???????Update to Android 10?????? - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

Just to start the thread on whether this amazing device will be getting it's update to Android 10. Razer have upgraded their first phone to Android 9 so hopefully we get the update to 10 on this device too. Who thinks that we should get the update??? Thoughts and opinions please

I really hope we get 10 but I'm not going to get my hopes up. I went all in with these phones purchased the RP1 not a year later got the Razer phone 2. First time I've ever purchased two phones so close together. I was hooked I just love the look of these phones everything about them is exactly what I want in a phone. At first the only complaint I had was lack of a truly black theme but I got over that. Then it took over a year for the RP1 to get 9.0. With barley any communication from Razer. Theme store is basically Dead nothing new no updates to it. I just feel kind of left out in the weather sure they down sized there mobile division but they should still be cranking out development for these two devices. That's just how I feel I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for it. I'd like to see screen recording added into the game booster app that's just one thing I can think of that other nongaming phones have that this one doesn't. There's no reason this phone or the RP1 shouldn't have at. Thanks

The screen cannot be discarded. But I have music needs, so I am going to throw rp2 home.

I have had both device's, the RP1 and the RP2. To my mind, these have been the best two devices I've ever owned. I've had HTCs and ZTEs in the past, and at least these have had updates. The first RP1 has gone up two full software iterations so I'm hoping that the RP2 will aswell. HTC sorta dropped the ball on its devices, and ZTE promised updates but made poor attempts at implementing them...at least RAZER have done theirs and finished them with promise

Tilt Replacement

I have had my Tilt for a little over a year now and I realy like it alot, but being a forward thinking person I understand that when my contract is up in 8 months or so I am going to want a new phone. I have been scouring fourums and manufacturer websites and have been unable to find anything that fills the Tilts shoes. One of my main concerns is that other phones all seem to be getting rid of the buttons on the front which I want to keep. does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement phone, already out or on the way?
wait and see what is coming out in 8 months.
There's not many phones worth the price or trouble to replace the Kaiser. I'd just wait and see what going to be new in the market. I heard HTC maybe making a phone with the Nvidia graphics chip, so that maybe worth the wait.
Otherwise, most new HTC phones are using a 128 Mhz faster CPU, with slightly more ram, storage, accelerometer, and higher resolution screen. Higher Megapixel camera too, if that matters to you. Some new phones don't even have a keyboard, so you'll have to use the touch screen.
If I were to buy a new Smart Phone, it'll probably be based on the Android OS. If WM6.5 doesn't get a massive overhaul, then Android is the way to go.
There are many android phones coming out that I would like to have.
Sony Ericsson Xperia 2!!! Cool Phone!
Nope here it is, the uber mega phone to crush all other phones.

Well, I can tell you my 2 years is up, and I am probably going to get the Touch Pro 2 (aka Tilt 2) from AT&T when it comes out.
when is that supposed to come out??

Originally it was scheduled for Oct. 6th, but ROM bugs apparantly pushed that back to Oct. 18th. However, I'd bet you could get it a few days earlier if you asked the AT&T reps. I got my Tilt 3 days early, so I don't think getting the Pro2 would be terribly difficult to get ahead of schedule.
Personally I'm thinking of switching to a BlackBerry if another good HTC doesn't come out. I got the Tilt as a replacement to the 8125 and I couldn't be happier. I've had it for a long time now and it's extremely durable. I've dropped it numerous times and it's still in good condition. The 8125 broke after the 5th drop so I was vary happy about the replacement.
i just went to my ATT store and asked if they heard about a tilt 2 or touch pro 2 coming out in october. and the reps there said they havent heard of anything like that coming out in october... is there some news link that says something about this phone??

The Boy Genius Report posted this story, and if you google "Tilt 2", you'll find quite a few pictures and articles concerning it. When I asked my AT&T reps, they said they didn't know anything officially, but one who seemed to be senior over all the rest said that he wouldn't be surprised considering all the things online about it.

Support for Over the air upgrandes???

Hi all, as far as you know will this unit support the "over the air" software upgrade that other and less expensive devices already are said to support?
Thanks
Ps. I have an hd2 running windows mobile and I'm getting tired to soft reset the unit almost once a day. I saw android is really stable compared to win mobile 6.5 so I'd like to switch. I must confess, the only thing that prevents me from doing so is the lack of an offline gps navigator like tomtom, the best one.
No one really knows if there will be OTA updates.
Why dont you try flashing android on your HD2? Look in the HD2 section here on XDA.
Thanks, but I can't afford to brick my pda...
Yes there is an OTA menu
Thanks it would be a pity not having this possibility in such a device! But I'm doing a consideration: is it worth it to spend all this money when technology and most of all Android's development is bringing innovation at such a pace? I mean, one can buy a cheaper X3, Huawei. It should work without flaws and would mount the same os...what do you think?
Buying cutting edge stuff is always going to cost lots.
The differences between handsets aren't really that great. If you're worried about money, wait until this handset and others are released and buy one of the current handsets which will probably be reduced.

That was close to my philosophy, I mean when I bought my first pda in 1999 I wanted it top notch in order to last and I kept it until 2004 when I bought another pda top of the line. It lasted until last September when came the HD2. It is a beautiful machine but all of a sudden it seems to be old compared to all those android that are coming out with a continuous flow and I cannot stand anymore all those necessary soft resets and strange behaviours....
So probably it's time to spend the less possible and chose pda like to new X3 huawei, with all inside, ota and gingerbread. Mind changes and this is the case...
Android's too fast moving to really have anything be future proof. Check out the G1/Dream, released October 2008, Nexus S, December 2010.
Big difference. Admittedly the difference between the Nexus One and Nexus S isn't that great but it seems that they're 2nd Gen devices while this Dual Core stuff might be what you could call the third Gen.
Wether they are or not it'll be unlikely that anything you purchase today running Android will look anything but prehistoric in five years time.
As for your HD2 being a PDA, what do you need? Any phone will do what a PDA did ten years ago.
Well I call pda all those devices cause I saw them being introduced in the market more than ten years ago. I use the hd2 for push email, contact sync ota, calendar ota, sat navigation, documents in excel and word, sms sending via web with jacksms, web surfing and LOTS of other thing, among them, safe storage of sensitive data.
I still call them pda cause that's what they have been created for. Now they can communicate and even call, or allow you a call...but the core is that.
Nice chat.
Have a good evening, must go to bed now.
Yes. i used OTA for upgrading, yesterday.
There's also an LG updater Application which will check and install updates. So I guess both bases are covered.

Providing it works.
FOTA updates are not working for the T-Mobile branded unit. Comes back with validation error.

From 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 I guess??

They grow old so fast...

Am i the only man on earth that believes phones reach their end of life to soon? I currently own a HTC Droid Incredible(the original launched in 2010), and i'm just a little pissed off that my phone probably isn't going to be receiving Sense2.0/3.0 or gingerbread, OFFICIALLY. Gingerbread is understandable, but come on, sense 2.0 released 4 months after the Inc. launched, and still no update. These sorta things happen to every phone, no matter what OS they run, or who manufactures them. I think it's BS that i should have to buy a new, 600$ phone every year in order to revive the newest version of the operating system it runs. Another great example, Palm. I also use to own one of their beautiful Web-OS devices(and i loved it BTW), But the updates i was promised on the development website were cancelled and never released, or at least, i switched to Android before they were after waiting 6 months.
My point is, companies almost seem to forget about their devices, even only after a couple of months of release. The device could be completely capable of running the software bug-free, but they decide to throw it to the side, and focus on the future, when most of us still hold the past in our hands.
I agree too.. Well companies have always been like that.. and their only goal is to attract consumers and make money..
They need a better way to do it. I don't know many normal users who've updated firmware / OS.
Came across an iPhone user before christmas who was really frustrated that no apps or games worked anymore. I think the OS was 2 1/2 years out of date. They were going to buy a new phone before I upgraded the OS for them and everything suddenly worked!

Why else do people flock to XDA?
The developers here are the stuff of our technological dreams. Moore's law dictates a cycle of 24 months for obsolescence, and with our advances in UX and algorithm, this fleeting time is cut even shorter by the abhorred shears of Atropos. XDA lends a lifeline to our devices, and surely I say to you, without CyanogenMod in my phone I'd feel very blue. So if you would ask me if Androids dream of Electric Sheep, I'd say that in this site their only nightmare is apathy.
I totally agree
Indeed. It's quite depressing to think that the HTC Sensation is probably going to be knocked off it's flagship podium before I actually manage to procure a device that doesn't have copious amounts of dust under the screen or other such elementary problems.
Hence I bought the phone I liked, at the price I can afford, with the functions I want.
Next upgrade is probably never, unless I get some $ windfall.
I wanted to buy a Desire S since it has everything I needed until I found out there's no Sense 3.0, WTF it got released almost the same time Sensation did
I won't buy an expensive phone because it'll go down without an effort
TBH the best companies that offers updates are Samsung and Sony Ericsson, HTC is between medicore and horrible and Motorola is below the center of the earth.

I do.agree with you, but like the first reply, not everyone updates their devices. We are the part.of the community that loves being in sync, with the latest and fastest, but the pace of Moore's law is so fast It's almost impossible. Btw, I have the Kingdom gingersense 3.0 ROM.running on my Inc, It's awesome,.sense 3.0 is.epic
I'm thinking of apple users when i read this. Get an iphone, looks and feels great and next thing you know it there's a newer version of it and your old one won't even receive the software update.
You're right when you say that companies worry too much of the future and forget to think of their current devices.

Haha, exactly my point. Though Motorola is really good with updating their droids, but thats because Verizon pays them to do it. The newest Droid x 2.3.3 update is super buggy, my friend has it and keeps complaint about the camera crashing, and random restart, and freezing

Uh, you have that confused. Who took 7 months to update their phone from 1.6 to 2.1? Sony Ericsson. I'm sure we all know about the U.S. Galaxy S update fiasco. Motorola has got to be the best (in the U.S. with their high end phones) IMO. Droid X was released with 2.1, 2 months later it received 2.2. Last month it recieved 2.3. Same with the OG Droid. Launched with 2.0, recieved 2.1 I believe 3-4 months afterward and 2.2 last summer (early August). For HTC, the Mytouch 3G for example. Launched July, 29th 2009, with 1.5, got a 1.6 update several months later, then recieved 2.1 and in November recieved 2.2. Of course it ran horribly with 2.2 but HTC still updated it. Now none of the companies are perfect at updating, but HTC and Motorola have it best (IMO).

It all depends where you live. In USA, Motorola is pretty good at updating their devices. In other parts of the world, they're horrible. Samsung is exactly the opposite - international SGS got 2.2 and was the first non-Nexus device with 2.3. In USA, some of their phones got 2.2 recently. So it's hard to say.
Haha, totally agree man, the fascinated got 2.2 like a months ago, the galaxy tab is just starting to get upgrades, reason I avoided Samsung, even if the phones are beautiful, they lack with updates. I thought HTC with their track record would much a fast sense 2.0 update for my phone, but never did even after confirmation

Phone exploded (solved.)

Issue solved by Nokia/Hmd together with Mediamarkt Sweden with above and beyond kind of service,
They handled the issue quick and effective without any pressure from social media or newspapers. Kept me up to date with any type of progress in the matter.
And even let me replace the phone with another brands phone due to certain reasons, they also provided for extra accessories to the replacement phone even though it was another brand as well as putting out extra credit at the store of my choice for future purchases.
So my hat comes of for them for the 11 star of 5 stars maximum service
got real issue on my phone night between 23/24 july wich resulted in me and my girl waking up and in less then 1 min the appartement was smokefilled and the phone was like a blowtorchand we managed to toss it from a 3 floor window onto the street wbelow.

atm the phone is on the way to nokia/hmd main service in EU since they where extremly eager to check it out on what may have gone wrong and they helpedme to get a basic timeline by lots of questions so to see if there was any strange behaviour with the phone prior to the event
and as i understood this was basicaly a first for themwith this kind of event specially since it wasnt plugged in atm of the explosion . so i am waiting on reply from them for reciving and first checkup on the device.

Oh yeah, didn't hear such a thing before. Please keep us updated. I'd like to know more about how they handle the issue and what information they provide about the root cause. Also, I'm glad they intervened and took notice of it without needing a special pressure from social media (which is the case for most brands).
Sent from my Nokia 8.1
Sorry to hear that.
I've never heard of HMD Nokia Android Phone explosion incident before - at least in China, only battery bulging incident on overused Nokia 6.1.
Please keep this topic updated, we want to know their attitude upon this issue.
still no news from nokia/hmd other then they are putting everything under a microscope to try and find anything that might have gone wrong.
So update on this issue.
So far they couldn’t find anything wrong in design of the phone and or battery so it looks like it was just one of them crazy bad luck happening.
They still haven’t completely checked everything as I understood but they felt satisfied to close the matter on mud end and do more testing without me having to wait for all answers.
And the solution on the matter for me as I got. New phone and accessories like SD cards, cases, Custom screen covers, wireless headphones as well as a bunch of extra store credit for future purchases.
However due to demands from girlfriend that the same model of phone was not allowed inside ever again if I wanted to sleep in the same bed/apartment ever again I had to pick another model.
However since they didn’t have any similar phone model.
They came up with the suggestion of me picking from any brand of phone even from their competitors. So now I have bramd of phone and really happy with the solution in the end..
So to all that might be worried about this repeating itself don’t be.
Also even hat it took some time I am extremely happy with the solution in this matter as well as they will update me with any future findings in this matter.
Best service i ever experienced in a cellphone warranty issue.
Nokia/hmd gets 11 out of 10 stars for their handeling of the service around this issue.
what phone do you have now?
good to see them being this nice. But i guess they have to because, well, your phone exploded
I took a samsung A40 instead due to the fact that it was good enough for my current needs but I do miss my Nokia. But as My girlfriend Put in her veto against the Nokia 7plus model I didn’t have much choice.
Nokia’s work in the matter is the best I ever encountered when it comes to Customer service and I feel they took it extremely serious to find a solution on the matter and as I understood it was just a one time happening.
But I am happy with the new phone since it is quick software and takes decent photos, but I am going to miss the Nokia.

Is this phone even selling?

Hi!
So, I've been a long time moto user, used the old G4 plus for more than 4 years (great phone!!!) and it served me well till I dropped it in the toilet (don't ask:laugh, which is how I'm here.
Now this phone is a few months old, yet this forum is almost empty! Very unlike the G4 plus xda forums when it first released, which a few months in was filled with discussions, tips, guides and roms.
I wonder if motorola/Lenovo's abysmal track record since the iconic G3, and then the G4 has a part in this? I mean the one fusion plus is a great phone on paper, and I've loved it so far, but the lack of discussions and developer participation here on XDA can only mean it's not selling enough to pull in the elite crowd.
Is a shame too, I'm not competent enough to find ways to root my phone by myself, nor make/port roms for it. Coming to XDA has always helped me do that because of its great user base. The fact that this forum isn't where it should be for a phone this great is IMO largely Lenovo's fault in taking its user's for granted since the G4, making people weary of buying it's products even when they did finally put out a decent product in the one fusion plus.
Pity.
No
I hate to be this guy, but theres a good reason its not selling, and if its not the reason, at very least its a blessing. Ive had this phone for over a year now and its been the WORST phone I have ever had in my LIFE. The phone runs fine for a few weeks, then suddenly it becomes super slow. Facebook Messenger and Reddit will start randomly having problems loading messages and posts. Several websites including google discover app will start failing to show images. They just wont appear. Videos on many websites and youtube app will start to stutter or "Lag". I have NO idea what could have been causing this. I originally thought maybe it was a virus so I downloaded a couple virus scanners and checked and boom: Nothing. So, I factory reset and it worked for about a week and the same abnormal behavior started again. I then asked my sister, who has the same phone (who talked me into getting this phone) and shes having literally the same problems to a T. We dont know if its because of some update completely broke the phones ROM/OS or what, but the phone is an unstable broken mess right now. Nothing fixes it.
Also, that "Amazing" "Innovative" popup camera on both our phones occasionally gets stuck. You will open it to take a selfie and it simply wont go back down. The motor stops responding. Sometimes you literally have to FORCE it to go down which likely isnt good for the gears/motor. Its become so bad ive became afraid to take selfies.
I have used many Motorola/Lenovo phones and this phone is quite possibly one of the worst phones they've ever made. Let this be a warning to you if you consider buying this garbage. I didn't intend for this comment to end up basically being a review, but here we are. I was angry so I decided to write this comment and it became a review. I have been struggling lately which is why I haven't simply bought a different phone. Likely once I do get paid soon, I will be buying a different phone and I likely wont be buying a motorola again based on their quality. I literally upgraded from a Moto Z2 Force to the Moto One Fusion Plus and the moto z2 force had a ton of problems and the screen was literally peeling (look it up, its a known defect).
TLDR: Garbage phone. Constant freezes and crashes. Avoid.
