new Verizon Note 9 update - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Seeing a new update for the Verizon Note 9. It is saying update 13. Tried searching for a log and to see why it's about. All it's saying is for security. Any ideas?

Version number? Patch date? C'mon give us some info

Got it yesterday. It's a security update. Haven't seen anything new on my phone, and performance hasn't changed.

CSI3 for VZW and CSI5 for SPR but it's only october security patch ,nothing new

Note 8 unlocked and still no Oreo firmware update?

Baseband: N950USQS3BRA8
Note 8 is unlocked and currently with T-MOBILE, previously AT&T. I've search all day today and still can't find why I don't have the Oreo update yet. I have the Samsung keis software and it tells me I'm up to date. Did it ever come out for my baseband? I apologized in advance if this was already talked about, I only saw discussions about it being rooted. I want to keep it stock. Thanks

You can check for latest firmware related to your specific model on sammobile.com, then download through updato.com (or using the SamFirm tool) and flash it through Odin.

Since you're using it with T-Mobile and it was previously AT&T you're not going to get updates anymore unless you use an AT&T sim card.. The only way to get the updates at this point is to download the update firmware yourself and flash it through odin. The reason being is because T-Mobile doesn't carry AT&Ts firmware updates so you have to get it yourself.. It's easy as hell to find the firmware on places like Android File Host. Also do not download T-Mobile firmware it will not flash... Use AT&Ts firmware only.
I have a AT&T iPhone 7 from work, you guys think if I take that SIM and put it into the Note 8 the updates would come through? I was looking through the Sam mobile thing. You guys make it seem easy to manually update and I'm terrified being my first time doing it that way. But if you think the SIM card swap would work I'll give that a try first.

The sim card swap should work.. Can't hurt, try it and then check for updates.
It worked!!!
I swapped out the sim cards and it worked!
I ended up having to back up the device and restore, since the update wasn't showing up. I cleared the cache, checked and nothing. After restoring the phone the update became available. After the 8.0.0. update there was about 4 updates after (security patches). I'm now on 8.0.0 with Aug 2018 security patch. I put my tmobile sim card back in and restarted the phone. I even get the tmobile screen during boot up which I never gotten since I switched back in February. All in all it's working fine. I'll update if anything crops up. Thank you all for your help!
You can push software update with this procedure.
put this in your phone app: *#8736364#
Then go to Field Test mode.
Change "Device Initiated date" to one or a few minute ahead. wait until you see "SET" then press Home.
Wait until you see software update to kick it.
Try several times if it doesn't work at first.

Hi,
It looks like my phone's region was set to Singapore (XSP). Both the SIM cards I use are for Canada. Is there a way to change the phone's region?

as stated before, just flash another n960f firmware manually.
so try OXM
single sim and dual sim have the same firmware in case you were wondering.

Thank you and I know I'm asking very basic questions here, it's just so simple with a Pixel and I really don't want to brick the Note.
What you are saying is that it doesn't matter the region I pick, the Note 9 will continue to work as an "international" phone where my two Canadian providers and Google Pay will continue to work? I have XSP right now as region so if my phone is set to Singapore and I can use Google pay in Canada, one doesn't prevent the other from working.
I can also see that versions ending in "ARJ1" are available from samfirm and the "J" would mean it includes October patches if I understand everything right.

familiarize your self with what is a snapdragon and an exynos and the different phone models pertaining to each then bricking won't be an issue. anyways ODIN usualy wont let you flash something that is not compatible.
yes J is October and for google pay, usually its supported pretty much wide spread. samsung pay is an other story and is the more coveted of the 2 'pays'. but since you're after Google pay, it should still be working.
just remember that you cant downgrade bootloaders so be sure of your intentions because you cant revert back to a lesser revision.

Thank you, that's a very good point. I know Samsung can be slow to update to begin with so I was looking for ways to be at least not in a situation where my phone is the last to get the slow updates. To have an expensive flagship phone that still can't apply the September updates is disappointing. I have manually flashed my pixel often because the "check for update" would not give me an update so that's not usually a problem for me. I also liked how the pixel has very few customization options compared to the Note 9, that's fewer options to reconfigure after a fresh flash!

I applied the update from today (in the stock firmware thread) and I was a bit concerned as this was a first flash but everything went well. I have to say as nice as it is to like a phone "stock" like the pixel, having customization option is good. Also it will discourage me from doing full wipes all the time because it takes more time to reconfigure!
Thank you for your help today, I really had a hard time figuring out which country/region I should flash.

help!? still on att QS1CSAA

Hello all
I have a Verizon galaxy note 9 that I flashed using AT&T pie update. So I'm still stuck on QS1CSAA January 1 update. Haven't been on forums much. I would like to get back to standard Verizon OTA updates.
As of now, while still on QS1CSAA, my phone says it's up to date. Probably because of at&t flash. How do I go about getting back to "normal boring Verizon phone"?
Thank you
I think I might have found the answer. Thanks

new ota update released for att

I checked today and a new update was available. I had to scan for the update to get it. I don't know what it has updated but I am looking and will get back. If you see anything post here if you see a new feature.
Useless carrier stuff

N960U does not receive updates

So a couple of weeks ago I bought a second hand Galaxy Note 9. After a while I noticed that the last update that this phone received was in June 2019. Tried updating it from the phone - no luck. I downloaded and tried updating it with smart switch, but that did not work as well. I am using this phone in Europe, and I have no idea if its intended for the European market or not. Maybe that is the reason why it doesn't receive updates.
Baseband version: N960USQS1CSF1
Service provider: SAOMC_SM-N960U_OYN_XAA_PP_0003
Is there any chance that I can update this phone, or am I stuck with this old software version? Thank you.
