OnePlus 7 Pro minimizing huge keyboard chin (How-to) - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Ever since jumping to the OnePlus 7 Pro Android 10
Open Beta (2) I've noticed an added chin to the keyboard. Sure it's probably there for better ergonomics, to me it's just an eye sore.

I've been using FluidNavigationGesture (FNG) app to add additional gestures to the side edges. Now I use it for a different function.
Using the latest beta build, https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/franc...ion-gestures-2-0-beta11-android-apk-download/
You can disable all the gesture (and use the normal Google gestures)
To hide the navbar which will save your space under the keyboard.
Once you install the app you'll need to either have root or need to run an ad command to give it permission to hide the nav bar.
And that's it.
Only issue I've come to is while using Picture In Picture modes in apps. Sometimes you'll have to scroll up from the bottom right to get it to show. Not sure if this is an Android 10 issue or because I'm hiding the NavBar.

Hmm I am 90% certain that the gap still exist on stable 10 as well.

Unfortunately No.
However unpleasing the look of that gap qt the bottom. It makes using the keyboard a lot easier.

Sucks they left it like this. I love the extra space for usability, and it was perfect on Pie - they extended the keyboard background perfectly to the edge. But now we just get a nasty black/white bar for some reason. not sure why they couldn't make it the same way as on Pie (surely something due to the new gesture nav bar). I'm guessing (hoping) they're working on fixing it though and just didn't want that to hold up the release of the update.

For anyone who wants OnePlus to fix this blunder, please go upvote this bug report on their feedback forum: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...oid-10-when-using-navigation-gesture.1109867/
Please don't think it's a futile effort! I have had OP mods DM me to follow up on my bug reports there many times. More votes means it's more likely they'll pay attention to it.

I selected the green color. The white chin turned black which is barely visible.
Usually colors other than the white ones turn the chin black.

I am using Vivid Gestures from the Play Store with root. No "chin" at all.

1) Download adb tools on your PC.
2) Then just connect your phone to PC with developer options enabled.
3) Then type the following in command prompt and hit enter
Code:
adb devices
adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,-105

Thanks for the tip/command. I didn't like that bar/chin on the bottom of the screen.
Update:
After trying both the command and app. I think the app does a better job IMO.

To revert this, would you just enter :
adb shell wm overscan 0,0,0,0
It's chopping the bottom off of some of my toast notifications.
Thank you for the instructions though. I may play around with some different numbers and see if I can find a sweet spot.

[Tool] Android Screencast 0.4 (open-source)

Hello xda community !
I would like to share with you a new open-source project i just started. It's goal is to provide the ability to control your android device witch is connected through USB using mouse and keyboard in the same way it can be done on an emulator.
It's quite usable already but quite slow...
To try it, just go there and launch the JNLP file
Requirement :
Java Runtime >= 5
android sdk installed
your device is connected, in debug mode and detected by adb (type "adb devices" to check)
New in 0.4
Fix spacebar problem
Possible fix for droid display problem (keyboard still not working)
More keycodes mapped and shift key fixed
New In 0.3
Improved explorer
Launch URL from your computer
Key events fix
Hardware keys as buttons
New In 0.2
Basic file explorer (double clic on a file)
Video capture
First attempt to fix permission denied (non root device)
Device selection
Feel free to report issues using the issue tracker @googlecode :
http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/
is this via only pc / linux?
i have a mac lol
but looks goood
it does work on mac/pc/linux great job!

bumpp!!! this is dopeeee
This sounds like a must have application
Can't get it to work on my mac. Just get "Unable to launch application." Any
trick to this?
Works pretty well. Typing is in all caps.
My goodness!
It is choppy, but its such an elegant execution of the idea, love it.
Do you think there's much that can be done in future releases for the choppiness?
Well done!
Edit for MattStang: For the 'Unable to Launch application message', try running something like 'adb shell' first to make sure that the adb service on your computer is running
matt_stang : which Java version is installed on your computer ? Maybe you need to update to Java 6.
I'll look at the chopiness issue but this may be quite difficult.
It's not working on 10.5.6 for me. I would go to system update to see if there's an update for Java, but I'm on a hackintosh

You obviously don't have java 6 installed.I've lowered the requirement from java 6 to java 5 since 6 is not really needed, can you try again using this link ?
How do you connect your device via adb?
I am guessing that not connecting it myself is causing my error, however, If I use "DroidExplorer" (another app I am checking out), I guess it does it for me?
If I just launch screencast:
-getting device list
-unable to launch
If I launch DroidExplorer then screencast I get:
-starting input injector
-unable to launch'
If I launch DroidExplorer, connect with it, then screencast I get:
My G1!!
-Thought I would share in case you want to peek at DroidExplorer and see how it auto connects.
OK, this is seriously cool! I normally hook my G1 up to its USB cable and stick it under my keyboard drawer at work, pulling it out when I ... ahem ... "need" it. Now it can stay under there and I can run it from my desktop. Speed is a bit of an issue but I'm sure that'll get worked out. And, sure, there are bugs but those'll get worked out, too. Heck, I'm donating right now just because of how far you've gotten!
what happened to megan fox johnny? haha
This is a huge development ... Well done Can't wait for the keymap to be finished. The choppiness isn't an issue for me, it still feels more responsive than MyMobiler does on WiMo, and for sms it's extremely useful... Well done Keep it coming
Works Great with my HTC Hero! Its a little slow but a great start! Keep it up...

[MOD] LCD Density - DIY!

Ok guys, people seem to be having problems using the LCD Density changer app, so I am making this write up to help you out
If you would like to make your Droid X look like this...
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then follow these steps.
Method 1 - ADB
1. Download LCD Density w/ 2.2 market Fix - This also contains the 2.2 market fix (without the stagefright)
2. Put the build.prop in your android-sdk\tools folder
3. Connect your phone via usb, make sure it shows up with adb devices
4. adb remount
5. adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
6. adb reboot
Method 2 - Root Explorer
1. Copy the build.prop to the root of your SD card
2. Long press on build.prop
3. Select "Copy"
4. Navigate to /system
5. Click R/W in the top right corner
6. Paste, and overwrite
7. Reboot
Your screen will now look like this, giving you much more space. And If using ADW launcher, you can use 6 X 5 rows of icons!!
Now if you really like to do things yourself, in the build.prop..
Change
ro.sf.lcd_density=240
to
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
push, reboot.
If you want to revert back, just push this Stock Build prop back into place.
Credit to the guy who made LCD Density app, but it did not work with Droid X phone and koush's recovery installed. People had to SBF, so this post was necessary.

Jacked mine up.. the method works fine, the only problem is that apps are completely screwy now.. the apps only show up in the original size so if your screen is 4 inches the app is only displaying in like 2.5 inches of space and the rest is just black now, also cause some fuzziness with some various icons in the notification bar ( battery etc).. definately gonna revert back

Only seemed to have resolution problems in the root explorer app, all other apps work fine Aside from that, i think 200 is probobly a little on the low side, may try 220 or 230 for a improvement
Yea I love it but a few of my apps are also little now. I'm gonna rock it tonight and see how I feel in the morning.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Worked well for me as well.
Thanks very much.
FYI
I couldnt adb remount (got an error, not sure why but whatever)
I had to boot into recovery, then do an
Code:
adb shell
then just (assuming your modified build.prop is on the sdcard root)
Code:
mv /sdcard/build.prop /system
exit & reboot!
230 was a good middle ground
Yeah, I like how it looks mostly but some apps don't strech which is kinda annoying. I'll give it a shot for a day or two and see what I think.

Gesture Control (root)

Please refer to the main thread in Android apps and Games: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535740
I'm developing application that allows you to control tablet with multitouch gestures. Root access is needed. Currently it allows to execute following gestures:
Back:
Swipe 2 fingers from top downward
Home:
pinch 3-4 fingers
Show/Hide status bar:
Swipe 2 fingers from bottom upward
Please try it out and let me know what you think. What other features or actions would be helpful?
You can download it here:

There are a lot of requests for status bar hiding widgets or apps. So you just start the application when you need to hide status bar (for example before browsing or gaming). You don't lock your device in the middle of gaming.
In my opinion it is still better than all other bar hiding apps (and I'm talking about free version of my app). You have to click something in all of them (and here you click - start app). Just in my app you have the opportunity to control your tablet while bar is hidden.
But if you think this version is useless, I value your opinion.

I'm developing on 7.7 myself, so it is tested well on it.
You don't get any error messages, notifications on gestures nothing? Does the last button in settings screen (Status bar toggle) works (hides/unhides) status bar?
I'm now using this and works brilliant. Finding the swipe gestures to suit me. Hiding and unhiding status bar no lag. Keep up the good work. Bought full version.

I will add setting to turn off toast message on unlock (when tutorial mode is switched off). However free version will stay for occational use. Application contains a lot of native code that will need support with new versions/devices. And the application is niche anyway. I really tried using this version myself and I find it usefull, but you can propose different model, I'm open for ideas.

Well, there are other apps for this (HideBar - free, Honeybar - 1$), my intention is to evolve the gesture part. Allow to create your own gestures and define your own actions.
Any chance of making the gestures more like the ipad? E.g. 5 finger pinch to home? Its a more natural closing type gesture imo

Also fixed a bug that I think prevented actions from working on some devices.
Excellent, thanks!
I just bought it and it recognises my gestures fine but it stopped doing anything after the first gesture?
It still pops up with home etc but doesnt do the action.
If i open the gesture app and disable and reenable the service again it works for one action and stops again

Yes, i am on Android Q beta 4. There is an option now to use the old navbar. AFAIK, the beta was pulled because when you update from beta 3 to beta 4, there were issues. But i dont have any issues at all, coming from an Pie stock image. Works great, absolutly rock stable for me.

How to disable Android Pie gestures on the Google Pixel 3
1. Install any 3rd-party launcher of your choice. This is a must because otherwise, you won’t have a launcher app left once we’re done with this tutorial!
2. Set up ADB on your PC. Here’s a tutorial we previously wrote that you should you through the process.
3. Connect your Pixel 3 to your PC and open up a command prompt/terminal in the directory where you downloaded the ADB binary. Enter the following command depending on your OS:
Windows Command Prompt
adb shell
Windows Power Shell
.\adb shell
macOS/Linux Terminal
./adb shell
4. Now, enter the following command to uninstall the Pixel Launcher from the current user.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.apps.nexuslauncher
5. Now, enter this command to re-enable the stock navigation bar after reboot. This is the setting you’ll be changing by issuing the below command.
settings put secure system_navigation_keys_enabled 1
6. Reboot your Pixel 3.
7. Once you’re booted back up, you should see the original 3 button navigation bar layout and the original vertical stacked card recent apps overview.
What I did is just use Titanium Backup and freeze Pixel Launcher. After a reboot I had the old navigation back.

Everytime I get a new smartphone, one of my first steps is it to install the Nova launcher and so I have done this time. To be honest I do not know if its possible with the Pixel Launcher too, I dont think so cause the Pixel Launcher is not very configurable.
If you're using Pixel Launcher, is there any way to get four grid columns instead of five? The app name gets cut off on half of my apps, it's ridiculous. I've gone back to Nova launcher for now but I miss the system integrations that Pixel launcher has.

Disable Heads-up Display System Wide?

I can't seem to figure out how to disable the heads-up display systemwide. I tried the system UI tuner which has a heads-up display button. But when I disable it from there it only seems to work sometimes or for some apps. I also tried turning off the pop on screen option in the notification section in each app. But that doesn't seem to work for all apps and only sometimes and not on the lock screen. Anyone have any suggestions?
Power Shade has that option. Haven't tested that function myself - https://www.xda-developers.com/power-shade-brings-android-11-media-controls-ui-any-android-device/
questions should be posted in q/a please post in proper section i have moved your thread for you
Anyone with a native solution?

Can this be done using a terminal emulator on the phone or only from a PC?

It worked on my P2 XL but not on this P4XL. I already deleted the app but I still have my original system UI tuner app

I got the system UI tuner I already had installed to work. I had to allow "modify system settings" under the app settings. Now the heads up toggle works. Thank you for your help.
