Hard resetting my P10 after two years? - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

i've had small issues in my p10 which i bought in late 2017, which is fast battery drain, some little performance and os issues and my memory is quite full (im on 64gb int. and using dual sim network). and i think i will not yet upgrade for the next 3-5 years (budget issues) and if ever i upgrade it will be another high end phone .
Im contemplating on hard resetting my phone just to refresh it back from the start and hope to fix the battery and performance issue and delete unnecessary apps and redundant files.
for short back to a "fresh clean slate"
is there any issues that I may get?
can I still update it to emui 9 after hard reset?
is it quite worth it?
Thanksss

Just do a backup and hope it will restore everything with no issues (I still don't know wether you have to restore Google's or Huawei's backup first).
Of course you'll receive further updates, hard reset doesn't change the system version! And yes, it may fix battery drain issues as long as they're software related.

[SOLVED] All of a sudden I get horrible battery drain.

I am running the stock V10c ROM with 0405 Baseband and root.
Until recently I had little to complain about, but since last Saturday my phone has a horrible battery drain.
It turns off within 6 hours after I unplugged it even tho I did not use it and it was sitting calm in my pocket. This happend for the third time now since Saturday.
I was suspecting the recently installed Vlingo or Google+ Apps, but after removing them I still have the same issue. I recalibrated the battery yesterday but the Phone turned off again today.
I recharged it just now and it got incredibly hot like it has never been before.... this is very strange.
Anyone else experiencing something similar?
Have there been any recently updated Apps that are said to cause battery problems (Google Maps got a recent Update...)?
Any suggestions?
(I hope that damn OTA update comes soon and fixes this otherwise I'll have to update it manually or will have to install a custom ROM.)
EDIT
I flashed MoDaCo's MCR Fr19 and the Problem is gone.
I guess a factory reset would have solved my problem as well, but since I had all the work with backing up and restoring anyway I have chosen to go with a nice custom ROM.
Everything works like a charm again!
I used to get horrible battery drain, and generally the battery stats would have a mind of their own and change at random..... sometimes a phone restart would fix this, sometimes not. This was the biggest problem I had with the phone, but by no means the only problem.
I was always on stock, but since flashing the newest Modaco ROM (FR19) I've not had a single problem, the phone actually works as the piece of high-tech gadgetry I expected it to in the beginning. It's been nearly 2 weeks since switching to a custom ROM, and finally I'm loving this phone. I was reluctant to do it earlier as I waiting for the official LG updates, but after all their tardiness I decided enough was enough and went Modaco.
My advice: if you're unhappy with the phone as it is, try at the very least 1 custom ROM (both Modaco and Cyanogen are popular) and see if it improves your experience.
I have this problem too sometime
Only solution is to turn off the phone and turn and everything become normal
But after sime day if use same happens again. I suspect there is a program start to run in bg non stop
Btw i am in fear edition 12.2

Ermmm.... correct me if im wrong, but to my knowledge v10c roms uses 622 RIL.. which has a 622 basebnd too.. why are still on 405 baseband? I really recommend 622 baseband as its the least power hungry baseband I've used since 405, but then again, some other factors might affect ur battery too.. but alot of ppl give positive comments on 622 baseband
.. shld give it a try.

Thanks for your replies!
@Crofteh
I am generally a big fan of custom ROMs and always used one on my last android phone, but I liked the stock LG ROM enough to keep it until Gingerbread would arrive. I hoped to test official LG GB without wiping and then upgrade to a GB build of MoDaCo or CM.
That is what I thought, but who knows how long LG will still need for GB.
@Netuser
Thanks, I also suspect some App to uselessly run non stop as the phone feels warm near the camera, which indicated SoC load.
@tablights
I have the unbranded German version which came with a V10b ROM and a baseband number I forgot. After updating via the LG PC tool it changed to V10c and 0405 Baseband. Since that there was no official Baseband update for my phone. As far as I know, the German Vodafone branded phones got the 622 Baseband in last weeks update.
I will try to manually update to V10e via KDZ updater since it apparently does not wipe in the procedure.
Should the issue still persist I'll give MDC r19 a try.
I think the best bet to avoid the heating problem is to remove the micro SD card. Or try another one not greater than 8G. Don't use 16G or 32G - less costly for you if it burns out.
How is that related to the SD card? My 16GB card worked flawlessly all the time.
Same here
Hi,
I had exactly the same Problem, Phone got incredibly hot, was always warm even in airplane mode and died after 5h in stand-by. I tried all Basebands, different ROMs, reseted the battery stats several times, tried charging and uncharging several times. I logged the battery usage and got it down to maybe 20mA which should give me something like 75h in standby, still the phone shut off after 5-6h. I didn't use a SD-Card so it had nothing to do with that and it didn't change with different Software so i'm sorry to report: it may be a hardware problem. Either the battery broke or the handset itself didn't survive the temperature and is now draining (you could try another battery).
I sent my in and DHL lost the packet so no more Info from my side
btw, i also had the german version bought at Amazon.
Good luck finding the Problem !
I hope it won't be necessary to send it in. At the moment I am trying to rule out all possible causes. I signed out from the google labs project that lets you download parts of maps, since I activated that shortly before the problems begun and I could imagine that constantly downloading maps could cause high battery drain.
I have no time to do a custom ROM install including all backup and restore stuff atm as I am busy writing my diploma thesis for the next two weeks. But I will try that if nothing else helps. If that does not help, I will send it back.
Did you get an replacement or a refund?
If you got a replacement, does it have any issues like backlight bleeding ?
If you got a refund, did they pay the price you bought it for or the price it costs now? Cause there is a steep difference in price from then to now.
Juice Defender?
I had the problem and the problem is solved after I install juice defender.
I'm still in the process of getting a refund.
I think they will pay what i payed. But it is exhausting getting them to do anything and while i do that I'm back to my good old and terribly slow G1
Good luck with that!
Would be nice if you could let me know how this was resolved so that I can decide what is the best way to go should things not get better.
Thanks!

Many many problems with KitKat update, what are my options?

I am stock, unrooted, and I installed the KitKat update a couple of weeks ago and my phone is absolutely terrible now.
1. Getting the "no-sim" (no sprint sim, no 4G for you!) error message, which I have never gotten before on this phone. I get the error intermittantly after installing the kitkat update
2. Battery drain is substantial, about twice the rate of what it was before
3. Phone runs much warmer than normal
4. Very bad reception, texts and calls not going through. I used to be able to get full bars 4G in my house, now I don't even get 3G after the update, and I had a 30 minute phone conversation from my house the other day and I dropped the call 4 times.
I thought maybe it was just a tower issue but it's been like this for the past few weeks. I've tried doing a PRL update, profile update, etc. but nothing helps.
Is the reception issue a problem with the most recent PRL update?
If I root the phone and install a custom ROM will this address my problems? I've rooted my tablets before but not a phone. Would going over to CM solve these issues?
I had the same problem way back on this phone and it was the SIM had gone bad. I would definitely expect that yours has just gone bad. That would cause your battery to drain due to constantly seeking network but SIM won't register. Which would also likely cause the excessive heat too.
I hope this is all the problem is for you. It was a simple fix at the Sprint store. Good luck!!!

take the sim card out and clean it maybe? and do a factory reset after you backup?(of course, unless you root and use some software to backup, all other backup methods just won't help too much)
Reason been, I had the total stock phone when I did the KK update on Feb 1st I think, and I didn't see any problem other than somehow enabled my google voice. No signal problem(same s..t as the dec update last year, before that it was even worse) and no battery problem(turned on the stock battery saving)
I had problems (2) and (3), and a few others, since installing the update. In my case, the GPS receiving notification would flash incessantly, and Location Services seemed to be the battery drain culprit, I could dramatically reduce the drain by turning the GPS off (not a great solution).
The answer, at least in my case, was a hard reset. I did that, reinstalled my apps, and the GPS / battery issue has gone away. I was also having other intermittent weird issues that have gone away since reinstalling. I guess the upgrade must have corrupted some things...

Hard reset your phone and clean the SIM card. You should be all good then. Kit Kat should have the opposite effect on your battery life. I usually get 10+ hours on a charge. Matters what I'm doing with my phone.

Just wanted to add that my phone has suffered from none of the issues above. I'm using it on a GSM network in India and running InsertCoin Rom. Everything works well. Battery has been decent and I can easily pull 12 hrs plus

So I did the factory reset this weekend. Just to confirm, the factory reset reverts me back to KitKat, not Jelly Bean, which was what the phone originally came with. Just want to confirm I did the reset correctly.
I dont think you can downgrade from KitKat to Jellybean not on stock atleast.

when you took the OverTheAir upgrade package, it will get into bootloader and change(upgrade) your phone's ROM(not really Read Only Memory any more, but still carry that name) and from then on, you will have to use the bootloader to reload the old jelly bean to get back to JB, otherwise, no matter how you reset, it'll be KK. (the reload process requires special files and procedures, with computer and USB cables) Although "factory reset" won't revert back to the "original factory settings" that came with the phone at the time you bought it, it will wipe out all the settings and apps and anything that's not set by the factory default. After the so called factory reset, your phone will get into a state that the "factory" testers have, which should be a stable state because the "factory" supposed to do a lot of tests based on that state and pass all those tests. This will give you a nice baseline about which could be wrong, the hardware, the network, or the software. Though, it won't be always true because human make mistakes, so the "factory" could release a software that's buggy. like the one we got on last dec, but still, once you get to the so called "factory" state, which all the other phones using the same hardware and software will get to the same point, you can be sure that no other unknown factors are causing your problems. It's like you have the exact same thing on your hand as somebody else on the other side of the planet, so other people can do the tests required to figure out your problems. Will that help you for some apps you want to run that crash your phone or cause big problem? No, that's the responsibility of the apps' developers, not the phone manufacturer. in that case, you'll have to give up that app.

Phone running hot on NG3

Has anybody else noticed the screen or the phone in general letting off a lot of heat ever since updating to NG3?
Yes. Call at&t support. I had mine completely replaced because of it. I unrooted then took it to their warranty office. They tested it with one of their batteries, then tested my battery on one of their s5's, and determined it was a bad phone. I had gotten mine back in June and was still covered under warranty on their 12 mo next plan.
I'd recommend a factory reset before warranty/swapping the phone. Upgrading through ota is similar to a dirty flash. Sometimes things don't take to the update and just need a simple data reset to fix it. A software upgrade should not cause sudden hardware damage.

Ram management problems after VIE-AL10 rom update to B397 ?

Anyone with VIE-AL10 device facing problem of apps closing down in background after the OTA update to B397 ?
I sent a query to customer service. They asked me to do a factory reset and im trying not to go that route.
No.. my device is working alot better. Battery is also lasting longer and camera update with the live/moving image is functioning pretty well. Overall function is spot on for me and my device. My issue seems to be the frame drops and other UI issues.
Never had to do a factory reset whilst by bootloader has been locked for the ota updates, but if your device is giving you problems it might be that time to bite the bullet and do a factory reset. I'm also going to be parting with my AL10, it has served me well but time to downgrade as I'm leaving the UK in the next 3 months or so...

Steps to get Nokia 5 working great

Alright guys.
I must admit,, I was ready to give up on this phone. After owning several very high spec phones, for their years , I found myself having to get a "budget " one.
This phone was the worst I had used. Constant slow down to the point of waiting 20 seconds for an app to even bring up keyboard, battery useless, all after the 8.1 update. However not the case now. How? Well . .
My phone went into a bootloop of just showing "no command". I sent it to Nokia repair, in Hungary, via DHL. for a 5 day turn around repair. I got back the same exact phone. They had put on 7.1.2, as the factory restore image I guess. I debated about updating to 8.1 then took the plunge and did so - a big 1.8GB update. Then, to my amazement, it installed - one after the other - all security updates up to November 1 2018. I previous hadn't had any since May. Took quite a while. Reboot for each one, etc. After November went on I rebooted, and then did a reset to factory via recovery.
This phone has a new lease of life. Seriously no slowdown, multiple apps, vastly increased battery life (granted it's only been 2 days, but still you can tell it will be), the speed is vastly, vastly improved and is something that I was not expecting.
So, maybe we should all get our phones a bit cranky (get them in a boot loop), make sure it's in warranty and send it for repair. One thing I have noticed is that they put on the default stock WW rom (which was not the case previously). That, I assume, is what has resulted in a new lease of life - and updates - for the phone.
Thanks
It worked for me, expect that i didn't brought my phone to Nokia service.
I did noticed that the phone was really really slow even just on opening apps, it's a nightmare that considering there are phones cheaper than this and just works fine with apps.
They said that the updating to oreo will make it slow in some cases, i can't tell due to when i bought the phone, i immediately updated to Oreo
So i stopped the security updates from July cause i wanted root so bad that i was even planning to downgrade the thing, reasons are both i want the old speed back to this phone and root access.
But after i saw this post, i was curious... So i updated the phone to the latest security patch. And now it works great!
I can even play PUBG really smooth (which I can't back then)
