I know many of you are eager to enable as much apps as possible in to dark mode, but Google apps need a system wide "switch" in order to do so. I managed to get the system-wide dark mode running an almost all Google apps. First of all my play store version was not 16.9.10 so I uninstalled play store updates, then clicked on play store version to push it to update itself and then it was 16.9.10. If that doesn't do it for you install that version manually from APK mirror.
Second I enabled dark mode via ADB:
adb shell settings put secure ui_night_mode 2
Third: reboot.
After reboot I got dark play store, google photos, google pay, google drive, etc..
And also Instagram is dark too!
P.S. My Mate 20 Pro is on OS 9.1.0.320 and I have "darken interface colors" enabled since before, but that does not work on Google apps for me.
Thanks, my play store was already the right version.
Entered the ADB command and after a reboot i also got all the apps in dark mode!
Thanks Perfect Bro!!!!
Gmail no dark mode.

I wonder if this will work with a later version of the Play store.
Mate 20 pro also on 9.1.0.320
Yes tried it and worked. News Feed, Gmail and Youtube will not change though just like with the older version.

The google apps though - nope. All of those are darned bright.

Got an Instagram update and now is black.

This was originally working great, everything spontaneously reverted back to searing-my-eyes mode today. I tried the ADB command again, rebooted and dark mode came back for 1 minute then changed back to light mode again. Any ideas why it isn't sticking?

Don't know why it isn't sticking but try this app to see if it sticks in any way.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=systems.maju.darkmode
Since the latest os update darkmode works in almost all apps by flipping a switch
Installed this app and worked, without adb
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=systems.maju.darkmode
Play store, drive and photos switched to dark mode after enabling it in app.

Hi,
On my stock nexus s I have the youtube app installed by default but I can't find it anywhere to launch as just an app. On the market I see it as installed but I don't have the option to uninstall or even open the app.
What's the deal with this?
Thanks

- Go into Manage Apps --> All

Upon reboot you should now see the Youtube app present. You should now be able to update in the market as well.

I noticed the same issue, but I don't really use youtube so I wasn't even looking for a fix for it - however, since I happened upon this & it's a quick & easy fix I did it. So glad I did, because it also unlocks Google Earth & Google Books!
Thanks
It works. Thanks!!
Just wondering what is Google partner setup.
I installed this last night and the program itself works but every time I restart my phone it says "Updating" on the status bar and I have no service
When I uninstall Xposed it still says "Updating" in the status bar but it goes away after a minute and I get service again
I turned off System Updates and the problem still happens
Any solutions?
I would like to add my strange experience to this thread. I installed the Xposed framework and right after reboot I noticed that the google play store would no longer fully download anything. I would go to download or update an app but the progress stops randomly during the download. (The download would stop progressing and the little downloading icon in the notification bar would disappear) This strange issue is fixed by uninstalling the framework. I'm wondering if it has to do with the Note 4 touchwiz rom or the new google play apps that have been recently pushed (it seems they were just updated, I swear!)
I just wanted to leave this here. I will try running the framework again
Also I tried it with NO modules running.
Hey,
Installed this yesterday on my Note 4 to change the app DPI and Res so I can get Play Store tablet view etc. Went through the install, changed the settings, rebooted and the store is still the same so I don't think it's actually doing anything.
The apps I changed are shown in red, does this mean the settings are applied or that there is a problem?

Same experience here. It would download apps at the end of the day, but it takes 3-5 minutes per app. Also I start getting Google Services and google.location "unexpectedly stopped" errors after reboot. Disabling xposed framework makes these errors go away.
I have a Note 4 with a stock rom. Everything on x-posed is working perfectly for me... the framework and 20 modules all dead nuts as far as I can tell. That includes private mode.

You need multiDPI Patched playstore and Google play services to change the DPI, it will not work just by changing in App Settings. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1839871
Red means modified.

I had the same experience on my Note 4, an exynos version. Play store downloads would lock up and not finish downloading. Has anyone figured out what the problem might be and if it's processor - dependent?

Everyone having issues with laggy installs, the phone glitching up or lagging intermittently, SMS issues with the stock touchwiz messages app (you should check for that), etc., check out the following threads:

Hello. I've just been given a Mate S from work but it's the Chinese version so no Google apps. What are my options? As it's from Huawei through work I'll call rooting plan b. There's no way to flash an International factory image without rooting right?
If you go to the Huawei App Store you can install Google Play Store from there.
I did this when i converted my phone to chinese version. Only problem I had was contacts wouldnt sync, but if you download GoogleContactSynch.apk (you'll have to google search for that) then contacts syncs work fine.
Yeah i did that and then tried to install the Google Launcher and disable as much bloat as i could. Google Launcher wouldn't work for some reason. Will give it another go tomorrow.

You need to change the standard launcher under Settings - Apps - Standard apps
You can download Google Contact Sync and Google Calendar Sync from Huawei App Store. Search for Google and click the banner on top to see all the Google apps
Already tried when i was playing about with it a few days ago. Google Launcher wasn't listed even though it's installed.
I've just switched it on again now and it detects it. :good:
Last night I got an update to the Google app.
Right after it installed, Google would not open. Assistant will not open and the Google feed but pressing the home button will not open.
I've cleared cache in the Google app and rebooted, no joy.
I cleared data on the Google app, Google Play Services app and Google Play Store app and rebooted, no joy.
I uninstalled updates from the Google app and rebooted, No joy.
I updated Google app, rebooted, No joy.
I've sent into phone recovery and cleared cache partition a couple times along the way.
No joy.
I realize that I'm on my way to the dreaded factory reset, but what caused this?
I'm hoping for another update to the Google app for a fix, before I resort to the dreaded FR.
I was able to download and use the Google Go "light" app.
Any ideas?

You can try using ADB and a PC to uninst5 the Google apk.
Download package Info , by police developers, to get the name of the package name for Google. Prob something like com.google.search or something
Then run this command
ADB shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.google.app.name.here
After it's uninstalled, try reinstalling from the app store and see where that takes you
pm uninstall is not reversible unless you do a factory reset. pm disable is.

I don't understand why I see so many people who say this. It's NOT true. Do you see that part of the code that says --user 0? That means that the app is only removed from the current user.
To go a step further, this would only even apply to apps not available from the play store. You could delete the Google app off your phone completely and still get it back from the play store, whitch is exactly what should happen if they run the line I provided.
So, tl;Dr using "pm uninstall --user 0" doesn't remove an app from the phone entirely, only from the current user of the device.
I always forget to try the SAFE Mode. Google app worked on SAFE MODE, but kept working when I came out of SAFE MODE.
Anyways, the Google app works but voice is grayed out.
ETA, it turns out that Google Assistant could not be turned on, because through all of my uninstalling SMS reinstalling of the Google app, Bixby became the default assistant app.
So exactly how did going into and coming out of SAFE MODE fix this?
I think I have it figured out.
It's a Swift Installer conflict.
If the Google app updates, before there is a Swift Installer overlay update for the Google app, the Google app asks Assistant will crash.
Once they're is a overlay update for the Google app in Swift Installer, entering works without doing any 'gymnastics'.
The Swift Installer developer has been pretty good about keeping up with Google app updates. I imagine that's a tough job!
Today, I had a Google app update that I had been putting off for several days, waiting for Swift Installer update for the Google app overlay. There was no update available inside the Swift Installer app.
I updated the Google app in the Play Store.
The Google app crashed.
I opened the Swift Installer app and the overlay update for the Google app was then available.
Without the required reboot, after a Swift Installer change, the Google app and the Google Assistant worked.
Totally awesome!
Hi everybody,
following an update of my smartphone today via OTA, google play and youtube no longer works. Do you have any idea where it might come from?
FYI, a few weeks ago I deactivated a good number of applications via ADB but I had no problem so far.
Hi tomtom34,
Have you tried setting your timezone and date manually? Sometimes this can help. I just got the update but have not encountered any issues yet.

I've noticed this too! I had to put back com.vivo.pem for it to work, but it seems to work if you do manual sync of google account, clear google play cache, reboot 2 times then open google play and wait a few moments, then it springs back into life and with com.vivo.pem disabled (the way we like it).
Strange, I know, happened again today after another nighly update.

Google seems to have settled down but since updating to OceanOs notifications are much worse. I had working before (not perfectly) WhatsApp and FB Msg notifications but it seems even with pem removed, app permissions set and batt optimisation for apps set it is still deciding to close apps.
Perhaps it's iManager? (We cant disable that now) or whatever app tells us it's closed this.. or blocked pop-ups from that.. But I feel that is prob iManager.
Is there a specific reason vivo app should be removed?

Notifications working ok now, I had not realised the basic notification setting in the app(s) were set to none (No chat notification at all) So many settings.... anyway, wasn't an OceanOS issue.

Okay, thank you for the info. Google apps (and notifications) have been working for me since the last disabling of PEM, but i haven't dared to restart the phone since then...
Did you ever experienced google disconnection after firmware update: I mean after an official update (2 in this month) Google Play Services seem to "freeze" (no notifications from apps) and if I try to disconnect my Google account I cannot login again for a variable period of time (Google server unreachable).
