i really like this phone, i am a fan of bug battery phones, i own a lenovo p2 and i can't see a real replacement to buy, i don't want to buy a 4000mah phone but at least 5 or 6000k mah and THIS ROG phone seems to be the best flashship ever created, not only for the rest of the spects but primarily for the BIGGEST EVER battery in a top end phone.
i know this phone is pricey and the community strenght of the previous rog phone is 0% ... no roms no kernels... but i really hope that this one will have a good community here..... because i am sick to see top phones of only 4000mah

2k screen, wireless charging, better cameras
Unfortunately it's more than hardware that determines this. Hopefully they communicate with the buyers more and update the OS quickly and frequently. If Asus is smart they'll send developer phones and work with the mod community like they're doing for the Zenfone 6. Unfortunately while there are plenty of examples of what to do to get loyal customers and brand evangelists most refuse to do the usually simple things required to achieve this.

China version 8+128GB, 500USD. Not pricey.
500USD? That’s gotta be because of the Tencent (owner of PUBG) partnership. No doubt in my mind that phone comes with some Tencent bloatware.
International version will definitely be more expensive though, especially if the bloatware’s not on it.
I heard they are also working on a stock android version reminds me of the Google Play Edition phones.

Some hardware reduce (China have 2 phone version 8GB/128GB vs 12GB/512GB )
Wireless mimo NO
HDR chip to convert SDR NO ------ ASUS website deleted when selling
Cooling fan NO

Rumor: Different screen vendor ------ Wrong

I don’t think the Tencent version will have the option for the Stock Android UI. Believe it’s only a Worldwide/US feature.
It comes out in a little more than a month for us.

No wireless charging. And it won’t have expandable memory on its own, but it the gaming accessories that you can get with it come with SD slots.
But I’ve never used more than 50GB on a phone and this thing packs 512GB out the box

Does stock camera has night mode ?
So I have received an offer to sell my 6t for $450, so I was wondering if I sell it what my next phone will be?
Main concerns for Rog phone 2:
- Size
- weight
- Quality control as many people in china reported issues with the screen
- OS OTA updates/ bug fixes
Concerns about oneplus 7 pro:
- more expensive around $100 more
- Curved screen glare.
What do you recommend?

I will go with the ROG. For a couple of reasons: Cheaper, design symmetry, better front firing dual speakers, 120 HZ screen and finally longer battery life. Regarding your concerns the weight isn't a big of a deal as they make it sound to be, in terms of size; yes it is big but it's similar to 1+ size. QC issues that will depend on how you view it personally I have no issues except for some software bugs I hope they fix soon in a future update.

Did the phone receive any updates yet?
I haven't seen any of that. Just the fact that not every app runs at 120fps. Other than that everything else I love about it.

oh thank you for your feedback, did you face any issues with google on mobile data? I do use google maps a lot on mobile data while driving.
No issues with google maps or tmobile. I'm using the tencent version. Although when I first had hotspot on I couldn't use gps. It seems to have sorted itself out though.
Dude go with ROG. I have the 7. The curved screen has been such a hassle. Always closing or pressing things I didn't mean to. And when gaming it's really really annoying.

I have both. ROG 2 is taller even though OP7Pro has a bigger screen. Weight they're both heavy but ROG a bit heavier. OP screen is a lot brighter than my ROG. It will probably deoend on how you use your phone. I will sell my OnePlus and keep my ROG for the battery. I'm a casual gamer and heavy user of FB, FB Messenger, Viber, some YouTube and casual gamer and OnePlus gets me 4-5 hrs of SOT while ROG gets me 8-9hrs.

I have the Rog 1 and 2. Because i love both i haven't sold the first generation. Regarding updates i believe the Rog phone 2 will get better support because of it's popularity and price, yes the first generation isn't getting a lot of updates and we will be getting the Pie update i believe by the end of September at most if not earlier.
But coming back to the question of updates, do current updates have any added features ...barely in my opinion except for the security updates which the Rog phone is getting every 3 months since it was launched. I even prefer the Oreo rom on the Rog 1 over the Pie rom of the ROG 2 which to me doesn't add any added features what so over i even feel it's a downgrade in comparison, regarding Android Q or 10, the only thing to look for is improved gesture navigation and dark mode which we are enjoying currently on the ROG 2.
@Shady282 Good luck with which ever phone you go with!
for sure rog phone 2 is the winner.. i bought the 8/128GB version. its enough for me , 12 gb ram wont be used its only for marketing strategy and its only if anyone want more storage like 512gb.
rog phone 2 has an amazing 120hz oled 1ms pixel response, 10bit hdr10 almost full dci p3 screen with 240hz touch sample. latest plus processor with better 15% gpu performance, better front facing speakers,6000mah, 3,5mm jack, gorilla glass 6, ufs 3.0, 48+13mpx and 24 back and front camera with amazing stabilization, better haptics feed, better gaming and costant framerate, lots of usb c 3.1 with video output, fast charge( up to 30 watt supported).. its a best buy at 550$
oneplus 7 pro is less smooth 90hz and higher resolution will impact gaming and gpu benchmarks. no 3,5 mm jack, lower battery capacity, curved edges are cool but not useful and make accidental touches, worse speakers and stardard 855 processor. it cost 200$ more
maybe the only reason to switch to oneplus is software community and development, but i will stay to rog phone 2 due to better specs and price

I m really liking the rog for all the specs but new OS gets a lot of optimizations in many different area even games performance, also fixes many bugs. The thing about asus with rog, is that they don't fix their bugs and u won't experience improved New OS features.
Also don't forget oneplus updates their phone much much faster than asus so my concern will be if asus will change their ways. They still didn't update rog phone 1 to Pie yet...

I got the A90 5g as a contract upgrade about a week ago. I have unlimited 5g data as part of my plan but don't currently have 5g in my area until early 2020, so can't comment on the 5g but I managed to unlock the boot loader and root it. I will attempt to create custom recovery for it but that will take much longer.

That's great news, thanks for working on this phone
I will post a quick guide later tonight.
As far as the phone itself. I love (nearly) everything about it. The screen is large, the display looks great and is bright, the cameras are the best I've used (although I'm no expert by any means), it runs really smooth. Even some of the Samsung bloat is useful like game launcher. The battery is fantastic, charging time is very fast. Gaming performance is A++ with the flagship CPU.
"Bad" things....6gb of ram, I had a RAZR phone with 8gb and you can tell the difference. I see they released a version with 8gb but alas mine isn't.
The fingerprint sensor doesn't seem to work as well in the screen as opposed to on the side or back where I'm used to it.
I also got this phone for "free" with my contact, I wouldn't exactly call £700 gbp mid range and I certainly would not have bought this on sim only. The Asus ROG would have been my choice with much better specs and a cheaper price tag albeit losing the 5g.

Guess i have to wait for the global firmware or middle east cuz i reside their atm :crying: otherwise like what you said an awesome phone only downside 6GB RAM.
Thanks for sharing
Have to disagree with the ram comment. I also had and still have my Razer. The most ram i seemed to have in use on the Razer was around 3Gb meaning 4-5Gb Ram was just sat there... On my A90 theres still 2.1Gb of ram still not being used. The battery management miles better on the A90 than the Razer. The 120Hz LCD screen ate the battery after the last update (9) whereas the OLED panel is brilliant on the A90. DPI and resolution not as high as the Razer, but the overall picture still looks better on the A90. I do miss the Dual Dolby Atmos speakers on my Razer but the "Free Galaxy Buds" sound brilliant.

Hey guys. I've looked at the forums for the ROG 2 and honestly I'm torn between getting the ROG2 or the OnePlus 7T now...the ROG2 clearly has some software issues where the phone turns off by itself and the unsupported B20 band (800Mhz) for 4G coverage just screams future unpredicted problems to me. What would you guys say? Should I just save myself the troubles and go for the 7T? Are you guys satisfied with your ROG2 phones or should I go for the safer alternative, the OnePlus 7T?

What do you need? A real gaming phone with average camera and killer everything else but no real dev support or a mainstream like any other phone with great dev support and very good all around?
I wouldn't trade Rog for one plus, I came from one plus. It's all about your personal needs.

I'm just looking for a phone with a bigger battery and a 120hz display. I'm coming from a Xiaomi Mi 9T. I've seen the S20 in real life and the 120Hz display just blew me away. Kinda hard to stick with 60Hz now. I don't really care that much for games or for the support, I just want the phone to work good overall. I don't make that many pictures, but I'm sure the ones I would take would be more than good enough. The only thing I worry about now is the cellular support as my carriers support only 800Mhz band and 1800Mhz band. The phone however does not support 800Mhz or B20. I've got an option to buy an unused global edition ROG2 for just 520 euros so I think it's worth it.

I absolutely love my ROG Phone 2. Had it for several months now (since September) and have had zero software issues or restarts or anything like that. I have the Tencent 8gb/128gb model and am in the USA on AT&T and have zero signal or bandwidth/speed issues! And the battery life is just... Well... There's literally no other device on the market that can compete with it on battery life!

Coming from a OnePlus 7 pro. That device had a terrible camera. Even OnePlus admitted that they are not satisfied with the camera performance..
I was trying to decide between the 7T and ROG 2 and went with ROG 2. Been using it for the past two months. One of the biggest issues I face is with the display, and had I known this before buying I wouldn't have picked this. It made me unable to watch my shows before sleeping, but hopefully this'll get fixed with Android 10.
Other problems include extremely slow software support (and with a high chance of 10 being the last version), minimal customisation options, and the weight. The weight becomes really noticeable and starts hurting your arms if you're trying to use the phone while lying on the back (so another stab at my shows, though I hope it'll buff me up xD)
Edit: Also, I can't figure out why there's zero dev support (no custom ROMs)... I don't plan on rooting my phone or swapping ROMs yet, but I'd like to have the option to do so. Surprised that there isn't one right now.
Another Edit: Oh, and I absolutely can't figure out the hype with 120Hz... I tried it for a couple days, but found it hardly worth anything, especially with the phone incapable of putting out 120 fps on most proper games, the the only real benefit can be observed during scrolling at which point it becomes pointless, so I just turned it off for better battery/performance.
I just use 90Hz most of the time to get most of the benefits without the problems.
B20 is available if you get the 12GB model. There are no issues with it suddenly turning off.
Not a perfect phone but does everything that I want of it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I completely disagree, especially about 120 fps. I've noticed absolutely no difference in battery life by using 120 FPS vs 60 fps (I regularly get 11 to 13 hours of screen on time with general use on 120 fps) and now that I've used 120 fps on a phone I find 60 fps atrociously slow/laggy/choppy, especially during scrolling. It makes any device using 60fps feel horrible now. 120 fps is a massive improvement. Yes I'll agree not many games support 120 fps on Android yet, but the ones that do are so smooth.

(Edit: Misunderstood quote... Response removed)
Well, the games I play hardly hit 60 fps at high settings at which point they start guzzling the battery and heat up the phone. As for the scrolling (as I've already mentioned), agreed, but I'm not in the habit of constantly scrolling at high speeds.
And to note, frame rate and refresh rate are different things. Frame rate is on the software front and refresh rate is on the hardware front. Both need to match for the best experience. You can use game genie to see the frame rate you're actually getting.

If only we get a good custom kernel for Android 10. It should increase the performance to close the gap with SD865, i get around 516k in antutu, and I've seen the xaiomi mi 10 getting around 537k in a YouTube review. There's a chance to overclock this device because it has good cooling compared to my previous OnePlus 7 pro.
Anyways, custom roms are usually very buggy and stock rom isn't lacking in any way, it has everything you'll find in any custom rom, plus some features that might not fully work on custom roms.
And btw, i do not have that screen issue that you've mentioned above.. mine is 12/512 elite version.
It's the overall best android phone I've used so far, and I've been using it since October. Battery life is awesome ? even with x mode and 120hz both on all the time.

Wow! Really?! Geez, now I wonder if I should get a replacement...
But 10 pages of complaints, and their acknowledgement of the issue on Twitter...

Seems like the Tencent version or the first version that came in July is the most affected by this issue than the second/elite version. But yes, my screen is fine.
Dear all,
I have removed some off topic posts from this thread. Please remember our rules when you post. Thanks.

I'll be getting the 8gb 128gb global edition and hopefully it's not defect in any way! Should be better than my Xiaomi Mi 9T in any case lmao.
I have both rog 2 and 1+ 7T pro 5G.
I've used the 1+ for maybe a few hours total. Screen/battery life/ user experience feels better on my rog

Good to know! Thanks!
Greetings to Pixel 5a owners from Ukraine!!
I was a happy Pixel 4a owner for some time, but battery life upset me. The battery replacement didn't help, so I switched to a mid-range Realme.
I am missing the Pixel experience and looking forward to rejoining the Pixel family. Pixels have never officially sold in my country, and since the war started, it's become even harder to find one on sale.
Luckily, the local retailer has brand-new Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a for a reasonable price (~$600 and ~$400 with taxes included), especially considering how our local currency is losing its value each day. I'm choosing between these two models.
Would you say it's safe to buy a Pixel 5a right now? I am excited about its battery life; at the same time, it's not that large and heavy. However, I'm a bit concerned that it has only 6 GB of RAM, and the Snapdragon processor might be not too future-proof, as Google might save some features for their Tensor-based models. What do you think?
Best,
Andrii

Currently I only use my 5a and 6 for testing.
Between the two, I prefer the 5a and plan on switching to it as my daily use phone.
I am still using (and like) my 3a as my daily-use phone.
The 5a is very close in size and style.
Between the camera style and positioning, a dedicated fingerprint sensor, ..
Might be why I prefer the 5a.
Cheers.
Forgot to add - both 6 and 5a are Japanese versions. I have found that the shutter sound can't be disabled; maybe you know any other issues or differences?

thanks for sharing your experience! very helpful!!
As I stated in your Pixel 5 thread, I believe you can still get the 5a new. Here are the main differences between the 5 and 5a:
Screen size: 5a is bigger but only 60Hz, 5 is 90Hz
Battery capacity: 5 has 4080MaH, 5a 4680
RAM: 5 has 8GB, 5a has 6GB
Wireless charging: 5a doesn't have it
They both use the same SoC (Snapdragon 765G), same GPU, and same modem.
There are some additional minor differences - the 5 has Gorilla Glass 6, vs the 5a only uses Gorilla Glass 3. Negligible with a screen protector. 5 is IP68, 5a is IP67.

Thanks, buddy, for kindly sharing your feedback in both threads.
I am planning to purchase a new device this week and was trying to get as much feedback as possible within an extremely short period of time.
Initially, I thought about P5 vs. P5A vs. P6.
Only used P5 are in stock, so its battery life is likely even worse than the new P5A and P6. So now, I'm choosing between the latter two.

TBH I haven't handled the P6, but with the physical design and the problems many have had with the new hardware, I'd say stick with the P5a. I doubt the 2GB of RAM will make much difference for you. My wife uses hers pretty heavily for playing games and she's never had an issue with sluggishness.
If you want to be able to root, make sure you buy an unbranded Google device.

What do you mean under "unbranded"?
I saw devices sold in open boxes, and their screens are covered by a protective film like on new phones—the semi-transparent on the P5A and the solid white on P6.
I assume they might be the refurbished units. Is there any way to check it?
upd: ##786# and *#*#786#*#* do not work either on my P4A or other phones, and I assume, on P5A and P6 won't work as well

Don't get a carrier branded device. But since you're in the Ukraine, I'm not sure this would be of any concern.

Hello, I also from Ukraine, I bought my 5a 2 month ago in stylus. Everything works fine. It's not Japan it's US model.
Thanks, @ipdev, @V0latyle, @[email protected], for your feedback
Today I placed my order for the P5A (US version), and I look forward to receiving it next week! Should I check something when in-store? I'm not confident about the seller, so it's better to find out issues before paying.
The idea was: Everything works for me in my P4A, except its battery drains too fast. P5A is similar to P4A but with excellent battery life. Snapdragon SoC, 60Hz screen, and rear-mounted fingerprint are more pros to me than cons.
Bad thing with this phone is how easily overheats during warm summer days while taking pictures or having video call and gps turned on. Google really made cheapest phone they could.
Also idiots from google didn't enable VoLTE like normal company but they locked it so only "certified" carriers have it. This is my first and last pixel phone.
Battery is great, cameras are standard Google reliable and good.
Clean Android with regular updates is also good and everything just works.

I am hesitant to do that since I risk lossing banking apps and payments that use nfc. Google is trying hard to disable hiding of unlocked bootloader...idiots.
Only ROM that for now works is pixel experience and rooting will again cause issues with banking and payment apps.
I don't know, magisk is hiding it perfectly
Thinking of buying it for 2023, but it was released only in like 3-4 countries so the communites for ROMs and other development could be far stronger. Rule#1 when future-proofing through custom ROMs: Make sure the phone is widely available.

I'd personally say stay away. The overheating issue isn't *terrible* if you're not a frequent user of video chat, but when you do need it, your phone is going to overheat and your radios shut off. I was trying to use a telehealth visit with my doctor for a recent diagnosis using 5G on Visible, and it keep shutting off the radio and freezing the phone. I had to use my wife's iPhone instead. The doctor couldn't even call my phone because it was locked up for 5 minutes.
I'm on my 3rd Pixel 5a (due to screen breaks) they have all had the overheating issue. It won't come up for months but if/when it does come up it can be during a critical time.
