Hello,
I'm having a weird issue that I've been unable to resolve. Android Messages is showing old/outdated emojis compared to other apps. Anyone seen this before? Flamingo, which is a Twitter app is displaying normal emojis. I'm only seeing the older ones in Android Messages. They just randomly changed yesterday.

I thought those were the default Google ones? I have those older style ones on all my stock Google phones.

I've had the newer looking ones since I got the note 9. I can't remember the last time I've seen the other ones. I did a phone reset and the newer ones were there for a few hours and then they changed back to the older ones.

Emojis are also based on what keyboard you use. I see you're using Google Keyboard which actually uses the default android style. The ones on the Samsung Keyboard are Samsung's own emojis.

I think there may be a bug in the latest Gboard beta. I uninstalled the beta several hours ago and the emoji have remained the same.
Issue appears to be resolved.

Hey together,
couldn't find an answer and the official WhatsApp support wasn't much of a help either, so here's my problem:
I'm using a HTC One, all stock, WhatsApp+ v.3.58 and SwiftKey 4.1.1.146.
Whenever I type something and want to add an emoticon, the Emoji window doesn't "replace" the actual keyboard. It just comes on top, which takes away a lot of space, is very inconvenient and forces me to first use the back button in order to send my message. When I minimize the keyboard and then press the emoji button, the layout looks fine.
I have tried it with the normal WhatsApp, the stock keyboard and also various versions of the respective software.I attached two screenshots, one is how it looks after I typed, the other one how it's actually supposed to look.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Updatet SwiftKey to newest version. Same problem
I got the same problem.
I'm using a Nexus 4, tried both the original whatsapp and whatsapp plus.
Stock keyboard and Swiftkey, nothing seems to solve the problem...
Someone found out what's wrong?
I have the same issue with my Nexus 4 and HTC One too.
I've managed to solve the problem by disabling "Pie Control". Not sure if this helps.
Use the official app, when I remember right this doesn't work with WA+ or try to change the hight of the emoji area to the stock value

Hello
I just updated my HTC One to 4.3 android.. It works perfectly, except one thing:
Before, when I type a text message, emoji would appear as soon as i type it, like semicolon and parentheses  would instantly change to emoji.
Now, it stays as I type it - it doesnt get replaced by emoji.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks!
I would assume that since there's more emojis (probably hundreds of them) and full iPhone compatibility, that's just one of the draw backs. Now between us and iPhones we can see and send full emojis in color, but as far as I know you have to use the stock HTC keyboard and hold down on the smiley button to access them.
And sending these emojis to other android it doesn't show up right, at least to my wife who has the same phone but on android 4.1.2 and sense 5 it showed up as an empty square.

The smiley faces you had before updating that automatically changed when typing were not true emoji icons. 5.5 sense brought true emoji standard which you need to actually pull up the separate key layout list to use. This list is also fully compatible with ios and iPhones.

The problem lies when one wants to use a custom keyboard, and wants to see emojis

Yea, I mentioned that above. You can still see emojis everywhere, but you can't use them. I don't use them often so I use Swype, and when I wanna use an emoji I switch to the stock keyboard. It's not perfect, but it works.

So in 5.5 we'll be able to see and post color emoji in apps like twitter and instagram and also send and receive full color emoji with iphones??

So is there chance to change that to update automatically, as it was before? The thing is that all text messages that I receive and that are not sent with emoji but with regular typing - are shown as characters not emoticons...
THANKS!

You could download a different keyboard and/or sms app form play store or from these forums. e.g. a stock aosp android messaging app and keyboard. or one of the dozens of others out there.
But that doesnt actually display emoji's...
A lot of apps, i.e. sms apps, forums, websites, etc have made "their own" icons to display when you would type a "semi-colon and a parenthesis" together, for example. There was no standard here, it was all individual to the app.
Now, true emoji style icons, which is a standard baked into the Sense 5.5 ROM and IOS does not use the "semi-colon and parenthesis" type format.
Before, when using the "semi-colon parenthesis" style it was not "universal/standard" for example; I could use my "old sense 5" ROM and send a text using a "semi-colon and parenthesis" and on my phone it would convert it to a smiley-face (not an emoji) and I would send it to my gf who has an iPhone and it would show up as a "semi-colon and parenthesis" (not a smiley-face) because it was not a universal/standard way of doing it. TRUE EMOJI is a "standard" that works better and will allow us to see the icons between devices and not rely on individual apps to make up their own as in the past using "semi-colons and parenthesis" that were app specific.. This probably makes no sense to you but I gave it a shot, maybe someone else can explain it better.
I just would love to see some screenshots of this in action in 5.5

I understood you perfectly. But is it possible that software developers didnt keep that option to show smiley-faces. Thats a step backward....
No chance to "re-enable" that?
Thanks!
Hi,
Not a major problem, but after the update, I have noticed that smileys do not display in messaging as they used to.. now a smiley face is just a " : -)" and not the graphic symbol.
I am presuming that this is due to the introduction of emoji which weren't available before. I have a number of contacts that do have emoji's and thus I presume there is a "translation" problem.
Is there anything that can be done about this?? I have tried a couple of messaging apps but I prefer the stock one if possible.
Anyone else having this issue and can suggest a work around??
Thanks
Is there another app that comes as close as possible to Samsung's stock calendar app? I just love how it performs and I can't seem to get its apk working on other phones. So if/when I do use another phone as my daily, I'd like to use a calendar app that's the closest to Samsung's. Google calendar is not an option. I've tried it a few time. Don't like it. If you've used Samsung's calendar app regularly, you'd understand why I prefer it.
Alternatively, if you've figured out how to install the Samsung stock calendar app on other phones, please share how you made it work. Thanks!
I like the calendar app, but I can't stand the way it shows notifications. Why can't we get normal android notifications from it is beyond me
Because of this, I prefer Google's calendar app, their implementation of looking for locations is better than Samsungs.

Thanks. Keeps crashing on this 6T that I tested it on, though. I'm just trying to see if it would work on a non-Samsung phone.

Well it won't..
I have the Samsung Calendar on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9. I have used it for well over a year now. It has suddenly lost all of my appointments. They just disappeared yesterday. How can I retrieve those? I need them for dr appointments. I have several chronic illnesses and rely heavily on a working calendar. Thanks.
Hello,
I've noticed that ever since the last official OneUI updare for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 I get two options for opening facebook links that point to the same app. Is this safe or is my phone hacked/insecure? Android security patch level is July 2019.
Cheers!

humm maybe something having to do with dual messenger or something?
i dont use facebook but check that menu none the less.
Hi man, that was a good suggestion, I had no idea what Dual Messenger is, but after some digging I know now that it's used to access different accounts for some apps that would normally use just one login. Unfortunately it's off for both facebook and (facebook) messenger. So there might be something else, also the name of the app itself is the same.

maybe 1 old preloaded Facebook from stock and another from an other source(sideload or from an store like aptoide). just go to system /apps and delete/disable/uninstall it). if you see 2 then theres ure issue. uninstall both and get a fresh copy off of playstore. then check if it is still there 2x in ure choices when u open a link. if yes then i suspect you might have some other app maybe faking it? idunno...
i have the same issues. as we know that facebook came pre installed in our phone, so my guess is that one is the pre installed version and one is the version that got updated in playstore. this issue needs to be addressed by the samsung. hopefully in next update.
