Dark Mode? - OnePlus 7 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Let's discuss about dark mode. For me both light and dark has its pro's and cons. Let's hear yours.

Found out that the dark mode really just "inverts" colors...for example: All my facebook notifications, the profile picture for the person that made the notification shows like the colors have been inverted. Pretty lazy way to implement dark mode imo...not sure if it's on FB to fix it or Google/OnePlus lol. Looks very tacky though.

Seems to me as though if an app doesn't have a dark mode to switch to the statusbar icons go black on the dark background making them impossible to see when dev settings force dark mode is on. Maybe there's a setting I'm missing. Kinda like it either way, though, so dealing with the minor inconvenience.

Yes, i can confirm the same behavior.
Also if anyone is using 3rd party launcher like Lawnchair then the google search widget on the launcher shows white/light text. Mind you this is not the standard google search widget rather it is part of the dock.
There are other few issues with dark mode as well, will post it when i remember.

The fact that I can change at will is good enough for me. I typically change to dark for a few days until I get tired. Often when outside in bright daylight dark doesn't work well for my taste. I spend about 25% on dark.

For me the play store has gone black today. Looks nice.

I can not live with the force dark mode flag.
Comments in facebook are white with light grey text "not readable"
The Google apps that have native dark mode look fine to me, inside or outside.
Still waiting for the server side release of Dark mode for Gmail, it will look great.

Yes..I feel the same. Poor implementation of dark mode. Just inverting colors make some things look weird, glitchy and somethings unreadable. I have returned back to light mode.

Dark mode is not working correctly because app developers have yet to implement it properly. The OnePlus setting is not a true dark mode. I believe iOS 11 had a similar feature that was never fully implemented by app developers until iOS 13. Android 10 is playing catch-up in this area.
The Google apps, however, are being rolled out properly. I have proper dark mode on all of those with the exception of Gmail and Google Assistant. This could take some time to fully implement.

LED Notification Light Deciphering

Been doing some searching, but there doesn't seem to be much info regarding the different colors and frequency of flashes that the LED notification light is capable of, depending on the notification received on the Nexus 4, so here goes.
This is just regarding the stock setup without LED modification apps, etc. So far, I have found that the LED has a few different patterns and colors depending on the type of notification that you receive. I am also wondering if there is any way to adjust the behavior of LED notification light in the stock configuration without additional apps or rooting with custom ROMs, etc. I have checked around within the settings of the different apps but aside from a few giving the option simply to use the notification light or not, it seems that it is not possible to adjust the behavior. Here are the details that I have discovered so far:
- Gmail, stock email app, stock text messaging app, others? - White LED, flashes once every 10 seconds
- Google Voice messages, Ebay app, Official Twitter app - Green LED, flashes once every 2 seconds
- Yahoo Mail - Violet LED, flashes once every 2 seconds
- Facebook, Tasks app, Plume - Blue LED
- Flight Track app - Yellow/Orange LED
- Google Messenger, Calendar, others? - No LED notification flash
This is just what I have observed so far after about a week with this awesome phone. Feel free to add to this list based on your observations and I will update the list. Thanks!
There won't be any way to adjust these without additional apps. It's left up to each particular app to support it and pick a color.
I seem to remember the old TweetDeck app was yellow.

All apps can do different colors, but it just depends on the code. The Google+ used to use Red LED notifications, but they've since returned to using green (I think this is a step-backward, but whatever). Yahoo Mail did Purple when I last used it, and Flight Track uses Orange/Yellow. I suggest just downloading LightFlow or Rooting/Flashing a custom ROM for increased control (you can even specify blink frequency and other settings). The problem is, not many phones have had RGB LEDs, so App Devs have no reason to support them. With the GS3, New RAZRs, and the Optimus G/Nexus 4, hopefully this changes, although the LEDs seem to behave weird on some phone models, especially the RAZRs...

could the red LED be for sync error? google mail had an outage the other day.
Facebook notifications are blue on mine, which is neat.

Good to know, although I don't use Facebook right now.
My LED didn't work from the factory, installed light flow and now at least it works the way I would have wanted it to from the factory.
I wished Google + would use the red LED again. I thought it was cool with the FB blue and G+ red.
Plume (Twitter app) also is Blue by default but can be customized in the settings.
Just got an eBay notification and they use green too. I would have assumed yellow....
Edit:
Forgot to add, the flash rate is fast, like on one second, off one, then back on.

Get Lightflow:

It'll take about an eon or so to set up, but once it's up and running it'll change your life. I have customized the LED notifications for all of my different accounts/apps in such a way that I rarely even turn my phone off vibrate anymore - I can tell exactly what is waiting by looking at what color(s) are displayed on the LED.
Good info and thanks for the comments! Also I am aware of light flow but am just looking at the stock setup.
Before I go with lightflow, I'm going to need to see two things. 1. Full compatibility with the N4 (there are bugs) and 2. Proof this won't drain my battery or prevent notifications from appearing. My battery isn't doing too hot and I don't need something else draining it!

One of my LEDs is dead
What color LEDs are there in there? I'm assuming RGB
I noticed my colors are off, tried several LED control apps, particularly "LED Tester", and none can get the Blue LED going. And my white is yellow. G and R are fine. Any advice beyond LED is dead?
I'm so sick and tired of QC on this phone ... I think I'm done with it. Returning for a refund, money wasted on now useless accessories, some of which are still in the mail

I prefer Light Manager. Much easier to set up. Plus notifications for charging.

Lightflow has notifications for charging. I say it's a pain to set up initially because picking a color for 41290 different notifications can take awhile, but the setup really is quite intuitive. It's been changed a lot in the last couple months - might be worth looking again some time.

I've had no issues on my Nexus 4 with it. It's never drained my battery on this nor my Galaxy Nexus. Its memory footprint is tiny and it has no reason to wakelock the phone since all it does is intercept when a notification shows up (so the other app is what actually wakes the phone). It's really well designed.

One question for you. I know that because of how light flow works, if it doesn't support an app the led won't work on that app even if that app has it's own led ability, but will the phone still display the notification (minus the light) for an unsupported app?

If you guys are rooted and installed the stock AOSP browser, for some reason Light Flow breaks it.
Once light flow is installed and permission is set in accessibility, the stock AOSP browser starts behaving badly and stops working correctly.
The autohide url bar stops working, when changed to full screen mode there is either a glitchy image at the top or a blank black area where the url bar is supposed to be. Problem completely goes away once light flow is uninstalled.
Very frustrating because I can't stand Chrome, and I need the AOSP browser + lightflow. It's either one or the other.

Have you talked about this issue in the Light Flow thread here?:

Maybe it helps to get it solved.

As far as showing up in the notification bar? Absolutely. The apps themselves control that, not lightflow.
Personally I don't have any apps that lightflow doesn't support by now, but I'm sure there's some out there.

How to completely Disable Bravia Engine

Since I've got my Xperia T I have noticed a weird screen behavior I hadn't seen yet in any other android phone, whereas the device adjusts not just the backlighting, but also the contrast and the saturation based on the onscreen content.
I outright dislike it, as it's not seamless - you can actually see them slowly changing while you navigate your android screens, and it's not limited to photos and videos, as someone says. It's system-wide.
Just try closing all tabs in Chrome (remain with the dark chrome background icon), and look at the status bar icons: they are pale white, not bright white. Then open a browser tab and watch the address bar colors (sand, white, and black text), go through all of the shades of grey, before finally settling to the right colors. It's not just Chrome... every time your display shows a dark scene going brighter, you can see it happen.
Couldn't it stick to the max contrast and saturation setting, just like what we see in the photo album?
Alternatively, is there a way to disable the bravia engine and make my screen behave like all other screens?
Thank you for any answer

I never noticed it before but you are right, i see the same effect.
Even if i disable Mobile Bravia Engine in settings... now as i know it a bit annoying.

Apparently that setting affects just the Bravia Engine behavior when watching pictures or videos.
I did notice that behavior on my XT screen but i don't think it's a bravia engine issue, i believe is sony stock roms problem. Actually i'm on recCoba's curiosity Rom, wich has the same acreen behavior, but i don't temember too well but i think when i was on jellybam rom the screen was behaving as a regular screen but as i said i can't say it for sure. Someone with a CM bases rom could tell if that happens too on those roms
It has already been discussed -

(Q) is posible disable the low bit mode

In some watchfaces, when the watch go into low bit mode (black and grey colors) it lost quality and I wish to have the colors always
Mine does the same, almost all watchfaces, any fix?
Nobody can do it maybe, if a know something i tell you, but I understand that is normal in this watch

The black and grey mode is the "dimmed" version of the watchface, and is what the watch does when you set it to be Always On. Blacks save battery on the watch – however, if you want color, you're going to have to either find a watchface that supports colors on the dimmed version, or make your own. I use the app called WatchMaker, and you can customize which elements of a watchface to turn dimmed (black and white) or stay that way all the time.

Force Night Mode in Android Auto

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to force night colors in android auto. The day colors look so washed out for some reason and was hoping to just use night colors all day long. Thanks!
And while I am at it, does anyone else think that the traffic symbols in Google Maps is way too thin to see clearly. Would rather have it more like it is on the actual phone.

On my 4100NEX, I have the ability to manually set the night/day mode trigger. It can be auto-triggered by the headlights, or set on a timer. You could probably set it to run on a timer, and set it so it pretty much stays in night mode all of the time.

I messed around with the the settings for a couple days. First, I had it set go into (and out of) night mode at a specific time. Around the same time as sunrise/sunset. Now I just have it set to night mode because I too prefer that setting. It also seems to make the traffic lines more visible. Would be nice if satellite layer was an available option too.

Thanks so much for the replies......I appreciate the support!
Activate developer mode in Android Auto and one of the dev options is to force night mode.

Question Does disabling individual apps in MIUI Dark mode ever work?

Hello. I saw this problem with my previous MI 9T and now also with the Redmi Note 10 Pro. I prefer Dark mode on all the time, but I have an issue with the Google Sheets app reversing the shades of cell colors and of black text but leaving white text white. This makes some content unreadable, so I want to only have Sheets stay in light mode.
But, using "View in light theme" within Sheets reverts cell shades back yet keeps the text white, so it's even worse. So I tried unchecking Sheets from the More Dark mode options->Individual apps list of the MIUI Dark Mode, but it's not stopping the Dark Mode from being applied. That option actually doesn't change anything for any app I tried it with.
Any solution?
