I recently came back to the HTC fold after a year of uing Nokias by being given a Diamond for my Christmas and I've given my wife my N95. I have spent the last week searching various forums to try and solve the following problem.
I used to use my old phone to watch programmes I had downloaded from the BBC Iplayer site. I presumed it would be as easy as using Windows media player on my PC to sync the content to the Diamond as I could do with my old XDA Mini S. Unfortunately it's not !! I keep being hit with error messages saying that it requires a licence. I have tried downloading it with iplayer downloader and renaming the .mov file to mp4 which at least gives me picture but no sound on the Diamond. It is all the more galling when I see my daughter just dragging and dropping content onto her Creative Zen mp4 player and it plays without any hassle.
If someone could suggest a simple and hopefully guaranteed method I would appreciate it. I ahve searched the forum for this but all the threads relate to streaming content to the phone. This isn't really an option because I am on Orange with a pretty meagre data package.
Second that...
Yeah, I'd like to know the answer to that one too. I can play iPlayer programmes on the device via the video streamer thanks to the information in this forum, but I get the same lisence error if I try and play a programme I've downloaded on my PC... even though the download actually says it's for mobile devices?
Can anyone shed any light on this?

You'll have to search the forum for that one my friend... I can't remember where I saw the information. You have to update one of the settings in Opera to fool iPlayer into thinking your device is a Samsung Omnia, then visit the mobile iPlayer site and click away. The videos stream throught the pre-installed video streaming app on the device. (At least pre-installed in stock ROM's, if you're using a custom ROM then the cooker may have removed it!)
Happy searching!
The device needs to support playback of DRM protected content, to be able to playback the stuff downloaded from Iplayer. (something like that)
Thanks for that
It's not the streaming of programmes I'm trying to do it's playing files I have already downloaded and want to transfer to my Diamond

Have you tried coreplayer ?
Not the answer to the original question I know but a bit of info for streaming iplayer direct from the BBC website. I use Skyfire browser which is fine, and pretty quick.
Problem resolved
I did as suggested and installed coreplayer and I can play the content. I'll go through what i did because I'm not entirely sure that Coreplayer resolved the problem or no.
I downloaded Coreplayer and installed it on the phone. Because I had deleted the previous downloads I used my daughters laptop to transfer a programme she had downloaded to her Creative Zen. After I transferred it to my phone I went into File Explorer and clicked on the programme rather than opening in Coreplayer it opened in Windows media player. A warning popped up as usual "A licence is required to play this file" and it offered to download it as before. I thought "here we go again it'll fail to get the licence and won't play" but surprise surprise it played fine. Now I'm not sure if Coreplayer installs a codec that allows these files to play or whether the phone got a licence off my daughters laptop that was designed for the Creative Zen but bottom line is that it works. So I'm happy
Since a few ROMs ago two things happens that are just so annoying:
- Windows media player stops playing when you switch to another app. There is no way to stream something and at the same time go and open a page or something else.
- No way to have both windows media player and audio manager running at the same time.
I couldn't find a way to tweak this. Could please someone put some light on this?
These didn't happened until a few months ago, but every single ROM I install have this same behaviour.
I use PC Ultimate V16 WWE ROM.

Emerson
memory?
I think this could easily be a memory issue. I'm not 100% sure, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. It seems like WMP takes up a lot of RAM, especially if you are streaming, so I don't think it can handle running some apps at the same time. I have noticed mine do the same thing. Maybe someone has a fix for this, but I have not heard of one.
Hi echofloripa,
My name is Ron, and I’m part of the Windows Outreach Team. I thought I’d stop in and try to help out with your Windows Media Player Question.
I did some checking and couldn’t find a setting that might cause this, so I’d suggest that you uninstall and reinstall a clean copy of Windows Media Player.
You can download the latest version of Windows Media Player here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx
If your problem persists, let me know and I’ll keep looking for a workaround. At that point, it may indeed be a memory-related issue.
Cheers,
Ron

The page you sent doesn't have any windows mobile version to install.
I don't believe it is a memory problem. When I had a Hermes, with less memory, I had never had this issue of pausing the windows media player when going into another app. A detail is that playing music doesn't stop, just when it's a video, streaming of local.
Hey guys, If I'm in the wrong area, I apologize.
I was wondering if there was a better youtube app for the HTC Fuze. The native youtube app, and the google youtube app are nice, but they do not play the full range of videos available on youtube, (ex. try looking up the music videos for "What you got" by Colby O'donis, or "Dangerous" by Kardinal Offishall, forgive my taste in music). You will not be able to find the music videos for these songs like you would on a desktop computer.
I've tried Coreplayer, and WVD player, but they either take a really long time searching or there is great difficulty finding videos.
I know this sounds funny but I'm quite surprised that there is difficulty for flash videos on winmo. I have a psp, and the youtube app is amazing (you also have the ability to go to other video hosting websites). Is there a youtube app that is equivalent to a desktop computer or the psp?
Thank you for your time.
ive been a bit dissapionted also in the phone because i tell everyone how much better the touch pro is than the iphone and then it cant do high quality youtube videos. please someone prove me wrong
if you go to the settings icon at the top and hit high quality instead of fast speed they look pretty damn good....
Yeah but if you're running a stock ROM the video skips because it can't process or keep the video and audio in sync..don't know what causes the problem. Not sure if that happens on cooked ROMs though
Have you tried coreplayer 1.3.2 youtube section after pressing views. It has settings out the a**! Hi,Lo,3g,FLV,H264 720p. Beautiful!! Try that if you havent!
But coreplayer is a commercial app, it is not free
btw I tried this software but was unable to make it work for youtube, it never finds anything...

I love my Xperia X1 so far. Mostly good things, but some issues:
1) Video playback very choppy = no solution (same: http://www.inxperia.com/forums/xperia-x1/281-xperia-x1-will-not-play-video.html)
This is heart-shattering for me. I have my anime that watch @ breaktime at work and couldn't believe that there's no decent video player (TCPMP doesn't work with X1 + coreplayer has no video acceleration and is choppy as hell). Windows Media Player works, but the interface sucks compared to TCPMP/Core and doesn't support a lot of formats. Having to convert each video by hand with SUPER isn't a viable solution for me.
2) Buzzing sound during phone calls(same: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4219836#post4219836)
3) My last phone was a SE W810i. I have a Plantronics 520 BT headset and it does NOT search and connect with the 520 when it's in range. I have to manually press the button on the bluetooth headset after I reset my device/turn off > on BT to "pair" the headset to my phone. Please, is there ANY way to prevent this behavior? I just want my phone to find my headset, connect to it, and stay connected. It's difficult to let go of this behavior since my previous (inferior) SE phone did it perfectly.
Have you tried updating it to a new ROM?
A custom ROM perhaps? I'm using Valkyrie 2.9, and it is very good at playing high quality videos---and I have not noticed any buzzing problems with a call.

Hi Fuzalert2K,
No, I haven't tried a custom ROM. I've been mostly scared of bricking my new gadget. I've done them before on my Axim X51v.
RE: high quality video playback -- how is that possible? What video player are you using? Did you compress in a special format? I was under the impression that unless you used WMP/formats compatible with Windows Media Player, videos would run choppy on the Xperia no matter what; this is because there's no compatible video player that accessed the graphics driver.
Can someone clarify this? I would gladly flash to another ROM if it meant video was fixed I use Coreplayer. Unfortunately, TCPMP didn't even run (both confirmed problems on XDA)
Shameful Bump. Can anyone confirm this? Will a hacked ROM solve the video choppiness problem?
try to update to via seus maybe u dont have R3A... im using custom rom and dont have problem with video also... and for video playback i use core player or windows media player or media panel...

I'm running a High Resolution video on my Xperia using the Xperience Panel. The Xperia handles MP4 videos without much problem..
I highly recommend you "hard-spl" your phone,
then flash it using the micro-SD method.
I have flashed my phone a little over 50 times, without the slightest hint of anything going wrong.
If you want a new interface (TouchFlo 3D), I suggest you use Valkyrie 2.9 FS, or if you don't, then go for Valkyrie Xperio. Both roms are created by agent_47 under the Xperia ROM development section. They are really fast. You can also enjoy high-resolution youtube videos!
Hi guys,
Yes, Windows Media Player does fine because it has the graphics acceleration drivers, but because HTC did not release the graphics driver chipset software, so there is no hardware acceleration for videos on Coreplayer or anything else except for WMP. How in the world are you guys not having this problem? Legions of users on XDA/Coreplayer forums are having the same problems. What FPS are you guys getting?
Also, does TCPMP work on your Xperias w/ custom ROMS.
I think thinking of trying the "Valkyrie XPERIO". I want a minimalistic ROM built for 1) Stability 2) speed

Well, I don't use coreplayer.
What is wrong with windows media player anyway? (Is the one in the Xperiance Panel?)
I do think I'm running at least 25 frames.... not much lag.

WMP does not support a variety of formats, doesn't even come close to the configurability, ease-of-use (once configured to one's own preferences), updated frequently, and overall much better than WMP.
I'm very interested to hear from people who run custom ROMS -- does Coreplayer experience the same lag as before?
Shameless bump. Anyone?

I tried a custom ROM -- Touch_X_10_1_X_TREME_BLUE -- a favorite on XDA.
Wonderful improvement over OEM, but alas DID NOT FIX video choppy problem. Whoever states otherwise is either mistaken, lying, or has ridiculously lower standards as to what constitutes "playing video" on the Xperia. I can't even get watchable rates with coreplayer. WMP works if it has a format compatible with it. Stuff like Dattebayo's Bleach (AVI)-- don't even bother.
It really sucks that HTC won't work with Coreplayer's devs to open up and give them the ability to add video acceleration. Stupid HTC

Try another custrom ROM such as energyrom or valkyrie. I myself do with these roms and they are pretty good. By using coreplayer i can watch most kinds of video format (except realplayer format : .rm,.ram...) without any lag (WMP does). So just try, it's safe & fun.
I will try valkyrie and install it very carefully using RUU method (direct microsd method doesn't work for me).
Unfortunately, I just don't see how a custom ROM solves the video lag problem. Can someone post a video of coreplayer playing dattebayo's bleach episode 233? (http://www.dattebayo.com/t/b233.torrent)
On my X1, it plays, but is choppy; choppy means that the subtitles are not smooth and jump around.
Hi guys,
I was trying to upload some videos I made with my HTC HD7, but failed to do so.
I do have a Zune software, and managed easily to transfer videos to my computer, but mp4 file I get is one I can't open or upload to Youtube(unable to convert, it says, after it hits 100%).
How did you do it? Directly from your phone, or what? Which application do I need?
Thanks in advance, cheers!
So, no one uploades videos on youtube?
Whatever.
hmmm i haven't tried moving from HD7 to computer but it should be the same for videos which i think you have down, but maybe it's a different format that youtube doesn't eccept like some audio codecs or something?
try vlc player to play them onthe computer, if that plays it, then the file is fine.
if it doesn't but on the phone it does, something is going on when transfering.
after that i guess you might need to convert the file to something youtube is friendly with the like i think H264 or something like that i can't remember.
sorry if i cant help too much
Thanks for your reply, tombrighteyes.
I tried a lot of these things.
VLC couldn't open it. Then I tried downloading different codecs - no success.
I also tried importing it to Movie Maker and Sony Vegas Pro 10. No can do
Converting - can't recognize that file. Like it's some kind of alien mp4, idk..
Really annoying.
am I missing something also about uploading them. I could upload them direct from my TP2 by attaching them to an email. now I can't find the attach menu item for nothing but pictures. like we don't send files from our phones. stupid microsoft.

yeah at the moment now video sending via e-mail or MMS which sucks but what can we do for now. just hope that with an update like mango or something we can have that feature.
let me try and get a video from my phone to test if its just yours or mine is fine and will reply back.
(Edit) just tried with a small recording of about a minute. worked fine :/ which is wierd for you..
i have the HD7 T-mobile US ver 7392 recorded at 720p highest
did you try recording different in different settings? or maybe length times? try recording something quick and see if that works. maybe something hada hiccup when recording for so long.
im not sure, oh and btw running Win 7 64-bit and it ran under my windows media player just fine. im not sure if it's default but i do allways install the K-lite codec pack found around the web that makes most video files on windows media player if anything else i use VLC.
try these things, you never know.
Thanks a bunch, tombrighteyes!
I did just that. Tried it on my laptop which has 64 bit Windows 7, and installed K Lite Codec Pack, and it worked! On my dekstop, though, the same technique didn't work, but that doesn't matter since I can upload everything now
Cheers!
