I have made this thread for those users who have bought Nubia Z9 Mini from China and have no Google Services. I have modded the official stock ROM with Google Services. This is PURE stock without any additional tweaks except Root and unnecessary preinstalled Chinese apps removed. You can visit my Google drive to download this custom ROM and I have also included the recovery tool that will install English TWRP recovery.
THIS ROM IS FOR CHINESE VERSION NUBIA... IF YOU FLASH IN INTERNATIONAL/INDIAN VERSION, YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEM WITH NETWORK/DATA CONNECTION (Refer to post below to overcome this issue)
GOOGLE DRIVE FOLDER TO DOWNLOAD THE ROM AND RECOVERY TOOL

GUIDE TO INSTALL CUSTOM RECOVERY + CUSTOM ROM:
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Be sure to backup all important data (contacts, messages, call records, etc.) before proceeding.
2. Working Windows PC with ADB Drivers installed - without proper installation of drivers the process will not be successful.
STEPS:
(If you need only Custom Recovery, then follow the steps from 2 to 7, other steps you can skip)
1. Download the required zipped Custom ROM and copy it to the root directory of External SD card or Internal SD card.
2. Download the Recovery Tool exe file from the link above.
3. Enable USB debugging mode. ("Menu Button" >> System settings(Settings) >> About phone(On the phone) >> Tap 6 times on Build number>>"Back button">> More >> Developer options >> Enable USB Debugging)
4. Connect the phone to the PC.
5. Execute downloaded Recovery Tool exe file.
6. In PC, new window will open. Input your choice of Recovery accordingly. (Allow the Authorization Request in the phone)
7. Follow the steps on-screen until all completes.
8. If the Custom Recovery was flashed successfully, you will get TWRP recovery menu.
9. Perform wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition.
10. To flash the firmware: Select "Install ZIP" >> "choose zip from sdcard0 or sdcard1" depending on which SD card you have copied the ROM, external or internal >> Select Custom ROM >> Flash selected ROM.
11. Wait until you get the confirmation of successful flashing.
12. Reboot the phone by selecting "reboot system now".
13. DONE. (Initial boot may take some time so have patience.)

1. First ensure that you are on a Nubia factory ROM. Download NubiaTools and jd_gsm_3.61.zip from this Link
2. Enable USB debugging on your phone and enable RSA security key box shown, when connected to your PC.
3. Type the following code on the Dialer: *#7678#
4. You will see two blank boxes open up. Tick both boxes you see.
5. Now install this driver on your windows 7 with your mobile kept on.
6. Once this serial port driver is installed check it on your Device manager-Ports settings. It should show USB Diagnostic MDM port. Also see that the driver is installed WITH THE PHONE ON and not off. If you power off and press power-volume-up/down etc. the wrong driver gets installed automatically which will not work. This is the most important step in this whole process. No correct driver and you can't get NubiaTools to work.
7. Go to the Properties of the port and the tab Port Settings in the upper value of exhibiting 115200 bps.
8. Now start Nubia tools on your PC. Before that disable any antivirus programs like NAV as it will give a false alarm on Worm/Trojan detection as soon as you run the NubiaTools file.
9. Select Tools / Settings. Set baud rate as 115200
10. Select back up and press Settings tab in backup, and set baud rate as 115,200
11. Once your Nubia shows up in the Port field, Press START to choose the place where to save the file QCN and click Start All on the panel. After a small amount of time you have your QCN backup.
12. Check if the QCN file has been backed up at the location you chose to.
13. Now follow the directions in the zip file contents to flash the patch files inside the jd_gsm_3.61 zip file (use patch.bat file. Your mobile and PC should be connected and communication enabled in ADB mode.). If it gives error then copy the patch files directly to the root directory of SD card and run the batch file.
14. Now using Nubia tools use Restore to restore the QCN file to your mobile. (Forgetting this step will leave your phone without IMEI)
15. Now you can do a reboot and you will have Data enabled for 5.1.1 based Nubia factory ROM’s and also the unstable Data issue with 3.14 to 3.20 Rom’s also would be rectified.
USEFUL TIP:
If the device is not responding or having black screen, press "Power Button+Vol up+Vol Down" together for sometime until the device vibrates.
The device will boot up automatically.
For Other Custom ROMs you may check these sites. (May require translator as these sites are not in English)
Mod edit: Links removed.

Navin, is it possible to have a unroot.zip package as I use the phone for my office emails using airwatch. Airwatch checks for root and says compromised device. If possible, I would like to install your rom and then run the unroot.zip to remove root. Also appreciate if you could have a small writeup on how to install back the stock ROM. Thanks much in advance!!
@shahulvm..its easy....just open SuperSu ....in settings there is a option for full unroot...
Any reason why this or sd card not showing up as drives in my computer
Edit to add.sorted , just needed to change USB mode

(short) Tutorial in getting your Xiaomi Mi MIX2 encrypted with latest Android 9 (Pie) ROM released by xiaomi.eu (and propably also with the beta ROMs released by Xiaomi/miui.com)
Preparations:
- your phone is unlocked
- a custom recovery is installed on your phone already
- download OrangeFox recovery 9.0-1 or later (others may work too but had not tested for this tutorial / TWRP 3.3.0-0 may produce errors)
- download force-enryption script for Mi MIX2 Android Pie
- download NO enryption restore script for Mi MIX2 Android Pie (reverts fstab config to default - wipe of data needed)
- download latest Android 9 Pie based MIUI ROM (tested only with the modified ROM from xiaomi.eu - official beta ROM may work too)
- optional: download latest Magisk to receive root (may needed by your backup/recovery app to restore your apps within android)
CAUTION!
When folliging this procedure you will loose all current data on your device! DO A APP-BASED BACKUP IN ANDROID FIRST!!! (TWRP or OrangeFox recovery based backups won't work for this procedure!)
Have done your Backup? No? DO IT NOW! really!
Let the phone boot and encrypt itself after flashing the scipt linked in HowTo.
Up to now (bug has been reported) it is to be mentioned that encrypting Xiaomi.EU rom via setting/privacy/encrypt leads direct to PHONE RESET.
FORMAT DATA is required then to get it back to life. @lolo9393 thanks for that hint!
Exact proceedings:
1. you've done a backup eh? - good
2. ... did you save that backup on a other device than your phone? Remember you'll loose all data stored on the phone!!!
3. reboot your phone in your currently installed recovery
3.1 copy the OrangeFox recovery to your device
3.2 select "Install" and choose the OrangeFox recovery .zip file to install (replace your current recovery)
3.3 OrangeFox installer will reboot the recovery after its install
4. Select "Wipe"
4.1 Select "Advanced Wipe"
4.2 Select every Partition exept USB-OTG
4.3 Swipe to Wipe
5. reboot your recovery to recovery again
6. Select "Wipe"
6.1 Select "Advanced Wipe"
6.2 Select "Format Data"
6.3 type in "yes" and confirm that step
7. reboot your recovery to recovery again
8. copy the latest Android 9 Pie based MIUI ROM to your phone
9. copy the latest version of the force-enryption script to your phone
10. Select "Install" and select the Android ROM first then "Add to queue" and select the force-encryption script as second item to flash
10.1 Swipe to Install
11. reboot to system
11.1 go to "Settings"
11.2 scroll down to "SYSTEM SETTINGS" area
11.3 select "Additional settings"
11.4 select "Privacy"
11.5 scroll down to "ADVANCED" area
11.6 check the status of "Encryption & credentials" - it should state "Encrypted"
12. now continue in setting up your system (e.g. enable developer mode, enable advanced power menu, usb debugging if needed, ...)
13. DONE ...
... ok, maybe you're missing your apps and settings - here is a possible way to restore them ... (i personally prefer Titanium Backup)
Root & how to restore apps & app data
14. copy Magisk installer to your device
14.1 reboot your device to recovery
14.2 select "Install" and choose the Latest Magisk-vXX.X.zip file to install (in the log you should read something about "keep forced encryption" - this is good )
14.3 when done - reboot to system again
15. Install Titanium Backup (from a store or as APK from file)
15.1 copy your Titanium Backup or TWRP backup (that could be restored by Titanium Backup Pro) to insternal storage
15.2 restore apps & app data with Titanium Backup (for a detailed HowTo please visit official Titanium Backup Website: https://www.titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-user-guide.html#restore)
15.3 Profit!
That guide may has helped you ...

FAQ
Q: Is that procedure ROM update safe? / What if xiaomi.eu releases an ROM update or my ROM has to be reinstalled?
A: When Xiaomi.eu releases an update you have to flash that script right afterwards that update in your favorite recovery. - No further actions should be needed. This procedure has to be repeated for every ROM update or reinstall.
Procedure is verified as working with update 9.5.9 up to 9.6.27Q: Does TWRP recovery work also?
A: There is feedback that TWRP 3.3.0-0 does not work as intended (THX @mguz on post 11 for the feedback)
Maybe TWRP 3.3.1-0 that was released short ago solves that problem ...

When there will be next build of xiaomi.eu what is the procedure to update it? Just install new in recovery without any wipes? Is force-encryption script needed when updating?

@raupe
VERY good work.
Very useful for people having security concern when using a TWRP.
My comments:
-This procedure is valid with any latest 3.3. TWRP version that can decrypt now. (?)
- This is applicable to all XIAOMI phone under PIE. (Fstab must be exchanged in the zip tool in order to fit with the phone model)
- NOTE :
Up to now (bug has been reported) it is to be mentioned that encrypting EU rom via setting/privacy/encrypt leads direct to PHONE RESET and FORMAT DATA required.

Hi,
- download force-enryption script for Mi MIX2 Android Pie
- download NO enryption restore script for Mi MIX2 Android Pie
both links are down, re-upload possible ?
EDIT: Links are working now
Help out a noob. Why would one need to have phone encrypted? Whats the purpose of encryption?
I'd like to update to 9.5.x Xiaomi.eu Pie but hear complaints of GCam, SuperSU, FindDevice, fingerprint, etc not working. Would encryption help these issues?

Its not about encr. Problems.Pie uses vendor for most stuff now and for gcam is needed additional line in build prop to make it work.magisk 19 can root it without problems
Hi,
thank you for this helpful tutorial.
First time I tried with TWRP 3.3.1-0 and it did not work (Bootloop).
With OrangeFox Recovery it works as described.

On official TWRP-3.3.1-1 works as intended, thanks!

You should be having proper knowledge of flashing Custom ROM and how to Restore a phone if anything goes wrong.
Take complete backup before taking any action based on this thread. I am not responsible for any action taken by you.
I am just compiling all the information / files available on different websites into this thread, I have patched together with cyber spit, bubblegum, and tape, for a pretty much fully working Android 10 running rom. I have removed what I believe to be all of the bloat. Worked to modify a working android 10 vendor. Latest Magisk 19.5 installer is all ready included as of Oct 10th 2019 as well as the modified boot for root access. Gapps are also included for a fully functioning playstore.
All Credit goes to respective developer/s. I request XDA moderator and or Developer of Respective files to let me know if I have forgotten to mentioned (give credit) their name in this thread. The Download Links are given directly from respective Developer/s.
You need the following two files to run Android 10 on Mi Max 2 (Oxygen). This ROM recovery is ported with many patches and customized from various sources. This ROM maybe Stable enough for your daily use on Mi Max 2. I have access to two MM2 4/64 Global versions using a 1tb sd card one on At&t the other on Tmobile.

First step:
Start your phone into recovery and Flash a Treble recovery, if already not flashed. Restart into Recovery.
Click Wipe then Advance wipe and clear System, Vendor, Boot, Data, Cache, and Dalvick cache.
Second step:
Now Extract the Downloaded Rom files in Recovery backup folder. You should know where and how to Extract. (Use extract tool for android or pc then copy paste to recovery backup folder.)
Third step:
Click Restore and Select System, Boot, Vendor and Swipe to confirm. Wait for restore to complete. If any errors, Reboot recovery and try again. Or Mount the System, Vendor, Boot and try again. After Restore completes Reboot. Please allow 1-2 Minutes for first boot, Ignore any errors.
If I missed anything in the above, kindly let me know to include. If you make any further updates / patches that makes this ROM more stable / perfect or enables new features, please don't hesitate to message me to include in this thread.
I have an old PC running windows with 8gb HDD (Asus 901 eeepc) max at any one given time, So if you would like to make the recovery image into a flashable zip, I'd be happy to update/add it.
If you can afford it, Im trying to save for a computer from this decade, any help is appreciated

build number: QKQ1.200419.002.WW_PHONE-17.0822.2005.11
-I can't use auto update
-I can't use manual update (transferring Raw file to internal storage and then install it from the os), it keeps giving my a fail error
thank you

You can't install RAW files from internal storage, you have to flash it from Fastboot. Auto updating should work if you update incrementally up to whatever version you're looking to end at, unless there is an issue that's not detailed in your post.

First update to WW-17.0823.2104.147 by putting the fw zip downloaded from asus site.
Then update to the A11 fw WW-18.0410.2106.138 by putting the fw zip downloaded from asus site.
Else you can use twrp latest build.
1. Just download the last A11 stable fw that is WW-18.0410.2203.201 from asus website.
2. Put the zip in Internal storage.
3. Boot to twrp recovery.
4. Click on Install > Select the zip file > Swipe to flash. (You will see in which slot the zip is flashing)
5. After flash done, (just don''t reboot). Go to Reboot Section of twrp> Change Slot to the other one via clicking on Slot name.
6. Now do same as 4.
7 After flash done. Just Reboot to system

Hi,
I have successfully installed the LineageOS and it's been working fine.
Now I need some apps that depended on Google Services (Spying services),
How can I rollback to original Asus ROM without a need of a computer, can I do that with the Recovery mode using the Bootloader (Power button + Volume UP) then select reset to factory setting ?
Or
How to properly install the GApps without using a computer ? can I download it as APK and install it ?
Appreciate your help!
Adam
Wich recovery did you have installed? With TWRP you can download gapps package on internal memory and flash it, not sure if it's possible with LOS recovery
I've used the LineageOS recovery. Not the TWRP.
Is there gapps package for lineageOS ? How usually it is installed ? like a normal APK or it needed to be flashed as a ROM(LieageOS+GApps) ?

I doubt that you can rollback without using a PC (how did you install the LineageOS without a Computer?)
The Android OS images from ASUS for the Zenfone 8 can be downloaded from here:
https://www.asus.com/de/Mobile/Phones/ZenFone/Zenfone-8/HelpDesk_BIOS/
In principal it should be possible to install them using fastboot commands or a recovery from one of the CustomROMs or TWRP (https://twrp.me/) but in my tests most of the time that did not work.
Therefor I recommend using a raw image to reinstall the Android OS from ASUS like described in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/full-recover-to-stock-if-things-went-really-bad.4337467/
Note that installing a raw image will wipe all data on the phone!
The raw image for Android 13 for the ASUS Zenfone 8 is the image for the beta version of Android 13 on this page:
https://www.asus.com/Content/Android-13-Beta/
After the installation of the Beta image you should install the official Android 13 using the current Android 13 OS image for the Zenfone 8 from this page:
https://www.asus.com/de/Mobile/Phones/ZenFone/Zenfone-8/HelpDesk_BIOS/
The raw image for Android 12 for the ASUS Zenfone 8 can be found here (at the bottom of the page):
https://www.asus.com/Content/Android-13-Beta/
The raw image for Android 11 for the ASUS Zenfone 8 can be be found here (at the bottom of the page):
https://www.asus.com/Content/Android-12-Beta/
After the installation of one of the raw images the installation of the current version of the Android OS from ASUS via the "normal" method is strongly recommended.

GApps are partially system apps and must still be installed while the Android OS is not running (e.g. while booted from a recovery like TWRP)
If you do not really need all the Google apps but only the Google Stack to get an application runnnig you could test if MicroG (a replacement for the Google Stack; see https://microg.org/) is sufficient for your application. MicroG seems to be a bit outdated but it isn't -it's still working fine.
I use it on my phone to be able to use Apps that require Google functionality but without installing the Google Stack (and some of the Google Apps I like for example Google Maps)
To use MicroG either install a CustomROM with MicroG already included like the LinegaOS with MicroG (https://download.lineage.microg.org/sake/) or (my prefered ROM) the OmniROM with MicroG (https://dl.omnirom.org/zenfone8/).
Or install the MicroG packages on your LineageOS either manually (not recommended) or using an installation image for MicroG like for example NanoDroid (https://nanolx.org/nanolx/nanodroid/). One advantage of NanoDroid is that it also contains a patched Playstore that does work with MicroG.
