With root, sure.
I haven't gotten substratum to work and I'm rooted. It works like I can load up the app but I don't want to bootloop if I mess anything up.

what you do is enable native dark mode which works on system apps anyway(asus apps). apply substratum theme for downloaded and google apps. thats a better way.

Is it just the app that is not working? Does it crash?
Also, I don't think M gives you enough space to do anything on the system partition. ....And unless you have a custom kernel that removed /system r/w protection, you also won't be able to modify anything.
So Further to the question above, if the app does not crash;
How much free space do you have on System?
What kernel are you using? Link to thread.
Looks like it is working using the lastest JDX rom. So it might have been the system partition as you suspected. I also able to use adaway and change the dpi which was not working before. Thanks!

Can a link to this rom be provided?
What exactly is it thats preventing fonts from being installed...?
Would a kernel fix it

Yes, as long as the kernel is removing r/w protection. I know there was a special version of Elemental X 3.00 but that is not posted in post 1 of the thread. I am not sure of the newer versions include that or not.
JDX is a stock based rom in the android development forum which presumably has the modded kernel.
Sweet thanks, I'll have a look
Hello guys i wanted to ask that has anyone tried substratum's rootless add-on for oreo to use custom theme. I can't decide on which phone to buy. I am stuck between Galaxy S8 and Nokia 8.

If the system language is set to Dutch the Play Store will not be themed, it works in English though. The dev is working on that bug atm.

As everyone knows that Android 8.0+ supports OMS. So, has anyone used the Andromeda and Substratum to apply a theme? Does it work flawlessly?

I'm using Substratum in Andromeda Mode on my 7+ (TA-1046) running 8.1. I've tested a few themes and tweaks.
Til now only one theme (Vacuum) caused problems (SystemUI crashes) and I had to disable it manually over ADB.
Everything else works as it should.

You can go and buy the app 'Andromeda', install the app 'Substratum' and install a supported theme for Andromeda (for example 'yoru.') from the Google Play Store. Follow the instructions in the Andromeda app.
i installed apitode store and from there i installed free andromeda and substratum tooo, when i flashed it via pc clients , everything works but it shows error at last, verification failed in substratum, what to do, should i buy paid version andromeda from playstore or not.?

For in-app purchases, while it's not easy to get a refund without the approval of the developer, you can try via the same process as with the 48-hour window.

Ugh, I guess you didn't read the description of the app on the Play Store. You'll have to enable Andromeda through a program on your computer (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/andromeda-desktop-clients-release-notes-t3668682/) via USB every time you want to update or install new themes.
Here's it step-by-step:
1) Enable USB Debugging through Developer options in Settings by tapping 5 times in a row on Build number in "About phone"
2) Download and open the Windows script provided in the link I typed above.
3) A dialog will pop up on your phone asking you for giving access to your computer. Allow it
4) If it doesn't work, open the script on your PC again.

Not possible. Cause that's built in the system. Unless you Port OxygenOS as a GSI for all device it's not possible. Although there are many apps in the Play Store that do the same implementation. OnePlus Gestures being the most notable.
