Few days ago I deleted all unnecessery ringtones, notification sounds and alarm sounds from corresponding folders on the root of my Note 8 internal memory. But suddenly, after about a day all those deleted sounds are back. But they are not visible within the file explorer. They are only showing up when I try to change my ringtones and notification sounds. One more weird thing is that almost all sounds are doubled - every sound showing up twice, like it was copied.
I suspect that it may be somehow connected with samsung and google accounts, because I left automatic backup on both accounts. But I can't find those files on any of two mentioned accounts to delete unwanted sounds there too.
Any help?

I upgraded to FRG83D a couple of days ago and all has been well. Today I have been getting two SMS notifications for each SMS I receive . . . one shows the old postcard style icon, the other shows the current smiley face messaging icon. I didn't even know the postcard style icon was still in use, so I'm at a loss. The second notification comes through as a totally separate notification about a second after the first, and instead of saying who the message is from, it merely says that I have one unread message.
Any ideas?
You have 2 apps "seeing" the SMS. One is stock, one is something else. Check what programs you have installed (other SMS client). Look in /system/app, you might have 2 stock clients installed, one old with wrong name (names are case-sensitive).

I don't have any third party messaging app installed, so I know that's definitely not it. Is there a way of checking this out without having a rooted phone? I checked the FAQ but everything I saw points to needing root access.
Uncheck Read Reports in the messenger app settings.
I actually just figured it out. Well, fixed it, still don't know why it was doing it in the first place. I just went to Settings>Applications>Messaging and clicked "erase data" and it seems to be fixed. I'm at a loss as to why it started in the first place.

My mum has a small mp3 file she received via bluetooth. Is there any way she can set this as an SMS notification?
Thanks.

Create /media/audio/notifications
On sdcard and place the tones in notifications folder. And they will now appear in the notification ringtone settings.

Thanks. Will have to give that a try when my mum gets back with her phone. She's been bugging me about this all day!

also create folder ringtones for ringtones and alarms for alarms..
thanks a lot for this post .i've been trying to find how to change native ringtones, alarms, notifications.
gave up finally, but now hehehee going to change asap.;_)))
Or you can download rings extended from the market.
On the original stock Android version there was an option to use an mp3 or wav file as a ring tone, contacts tone or notifications tone.
In ICS the notifications option is no longer there.
Any ideas how to do this?
I have seen on the OS folder where the tones are stored but have not unlocked/rooted yet so cant paste to that folder.
Go to you music folder long press the song and set as ringtone.

As mentioned, I have no problem setting the phone or contact ring tone.
It's the custom notifications tone that I cant set since upgrading to ICS.

Make a new folder under your sd card called media if there not one already.Should be media/audio then a notifications folder and a ringtones folder.Put your ringtones and notifications here. Then you can set anything in these folder as ringtone or notification.I use astro file manager to access the folders on my phone but you can do it connected to your pc as well.
You may even try astro file manager to access the folder you say you can't get to.Works on mine using ICS.

Many thanks. There was a folder on the SD card called notifications. I put the tone in there and then could access it from the SMS settings. I used ES File Explorer.
Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

i think that android apps are not AS GOOD AS IPHONE's.......
its more apps developers problem than HTCONE......
i think you gotta sell this one and buy iphone 17S....
PS. sorry i just had to write that......
The extra beeping is like a door opening sound at a corner store, two quadruple beeps of the same tone played at the same time as the tone I set. I can remove the one I set but not the beeps (unless i silence). It was working fine until I installed some work software to receive work e-mails securely. Can't see how that would mess things up, but even so I should be able to change the beeping tone somehow. I have gone through the settings in the message app (3 dot), notification tone option removes my tone not the beeps same as through settings the normal way. Thanks for the help.
I just got my phone, and I'm having the same issue...
I get the sms notification sound I had set, and I get the additional beeping (to me it sounds like a fire alarm).
I've tried other sms apps (Textra ans Signal) and it's the same issue with them as well.
Have you or anyone else a solution to this?
For anyone having the same issue, I fixed it with a factory reset, and I didn't import any old settings. When I first set up my phone I imported stuff from my google cloud sync, and that might have caused the issue. When I imported my previous settings, it also installed all my old apps, so one of those apps could have caused the issue as well. If I find the culprit of this bug, I will post a followup here for anyone who also might experience it.
i got my p20 pro yesterday and have it update but dont have this problem
I had this issue. I disabled private space and it was solved. It maybe had to do with the private space counterpart of the Messages app getting a duplicate notification for SMS. You could try disabling/silencing it if you don't want to disable private space completely. Hope this helps.
