My out of the box Nexus 6 is now stuck looping on and off at the Google boot screen after it tried to install the system update.
I've used the toolkit 1.9.8 to go back to stock. It goes thru the steps appearing to show OKAY and finished at each step. It never reboots the phone at the end. I try to force reboot after waiting for several minutes and it still boot loops. I try again the process again and sometimes it loops and a few times it actually starts up to the welcome screen. However, if I try to root or update recovery (using the toolkit), I get the boot looping again.
Did google bork my phone during a failed update? Is there anything else I can do to completely restore the phone? I've also downloaded the images on google and flashed---same boot loop.
Ultimately, my phone is now booting up to the welcome screen as expected and shows LRX21O. BUT, if I try to do anything (root or recovery), boot loop results again.
(I was able to unlock the phone and know about the usb debug and OEM unlock settings in dev menu, fyi).
So, I have a blue and white Nexus 6. The blue one has been unlocked, rooted and twrp. The white has been too but has an issue where it sometimes loops at the google logo. The only way to get it running again is to turn off the phone and wait a few minutes.
I've used the wug toolkit (1.9.8 and .9) MANY times to go back and forth from various states of factory and unlocked/locked/rooted/unrooted/unecrypted/etc. They all "work" in the sense that eventually it will boot up but at various points it gets boot looping again. I've done factory resets within the OS and recovery. Same problem.
Has anyone seen this....where a phone will boot loop but temporarily turning off resolves it? Is something corrupted and not recoverable? I really want to keep the white one but have no choice it seems. Is there another file I can flash that isn't in the google factory images?
Desperate!
PS: This seems to have started happening since I got the white phone---I think that first OTA went wonky but have no idea how to start over pre-OTA. The blue one has given me ZERO issues and is unlocked/rooted/twrp.
Last night I started messing with the S5, I used Odin to restore to stock, then took all the OTA updates all the way to the 4.4.4 one that came out recently and after that I debloated it and removed the att apps and such, everything was fine. I tried changing the boot animation but messed up somewhere along the way and it wouldn't show a boot animation at all but still booted and got to the main screen and functioned perfectly. I decided to start over and tried to use Odin to restore to stock 4.4.2 but after flashing the first screen comes on and says that it's custom and has the open lock symbol then shows a slow and laggy samsung boot animation before freezing at some point on the animation and the screen goes completely black but the blue LED light stays on and it does nothing after that. I have tried using Odin repeatedly and erasing everything through recovery and nothing works. Please, any help would be appreciated.
It has been fixed I believe, I flashed the G900A_OA1_Stock_Kernel.tar.md5 and it works again.
Where did you get the .tar.md5 file? I think I just bricked myself out of recovery mode
Hi!
After receiving my OP 3T, I unlocked it and went to a Nougat firmware and rom. Failing to get VoLTE, VoWifi and SMSC settings on that rom, I tried further roms, one with the recommendation to do a full wipe. At the very end, I downgraded to OOS 3.5.4, but forgot to deactivate the password before starting the OS. That forced me to format userdata via TWRP and that way decrypt the phone the hard way.
With OOS 3.5.4, VoLTE, VoWifi and SMSC settings did work again fine and I would stay with that OS.
So I tried to reencrypt the rooted phone.
Starting that process from settings, the 3T bootet and stucked in the OS splash animation screen (the two white bubbles circling around the red bubble). After 1+ hour I bootet the phone which suceeded. Obviously nothing was happened, the phone remained unencrypted.
Does anyone has a hint how I can get the phone reencrypted?

I recently did this with the most recent version of twrp, the official one from the twrp website, however a quick fix i believe is to flash stock recovery, reboot, encrypt and then flash twrp. Both methods worked for me

Hi!
Thanks for your reply.
With both latest TWRP 3.1.0-1 and the official recovery, I see the green android robot and then the phone shows the screen with the two white rotating bubbles around the red bubble... but no progress indicator or anything else.
Booting the phone out of that screen shows that nothing happened....

Hmm I'm not sure then. I'm using the latest FreedomOS so it could have something go do with that. Also rooted with magisk but no other system mods
I think I found the reason...
After I unrooted the phone, it did not stuck in the boot animation (or for whatever that animation was used, it is the same as when booting but the phone did not boot) but continued into the encrytpion progress screen.
I remember having had such an effect with a Samsung some time ago where encryption also failed as long as a process was running related to a rooted phone.
I had TWRP already and flashed the V8.5 ROM from https://forum.xda-developers.com/r1-hd/development/modified-8-3-stock-rom-t3602672. Appeared to be successful since it gave no errors but now the device has been stuck on the splash screen for over 45 mins now. When I try to boot into recovery, it just displays the android on its back with a red exclamation symbol. Is there a way to fix/revert this?
update: did factory reset, i think it removed my bootloader though. guessing it's not possible get that back?
update2: never mind, managed to get twrp again
