Simple question regarding quick charge 4.0 - Nubia Red Magic 3 Questions & Answers

Any idea where I can get a UK 18W quickcharge 4.0 charger, I cannot find one anywhere but 3.0 are abundant.
Maybe I'm missing something and 3.0 is what I need but the device specs states it supports qc 4.0 so I'd like to take advantage.

Qc4.0 actually works beyond the 18W capacity. Try chargers from Baseus on Ali Express. I got a 30W QC4 and charges from 0 to 100 in 85 mins.

3.0 or 4.0 doesn't change the charge time. The wattage, that is 18W, or 27W or higher, is what changes with better chargers.
In other words, the charging version is irrelevant. The charging wattage is what makes the difference.
At the same time, I would stick to strictly manufacturers' chargers. Knockoff cheap chargers can potentially blow up your phone.

I'm pretty sure that we do not have QC3 that supports beyond 27W. Yes, wattage is everything, but so is the technology to achieve it. Nubia too sells a 30W charger for RM3 on nubia mart website.

The charger that came with the phone is a two prong eu plug. I'm going to order a high wattage charger, as for knock offs I only ever buy anker or aukey, I'd rather that my house didn't burn down.

can we use Quick Charge chargers? (I believe the answer is no)

Everything I can find says that the only way we can "quick" charge is with the official OP Dash charger?

As far as I know, this is correct. Dash Charge and Quick Charge are entirely different technologies that are used to accomplish a similar goal.
I believe that you can still use the QC charger, but as a normal charger. Just like Dash Charger when plug other phone in, it just turn into normal charger. But there is a potential problem here, Dash Charge works by pumping a lot of amps and keep the voltage the same, while Quick Charge doing it vise-versa, and QC is a technology develop by Qualcomm, meaning the SoC itself in the OP3/3T would support it, it just the rest of the hardware do not. If for whatever reason, the QC charger still provide more voltage than 5V, it could damage the phone. I don't know what is the max voltage the 3T can take before it get damage. If you want an official answer, get it from OP.
USB C plugs will work from what I've read, but nothing will quick charge but the Dash chargers--just normal chargers. Which is fine for me honestly, I use a regular charger at home (overnight) and keep the dash charger with me for work/etc where I need to pump juice faster.
That's dumb....I was hoping for quick charge 3.0 support plus dash charging. GAH! I might get a dash car charger then....I use my phone a lot. I like being able to charge fast while I use GPS. I use GPS a ton. And my new portable charger....QC 3.0.... That part of it is useless now.... grrrrr, but is this verified?
Maybe we all should contact Anker, and ask for Dash Charge support. What I very want is the multi ports car charger with at least one Dash Charge. But such charger do not exist anywhere.

Would love to see some 3rd party support.. in principle the idea of moving this function outside the phone seems appealing... but I hate only having 1 vendor to buy from... and I'm not even clear.. can I use the Dash charger to charge my non-OP devices? (ie. reducing the # of gizmos I have to travel with).

I've been using an anker QC 3.0 charger on the OP3T and it charges fine.
it doesn't get hot, doesn't say it's fast charging but it seems to charge at a reasonable rate nonetheless.

I'm interested in knowing if the voltage/amps/whatever are going to mess with the OPO battery that's not rated for the Q3.0.
Does anyone know if USB-PD charging would on the 3T? I ask this because as a nexus 6P user i have a number of charging accessories, and USB-PD is baked into the USB-C standard. So logic would dictate assuming the 3T conforms to the standard it should be able to charge at 5V 3A, which would be slower than dash charge, but quicker than the average charger.

I have a 7 port anker usb3 hub that has 2 charging ports and a 2amp 12v wall wart. It charges just as fast as the OP3T charger. Full charge from 50% after work in under an hour.

This is something i haven't seen mentioned or confirmed in all the reviews i have read. I have read reviews of other xiaomi devices that said it was qc 3.0 enabled, but the charger that ships with the phone is not a quick charger and the user would have to buy their own to take advantage of this feature.
so does anyone know if the charger we receive with the mix is in fact a quick charger as the mi mix is on the devices that is qualcomm quick charge 3.0 enabled.

That site quoted 83% in 30mins, I am not getting that, not even close. I bought the anker USB C quick charge charger which suppose to be quick. I don't feel quick at all...

yes, as i posted i am well aware the phone is quick charge 3.0 capable. my question though is the charger that ships with the phone a quick charge charger. there are other xiaomi phones that are also quick charge but the user has to provide their own quick charger.
if i were to guess i do not think this charger is a quick charger based on my results compared to my nexus 6.

I got an Aukey QC3 5-Port Charger.
I'm trying to get my device empty right now (tough though as it lasts pretty long) and will test it afterwards.

I compared the included charger with my Anker quick charge 3 charger using the Ampere app.
The given stats were marginally better with the included charger.
I'm not really sure what all the figures mean but they were there or there abouts the same, the Anker charger is Qualcom QC3 certified.
Not nearly getting the quoted charge times though with either charger.
At 53% it claimed 44 mins to 100%
Yes, it ships with a fast charger. It delivers:
5V - 2.5A (12,5W)
9V - 2A (18W)
12V - 1.5A (18W)
So yes, it's a QC2.0 fast charger.
I'm currently at 69% and on the normal charger it's 3 hours+, on the QC2.0 charger I have, it's 1.5 hours and it gave me the same for the included charger. Kind of disappointed that it's only 2.0.
after seeing how insane the battery life is on this phone i just went with the qi wireless charging usb C adapter and I have no plans on going back, works awesome.

What I dislike, and you can't use is the Wireless Charging with your phone and case, and a metal plate stuck to the back of the phone. You see, I really like the various magnetic holders in the car (I have one that works with the CD Slot of the vehicle to mount the holder, another that is a little ball mount that sticks to any flat service). They use a thin metal plate to mount to the back of the phone case, and the magnetic is part of the phone mount that is in the vehicle. If you place the phone with the holder and the metal plate on the wireless charger base, it will overheat both the charging base and the phone.
I REALLY like the magnetic phone mount, and do like wireless charging but it a moot point if you have a mounting plate on the back of your phone or case.
I am using amperage and I own two qualcom version 2.0 chargers one from my Nexus 6, and one I bought on amazon. The OEM Nexus 6 draws about 1.6amps on charge, and the Anker 2.0 draws under 300 mAH. The computer 3.0 USB port from a desktop draws 370mAH to charge the phone.
I will probably invest in a true oem qualcom 3.0 charger.
Pretty cheap of Shomi to not include a 3.0 charger

get a Pioneer Appradio that mirrors your phones screen and problem solved. now that i'm so used to it i can't imagine my phone's screen not being the screen of the head unit in my car everything is right there makes it so much easier

I'm revising my previous post, it seems that the provided charger may indeed be a QC 3.0.
I've been reading that if you use USB-c to USB-c cable instead of the provided USB-a to USB-c cable, you actually get charge rate.
I've also been reading up on the QC 3.0 vs 2.0. Both will max out at 18watts. But 3.0 has a variable voltage whereas 2.0 is fixed at 5V, 9V and 12V. You can see that in the below link, there's a nice table of Watts for each QC.

However with USB-C to USB-C, it can charge at full 29Watts. That's a huge difference.

it says 48W of power, and allocates 19W for QC 3.0 which means the other Type-C port is allocated for 29Watts.
So I think I'm going to be looking for something with a direct USB-C port as a charger.
Certainly, this may be all for not if the Xiaomi Mi Mix is limited to 18W of input anyways.
I have the Anker USB-C to USB-C charger, my initial testing indicate that the original charger (China Plug) and my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge charger (UK Plug) are capable of doing 23.8 Watts max, i tried to monitor the difference and what I noticed is the Mi Mix original charger seems to be adjusting the charging power more often (not really sure why and whether it's good). My Anker USB-C to USB-C went up to 28.9 Watts Max. All chargers seems to scale down their charging rate after battery reach 80%+ so I think the best way to test is to empty the better and start from 0%. I doubt I will be doing that test though as it's quite hard to empty battery on Mix and I am pretty happy with my Anker charger so don't think I will be using Stock one or my Samsung one.
Unless I go on holiday with multiple devices that still use old USB port, Anker USB-C to USB-C is my go to charger.
So I think what you confirmed was that the mix can take power at 29 watts.

Is there an app I can use to see if this phone is quick charging ? I have a Google pixel charger USB c to USB c. Trying that out now .I can't really judge because this phone is at least 1000 mAh bigger than what I'm used to lol.

That's what I'm using too! I was at 24% battery, went to sleep for 4 hours with it charging, and I'm only at 74%. There has to be a way to know when we quick charge lol

USB-C PD vs Adaptive Fast Charge?

Does anyone happen to know which one charges these phones faster? If I'm not mistaken, Adaptive Fast Charge is basically QC 2.0 right? So wouldn't USB-C PD be faster?
My phone hasn't been shipped yet, otherwise I would test it out myself.
The phone only supports Samsung's Adaptive fast charging, so using a USB-C PD charger won't make a difference.
It also supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 as fast charging, just like the S8 and S9s.

S10 devices only support 2.0. your previous post said it supports 3.0. it does not.
Any charger will charge the phone, but not faster than the specs allow. I can have a 25w charger but my S10 will not take the 25w capacity

Why would I go through all that just to prove what we both already know. You even said it yourself that it charges as fast as wall adapter. Wall adapter that ships with the phone is NOT 3.0, so what are you trying to prove exactly? Wall adapter charges at 2.0 amps.

You need to contact Samsung and let them know this, I'm not sure they're even aware of this feature.
chill guys, its cause QC is backward compatible.. so using QC3.0 you will get fast charging up to QC2.0.. not too sure about USB-C PD but i can confirm when using USB-C PD charger, you will get fast charging as well.. not too sure which is faster.. probably the same if the charger can charge up to 15W which is the official max charging speed for S10 btw.
edit: i use the same USB-C PD charger for nintendo switch and S10+

Obviously Quick Charge 3.0 would be backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0. There's no such thing as "Quick Charge 3.0 only." If there was, boy would we have a lot of fried/exploded devices as they received more current than they were rated for.
Haha did you guys even look up what QC 2 and QC 3 were? They aren't that much different, just the step size. Both have a max of 18 W. You would need a volt meter to prove the phone was QC 3 compatible, showing it charging at a voltage that was not near 5, 9, or 12 volts. As far as I'm aware, the S10 either charges at 5V with Fast Charging disabled, or at 9 V if fast charging is enabled. That would adhear to the QC 2 spec, not the QC 3 spec, since it can't do voltages between 5 and 9. If the S10 gets an update for 25W charging, I believe it would charge at 12 V. Still, only QC 2 compliant, but not QC 3.
USB-C PD can go up to 100 W. I think 45 W and 90 W for laptops is pretty common. The Huawei P30 Pro can supposedly charge at 40 W.

Guess they were having a hard time understanding that QC 3.0/2.0/whatever give the fastest charging speeds that S10 can handle.
On my S9 with Nintendo Switch USB-C PD charger I couldn't get 15w, just 10w (aprox. 5v and 2a).

Just read what I said: that QC 3.0 charges also give S10 the fastest charging speeds it can handle, NOT QC 3.0 WATTS/SPEED/WHATEVER.

Thats likely because you have fast charging disabled. USB-C PD chargers should be capable of charging at 9V 1.67 amps (15W) the same as any QC 2.0 or QC 3.0 or Adaptive Fast Charging capable device. They are just different standards.
Haven't tried using the original charger yet, but my s10 charges on my usb pd capable charger for about 1hr and 20 from 15% to 100%
I'm able to charge up my S10 with a QC. 3.0 power bank and car charger in about the same time as the stock wall charger.

Do Power Delivery (PD)-only chargers work with the Mi 9T Pro, and if so, at what speeds and which PD version does it support?
Can't really find any tests on this online, I'm surprised it's not standard to be honest -- using one single PD charger for everything is fast becoming the norm.

Yes. Qualcomm QC4+ adheres to PD standards, it's the first time they've done so. Xiaomi haven't used any proprietary charging, they've relied on QC4+ baked on the SD855. You'll get up to 27W charging, depending on the charger and battery level. I find I'm only getting 27W when the battery is very low, normally it's 24W until it's nearing full, but that might be how my charger chooses to deliver the juice.
Not sure what PD version it's using, but I'm sure a Google/Wiki search on Qualcomm QC4+ will provide an answer somewhere.
Edit: a quick look on wiki says that it's PD 3.0

You might've just helped me to make my final decision to get the 9T Pro then. The only thing I'm still hesitant about is the lack of HDMI-out and color-notification. If this phone had color notification and HDMI-out... my lord.

I went for a bit of a gamble on AliExpress and got this one.

It was a brand I hadn't heard of but had good reviews and was cheaper than the known brands. So far I'm happy with it, does exactly what it says on the tin.
For the price there's nothing much to complain about, you start adding on all the nice to have extras and suddenly the phone would be half as much again.

Not so sure regarding the price, although it's a bit difficult to weight the pros and cons sometimes. Take the Black Shark 2, which is great, aside from the absence of NFC, and no bootloader unlocking, but it's around the same price. Putting a color led in there and HDMI out, that would've made the phone pretty much unbeatable, even if it cost 50 euro or so more. It's definitely making me hesitant to purchase, because what if a 9T Pro equivalent comes out with those two things extra for 50-60 euro more? I would be gutted

Yes, the QC3 port only delivers 18W max.
I'm resuming this thread because I'm really confused on how get 27w charge on my Mi 9T Pro.
I'm using a UGreen USB-C cable that supports 60W Power Delivery charge with an Aukey 27W power adapter (ADEQ-ES-PA-Y8-B) with PD 3.0. The maximum current I get (verified using Ampere app) is about 3.150mAh which is the same I get using three different Quick Charge 3.0 power adapters, the only difference is when I use the QC3.0 adapters the phone shows "Quick Charge" text on lock screen + double flash symbols on the battery icon and when I use the PD charger I have no text in lock screen but only the double flash symbols on the battery icon.
Does anyone know if the "Turbo charge" is achievable only using the original Xiaomi 27W Charger?

It's no good looking at only amps. You need to know what voltage is being delivered too.
Watts = volts x amps
I have 2 PD chargers and both charge the phone at the full 27W, when the battery is empty.
I have a 30W PD wall charger which delivers 27W as 12V at 2.25A, but my 30W PD car charger delivers 27W as 9V at 3A

You can get apps which show volts and amps when charging. Search for Ampere in the play store, written by an xda member, I believe.
I'm using Havoc ROM, which shows these on the lock screen when the phone is charging.
However I've seen people say that these may not be accurate and suggest only USB meters give true figures. I've never tried a USB meter, so couldn't say if the figures I see are accurate or not.

21w charging

This phone supports 21w charging, but it is only shipped with an 18W charger. (This charger seem to be able to give out 5V, 9 V (2A) and 12V (1.5A).)
Anyone have information on what version of USB-PD the phone supports? And what voltage is used to obtain 21w?
Has anyone got 21W charging working? As not all higher wattage usb-pd charges may support the 21W mode that this phone needs.
Well I can tell you do not use anything above Sony's recommended charging °W because anything above that - even with PD -- the device will intensely heat up.

Sony report 21W charging. So I'm not asking to go above Whats recommended.
I am asking more about the actual charging methodology, as the usb-pd system can be a bit complicated. And even a 45W charger may not correctly 'handshake' at 21w unless it's got the right voltage to offer.
Anyone?

My Xiaomi 30W 1A1C charger (which supports USB PD 2.0 over the C port I believe) negotiates 7V/3A to hit the 21W.

Nice. That is an interesting combination. I thought it might do it at higher voltage.
How are you measuring it? I'm thinking of getting a usb measuring display.

Me too, I thought it'd be doing 12V/1.8A or something but 7V/3A makes sense. Definitely should make sure the cable is quality enough to support 3A. As an aside, the phone charges at 5V/1.5A for all non USB-PD compliant chargers.
I measured with a super cheap USB C meter that I've been sticking into random chargers for curiosity sake. Highly recommended :laugh:
Ok, ordered an Usb pd 3.0 charger today, the Arcanite one. As it also has a PPS option.
Also ordered as usb c power meter.
Let's see if it does the same voltage combination with this charger.
I just looked more into the USB-PD spec and I believe you'd need a PD3.0 compatible charger to hit the 21W since the charger needs to support PPS to hit 7V/3A. Otherwise I'm assuming it would negotiate to 5V/3A or 9V/2A if the charger doesn't have a 7V step.
So got a charger with PPS support (a USB-PD 3.0) an up to 30w charging. An Anker USB c to c cable with 60W support.
And using a satechi voltage / current measuring device.
But something isn't correct. It could be the usb-c voltage measure.
Using the supplied 18W charger, it's displaying 5.27V, 2.78A. that's roughly 15W. ( Picture attached).
Using the new 30W charger, it's displaying 6.44V, 2.77A. that's roughly 18W. ( Picture attached).
Still need to do more testing, not sure why I'm getting these readings. A bit below what I was expecting.

What battery % is your phone at? You also have to remember that the closer the phone is to 100%, the charging speed will slow down.
I have an Anker 30W charger and can charge at speeds of at least 3500 mAh (based on Ampere reading).
The battery was around 35%. Yes you are right once it got over 50% the charging rate does show down a bit.
Also the Ampere app was displaying 3600 or 3500 as the current. But even if we calculate that, that's only about 18W. But that app isn't very good at measuring charging voltage or current.

I have the Samsung EP-TA800 25W charger from a Samsung Galaxy A71 5G. On low battery with my USB tester, I measured 22W (9V/2.5A) when charging my A71 but only 15W (5.5V/2.7A) when charging my Xperia 1 ii. Were you able to do better with this Samsung charger?
In fact, I have been testing all my PD chargers (about a dozen in total -- I might have a problem!), and none has been able to charge my Xperia 1 ii at more than 18W. That's certainly decent, but it would be nice to get the 21W that the hardware is capable of.

I've finished my tests.
Both Sony charger 18W and Samsung EP-TA800 25W charger take 37 mn to charge from 20% to 70%. So, the extra power of the EP-TA800 cannot be used by our device, it does not provide the correct electrical intensity...
Finally, I've ordered the ARCANITE Premium PD 3.0 QC4 PPS 30W charger as mentionned above.
I've received the ARCANITE Premium PD 3.0 QC4 PPS 30W charger and I've done the tests.
To charge from 20% to 70%, the Sony charge takes 37 mn and the ARCANITE charger takes 36 mn (tests done in aiplane mode).
The small difference occurs below 50%.

Thanks for the update. It seems like the ARCANITE might not be delivering the 21W as hoped.
I also ordered yet another charger, the Baseus BS-C915, which allegedly supports PPS. The PPS designation appears in some pictures, but the specifications describe only a range of voltages (3.3-11V @ 3A).
With the Baseus, I get just under 18W (6.6V @ 2.7A) when charging my Xperia 1 ii. It's kind of strange that Sony claims 21W charging but doesn't include a 21W charger and doesn't even provide the specs for one!
