Battery temperature problem - Xiaomi Mi 9 Questions & Answers

I bought a xiaomi mi 9 phone a few days ago, I found on the internet that the battery in the phone should reach low temperatures. I would like you to check if they are normal.
When playing not only demanding games, the battery quickly reaches a temperature of about 38 degrees Celsius.
During normal internet browsing, the battery reaches about 36 degrees.
While watching Youtube the battery reaches 33 degrees.
Sometimes these temperatures are lower. I care about the assessment because I want to finally take care of the phone. Thank you for your help and sorry for poor english.

If you want our opinions on whether those temperatures are acceptable or not, you have to also share the ambient temperature.
38 C should be normal for 23-24C ambient, don't be fooled by some supposedly "light" games that are badly optimized and eat the battery alive causing heating, just because a game is 2D doesn't mean it consumes less battery.
36 C for "normal internet browsing" seems too much, I get way less at 23-24 ambient, not more than 30 C.
33 C for youtube is fine especially if the videos are bright with sound turned on.

The ambient temperature is about 22-23 degrees, maybe a little more. Unfortunately I don't have a thermometer inside the house. Now while browsing the internet, the temperature was between 31.5-32 degrees.
Usually the screen brightness is set to half the bar or slightly more than half.

Are you sure your battery have this temperatures? Sounds like the cpu for me instead.

I am 100% sure. Are these temperatures good or should I give my phone back for warranty?
I will add that I always charge the phone from 30% to 85%, apparently so there are less charging cycles.
When charging, the battery reaches a temperature of 36-37 degrees.
I never charge it at night. When I was sleeping, the battery level dropped from 30% to 26%, that's ok, right?

Hmm thats a strange behaviour. My battery has 27 to 30 degrees at charging. Im checking with aida64.

I found the characteristics at the link:

Temperatures look similar, how do you rate my temperatures? Should I care?
Edit:
Could any of you do a stress test from antutu? I put my results below. Next to it is the battery temperature right after the test, which reaches almost 40 degrees Celsius. I will add that I have a case from xiaomi.

post your battery voltages and Temps for me please

Can you guys list your battery voltages and temperatures of your exynos and battery during use and idle for me so I can see what the hell is wrong with my phone. You can use AIDA64 if you don't already have an app you like.
I left my phone in a very moist very hot bag by the pool. Afterwards for about a day and a half it wouldn't turn on. Then it now uses about 1 percent of the battery every 1 to 2 minutes. Maybe 5 minutes per percent while idle.
I'm trying to pinpoint whether the soc is damaged or whether I can just replace the battery. Thank you guys in advance.
So how about:
Temperature of exynos and battery during use while charging.
Temperature of battery and exynos idle
Voltage of battery at 100 percent
Voltage of battery at less than 3 percent

Is idle temp of 35°C too high for new Note 9

I bought a Note 9 last month and I am noticing the idle temps are around 34-35°C. I live in a hot country where the avarage ambient temps whole year are around 33°C. With moderate, non gaming, work the temp goes to even 42°C. God knows how high it will go if I gamed.
I have found some people saying that anything above 30°C will lessen the lifespan of the battery. So I am bit worried after paying a lot for the phone I wont be able to use it even 2 years. I aim to use this phone for 3-4 years.
I was under the impression that Note 9 had some water/carbon cooling system, which seems to be useless here. Are these temps normal? Should I be worried? Will it have some long term effect? Are there any tips to make battery cooler?
I used Accubattery for these temp readings.
I wouldn't think 35°C is too hot.
No.matter what claims Samsung make for their improved cooling the ambient temperature is always going to effect the battery and cpu temperatures.
Whether we're discussing cooling a phone or a vehicle engine unless using some kind of refrigeration the coolest temperature is going to be above ambient temperature, so higher ambient temperature will cause higher internal temperature.
I wouldn't think it will have a significant detrimental effect on battery life although as you state gaming or other high power usage such as Sat nav is obviously going to push the temperature higher, I expect battery and soc management will keep things in check if temperatures get too high.
I wouldn't be worried about battery life unless sustained temperature of in excess of 45°C.
Lower temperature does tend to benefit battery life a little, ideally around 20°C should give optimum battery life in terms of charging cycles.
My advice would be enjoy using your phone, don't worry.

Thx for the reply, I don't game much so thats not a problem, I have noticed phone does get hot when using GPS which I have to do more frequently to navigate; but I am in the car in AC, so I think it would be manageable.

just the sun hitting it can push the temp. but it might simply be a rogue app or something.
if freshly resettedþfactory wiped its under 30c, you know it was an app that you installed that caused it.

Mi 9 T Pro with overheating

By setting up the pubg with maximum graphics the device is warming up to almost 70 degrees celsius, it gets very hot on top of the rear cameras, even more on the right side of the headphone jack in the case and on the screen glass if you touch the lips on the screen glass realize that it is very hot.

Device is not heating up to 70°C, CPU does. Device is heating to temperature just a little bit higher than battery temperature which is on your screenshot 42°C. Those temperatures are normal when you put powerful chipset like sd855 on high stress for longer period of time.

Return it to seller.
Can anyone with the device take a test?
CPU does touch 65+ in HDR+60fps for me but as long as battery temps are <44 everything is good!
Do remember to take off any case/cover while gaming & not playing while charging too.

The point is that the CPU is over 70C °, the rear camera, housing and screen next to the headset are very hot, I feel it in my hand and fingers, it bothers you a lot, high temperatures can burn the screen.
My Mi 9 is no more than 60C °.

I told you that heating so fast is not normal. You have faulty device and return it to seller. You can use google or youtube and you'll see that no one get that temperatures so fast like you do. Here is example: https://youtu.be/C9jSZ4JR0qo?t=1

First of all he is measuring wrong with inexpensive and inaccurate equipment that is not even for checking the temperature of a human being. There is a right place to measure the temperature and not the way it is doing, I did the correct tests and this device has a low quality screen and a poorly positioned graphite heatsink.

I just choose that youtube video randomly, you can ignore it if you don't trust it but you have 1000 other Mi 9T Pro/K20 Pro reviews and youtube videos where you can see that this devise doesn't overheat fast like you say. You wrote: "Just over 1 minute the device reaches this temperature leaving the screen very hot" and I'm telling you that this is not normal and that your device is faulty and for the third time I'm writing you to return it to seller. This is the end of this stupid discussion for me and I won't comment on it anymore. You could use google in the first place to see how this device reacts under stress and you could see that this device doesn't have the best cooling but it also doesn't have the worst. Bye.
guys ... if you can`t keep it civil then you better stop here if you don`t want to have one more problem apart from the one with your device

Hello. I bought this device and is too hot in idle or social networks Use.... Not on gaming (saint seiya awakening) or full charge situations. I think I should change the unit.
In this moment, the cpu is 42°C. And I am not using nothing. Just posting this vía Chrome.
No overheating for me
I don't know how hot it is in your countries, but at idle, my phone is always on 39°C/40°C (ambient temperature at 27°C-32°C), when I'm playing CoD mobile at max settings it barely reaches 50°C. I think it's fine considering that it's an intensive game.
Same issue with my device
Using k20 pro for last 5 months and now when I connect it to charger cpu temperature is going upto 65 to 70 deg. The battery temp is 37 to 45 . Only this happens when charger connected. Using original charger and cables and Xiaomi powerbank. Tried with changing cables and charger still same issue .
K20 pro getting heated while using camera
I have a major problem which i have never ever faced in any other device .
While using CAMERA , my device gets heated in 10-15 minutes and due to this increased temperature of device its very hard to use it.
A pop up message shows - " your device is over heated " and the camera gets closed automatically.

Rog phone 3 overheating?

Hi,
I noticed that my phone's system temperature while using bypass charging and gaming is around 35 to 42 degrees and 30 to 35 degrees when idle. i reckon heat is the greatest enemy of the phone's durability
. Don't you think this is a bad sign for my phone?
It is actually a very low temperature... I never saw a phone that cool with such power inside. I get it as well without Bypass charging. All the premium phones I had was running hitter than that with a place on the back very hot.

Question What is your 'a full charge will last about' number? (Hours)

Mine is 10. It's always 10 hours Every samsung device I have ever owned has gone done 10% an hour. From my first note to this device ! Are people getting longer?? I'm not talking about screen on time. ...
Assuming you have the Snapdragon variant. Exynos = 7/8 hours... still pretty impressive.
Mine says 2d 2hr. I never come close to using that, I typically don't charge it past 75%, nor let it get below 40%.
13 hours
One day, 14 hours.
Will that happen? Maybe in the land of pixies and rainbows. In real life, if I unplug my phone at 8am then when I go to bed around 11pm the charge is usually around 55-50%. That yields an actual time of around 30 hours (so, 1d 6h) which is actually not *that* far off from the estimate.
I spend all my time near wifi routers so that might help. If I use my phone a fair bit it'll be at 50% by bed. If I don't use it as much I can go through the whole day and still be in the 70's.

It's of course your choice to do so. I don't think being so conservative is necessary. I do a lot of work with electric vehicles and really most manufacturers are intentionally making 0% and 100% not the actual theoretical maximums. 0% for a lithium cell is right around 2-2.5v. It's very unlikely that the phone lets you get there. I'd imagine 0% is really being set somewhere around 2.8v. Likewise for 100%. If they have any common sense at all it's not being set to 4.2v fully charged but rather around 4V. Keeping a lithium cell between 2.8v and 4V doesn't hurt it. It's going much past that gets dangerous. Heat is not good for batteries, cold is REALLY not good for batteries. I have to believe that the phone won't let you charge it if it is too hot or cold. Terrible things happen to freezing cold batteries if you charge them. Of course, charging them too hot leads to a nice side effect if you were too cold or wanted a new house. So, I would say that temperature is one of the biggest considerations for battery life. If you can keep the battery right around room temperature always then it'll last.
But, I am curious. Has anyone taken voltage readings of the battery at full charge and low charge to see where the voltages are at? That might be interesting to see. I'll try to remember to check that.
Edit: looks like the cell chemistry for this phone is way different from what I'm used to in cars. Way higher upper voltage. Interesting. Still curious about the limits.
19 hours and 6 minutes. Interestingly enough, yesterday it was 20.5 hours. So it seems to be constantly changing.

Of course it's not necessary, but tests have shown that batteries last longer with frequent, shallower charges around the middle of their range. I have a charging pad on my desk at work, and at home. It's trivial to occassionally move it on/off the pad. On the rare occasion where I expect I might need a full charge I'll do it, but no sense in charging it up all the way when it's not necessary.

Mine is 1d 17h. Pretty happy with the battery life so far!
Wow. I'm always at 10 hours. Wonder what I'm doing wrong
Think it's pretty nice
This
1 day and 6 hours. Exynos WQHD 120Hz, no AOD.
My S21 Ultra Exynos lasts about 1 day and a half (36 hours) with aod always on and synced to my watch.
22 hours, 21 mins (Ex)
Exynos.
Disconnect at 07:30 am with 100% and can go until I finish work and then some with some battery. I think I get about 10-12 hours and get to 20%
Fluctuates between 24-30 hours
Exynos
2d 2h, Exynos, 120Hz, no AOD. Now im at 39% on day 3. So 3 standard workdays is pretty nice if you ask me. My old S9+ got me over 2 days with one charge safely.
1d6h. Exynos S21 Ultra with 120hz
What do you guys do with your devices that allows them to last such a long time? I'm done in 10 hours every day! Perhaps it's my email?
