Easy way to toggle mobile data? - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Hello. I'm using Samsung S10e and because of the guarantee issues, I couldn't root it. I was using Tasker with my old phone without a tiny problem and now I'm stuck with this new one since some automatization doesn't work well in Bixby Routines. Is there a really simple way to toggle mobile data and WIFI? Specifically, I want mobile data off when I am home and on when WIFI disconnects.

Have you tested either the built in mobile data action, or the AutoTools secure settings mobile data action? In rare cases, you might find it works without root. In my experience, the built in action either works or it doesn't. But the AutoTools secure settings action often toggles the display (QS tile) but doesn't actually affect the radio.
In most cases, without root you would need to emulate the taps required to Google mobile data manually. That can be done through AutoInput.
Wi-Fi can be toggled typically without issue though.

Thanks for your answer. Actually, I came across wit Autoinput solution but it is hard to apply and not completely convenient in my point of view. Could you offer anything else involving Bixby routines?

Sorry, I haven't had a Samsung since the Epic 4G days [emoji4]
The only other thought I have is in developer options there is a setting "mobile data always on" you could toggle that off and mobile data should go of when connected to Wi-Fi. I have no idea if Samsung software honors that setting.

App to choose data connectivity on the fly

Hi everyone,
I remembered this from my Nokia E71 days. Everytime I would launch an application that required data, the phone would ask me which network to use of the available ones. Of course I had the choice to disable this, and restrict access to only one network such as wifi always or a wifi-first policy.
I am wondering if any of the droid apps/ROMs/mods offer this capability.
This is specifically to maintain a user controlled wifi/3g/nodata equilibrium to manage battery and costs better.
Any help would be much useful.
Thanks!
The firewall droidwall allows you to restrict apps to either wifi, 3g, or none. But it has to be configured in advance, no pop up functionality exists as far as I know.
Not really what I am looking for... But thanks.
Anyone else who can help?

I use beautiful widget toggles to quickly turn on or off either wifi or network data. So, when I won't be using either one for a while, they can both be off.

Also, as a follow up, I have also used Juice defender to sort of manage this, though whether or not it actually saves more battery than it uses is quite debated. I just use the toggles on my home screen to do to manage this manually, though very quickly.

[Q] Automatically change to mobile data is wifi data speed too low, like in BB

Hi.
Is there any way for our android device to automatically start using mobile data even if its connected to a WIFI network, like it does in Iphone and Blackberry.
There are times you go to a certain location and having used their wifi before, your phone automatically connects to it only to find out that no data is transmitting and you can sit there for hours not realizing your phone is disconnected from the internet whereby, in BB or iphone, the phone just switches over to mobile data and keeps you online.
Most apps available just toggle wifi on and off but none I've seen can keep WIFI connected and still use mobile data.
Any help will be appreciated
There is an option, that the phone only connects to wifi if there is a good connection (under wlan --> advanced )
Hope this helps.
Same problem (but inverse)
Hi everybody,
I'm facing the same problem, just inverse: when the phone "considers" the wifi signal "too weak", it automatically switches to mobile data (even if the latter are disabled), the result is the mobile frequently drop the connection in some places at home where the signal is a little less intense.
In my phone, the option mentioned by Marc199 doesn't exist (or isn't displayed)...
What can I do?
Is there a way to access "hidden" settings like the one mentioned?
Thanks for your answers!

Well, you can always use the quick settings to turn off the mobile data.

Well, there might be a chance that HTC removed (or never implemented) this feature. I'm using a GPE ROM.
If you mean the developer options, they won't be any use to you.
BestSignal Wifi-->Mobile Data App
I just installed BESTSIGNAL on my **HTC ONE M7**from the developer of the same name (BestSignal).
It's the paid version but only AUD1.99 and it works well, simple yet highly functional GUI. However it was not compatible on my Google Nexus 7 (2012) nor my ASUS Transformer TF700T so be sure to check your device compatibility.
As a XDA newbie I'm not allowed to include active HTML links so the App URL extension is: details?id=com.eightythirty.bestsignal and the Dev's is: developer?id=BestSignal

Best option is using auto input and Tasker.
Auto input is basically a Tasker plugin that creates a virtual touch on your screen without root.
Or else you can also do this using autoTools secure settings but you will need adb for that and it won't work after reboot

Ok. One thing maybe you can help me with. I've noticed that after setting up my wifi with tasker the wifi shuts off from time to time. I don't think it's signal strength because I'm either 3 or full bars. Then like a few seconds later tasker will turn it back on. I know its triggered from the cell tower but I have no idea.

I don't experience the same.
It works just perfect for me.
Are you sure you are not doing something wrong?
Try mailing the developer
It could just be my router. It's in the basement and I'm 2 floors above
As for determining your proximity to your location, one good idea is to use two different sized or two location geo fences that you can cross reference against each other

Question Data connection is active even when on WiFi

Hi all,
I'm noticing that the data connection seems to be active even when on WiFi. Is there any option that I need to disable so that the phone runs entirely on WiFi. I looked in the developer options and keep data alive option is unchecked. Am I missing something?

Hi, just go into Wi-Fi Settings / Advanced and switch off tab (Switch to mobile data)
That's all.
Hi. Thanks for this but this option was never enabled in the first place. Anyways, it's self corrected now...aah..the wonders of the tech world

It's enabled by default just to keep your internet connection stable when wi-fi has an issues.

It will re-appear occasionally. Even if you turn off the "Switch to Mobile Data" setting, the mobile data icons and wifi icons will appear concurrently on the status bar. This happens even when the wifi connection is solid. Usually the mobile data icon disappears after a few seconds or minutes on its own. I'm not sure if its by design (for MMS or RCS or something else) or if it's a bug. But you're not the only one seeing this. My colleague has an S21U too and he shared a similar experience.

I'm suffering from the opposite problem!
I *WANT* to keep mobile data enabled while connected to Wi-Fi, but the setting on my phone has no effect! When I turn on the setting, my phone will still ignore mobile data.
I verify this by connecting to my dashcam via Wi-Fi. The dashcam does not provide any internet via Wi-Fi, but merely allows my phone to view the dashcam output and stored files. But once I connect my phone to the dashcam, then my phone has no connection to the internet. I can't force it to use the mobile data at that point. The phone is not behaving as it should. My older phone, LG G6, is able to successfully connect to the dashcam and still access the data through the cell signal.
The S21 Ultra simply cannot achieve this. I have the T-mobile variant, in the US.
I believe this is a bug. Can you get this setting to actually work? Like maybe test it by connecting your phone to your Wi-Fi router but disconnect the modem from the Wi-Fi router?
I'll post a separate thread for this, because I think it's a bug and maybe others are suffering from it without realizing.

Question Keep mobile data permanently on.

I would like to have my mobile data always on on my Android.
Is there a way of forcing it permanently on?
What I need is a situation where even if the user of the phone switches the data off, it quickly switches itself back on or just refuses to switch off.
Or if there is a third party app i can use to force data on i would appreciate.
You can find this setting in the developer settings. No need for root
The one in developer mode is one that keeps Mobile data on even when WiFi is on.
But what I need is a situation where even if the data on/off toggle in settings is switched off, it would automatically switch itself on or just refuse to switch off.
