Google assistant Hey Google command? - Redmi K20 Pro / Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro Questions & Answe

Hey guys, anyone manage to get google assistant listening in the background? Or even to activate on button press?
I have been trying to get the OK, Google command to work but despite installing both Google Assistant and Google apps it is not listening at all.
Even the supposed shortcut buttons can't really be used since I use navigation gestures so there is no Home button etc available to press to activate in MIUI.
The only way is to open the Google app (Assistant or Now, and press the voice keyboard button) which is sooo convoluted when voice commands are nice and quick, like play next track etc.
Managed to train the Google Voice assistant but Voice Match can not be turned on, I think this is the problem. I am on a Chinese K20 Pro with Chinese stock ROM, but debloated.
Anyone come up with a solution/workaround?

The problem is related to the Chinese firmware, that seems to somehow interfere with Voice Match and renders it unusable.
This issue is present in all roms based on China firmware. The only one, as far as I know, that managed to get OK Google to work is latest unofficial Lineage OS.
There is a setting in miui to set Google assistant to work by holding the power button. That could work, though I've tried roms where even that was broken.
Now if you're using a custom launcher, such as nova or lawnchair, you can set a gesture to open Google assistant, such as double tap.
What I have dome though, is this. Since I'm using fluid navigation to get the nav gestures on pixel experience, I set it up so I can swipe and hold from the left bottom side of the screen and get Google assistant to show up.
I can still go to recents exactly like in miui, by swiping up and holding from middle bottom.

Thanks for confirming this, I thought it was my debloating that killed it, good to know this is a compatibility issue with chinese ROM.
I will look at doing workaround like you. Thanks.

Hi guys!
I resolved this issue this way:
Smartphones whithout Google Assistente
Open the Google app (G colored);
Click in the "Menu" and after "Configurations"
Choose the "Voice" options e after "Voice Match";
Active ou deactive the option "Say OK Google" at any moment;
This worked for me using a Xiaomi Mi 9t pro.
Regards from Brazil!

Doesn't work for me, I am on a Chinese unit K20 Pro with Chinese Rom.
There is no option for activating Say OK Google at any moment.
Might wait for India ROM with MiUI 11 and try again.

Google Assistant working?

Hi,
Running on epic pro rom, latest instalment. Everything stable so far. But I can't get GA working properly. I'm on Google app beta, play services beta, cache cleared, English language.
The settings in Google app even look like it's installed. But I can't open it with "ok, google" (voice trained ok) and when I long press home nothing happens...
Anybody got it running?
Thx

Only got it working with xposed and GA module. Trying lineage OS it works but not from locked phone.
Just to be clear. With xposed and assistant enabler module you got it working from screen off? Cause I tried the said module in the mentioned ROM and it ain't working at all...

using xposed assistant enabler, i didn't make it work from screen-off without charger plugged in. tried several times, since the guide to enable it is tricky.
I am pretty sure it is a limitation of the chipset.
I had this same problem. I scratched my head after looking at the logs. The reason why it doesn't work is because the GMS (and other?) Google APKs were located on /data and not /System.
Move it to /system and it should work.

Can't remember properly what I did but definitely worked, MIUI tweak I think is also needed so you can properly add trusted voice.

Oops signed in with Google+
Working for me on the global rom from screen on. Go to the google app, settings, voice, "ok google" detection. Train it, if you havent, and enable the top two options (the third will then be enabled by default). Then, never open that section again. The next time you open it, it will switch back off - but it should be working if you enable the options then exit the google app. Works for me, even survives a reboot.

Google Assistant available on the Mediapad M3!!?

A couple of days I received my Mediapad M3 and I am very impressed with this tablet, the sound,speed...Is phenomenal....And two days ago I received an update from Google with the "GOOGLE Assistant"...Is extremely weird because Google don't have any plan to give Google Assistant to any tablet,so we have the first tablet worldwide with Google Assistant ? Nice right....Now I can control all my smart things in home from My Mediapad M3 !! :good:
Here is a picture:
I can confirm. I am in the USA and have US model of the Mediapad and I held the center circle and it popped up and said I had assistant now.

That's because it appears as a phone to apps. If you change the dpi to make it appear as a tablet it will not get google assistant.
Yeah, but anyway we can enjoy the assistant in our tablet.....
Is nice anyway lol

How do I get Google Assistant on Huawei MediaPad M3?
I read some people have it. How can I get it?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_j7tfSbXSA&t=94s
I have a problem with that tablet fingerprint sensor, it works when it wants and after a while the tablet stops working. Even the menu settings disappears, fingerprint ID is gone
when I restart the effect is zero only when I reset the factors it works but after a while the fingerprint sensor refuses to work again. Does

You can set View Mode to Medium or Large and once you restart you will get Google Assistant. Then you can set it back to Small and you get to keep GA :good:

Thisis what i originally did on my Note 8 ( and then later Note 9.)
to get my car radio to launch Google Assistant as Bixby kept popping up.
I also have bxActions installed on my phone, but what i originally did, regarding my car radio (Google voice commands) is..
Device /Settings /Advanced settings /Device Assistant app/set to Google and next to Google press settings cog icon
and set voice.... Google Assistant.
So if i press and long press /hold my car phone button
Google Assistant answers.
(Same as home button on device (function) for me)
So take a look and see if it works for you.?

disable OK google listening

Ok I was able disable the OK google and it only listen when I press the mic icon. Now no matter what I do in the google app settings it's always listening. My only current option is to disable microphone permissions which isn't what I want since I can't press the mic icon and speak.
I had it setup on the note8 with android 9 to only listen when the mic icon is pressed. Got the note 9 did the same settings and it still responds when I say OK or hey google.
Currently have the microphone permissions disabled since my phone does NOT need to listen all the time. Is there a setting I am missing?
I had to remove the Google search widget to stop it from always listening. It is stupid that they removed the option to simply turn it off.

Exactly. Disable the "Google" app improve the memory and battery usage, imo
Interesting, I disabled the Google app for about 30 minutes and could not use voice with chrome so turned it back on. The mic permissions are enabled but OK google is now disabled yet I can push the mic icon and use voice for searching again.
So its exactly how I want it but a very strange way to get there. I have no clue how this worked but it did.
Well after a restart and about 20 minutes it went back to listening.
That's odd - it's definitely off on mine, but I can't find where I deactivated it! I use Nova Launcher, and there is an option in the Settings under 'Gestures and Inputs' to disable 'OK Google hotword' - maybe that's how I did it? But 'OK Google' doesn't work anywhere on my Note 9 (did this to save battery and because I have a Google Home & Mini).
EDIT: And I do have the Google App installed.
Not sure what's going on. Google runs me around when I tired to ask them. I know exactly where the setting is and its disabled but still listens for the "OK google "
Personally I would love someone with influence to get attention to this but it seems a little hit or miss on setups so not sure. I have the mic disabled.
I did do a really stupid test if my device was listening and used let's say red flag words to see if anyone was listening. Ironically the words I used are related to an event happening in my city which was horrible timing on my part but semi proved to me no one heard it.

Yes that works. The only thing I don't want is it to disable voice in chrome app which this does.
The settings to disable OK Google are there but don't function and google themselves either don't understand what I am saying or don't want to admit the setting doesn't function as it should.

It's not easy to find the option to turn off the Google assistant, but it's there.
Settings > apps > (three dots menu) default apps > device assistance app
You'll want to change "device assistance app" to "none" and then "voice input" to "Google". The you should be all set.
To go a step further, you can disable the Google assistant from running at all on your device.
Google app > "more" (lower right hand corner) > settings > Google assistant > assistant
Then, at the bottom you should see "assistant devices" with "phone" listed. Select phone and then toggle Google assistant off.
This should do the trick.

I was able to do the first part of device assistant app to none. The voice input option doesn't allow me to pick just google option.
Either way this has solved my issue and is now working they I want it to. Going to try a restart and see if it persists unlike my previous attempt.
Thanks again for finding this.
I like having the search widget and be able to type or voice input my search if I don't know how to spell something. With all the news of companies admitting they listen and record voice stuff having my device always listening is very unsettling. I guess it's a little paranoid but I live in a bad part of my city and I really don't want to be red flag because I walked by a drug deal which happens all to often.
That's strange, because that exactly what it should do when you disable Voice Match, since it is said that's it's actually the "anywhere OK Google listening".
Try deleting your voice imprint on the same setting page too maybe.
I wonder why is working fine on my phone and not on others.

Google assistant

Anyone notice on their new pixel that the new assistant is not working? The assistant is Still the old one, which you'd need to keep squeezing or repeat the hey google phrase.
What language are you using? It didn't work for me when set to English (UK), but works when set to English(US). It seems it is limited to English(US) at the moment.
Also cannot be used with a GSuite account, has to be a personal Google account.
I've switch to english US and have always used a personal Gmail account. Not sure why it's not working. Might just wait for google to fix the damn thing.

Where are you from? It is U.S. exclusive. Not just the language setting English(US). Don't know if you knew that. I'm from germany and I won't get it until they open it for us...
I got my phone yesterday (in the UK) and once I set it the assistant to us US English it installed an update and just works using the new assistant style, so it's not U.S. exclusive in that sense. Thankfully they've also added UK English voices for the assistant to use when talking back (when set to U.S.)

After giving up a few times, I notice that I was missing the google home app. After downloading the home app, in settings there were an option under continue conversation where you can enable or disable "shared devices". I disable that option and, What do you know, after squeezing the phone for the assistant, it automatically update itself to the new assistant. Hope this help others too.
set to english US and it updated and works

Go to settings, search "continued", and toggle the option. Works with squeeze, "Hey, Google", or tapping the assistant icon on the search widget.

Oh! My bad. Didn't realize that was necessary. I read gestures and was thinking Motion Sense gestures. [emoji2359]
I know Android is all about options and all and sucks that it's not an option for the button based navigation but why not use gestures? It's very fluid and quick.

Sorry to hijack the thread but is anyone else having issues with the squeeze for assistant feature? Mine seems very temperamental.
If I leave my phone locked for a bit, then lift it, it unlocks and the squeeze is not working. I then have to tap on the power button to lock it again, unlock and it starts working again.
