Recently i purchased Galaxy Note & i really love it but i dont like its camera.
When i open my camera app picture look beautiful & very clear but when i shot the picture it becomes dull. I tried several other camera apps also same result.
I think its because of HD display picture looks beautiful before capturing it. After capture the picture it becomes dull. I am confused why so? its because of HD display or software problem or hardware problem??
Anyone facing this problem or am i alone??
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
Phone FW Version: OOEI08
Please reply me friends. if its hardware fault then i have to return it
i have problems in zooming...autofocus works very bad..
Without zooming i have good pics, expecially macro
Cam FW Version: OOEI08
I think in software problems, not hardware
Waiting for next Firm upgrade...and android 4...
You are not alone. I was about to post a thread with the exact same problem. I'm really disappointed at the moment as I'm uncovering more and more problems with the phone each day.
Software issue
I was having the same problem, go to settings, ISO, remove from auto to 800, the pics wouldn't become dull anymore... i hope...

All cameras with digital zoom will look very bad if zoomed in. It is because the image is enlarged using its pixels rather than the lens....so as you zoom in the pixels just get bigger. I t's just like when zooming in on a photo using pinch to zoom.. ..if you zoom right in you can see individual pixels and the image will look blurred.
This is not a fault, just one of the downsides of using digital zoom.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It's not digital zoom, it's definitely the auto focus.
I have a batch of good pics from when I first started using the Note, so makes me believe the latest firmware update messed things up, especially since macro pics look fantastic.

Forgot to mention, I am experiencing the same problem as the original post. The pictures look perfect in the frame a micro-second before capturing, then the actual image turns out a bit fuzzy.

I had the same problem, but I think I have solved the problem now. When I took picture, it turned out to be very dull. I was playing around with my case today and all of a sudden, I found a clear film attached to the lens. After removed, the new picture taken became well again. You may want to see if you also has the film on the lens not removed.
I wish it was that simple.
Something in the image processing is softening the image before it's saved to the phone. If anyone has any suggestions please reply (though I've pretty much used up all the combinations).
Note, (ha!) the front facing camera takes nice crisp images, what I would also expect from the main camera.
Yes im facing same problem! I see a nice preview and when i take a pic it looks really bad ! It is disappointing really...It was not like that on the Galaxy SII.
A few things to try.Enable the anti shake function and try to keep the phone still when taking pictures. No phones take good pictures in low light situations,so when abundant light is not available switch to night mode. This will brighten the picture considerably.
Also I find the auto ISO tends towards the low setting even when light is poor so adjust the ISO manually. This might explain why some people find pictures a bit dark.
The image for me after taking an image is very dull. Like the recorded colours are reduced from what you see on the screen before capture. This is also true for video recording. I have attached a photo compairing the images of captured vs shown on the screen before capture. Hopefully someone can fix this. It must be a software issue because the hardward already shows great images before capture.

Which firmware version are you running?
hi. actually i got this problem on first time. i got this problem fix after i reset camera setting. try it yourself
I suggest you turn off the auto brightness and set the display brightness to Max and turm auto adjust screen power then try again.
I think you think the pictures are dull after they were taken because of the screen auto brightness .
I figure the camera app will increase your screen brightness for whatever brightness setting you are on and the gallery app. Wouldn't.
So you will see a duller image in gallery preview versus the camera app viewfinder , hence lead you a misconception of the picture look dull compare to the camera viewfinder.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
It actually has nothing to do with the screen, rather it's how the image is captured. The software is softening the image, so even downloaded images appear dull.
And it's only the rear camera. My front camera images are crisp both on the Note's screen and when uploaded elsewhere.

Your right, brightness was set at 0% but camera app always goes to full.
Silly me!
However, the problem is still there but not so obvious as in the images I posted. The colour is undersaturated compaired to viewfinder and its also blurred/ not as sharp. That is also when taking a photo using a perfectly still stand.
I'm noticing the same thing. The pictures are dull and not as sharp as what I see on the screen. this is a huge disappointment that I hope Samsung will fix soon.
i would like to know some fix about this too... hopefully there is a nice reasoning to image becoming dull...
faced kinda a similar prob on my HTC desire hd wherein the pics became yellow however changing the AUTO WHITE balance helped me.... However on my note it doesnt.
We all know how rubbish the photos captured with the HTC One in the dark are (in terms of focusing)- the photos appear fuzzy and blurry. This is because, unlike other phones, for some odd reason, there is no "light-assisted" focus.
Does anyone know of a way to modify the camera app or any other way to force light assisted focus when taking photos in the dark?

I'd much rather prefer to stick with my current ROM (RGUI) to be honest. Isn't there any other way?
Thanks for your response though.
Is there not an option in RGUI to put a flashlight toggle in the EQS? That would have the same effect.

I can't seem to find such an option?
EDIT: Camera doesn't open with the flashlight turned on.
I'm confused as to how the camera is poor at focusing on the dark when the sensor inherently picks up more light? When I was doing some tests for another thread on low light issues I was always able to focus quite easily in the middle of the night because the sensor let's you see a lot of features in the frame to focus on (more than other camera phones I've used at least). I know that you're not the only one bringing up this matter but I'm genuinely confused about how this is an issue for people. Have you changed camera settings or are you using a different ROM?

I found the settings of google camera that give the best HDR+, portraits on Nougat/Oreo Exynos devices. Compared to stock camera, GCam gives better saturation levels and detailed images. HDR+ parameters don’t hugely matter what you choose, and is all personal preference. A higher amount (very high in my case) will take a longer time to process.
New settings attached below. Clean Install is always recommended.
Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exynos.apk
3.2.9 Features
-Fixed black level back camera for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+
-Attempt to fix OIS
3.2.7 Features
- Fixed black level front
- Enabled OIS by default
- Added saturation options in Advanced HDR+ settings
3.2 Features
- Dark Theme for settings.
- Now you can select the path where to save the photos (doesn't work on sd card but probably can work with some xposed mod).
- Removed all the snapdragon toggles. The app will know when apply that settings.
- Removed custom denoise param and other settings
- Now the app will restart every time you go back from settings to the viewfinder. This means that you don't need anymore to restart the app to apply settings
- Now there are three gestures in the viewfinder:
1. double tap on the black area it will pop the exposure menu directly
2. long-press on gallery and it will open samsung gallery instead of google photos
3. long press on the switch camera and after the restart the viewfinder brightness will be set to maximum
- some minor changes
Gcam Tool v2..32
-Prevent flipping of front camera photos
-Choose which photos you want to move
-Select custom source and destination folders
-Batch move multiple files
-Option to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera
Download

Nice.. I couldn't get that movement correctly to slide it to get lens blur
But it seems to be a old version without the original portrait-mode. They are working on it and posted versions that are working for snapdragon but not for the exynos right now.

Not at all, Live Focus is infinitely better than lens blur. Lens Blur can't detect edges for ****. The problem with Live Focus is it requires adequate lighting for good processing. Lower light tends to do about as well as lens blur, for me at least.
Also Live Focus is fantastic as generating a gradual bokeh across the ground or a wall, it's way more natural. Lens Blur can't do anything like that.

I agree that but lens blur and live focus are totally different in work. Lens blur is a good replacement for devices like S8, S7 etc.
There's a new version that supports Portrait mode, and is working on Snapdragon variants... I've tried, but can't find any setting to work.

For me, the Google app is more natural than Samsung. The Samsung looks more artificial. Check by yourself. I installed the app as in OP. No problems at all.
A request to those who have updated to 12.1, check the optical stabilization. In the camera application, in photo mode, on the main module, with micro movements, the picture should be static. Or through instagram, telegrams, etc. Stabilization should also work there.
(I just can’t understand either a mechanical failure, or OIS disappeared after the update)
Same here. OIS only works on video mode, not in photo mode.
The preview is shakey but the picture seems focused nicely. So i dont see any issue here.

^ this summarize OPPO hahaha
the preview while your taking the photo is sh*t like it's not focusing(it keep saying go further or go near the target) , not colorful enough and somewhat pixelated but after taking it and OPPO applied AI correction and HDR it would turn out really beautiful
usually i just ignore warning like go near or further the target since it would still take the photo anyway

I dont get any warnings like you do. In addition preview is shakey when you shake your phone, but when you click shutter button the picture is cristal clear and sharp in my case
If you dial *#899# then go to manual test - camera, you can see how the stabilization should work in the photo.
It's not a bug, it's a feature
Hope it comes back in the next update.
Im very disappointed by the post processing the stock Gcam forcefully adds to every picture taken and im wondering if its possible to disable that in some developer options. Mainly the extreme contrast and sharpening. Google also disabled the function to select a different photo app as default which sucks. I stumbled over sometthing called lib-Patcher for Gcam on Reddit but have no idea how to use it.
I hope someone can help me since that would be the only big negative i noticed on my Pixel 7 so far.
You can do JPEG + RAW to be able to edit the photo yourself.
Open the camera, bring down the menu in the top left corner. Tap more settings, tap advanced. You will see the toggle there.
Note that these photos will still be pixel binned to 12MP.

Yes i know that, but that again requires lots of colorgrading since the "raw" pictures are a grey .dng with some kind of log-profile. If i take the picture and go to the gallery asap i can see the original nice picture for about a second and then it get the extreme sharpening and contrast added. That is the step i dont like. It makes Green grass and leaves look very grey and ugly because it only adds contrast and sharpening to already green mushy blobs. Similar stuff on the Shadows. If its already dark it doesnt need contrast and sharpening.
Hmm I have no idea then.

The pictures look very pleasing and without the post processing, very nice! But there is no manual mode or am i missing something? EV-compensation for control is fine but i would like to have a slider for whitebalance too, is this not a thing with this app?

The post post processing. I can see a very nice picture and then it gets changed AGAIN.
One way is to reduce sharpening and contrast in photos app or snapseed
