Hello everyone,
This has to be one of the best features the Note 10 has to offer. Does anyone know of a way to get this working on the Note 8 without safestrap and a Note 10 Rom? I use Samsung pay far to much to risk loosing that with a possible Knox hit.
One thing I thought of, but not sure how to accomplish was to change the way the computer sees the phone when plugged in. Instead of giving a note 8 device id, it would give a note 10 and therefore allow communication within the Windows 10 Dex application.

I don't think that would work if you are running the stock Samsung OS on your device. I also don't think it would work if you are running a custom OS on your device either. As you would have to have a custom install version of Dex on your windows system.

Actually it may work, changing the device's Model Number in the build.prop to the Note 10's model number makes the computer see the device as Note 10 on Smart Switch. All what Dex on PC needs to active is to see if its a Note 10, so it may work but I haven't tried it myself as I didn't have my note 8 rooted.

When I connect my Note 8 and my laptop on Win10 via Wifi, I get the SideSync popup on Windows, but it no longer mirrors the Note 8 screen. I use this maybe once or twice a month and it used to work, and I am thinking that it may have stopped working after I installed Android 8.0.0. I can still move files back and forth and I can play music on my phone via Windows. I just cannot display the Note 8 screen on Windows.
I did a search on the Samsung forum site and someone mentioned about a Regedit tweak that got it to work for them, but it isn't working for me. Beyond that, I have no idea what else to try.
Anyone else have this issue?
Is it possible to prevent the update to 8.0?
I've read conflicting stories, some say turn off auto download and just ignore the update messages.
Others say the upgrade will install regardless.
Which is it?
It's preventable to some extent i guess... But it pops again and again... And then the system is going to get buggy.... Any particular reason not to upgrade....

You can untick the option but some people reported it eventually installed anyways. To be safe I would disable the specific packages, but yes it's possible.

Thanks buddy, how do you disable the packages?
If your using a carrier unlocked version you can simply move to a different carrier and if your drivers are not up to date you will never get a notification to update. I currently have an ATT unlocked note 8 running on T-Mobile still on 7.1.1 as you can see
I prevented the updates by not allowing autoupdates in settings, as I knew that this was not entirely reliable, I used bk disabler pro plugin, if you are still running 7.1.1, it is easy to do it this way
Any reason why you don't want to install the latest version of Android on your device? As you are leaving your device opened to security flaws.

I spend a lot of time in my car inbetween appointments, visiting clients etc.
Its important that I'm up to speed at work and the Note 8 was (until oreo and 1st October patch) the only device that gave me email, sms and system messages in my BMW.
Whilst driving, the car would read out my emails and if it was important I could make a call in response. Now, my note 8 doesn't even see the car, nothing, zilch, nada.
I know BT works on other pairings, I can pair the phone to my other devices but it just will not see the car and the car now won't see the phone. I can pair other phones to it but none of them give me email which is molto importante!
I have already updated the car BT and like I've said, it used to work up until a month ago.
So, I'm trading in my note 8 for a new one that is still on 7.1.1 as I'm dead in the water without connectivity whilst travelling.
I have been on with Samsung support who say BMW need to make an updated BT oreo firmware and, BMW say the same about Samsung.

Have you tried booting your device into Recovery Mode and wiping the cache partition? This may resolve your issue.

Yeah tried that.
Also stopped BT and wiped cache and data from apps > system apps also.
Tried different BT AVCRP versions from developer mode and have factory reset the phone.
Still won't connect.
Do you encounter the same issues when connecting your Note 8 to other bluetooth devices or bluetooth enabled vehicles?

Works fine in my wife's car (Ford) and the Polar heart rate monitor I use. I don't connect to much else but I can see other devices in a BT search, but not my car.

Can you get a hold of another Note 8 running Nougat and trying pair that with your BMW? If it is indeed an Oreo issue I would recommend that you report it to Samsung and wait for them to address it via a OS Update.

Where can I find this?
Seems to have gone from play store...
Yes.... I took a look, and unfortunately even in the developer's page it is no longer available, and it can not be installed from an unofiicial source as it needs to be validated and activated by the developer, but, take a look at this:

Hello everyone,
I have always been an iPhone user since the first iPhone was released back in 2007; however, I have decided I would like to switch to Android as jailbreaks become less frequent on iOS.
I want to get the Samsung S10 Plus Exynos but I had a couple of questions.
If I purchase this device, will by be able to have root access without an exploit needed?
From what I understand, enabling root will trip Knox. I also understand that certain apps made by Samsung won't work like Samsung Heath and Samsung pay. But will other apps work fine like Pokemon go or various banking apps?
Is there a better flagship phone with root that I might want to look into getting instead?
This is all very new to me as I have always been with iOS and I would truly appreciate any advice you all can give. I have been doing extraneous amounts of research, and I will continue to do so, but these are just a couple of questions that I havent been able to find an answer to as of yet.

1.No you wont use any exploit.
2.Yes samsung pay and samsung pass wont work.Pokemon and banking apps work as long as you dont heavily debloat.Samsung health and secure folder work.
3.No there isnt
First update phone to latest version (ASII) with odin.(Get the firmware via Frija and flash via odin).Install samsung drivers and extract what you downloaded from Frija
In odin there are 4 slots. In Ap put Ap file.Bl in Bl.CP in CP and Csc in Csc.(PUT CSC NOT HOME_CSC).then boot phone in download mode(turn it off and hold bixby and volume down then plug in the usb cable Connected To The PC).In odin click start and wait until it boots..Go to youtube and search for max lee how to root s10.Then go to Xda in S10e/S10/S10+/S10 5G cross development and install TWRP by Geiti94 with his instructions.(Optional but recommended) install any custom rom available (CarHDMod,BeyondROM,LineageOS,LightROM and HadesRom).I personally recommend you to install hades rom with corsicanu's instructions. Then you have a rooted and custom rommed phone!
Hi, I really hate to make a new thread, but I just cannot get this darn thing to connect to my PC. I had a G900A (S5) for over 4 years, rooted w/custom rom. I had/have a G935F rooted with SMan custom rom on Android 8. They both work fine (well S5 died a bit ago...LOL). I downloaded the newest Samsung USB driver, which installed fine and the G935F still works. I tried it both on my W7 Pro desktop and W10 Home laptop.
But this damn S20 will absolutely not connect (using same cables on both, except of course the S20 uses USB-C). This THING is on Android 11 (sucks to holy hell). I enabled the Developers Option and enabled USB Debugging and then changed the USB Default config from Charge Only to "Transferring files" and still NOTHING (of course I can say that it Does charge).
I have looked Everywhere. Called useless T-Mobile and they did not know. I got it on Friday and going to the store Monday. Can anyone solve this and save me a trip or do you think something is wrong with the hardware (it's brand new out of the box)?
THANKS!
does windows recognise that a phone is plugged in or not. use the original cable if you're not and swap which USB ports you try on the PC/laptop.
there is supposed to be an issue where MTP screws up large file transfers but it still recognises the phone.

Was it v1.7.43 and did you remove 'any' old driver versions before installing -
- https://developer.samsung.com/mobile/android-usb-driver.html
And when plugging in the phone for the first time you may have gotten a prompt to allow access, if different/more annoying under Android 11 afaik.
And on a different but Android 11 front, can I ask what bits sucked or were different to 10 for you on this device?

Hey, did you mean to quote without replying..?
Hi, I said I installed the newest (that is the version) and did it before I even got the phone and my 935F worked fine. But no, I did not uninstall the old one. It knew it was there and it did it. I have updated the driver the same way in the past and both the 900A and 935F always worked.
Also I think I said what versions I had on both phones, which were android 4 + 5 on the 900A and 7 + 8 on the 935F.
It NEVER asked me Anything Anytime I plugged it in.
I could actually live with this phone (made so cheap, by the way), if I could just get into it and complete putting my files on it. Also THIS phone is draining battery a bit Because I can't root it to get rid of whatever bloatware crap is on it (any suggestions on that?).
Plus I don't like all the crazy crap it displays and does. ALSO, CAN THEY KEEP MAKING THE CLEAR BUTTON EVEN SMALLER???
Attached is a pic of my beloved S5 BEFORE GOOGLEY SCREWED UP ANDROID, THAT THEY CREATED TO BEGIN WITH...Grrrrrrrrrrr...THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLE DAYS OF REAL ANDROID...LOL.
Thanks anyway for the reply!
PS, sorry I been away from the forum for a while. Things are a bit different now! Sorry, b1k3rdude!

Hi, I did try the same "extension" cables and ports that I used for the 935F, but I had a USB-C laying around for my bluetooth and used that and never thought to use the original cable that came with the box (still in the box). It Never recognized the phone ever. I will try that...If it works I am going to bang my head against the wall because I spent hours trying it and researching it and even uploaded certain files to my google drive just to get them to the new phone (I Was Determined)!!!
I will try it and edit this with the results. Thanks!!!
Son of a B*tch, that worked! The cable that came with the BT did not work, but the original one did right away. I did not know that it installs separate drivers for different phones! It installed all the drivers and the phone asked for permission and Voila! Even worked with my old USB extension cable. I never would have thought of that.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! See, when I got up I went to look to see if anyone answered before I even took my pills and etc...Now back to all the disastrous news. I am a H Andrew "victim" and feel bad for the people of LA, and of course what happened in Afghanistan. So off to the News...
Also may I ask what is so special about the cable that came with the phone as opposed to the one I used from my BT??? Thanks!
So on another note, any tips on how to get around all the crap of UNROOTED Android 11?
Also, do any of these rooting threads really work on this US version of the phone? For sure this darn BL is locked. I did find a procedure to tell. A bit complicated (for me), but now that I can get into the phone, I can surely try.
Also I miss my Viper for great sound. Anyone know how to replace it with something if I can't get this rooted? AND WHERE THE HELL IS THE HEADPHONE JACK??? LOL. Plus, do you know how long it took me to figure out how to just get a screenshot on this THING??? JEEZ!
We switched to T-Mobile from ATT and this phone cost me Only $99 over 24 months + $49 tax, while the other 3 on the family plan got their usual rotten apple (I-12's) for free plus tax. I Refuse to get one, but I am an old time programmer and can't see my way to a rotten apple...yet...LOL
Thanks, Sam in FL
Also, I must say that this 5G here actually works in spots (not in my condo though). I got over 500 Down and 49 Up near me, then got depressed when it did not do that in my condo, but I got wifi anyway and who really needs that much down anyway???
Samsung's cables designed for data transfer and flashing are not the same as off the shelf data transfer cables (unless it's made by a decent manufacturer like Anker).
for getting rid of the crap apps, look up ADB debloat threads for Samsung phones, the newer the better, one close enough like S20 or S21 will do.

There are some S20FE specific ones in this S20FE section.
Hey there, Android 12 introduced a features that allows folks to transfer their WhatsApp data from an iPhone to Android devices. See here: https://www.androidauthority.com/transfer-whatsapp-chat-iphone-to-android-3048389/
However, this is designed to only work if the Android phone is fresh out of the box and the migration can't be triggered once the phone is already set up.
Is there a way to trigger the transfer even though the Pixel has already been set up, without relying on shady 3rd party migration software? I don't understand the technical reason for this restriction, seems it's some business bull**** reason?
(In my case, the Pixel arrived with Android 11 and only offered me to upgrade to Android 12 after I had already started using it. I was not aware that this feature would be coming in Android 12.)

Not sure if there is a way to trigger transfer once set up, but you could factory reset once you have upgraded to android 12 and then phone would be in out-of-the-box state.

so I tried it on a brand new pixel and it still didn't transfer ....
connected the two phones with the cable... selected the "move to android" option on the iPhone ... went to the Android and installed WhatsApp from Google Play ...
When I launch WhatsApp it simply ignores the connected iPhone. Asks me for phone number & verifies it, but never offers to restore from iPhone.
Why? Does it support encrypted backups? Does it support account PINs? I'm clueless. I tried 3 times (phone reset).

Sorry I can't be of more help. I don't have WhatsApp or iPhone, so I don't have any direct knowledge of your issue. My only experience is with Signal, which does support encrypted backup files. With signal, you must record encryption key that is generated when backup file is created, then you must import backup file on new device and provide encryption key. Not sure if WhatsApp has similar export and import capabilities. I guess you tried the device migration tool in the Pixel Setup?
same thing happned to me there is no option to trigger the data restore tool & also the playstore wont install data restore tool on pixel 4 xl
