Hi guys,
I've recently purchased my first Xiaomi device, the Mi9. I'd like to install the xiaomi.eu rom and thus have to unlock the bootloader. Now, whats does unlocking the bootloader really mean? Do I lose some of the native functionality of the phone (find the device, fingerprint, high level security apps such as banking apps, etc)?
I can't really find no specific info about that. As far as I know by unlocking the bootloader no varranty is void. Is this info right?
Sorry in advance if my question may sound noobish but it is my first Xiaomi device.
I think you lose Widevine L1

Because of many threads for bricked devices, I`m opening this thread with all questions about risk and solutions (if there is any).
Q1: Is CN version with unlocked bootloader and Global Rom installed will recieve OTA update without problems like re-locking bootloader?
Q2: If everything from Q1 works, what problems we should expect because of unlocked bootloader?
Q3: Is it possible to disconnect device from seller account, flash CN ROM, re-lock bootloader and bound your Xiaomi account in device to be able to unlock it again?
Q4: Can we expect in future solution for re-lock CN version with official global rom or it is impossible at all?
This is what I`m concerned mostly. For sure there is other questions I missed, but this is basically
Q1: Yes (well I read it in the Mi 8 forums)
Q1: Google pay, netflix...don't work, no ubication in the Mi account....
Q3: Yes I did it. First you need the sellers account their password and their help!!!!, then you flash CHINA DEV ROM (not the stable rom) (same version if you are in android 8.1 take care about the version you flash because now china dev is in androd 9) and lock bootloader. When you start the phone it ask for the password of the seller account you have to put it on the phone and have to tell him to erase the device in their account. IT'S AT YOUR OWN RISK I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS BECAUSE YOU CAN BRICK YOUR PHONE!!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING DON'T DO IT!!!
You can read this: h***s://w**.igeekphone.com/xiaomi-mi-8-what-to-do-if-you-receive-it-with-unlocked-bootloader-and-global-miui/ (Maybe he was lucky and his cell phone was not linked to the seller's account???)
I talk with my seller and now I have the china dev installed with my Mi account and waiting 720h to unlock the bootloader to install the global rom.
Q4: I hope so
Hi, I would like to know the answers to these questions that I asked to Xiaomi, and they didn't keep to respond.
1.When I unlock the bootloader, i will still getting MIUI Updates?
2.Installing like a custom recovery (like TWRP) will affect on any functionality of the device? And the custom recovery is gonna stay if I get a system update?
3.If I want to root my device (with Magisk), I heard that some devices, lost their Fingerprint scanner functionality. I'll loose it to? And at the moment of a system update, the root can be deleted while a system update?
4. Wich functionalities I'll lose when I unlock and/or root mi device?(other than loosing the device finder functionality and some more)
For one, Widevine security level will "downgrade" from L1 to L3. I know it's a magisk module that allows you, presumably, to unlock L1 level again but I don't know if it works.
Hello! Is it possible to root this phone as for now? Are there any custom roms for this model?

If you can unlock bootloader, yes you can flash Magisk to root or flash GSI as custom ROMs.
Have you unlock your phone bootloader? May I know what model of your phone? Starting with RMX...

Thank you for the response. I could not find TWRP for this phone. The model is RMX2025. I couldn't unlock my phone's bootloader because the official "Bootloader Unlock Tool App" does not support this model... The lowest model it supports is rmx2051. Is there any other way to unlock bootloader on this phone? People say it's impossible...

Welcome. As far as I know there is only deep test app to unlock bootloader for RMX2051 model of X50 5G only. As long as Realme does not provide deep test app for RMX2025, there is no possible way to flash TWRP or any custom recovery. IMO Realme probably care the vendors rather than the end users so that they have their phones unable to be unlocked.
I sold my RMX2025 and RMX2144 already. Right now I have Redmi K30 5G which is basically the same platform specs as Realme X50 5G. Android devices give the users the ability to customize their devices over iOS devices. This is one of the major attractive points that I chose Android devices over the iOS devices. But some major phone manufacturers chose to remove this selling point.
Well...There may be some hope that Realme may give the deep test app that supports other models of their X50 5G later. But no idea when.
I contacted a Hindu Youtuber who makes videos about unlocking phones, and he said that he will soon post a video of how to unlock RMX2025. As for now, I have restored my phone to default settings and removed (or disabled) almost every Chinese app. Google Assistant still doesn't work but I can live without it

That would be very cool. Please uodate whenever he post the unlock video. I am looking forwards to watching this. This phone is good though. If I can unlock the phone, I will probably buy another RMX2025.
I have seen a post showing how to debloat this phoneas well. You may also look in some section of this phone forum for additional space.
have you tried changing region of your phone? to make it CN variant?
From the title: I'm kindly requesting to check DRM status (DRM Info app here) after unlocking bootloader and after relocking the bootloader.
If possible with a screenshot otherwise I'm interested in knowing if Widevide DRM Level goes back to L1 after relocking and how System ID changes with L3 and L1.
Furthermore t's useful knowing if you also flashed a custom rom and/or blew Knox Fuse in some other way.
Disclaimer: do not unlock your bootloader just to do this check. This request is meant for people who already have bootloader unlocked by their own means.
There is a screenshot example attached to this thread, stock locked A71 never before unlocked.
You keep your DRM keys when unlocking bootloader on A71, so Widevine stays at L1.
No TWRP installed, only magisk.
oh, that's actually really good news.
My previews experience with Widevide DRM was a permanent keys loss.
Thank Samsung for this approach.
Should I be warry of some particular step into installing magisk on A71 ?

Not really. I rooted by mixing magisk into android and then flashing it with odin. There are some tutorials on youtube, showing how it's done.
Hi guys,
I wanted to ask 2 question about flashing, i havent done this since my old samsung days.
1 - Can i downgrade from miui 13 back to 12.5 and if so must i unlock the bootloader to do so?
2 - If i unlock the bootloader, is there anything i should be aware of, will i lose anything etc, like on old sonys unlocking bootloader would lead to loss of DRM ?
Thanks all, im new to Xiaomi so im just double checking things before making any decisions.

Unlocking bootloader will erase everything from internal storage, like a factory reset. You can downgrade MIUI without unlocking bootloader, just watch this video:
