtree and kernel, and we made a port from a completely different CAF branch, in about 15 days, imagine in what time can CM do it, as they are maintaining this device. Even CM for Nexus Line and OPO (their big son), have bugs on SystemUI and other things, do you think they will even consider about making builds to another phones?
I think almost android users prefer a 100% working device with less features, than a device with newest Software and filled you bugs.
So are u still arguing?

If you are fine without a fingerprint reader for now then you can just run the unofficial CM13. JoaoPaulo will implement the fingerprint reader later in January.
Hey, I really would like to test your CM13 build. You wrote, that it is important to backup the persist-partition, if we want to change back to CM12.1. Can I do this with the 'partition backup & restore' app? And just restore the perisist partition after reflashing CM12.1? Or is it included, when I make nandroid-backup via TWRP? Thank you very much!

You can back it up in a root terminal via the following command.
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
And no, it's not part of a nandroid backup. But yes, any mean of backing up and restoring partitions should (theoretically) work.
Although I'm not entirely sure that restoring the partition in a running Android OS is possible as the partition might be mounted at the time. Restoring it via fastboot or TWRP will work though.

If you need a stable daily driver, I can only advise you to stay on Android 10 until 11 gets out of alpha phase.
Slowly features will come to 11, of which you for now will probably miss one or another in comparison to your Android 10 ROM also.
Switching to a ROM in such an early stage isn't something I would generally advise against.
If you are willing to accept bugs and can live with a minimum of features, installing and reporting about alpha / beta builds will immensely help development.
But you said you need a stable daily driver, so, yey.

Well, in the first phase of a new android release all ROMs
- Are basically the same (pure aosp with different branding)
- Have no additional features to pure aosp
- Will have many issues to sort out in general and for the respective device (like bugs, fast draining, random reboots, inconsistencies across versions).
- Might conflict or not be fully compatible with third party software (gapps, Magisk, any random app).
Any of these points might be the case still, so I wouldn't advise anyone expecting a stable daily driver to use android 11 for now.
None of these points has to apply though, as time for development passes.
If you want to urgently try out an 11 ROM and you don't heavily depend on your phone's functionality, why not do it? I also did it (and moved back to 10).
The question anyone should ask him- or herself though is: Which advantages do you expect from it?
That is, other than a higher version number...

What I'm saying isn't android 11 specific, but counts for every instance in which a new android release comes out.
It has been the same with android 6 and 7, then with 7 and 8 and so on.
Android 11 might bring functionality, stability and smoothness. But it is too early in development to expect all of this just yet, is all I'm saying.

Hey folks. I hope you guys are doing well.
I want to know that should I install custom rom on my redmi 4x? Will it create problem for my device for long term use? If not, then which custom rom is the most stable out there and fast as well. Literally which one will be the best? I want your help. Thanks!
Since there isn't any good compact budget phones out there and I had to change several apps I use because they're not compatible with the 4x's software anymore, I've been researching about this.
The most recommended ROM is PixelExperience, the main downside about it is that has been discontinued. It works on Android 10 and that's an improvement over the 7.1 we have. Here: https://download.pixelexperience.org/santoni
Another one quite recommended is Lineage OS. This one has not been discontinued as far as I know but works on Android 9. Look: https://lineageosroms.com/santoni/
With all the custom roms, just like official ones, there always will be users that say something is not working properly.
I haven't tried any custom rom, ok? I just googled a lot about the options.
Good luck.

From personal experience, I've used Lineage OS 15 and 16 since I bought this phone over 2 years ago. And it has been working great. It takes a beginner some time to get used to flashing, recoveries, testing new ROMs, etc. but that should not be a big issue. The Linage OS wiki has a very good tutorial on how to set the phone up, it should mostly work with other ROMs too https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/santoni/install
HI all, what do y'all think is the most stable and least problematic among all the custom ROMs for SPES? I'd like to know 'coz I'm tired of backing up my files and switching to other ROMs when there's something wrong with my current ROM, thanks!
In my case it is Evolution X (both Android 12 and Android 13) for a simple reason:
It is one of the few ROMs that has solved a bug with the Goodix fingerprint readers, which is that it does not let the screen turn off correctly, since it takes the FP as a button. Well, I know that Pixel Experience also solved it but I had a bad experience with that ROM.
Used Pixel Experience for 2 months. It's smooth
Been using Evolution X for a week, my only complaints are some bugs like fingerprint not working until I unlock the phone on some instances
Planning to move to CrDroid sometime next week tho, idk I'd recommend use them all and decide what you should use

Well, then back to official MIUI I suggest. Nobody can assess what "something wrong" means to you. Rom development is an ongoing process, bugs happen. For some a (slightly) lower sot is "wrong" for others the gaming performance is "wrong". I find this kind of questions difficult since more people want just ready to use roms without the more or less hassle that may come with software in development from and for the community and developed by learning hobby developers, enthusiasts or semi professionals or as often seen tech students. This is not how this all here works. I'm using pa sapphire beta for weeks now, which definitely has its pros and cons (for example). But I'm cool with it since it's stable in case of random reboots and its overall performance (nearly no sudden performance drops in general usage). Where for others the small hiccups it has are unacceptable I'm clearly happy with it (until another interesting rom or update comes up ). Long story short, it depends on what "something wrong" means individually since there are several stable and 'well performing' projects out there. Cheers
Till now the most stable rom is undoubtedly crDroid 8.8 or 8.9 Android 12... You should give a try

I actually was on cdDroid since 8.7 but then 8.9 has the goodix bug, which made the phone incredibly annoying to use, so I tried Evolution X on Android 13 and its stable, for now, but I'm probably gonna get back to crDroid when the goodix bug will be fixed.

I'm using crDroid 8.9 (Android 12) right now and I would say it's far the most stable ROM i have used on this phone
I tried all of them from XDA and out of XDA, from the lot of available ROMs, the simpler, less customizable seems to run smoother than all the rest, PixelOS v13 takes the credit. I personally prefer something more customizable, and the better for that is AncientOS-Shield, of course, it could have its cons, as the battery consumption within other things, so, finally, you'll find that you should give it a try in your own, the experience from others also can help you, to decide, not to use it, but to try it (or not)

Hi.
LineageOS 20 is now officially released, but I can't find it for Sony Xperia XZ1c.
Does anyone know where it can be downloaded?
Thanks
There isn't official Los 20 for the XZ1c, but you have the unofficial version by derfelot. It works the same as the official versions for other devices, the only differences being the lack of OTA updates and the time between updates varies. I think we're getting an update to the Los20 rom soon, since I see commits submitted in github.
Hi,
I've installed the previous unofficial version on my XZ1c, and am looking forward to the mentionned unofficial LOS20 update before I install it (I didn't see it was already available at the time I installed 19 in december). I have a question, not too silly I hope :
I've read on LineageOS website that if some developers have a running and reliable LOS version developed for a device that is not yet officially supported, they can submit their version so that then the version becomes "official" and one can get it from LOS website. Is it planned with this unofficial LOS version ? why / why not ?
Thanks
I think It's not official because the devs don't want to involve/don't have the time to become official maintainers, instead releasing updates less frequently. Basically It's a responsibility. That's what I think and personally I'm fine with the unofficial builds, these devs do a lot already.
So in theory, If someone has the skills/time to maintain this device officially, It could become one without an issue.
Let me ask another question (since this is new post):
Which of available ROMs suits You all best and why?
I Was on Havoc 4, then 5, Lineage 17, now I'm back to Havoc 3.11 but this one gets random freezes and battery heats up. Only issue I have with new releases is lack of Android Auto support.

Hi, I don't have an answer to your question since so far I've tested only lineage 19. But I'd like to ask you why you chose to go back to Havoc 3.11 even though it heats and freezes ? (Why not a more recent ?)
And what are the differences between Havoc and LOS in everyday use, what did you personnally notice / prefer ?

Ok, indeed it would add more work/responsibility to the developpers.

Hi,
I wanted to try and test Android Auto mostly to be honest.
As per differences - Havoc gives You way more options to customize whole phone (appearance), have more features (gestures, status bar, dock etc., you might even forget half of the settings after finishing configuring it), Lineage on the other hand I believe consumes less battery, appears to be quicker, is neat.
But I've tried either Havoc and Lineage on Android 12 and both works smooth. Testing Lineage 20 currently and can't say any bad word. But I'm kind of lucky with custom ROMs, never had any major issues, all worked fine always
