hey guys,
Just got myself a T-mobile Moto x, had a few questions about getting root on the phone. Been trying to go over some of the other posts but things are a little confusing right now. I'm no stranger to rooting and playing around with ADB on my previous phones so a little guidance in the right direction will be appreciated.
So right now my phone is on 4.2.2, Only thing I've done so far is updated the system apps on the google play market and the camera through there. Soon as I booted up my phone it's prompting me to update to 4.4. Been holding off on that for now until I can get root going. What exactly were the steps that others used to gain root access for the phone and keep root when updating to 4.4 as well. Just a little guidance will be greatly appreciated guys! :good:
Hi XDA members,
I need to root a HTC One (m7) on Verizon. I have been reading threads and watching videos but I still find myself confused as to how this works. I could really use some help and I would greatly appreciate any I can get.
I need to root the device so I can gain the full functionality of the program 'ispyoo'. Some of it's features work on a stock phone. But features like facebook, text, email monitoring only work if the device is rooted. Otherwise I have no need to root the device. Would like it to resemble 'stock' yet be rooted.
Looking for the most basic, simple, and stable way to go about rooting and roming this device.
Best I have gathered is I need to unlock boot loader, root the device, and install a custom rom.... What am I missing? Any suggestions or directions to a post/video I should look at will be much appreciated.

Verizon blocked unlocking the bootloader .. you have to use Firewater or SunShine to get s-off to unlock a Verizon One
The steps for unrooting a HTC One are:
Unlock the bootloader.
This is normally done through HTC Developer, but the person above me says that this is not possible for Verizon M7s; I can't comment as I am from the UK, but if you follow his instructions that should be this part done.
Flash a custom recovery.
ROMs are installed through a part of the OS called recovery; this is separate to the Android system. TWRP is my personal favourite, but there are others you can use.
Instructions can be found here.
Flash a custom ROM.
For most people, the next step is to install their favourite custom operating system. If you just want to keep stock like you said, you still need to flash a custom ROM, but in this case it would be the rooted stock ROM; the Verizon rooted stock can be found here, along with instructions.
Hope this helps!
Hi guys (and girls?)
Just picked up my Z3C yesterday. I am coming from a LG G2 and I had that thing rooted and running Slimkat within a few hours just because of the LG UI and stock kernel, not in such a rush with this phone as I quite like the UI and stock performance.
I've spent the day so far reading and reading and reading, I'm a bit rusty on my Sony rooting and flashing procedures (last Sony phone was the Xperia Arc)
For now all I am after is root access ( without unlocking the bootloader yet) so I can do a little debloating, install xposed etc while still enjoying the DRM related features (until I can assess if any of them matter to me enough to bother keeping )
Am I better off just rooting, backing up my DRM key (TA partition right?) and flashing a modified stock firmware from the start or can I achieve my goal just by rooting my current stock firmware?
I am currently reading through all the related threads and will probably work it out eventually but it would be pretty cool if someone could help me skip to the good stuff.
Anyway, enough story time, if you know of any good guides, tutorials etc that will help me achieve what I'm after just paste a link or whatever
And don't worry, I know how to use the thanks button
I am new user of Z3C as well, not expert by any means, to add my perspective to the same question asked by OP:
I just want to root Phone to add custom fonts and bold fonts, basically want to make it closer to iPhone 5s, which has bolder fonts. For me these fonts are too thin, if i make them large too large, thats the only thing i dont like about it.
So i want to root phone, just to change fonts and then unroot again, stock is sufficient for me and i feel i can have better battery with stock and stuff.
So can somone kindly guide me how to safely root, change fonts, unroot. I have no need of xpose and stuff at all.
Thanks in advance.
Hey get your own question thread lol nah I'm kidding, more the merrier!
I'm still reading everything and have found a few good tutorials. I'll post here anything I find that answers any of mine or your questions. But would still like to invite the users who really know this phone to share Thier opinions.

This is what you need.
Probably you can't "root directly" because your phone is updated with the last firmware version.
So, you need to downgrade to a version which has the exploit, root, backup DRM keys (for safety only) and update again with a pre-rooted rom.

Hey mate, hopefully you have been doing your own research on the topic, but here is what I have learnt.
there is no simple root/unroot that doesn't require flashing firmwares etc.
but, if you do follow the instructions in the thread our helpful friend linked to you can create your own .ftf file with root included. The instructions also include a recovery in the ftf file but you opt to leave it out. (I actually made two custom ftf files, both with root but one without custom recovery).
I flashed the one without the custom recovery because for the time being I'm happy to keep the phone as stock as possible and simply don't need a custom recovery (I've got 2 phones and 2 tablets for tinkering with so I'm trying to avoid it with this phone which I use for work)
anyway, I have kind of answered my own question ultimately and will mark the thread as such.
but feel free to PM me if you need a hand with anything
Hi! I'm glad I found this forum because I've been wanting to remove that annoying ATT bloatware that came with my phone for ages. I've already go through the process of updating my rooted phone to LP 5.0.1 using flashfire as stated in http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-active/general/how-to-update-to-i537oc6-5-0-1-t3089355 but now that I've rooted my phone what can I do to it? I'm really just looking for some suggestions since I've gone through the trouble of doing this. I was looking for ROMs, and correct me if I'm wrong, but they all seem to not want to play nice with the I537 version of the phone, so I'm also looking for something to add a bit more flair for my newly rooted phone. Thanks again for any feedback, it's really appreciated!
Hey guys!
Will there ever be a root for the build G925VVRS4DQE1...? This build has been the bane of my existence!
I need to access my internal memory because I lost some videos and root access seems to be the only way it's going to happen.
Apps like diskdigger do me no good without having root access.

Same thing happened to me. Woke up to my phone factory resetting itself. I looked into and im definitely not the only person this happened to. If you or anyone else can help or direct me in the right direction that would be amazing.
