App built in notification sounds - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Since upgrading to the S10 i've noticed that Facebook Messenger, Snapchat, etc all use the default notification sound. Is there a setting to use the apps own sounds as opposed to setting it globally? I do see where i can set my own sound in each app, overriding the global system default, but I don't see where to use Facebook Messenger's own chirp, vs whats built into the OS.

It seems like it's done on a per app basis. Goto settings, apps, then select whatever app, then go under notifications where you see all the options for the app. This is all I could find on my S10 plus here.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, i see that i can override via system settings each individual app, but i don't see "use app default" or whatever, just where i can manually override each app w/ a clip I have on my phone. For example, i don't have the Snapchat "sound" on my phone... i know the app has its own internal sound, but no idea how to set it to use that.

Notification App

Does anyone know of an app that will let me modify my notification settings for all my apps from one place? It's kind of rediculous IMO to have to go to Gmail, Messaging, Gchat, etc separately just to change vibrate/ringtone settings.
i would love to see an app like this. My guess is that the hard part would be all the "extra" apps we install and their alerts. But maybe something that would control just the default alerts would be pretty easy.

[Q] Individual Text notifications

Is there a way to update the contacts app, or install a third party one, that allows for setting individual text notification sounds? I've seen this option on other android devices, but on my Note 3 (running alliancerom v6) it only gives the option for setting individual ringtones. I've used third party messaging apps (like Go sms) that allows for individual settings, but I'm tired of all the advertisements and spam that comes with those. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Google Hangouts has support for individual chat message tone and I believe that works with text message too. Can you try that?

Contacts + it's a great contact/dialer/messaging replacement app, you can set individual notifications but it's got tons and tons of other features...definitely worth checking out if you haven't already

I believe you can set it up using your native contacts app....Go into your contacts and pick one, click on the little pencil thingy on the top right to edit the contact. If you look towards the bottom, i believe below the email or groups title, You have one that says ringtone and another below that one that says Message alert. There you can add a customized ringtone and message sound to that contact...Hope this helps

[Q] Google's Messenger Vs Messaging app

I just installed Messenger - Android Apps on Google Play on my Moto X (2013) Verizon Wireless (Android 4.4.4) and using "Titanium Backup" I "Froze" my native "Messaging" app (green icon).
Yet when someone texts me Messaging app (green icon) reappear from frozen, what am I doing wrong? How should I deal with it? It doesn't look like Messaging app (green icon) is active as I switched my "Default SMS app" to "Messenger", is there something else I need to "Freeze" as well?
Do you have the Google Messenger app set as the default SMS app?

Yes, I do. I didn't even know app can unfreeze itself too.

Are you sure you froze the right app? The green Messaging app is the stock standard android messaging app, not specific to Verizon. The Verizon Messaging app should be a different app, probably red icon.
Also why bother with TiBU to freeze you can just try disabling from settings. Settings -> Apps -> All -> Verizon Messages -> Disable
Alternatively when you get a text and Verizon Messaging app pops up click the android Recent Apps/Multitasking button, long press Verizon, select App Info, and Disable.
Only need TiBU if stock disable feature is unavailable.

Yes, I'm sure I froze right app, maybe I mislabeled it by saying it's Verizon when it's not, but I did freeze (multiple times) a green icon app "Messaging" aka (Messaging 4.4.4-26 (SMS/MMS PREFS)".

I tried that first, it was greyed out, so I cannot do it.

... and that's exactly why I attempt to do it using "Titanium Backup" and unfortunately was not successful(
OK well yeah that was confusing because there is a completely different app called Verizon Messages (has some good ratings, you might wanna look into it).
Anyway, we agree you're talking about the stock messaging app. Unfortunately it seems the stock app is integral to the 4.4.4 system, which is probably why there's no disable button and why you can't freeze it either. And even if you did manage to freeze it, it's likely you can't receive messages at all using other apps.
The solution seems to be to simply turn off notifications from within the app: Messaging -> Settings

If you're dead set on going all out war on the app you can try using a file explorer with root privilege, find the messaging app (it's System -> priv-app -> MMS) and try renaming it, but that would be a hollow victory as like before it would probably inhibit other apps ability to receive SMS. so just turn off notifications.

Messenger is just a wrapper or fancier interface to the stock MMS app. If you physically remove MMS.apk (or sometimes messaging.apk) from /system/priv-app, then Messenger won't work at all.
You have to have the stock mms app on your system for Messenger to work (at least on 4.4.x)

Notifications from many apps wont show up when on LTE/4G/3G but they show up on wifi

So I have the note 5 for few months now and after all this time I haven't found a solution.
Basically I use the app called livescore and few other football/soccer apps that notify my when I select certain matches for goals to show up like notifications.
The settings in the app its self is fine, notifications are on, the settings in app manager are also fine.
I haven't found anywhere settings for notifications to show up or not when not on wifi. Do those settings exist? If they don't then what the problem might be?
Its really frustrating as the same thing doesn't happen with whatsapp which works fine with notifications over LTE/4G but when it comes to other apps it just wont work.
ALSO my samsung default email app wont show up new emails unless I am on wifi or unless while on LTE/4G I go inside the app and refresh it.

Hey,
This also randomly just happened to me. The way I fixed it is by going into settings --> Applications --> Application Manager --> MORE --> Reset App Preferences. Notifications all came in after i did that and haven't had a problem since. Let me know if it works!

Facebook Messenger notifications

When trying to set notification sound from Facebook Messenger app, I get access only to sounds provided by the app and not also to the Android system sounds, so I cannot set the default sound I chose from phone settings.

I don't think you can change it to anything other than what the app provides
